Multi Track Project (keeps looooooooaaaaddding)

Hi there,
Ok heres my problem. I have a full lenth feature film (1hr 23 min) in Final Cut Pro 5. the picture is fine but now i need to move to audio and get that down and set.
I highlight everything in the timeline. GO up to file>send to > soundtrack multi project. Everything goes and exports and renders but when its done it just loads and loads and loads. I finally got it into soundtrack pro by exporting as XML but i would like to get the other way to work.
Thanks
Kyle

If FCP is set to allocate all available ram, there may not be much left over for STP to crank up.

  • Error sending multi-track project back to Final Cut Pro, can't open XML

I am an experienced Final Cut Pro user but just tried using Soundtrack Pro for the first time on a real project. I sent the audio from my Final Cut sequence to a Soundtrack Pro multi-track project, added a few effects and created some fade-ins and fade-outs, and then tried to Export back to Final Cut.
I selected "File > Export", named my file and selected "After Export > Send files to Final Cut Pro sequence."
Now in Final Cut an error appears that says "The document “Name.xml” could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Pro XML File” format."
Am I crazy or is something wrong happening here? I can get the exported audio files to appear in my sequence if I select "File > Import > XML" in Final Cut, but after this whole process Final Cut seems to be functioning unreliably (after closing Final Cut and re-opening, I even once got a similar error that said "Final Cut cannot open files in the Final Cut Pro Project File format", which is obviously crazy).
Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    hi,
i have the same situation. expirienced in fcp, new in soundtrack pro.

  • Multi track project  shows audio track 1 & not 2  need help!!!!

hello everyone... Have a sequence in fcp 1 video track 2 audio tracks i right mouse click the sequence go to send to click on multi track project it sends to soundtrack pro but only track 1

This would frustrate me in the beginning and sometimes it will come back to me. I'll blame that on the Pro tools I have installed. Make sure that device is enabled in controll panel, hardware. Disable the ones you don't use. I don't think AA will recognize usb or firewire hardware if that is what you have. Needs to be a card. I use the M-Audio Delta L1010. 8 inputs. I use 8 direct outs from my mixing board into the 8 inputs on the card. Sounds very good for the price.
    Good luck.

  • Trouble exporting multi-track project

A client gave me a drive with his show on it. I 'm supposed to cut the sound on Sound Track pro, it's an experiement for me.
I've exported multi-track before, and have exported from this project, one of the daily roll assemblies. But something in the final version is totally screwing me.
It exports and then I get the message that the exported session file can't be opened.

Well I think I've found the problem a 4 track wave file. Seems Soundtrack Pro really is not ready.

  • Cutting the Last Part of a Multi-Track Project & Pasting It Into a New One

I've recorded 55 mins. of audio on a two separate tracks (i.e., one is narration, one is some intermittent dialogue), only I've decided to cut the first "chapter" to only 30 mins. and transfer the other already-recorded stuff to the second chapter -- which will be a new project I'll start.
How do I cut-and-paste the material? Can you open a new project and keep it open at the same time you are going back to the old one? I.e., can you have two screens of it up at the same time, or do you have to copy one, close out the project, open the second project, paste it, then close that one and go back to the first one and repeat?
I know this may seem hopelessly beginner a question, but...please help?

Although the point of this article is different, the explanation in it will show you how to copy between projects:

  • Help with multi track project

    Hi all,
So I recorded my church's worship and sermon on GB through the local sound system. We upload the sermons onto the church's website, and use the worship recordings for practice. I muted all but the one version of the sermon I wanted and saved, clicked Send to itunes, and waited. The itunes version ended up having all six tracks (3 sermons and 3 worship sessions) overlayed, making things incomprehensible. I went back to GB and reopened the project to find that only the first track (worship session 1) had any "fuzzy lines" (i.e sound waves) on it, and it was all of the tracks overlayed again. The other 5 tracks were just flat lines that had no sound. I am at a loss on what to do. Any suggestions?

Before muting Tracks and exporting to iTunes did you have the waveform on all Tracks and did each Track contain a discrete sermon?
(Usually I solo the one Track instead of muting the others, but that really shouldn't make a difference.)
After saving I suppose you didn't somehow un-mute the Tracks? When you went back to the Project were the Tracks still muted?
And you say you went back to GB and "reopened the Project." Why did you close it at all? (maybe a silly question but I'm spit-balling here.)

  • Multi-track project syncing with video

    Dear All,
After I sent a project from FCP to Soundtrack Pro, the sound tracks have no linking with the video. That is, if I move a clip accidently, the clip will become out-of-sync with the picture. Is there anyway I can lock the audio files with the video making sure no out-of-sync?
    Thanks.
    King

Every Clip can Be locked in sdtr pro.
Highlight the specific Clip(s) in your Timeline in sdtr pro, rightclick and Select Saving Clip
After that all selected Clips are saved, you can not Move them until you unlock them.

  • Audio Drop out when editing in Waveform / No Multi track File

Ok so i have a bigger problem. Therefore thats why i am reposting.
I have a 40 minutes video and the last scene needs alot of audio editing. I am trying to export the 8 minute scene to a Multi Track project for soundtrack pro. When i click send to multi track project, i click "Include background video" however when i click save, it exports then gives me the error "Error Sending Selection to Soundtrack Pro" however when I uncheck the "include background video" i am able to open up soundtrack pro and see all the audio tracks but the video is absent.
Its just the multi track that i am unable to do. I am able to export as a Audio File Project and still the video. However when i try to do nosie reduction the audio plays for a few seconds then stops.

    Hi Luis,
    Thank you for that.
Seems like you have a point about the "hardware" issue.  I'm unsure (new to it all) at what data rate my (er...wonderful) fusion drive provides FCPX for smooth playback - or where I can find that info on the iMac.  Playing back movies in the 422 HQ codec seems to have no issues (when I converted the movie from 4444 HQ).
But playing the full 4444 HQ, the picture is smooth, but the audio has these drop-outs - even with "best performance" option ticked. Interesting that the audio suffers, not the picture in FCPX - so not sure what's going on there. I also read - perhaps - that to play a smooth ProRes 4444 HQ movie in FCPX the data rate should be min of 500 Mbs (based upon About Apple ProRes) for HD movies and up (i.e. 2k).  ProRes 422 HQ needs a data rate of 220 Mbs - so that is my upper-limit to smooth video&audio playback with the current system I have, I guess.
Does anyone recommend a fast USB3 or Thunderbolt drive (500Mbs+) where I am able to run 4444HQ movies with no issues to picture or sound (away from the fusion drive)?

  • Going from "Audio File" to "Multi-track" Editing in Soundtrack

    Howdy!
In Final Cut I've exported multiple clips via right click and "Send to STP as Audio File Project."
Now, I've realized I am doing it all horribly wrong, and I would like to export my entire sequence again as a multi-track project!
Great, but now I have to ask myself, "What about the clips I've already EQed and used the noise cancellation tool on? Do I leave them as they are and just expect for them to go back to their original state? Or should I delete the files that STP made?" When I right click a clip this is the file type that STP made, that FCP links to, "292_1336_03.MOV (sent).stap"
Can I delete that file and about 7 others to make my audio return to it's normal state? Or is there a couple other steps I should do before ruining my life?
    Thanks a bunch,
    JS

I'd start with a Send to STP Multiclip project. You'll probably have to isolate the clips you already modified individually, only so you don't lay another track-based effect on top of an existing clip-based effect. Then just listen and see what you've got. If it's not going to work for you, well, chalk that up to a "learning moment," or "experiment." I have plenty of those sitting around here. Once you get a handle on the STP workflow it's much faster overall for dealing with an entire project (not so good for single clips).

  • Multi-Track Clip replace

    Hello all,
Is there a way to replace clips in the multi-track and keep all automation? I have some mixes that are using watermarked mp3 files for music and once the client has given the green light I purchase the full quality WAV files. I have not found a simple way to do this unless I am missing something obvious.
Can anyone describe their workflow to acomplish this in a simple manner?
    Thanks
    Ray T

Ryclark is correct you can do lots of things (that you probably shouldn't) by editing an sesx file BUT like drugs and alcohol just because you can doesn't mean you should!
Having said that editing an sesx file can be like doing brain surgery and should be approached with caution unless you either know what you are doing or are prepared for the consequences.
Either way you should always work on a backup (or a backup of a backup) and under no circumstances bother the Adobe devs if you go messing with your sesx files as they have much better things to do than be wasting time on such things.
I'm not going to go into too much detail but in the OP's situation here is what you want to do.....
Using a text editor find the "<files>" section (down near the bottom of the file)
    <files>
    <file absolutePath="H:\Suite Spot Studios\Dennis\All Shook Up\All Shook Up_Recorded\Kick Trig_003.mp3" id="0" mediaHandler="AmioWav" relativePath="All Shook Up_Recorded/Kick Trig_003.wav"/>
    <file absolutePath="H:\Suite Spot Studios\Dennis\All Shook Up\All Shook Up_Recorded\Snare Top_002.wav" id="1" mediaHandler="AmioWav" relativePath="All Shook Up_Recorded/Snare Top_002.wav"/>
    <file absolutePath="H:\Suite Spot Studios\Dennis\All Shook Up\All Shook Up_Recorded\Snare Bum_002.wav" id="2" mediaHandler="AmioWav" relativePath="All Shook Up_Recorded/Snare Bum_002.wav"/>
    <file absolutePath="H:\Suite Spot Studios\Dennis\All Shook Up\All Shook Up_Recorded\Hats_002.wav" id="3" mediaHandler="AmioWav" relativePath="All Shook Up_Recorded/Hats_002.wav"/>
    </files>
If you replace "Kick Trig_003.mp3" with say "Kick Drum.wav" then save the file then Audition will load the mp3 in its place next time you open the sesx file (assuming the new file is in the same location).
BUT you will get what you asked and not necessarily what you want - as Durin points out there may be differences in the 2 files etc.
I could probably write a utility to perform this function but I'm a little under the pump right now.
BTW An even easier way would be to remove the current media from its present location and replace with new media with the same name

  • Multi-cam project crashing in FCP

    Hi,
I'm cutting a multi-cam project and the system I'm cutting on keeps crashing - and it appears to be crashing just after the auto save.
The project is a five camera shoot, all on XDCam EX3 35mbs 1080 / 25p (ingested into FCP, native clips are then combined into a multiclip & put into an HD Pro Res timeline - the Apple Pre-set: Apple ProRes 422(HQ) 1920x1080 50i version).
The system I'm working on is an 8 Core (2x2.8ghz quad core intel) with 16gb RAMM, OSX 10.5.8 (this isn't my own system)
The actual FCP project is still pretty small (currently only 24mb), although this will be increasing (I'm cutting 10x1 hour shows).
The system appears to hang up just after doing an autosave (I say this because the time stamps on the most recent autosave are usually within a minute or two of the crash). I get the spinning ball of death, and then the system crashes (although not always, it tends to crash about 40% of the time when the spinning ball of death appears).
I'm running the system fairly minimally: I've reduced the number of audio tracks playing in real time to 2, and the audio playback quality to Low (it's stand up comedy). I am running with the waveform showing on one audio track (I've crushed the other tracks so it's not showing - although I don't know if this means the audio waveform isn't being calculated for those tracks). I've only got one track of audio actually playing.
I've reduced the playback quality & frame rate to dynamic, but I am running 5 streams of EX3 35mbs vision through the multicam playback window, in a pro res sequence (1920x180).
I've already deleted the FCP preferences & zapped the P-RAMM a couple of times.
Any ideas on how I can reduce the crashes?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Shane & Tony,
I'll try that, fortunately we've only shot & ingested the first few shows, so we can still fit the transcoding process into our workflow. (I had heard this suggested prior to starting the edit, but wanted to avoid it if possible because of the extra work involved).
BTW, my method for transcoding the media to Pro Res for the two sequences that I've already edited, would be to identify the transcoded EX3 QT files that have been ingested (at desktop level), take these QT files into compressor, apply & run the standard apple Pro Res template, and then re-link the clips in FCP to the new transcoded media files (which would have identical names, but be the transcoded Pro Res Version). Then re-link the sequence.
Obviously, for the shows that I haven't cut yet, I'd just ingest, & then transcode the media, & re-import the transcoded Pro Res media ready for editing.
Do you have a better way of transcoding the EX3 files to re-link to the edited sequence?
    Thanks!
    Andrew

  • Multi-track view option to save selection of mulitple tracks

Hi,  I'm not sure if there is another way of doing what I am doing but if there is please tell me!  ... If theres not then this should be a valid enhancement request for a future release ... This is what I am currently doing to create samples:  Working in Multi-track view I am making a selction accross tasks and then when I am happy I write down the begin and end of my selection. For a 5 minute piece thats alot of writing down! ..(I have 50 or so numbers) .. I then switch to edit mode for each of the tracks that I want. I then punch in the numbers to make my selection and use the save slection option to save the sample to my folder typing the numbers into my filenames so I can keep track!  ... In order to get the samples I want from a typical 5 minute piece it can take me days and is very soul destroying! ... So .. to my enhancement request .. once the selection is made in multitrack view it shoud be possible to save all selections as seperate samples using a file naming convention made up of the track name and the begin and end numbers... QED ...This would be brilliant! .....menawhile, back to the slog until someone puts me out of my misery!  ...alan

    Alan [good name],
You could try selecting your range (maybe place markers at each end),
then File | Export | Audio Mix Down.
Choose TRACK as your source and SELECTION as your range.
Each track (and the master) will be mixed down and saved as separate files.
Rather than renaming all the files, consider putting them
into a new folder - which you can name appropriately.
Of course, using this method all effects, levels, etc. are
    applied before saving.
I agree that a more direct approach is desirable,
but if you can live with mixed down files, this will help.

  • My project keeps crashing! PLEASE HELP

    I'm running Lion, 4GB memory, logic 9.1.7.
My project KEEPS crashing, I open it, it's good performance wise for about 60 seconds, then its starts to lag, then it gets unstable and it crashes either when I open a plugin window, go to save etc. When it crashes upon saving, the save dialog box that usualyl says "Saving..." pops up completely blank and then i get the spinning ball of death.
Console reads a "malloc" error; crash reports are inconsistent, different threads with different elements read as having crashed, once it was com.apple.appkit-heartbeat, the other time it was something else.
I have a BUNCH of plugins in this project, effect plugins and instrument plugins, all Native Instruments. I've used native instruments plugins just as excessively on 11 other tracks, and none of them have responded this way. It was originally a garageband project, and garageband would perform and crash the same way.
I ABSOLUTELY NEED to finish this project within a week and I'm PANICKING.
    WHAT DO I DO!!

    Hi
Sounds like something in that particular GB/Logic project is tripping things up:
    Memory Issue?
    Specific plugin or patch (Massive?)
You could try doing a "Selective Track Import" to rebuild the project into a new empty Project. Possibly do this one track at a time, until you find the offending one.

  • How to fade in and out in multi-track editor

    I'm using Soundtrack Pro 1.1
Is there any way to fade a clip in or out in the multi-track editor? The only way I've been able to do it so far is to create an audio file project and do it there. Surely there must be a way to do it more directly?

Move your cursor onto the audio track, to the upper-left (or upper-right) corner until the cursor icon changes to a small envelop. From there, click & drag out to create a fade. From there, you can double-click on the audio file to get a HUD with all the different types of fades available.

  • How do I create multi-track pitch adjustments without Master Control?

Please note before reading: I already know how to use Master Control and change the pitch of all the tracks within one Garageband project.
In the lastest updated version of Garageband (it's March 3, 2014 right now), you can't change the pitch of audio sound bytes individually. You can only change them all at once. So if you make a pitch adjustment using the Master Control, it changes the pitch of ALL the sound bytes within that project. That's the basic problem here.
What I am trying to do is change the pitch of individual layers of sound bytes. For instance: let's say you have two layers of audio in a project: One is Voice #1, the other is Voice #2. But I want to adjust the pitch of those two layers separately. So, on Voice #1 I want to make the pitch higher. And on Voice #2, I want to make the pitch lower.
Problem being with the new Garageband update, the only way I can change the pitches is by using the Master Control, which adjusts the pitch of both tracks at once, but doesn't allow me to adjust the pitches individually. Thus, both tracks are changed to the same adjusted pitch, which is what I DON'T want.
Please tell me a fix around this for now, and then DEFINITELY make mult-track pitch adjustments easier to manipulate when you have your next update of Garageband.
    Thank you!

actually, you can, the same ways one did in version 6.
you can use the Tranposition slider in the editor pane (unless the audio was imported, rather than recorded using GB), or use the AUPitch plug-in
