Multichannel audio downmix monitoring / "Map to Dual Mono" disengages when working with another sequence

I typically like to edit with multichannel / mono audio channels, but monitor audio with regular speakers by way of downmixing. I found the useful "Map to Dual Mono' button in the audio track mixer which allows one to monitor all the split channels mixed. The problem I've encountered is when I switch from the multichannel sequence I'm working in over to a regular sequence with other audio settings, and then go back to the multichannel sequence that I started with. When I do this, the "Map to Dual Mono" button disengages, and I'm not able to monitor the audio in the mixed way I'd like. After pressing the "Map to Dual Mono" button, everything's o.k. again.
Is there a way that once the "Map to Dual Mono" button is activated, that it stays activated, without having to re-press it again and again?
Here's a video description of my audio monitoring question: Adobe PP CC downmix disengages - YouTube

mmmm this is an odd one... the only thing I can think of is that you are changing these clips once they're in the timeline. It's done with a keyboard shortcut: option+L... it will change a dual mono track to a stereo pair. You can change these files back though... typing opt+l toggles the condition back and forth.

  • Media Encoder CC hangs when working with 96/24 audio

Title says it all! Has anyone else had this problem with Media Encoder CC? I just upgraded from CS5.5 to CC, and there were no issues with encoding 96/24 audio with CS5.5. I can reduce the audio files to 48/16 and theres no issue, but all the asset files for audio are in 96/24 and I'd of course rather work with the high resolution audio. I've tried searching the interwebz on the issue but can't find anything specific to the audio causing Encoder to hang. Thanks!

Update: We have discovered an issue where you can get this behavior if the source is a Premeire Pro sequence whose sample rate doesn't match that of the clips in that sequence. The solution is to match the sample rate of your sequence to that of your clips. Please let me know if this does not resolve your issue.
    Thanks,
    Tom
I had some 96/16 audio from an H4n recorder. AME just sat there. Also had the same problem exporting directly from PPro without using AME. Just sat there, no error, just nothing.
Changed the final sequence samples to 96kHz sampling and problem solved. That's a real bummer, since Adobe definitely pushes the sort of "edit anything" mantra a lot, and having to tailor sequence settings to a recently added audio clip is a step in the wrong direction. Glad to know it CAN be fixed, since these renders need to happen, but need that one patched up.

  • Unexpected problem: uncaught exception when working with audio files in Soundtrack Pro

    Hey,
Whenever I double click an audio file in the timeline to work on it, I end up getting the Error message: "Unexpected problem: uncaught exception" and Soundtrack Pro eventually crashes.  Also, this happens when I try to work with audio files in the file editor.  I have Leopard and am using Logic Studio 8.  Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks
    Matt

Didnt know how to remove the original clip from the STP arrange window - or whatever it's called in STPro.  So I could go no further in my perverse science experiment.
It also appeared that I could only import an aif but not a wav?
I gave up on STPro and did what I needed to do in Logic, which I use regularly.
Thank you for folowing up on this.
PS.  I used to use an old PowerPC version (1.0.3) of STPro and loved the way it visually showed the change in the waveform when you added each efffect.  It appears that the new version (3.0.1) does not allow you to do this anymore?  You can render or flatten the effects to see the final waveform, but then you are dead in the water and cant make changes?
Im such a newbie at STPro that I am probably not using it right?

  • Problem with dual currency when working with AMEX and VISA

    Hi all,
We are in process of implementing SAP travel on demand with integration of AMEX and VISA corporate cards. Paymentric was in charge of our configuration and the information is comming to our system now.
As per our set up, the statements are being procesed with errors, due the currency we are receiving the charges is USD instead of country home currency. Example -> Argentinian employee travel to Brazil, and paid with BRL currency. We are receiving the statements in USD instead of BRL (There is a validation in the tool which cannot process statements in other than local currency)
I spoke with AMEX and VISA representatives, and both says that they work with dual currency model, so changing the currency in the statements is not a possibility.
Are we missing something in the config? I was reading information and discover that other countries like China are having same issue.
    Thanks for your help,
    Hernán

    Hi Hernán,
credit card statements usually contain two currencies:
    1.   1. Local Currency: if the Argentinian employee travels to Brazil and buys something there, the local currency would be BRL
    2.   2. Billed Currency: this is the currency in which the credit card is billed (according to the credit card setup). Each transaction is converted to the billed currency in case of foreign transactions.
Cloud for Travel and Expenses knows for each employee exactly one home currency. An expense report is always processed with home currency.
Up to release 1502 it is not possible to import credit card transactions if the credit card billed currency does no match the employee’s home currency (there is no restriction to the local currency).
As of release 1505 this is possible, but it has to be activated in Business Configuration:
Travel and Expenses -> Expense Reimbursement -> Expense Input Channels -> Group: Credit Card -> Do you want to import credit card transactions with a credit card currency that differs from the home currency of the employee?
In addition, you must use the new posting interface "SAP ERP Financials Using IDoc (with extensibility)". If you detect settlement deviations or differences on the reconciliation or credit card account (split payment) due to the currency exchange rates in your financial system, you can correct this situation by implementing BAdIs in the ERP system.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Ralph

  • Is there a difference between mono & stereo when recording with single mic?

When creating an audio track to record vocals through a single condenser mic, is there a difference between selecting mono or stereo? if so, what's the difference?

Assuming your source is mono, there will be no sonic difference, and recording to a stereo Logic track will simply waste disk space. If you have a stereo microphone (i.e. it's actually a pair of mics packaged together), then it makes sense to record in stereo. If you're using a standard single microphone, record to a mono Logic track.

  • Dual G5 sleeps when working

My dual G5, running Tiger, has recently developed the destructive habit of going to sleep when doing any kind of 3D rendering, such as with Maya or modo. It will begin to render and within a few seconds, it will simply go to sleep. In the past, I have been able to wake it up by pressing the Return key, and it would resume rendering where it left off--very annoying, but useable. However, the problem has become worse, in that when it wakes up, everything will be frozen and will require a restart. As a consequence, no rendering can be done on the machine.
I have tried resetting the PMU, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference.
    Any suggestions?
PS: I have a quad G5 at home, and strangely-enough it has begun to exhibit the same symptoms (however, so far simply waking it up will allow it to continue rendering.).
I suspect the problem may be related to heat, but I am just guessing.

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
You could try running Hardware Monitor
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
to keep a check on what the temps are doing.
You may find a clue in Applications > Utilities > Console > system.log around the time of the involuntary nap. An 'overtemp' entry may look like this:
(Date)(Time) localhost kernel: PowerMac nn,n Thermal Manager: Thermal Runaway Detected: System Will Sleep
    or
(Date)(Time) localhost kernel: Power Management received emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
If there's nothing obvious, you could copy and post the log here.
The Apple Hardware Test, explained here
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/aht.html
may find a problem - or it could be something as simple as a build-up of fluff in the CPU cooling fins.
    Good Luck.

  • Mapping when working with file to file Scenario as Attachment

    HI ALL,
I have a file to file scenario and we are sending 3 files in a single message using the file attachment .(Using additional files option option in file adapter)
My issue now is can we do mapping tor this file send using this option like fileA will have one mapping logic and FileB also will the same mapping logic ...?
    Thanks
    Souz

Yeah, requirements are still not very clear.
If what you meant was have a multimapping fromt he main payload + 2 attachments to a single destination file, it's possible to handle attachments in Java mappings if you're on PI 7.1+ and extend the new Java Mapping class (AbstractTransformation) instead of implementing the StreamTransformation interface.

  • PE8 - Monitor Quality when working with MPEG2 files?

    Hi,
I'm still looking into whether to buy premiere or not and have a few questions which may all be related:
    - My original MPEG2 file is 704 x 576, Premiere exports as 720 x576. Are there really two different standards for widescreen?
    - My original video is nice and clear, it's not so wonderful in the  PE8 monitor. My short 1 minute MPEG2 did finish it's background  rendering and has a green line over the clip. Why is this not the same  quality? (I assume it's not due to it being the trial version, which has a big banner across the middle to prevent it being ripped off).
    - Premiere reports "Display performance will be poor due to incorrectly operating card or driver", although I've read that is isn't necessarily a problem.
    System Spec:
    - Intel i7 2.8ghz 860 Quad  core, Nvidia GT220 graphics card with 1GB memory, 4gb memory
    - Windows 7 pro 64 bit (Windows expeirence index is 6.5 out of 7.5)
    - latest video driver updated to  8.17.11.9675 (21/02/2010)
    - Currently running on PE8 Trial.
    - System disk: 37gb free (Intel X25-M solid state 80gb SATA2  disk), project/cache drive: 884gb free (SEAGATE 1.5TB Barracuda 7200RPM)

    Thanks for the feedback.

Some interesting info on aspect ratios:

It's all in interpretation rules.txt, although my rule doesn't currently work:

  • Realtek Audio driver and codec R.2.76 does not work with Windows 10

I just installed the new Realtek software R.2.76.  The install runs fine.  Unfortunately, there is no sound and the console hangs.
Fortunately, the uninstall also runs fine.  My system was beeping and chiming again in a few minutes with the old version.
    Sadly, Cortana remains mute.
    bill

The default is the Realtek built on the motherboard. It is also the default communications device. My ham stuff is plugged into a USB sound device. It has better RF shielding.
    ** Edit **
As suggested on another thread, I tested audio operation using Voice Recorder.  Voice recorder works fine in both record and play.  Cortana remains mute but appears to work otherwise.
Does it matter that this was an update from 8.1 and not a fresh install?  Is there an ISO for Build 10061?  I have a spare drive coming in the mail.
    ** Edit 2 **
I tried a few things last night.  I disabled the Realtek audio hardware in the BIOS. Reboot.  I plugged my speakers into the USB audio device and set it as the default (Inc. default as comm.).  Reboot.  Cortana was still mute.  This
appears to remove the possibility that Cortana's mute state has to do with the Realtek hardware.

  • I own a macbook pro mid-2010 - problem-updated to mountain lion and continuously crashes and reboots when working with audio and visuals (TRIED GFXcardstatus v 2.3) sometimes helps sometimes it does not, apple info ?

I know this is a widespread problem
I am not from the U.S.
what solutions does apple have for us? , are there any?
I read there's an issue with the NVIDIA card , is there anyone I can contact? I bought it in the U.S.

If the machine is less than 3 years old, Apple will replace the motherboard under a recall program. If it's older you may get stuck with that cost. I'd make a Genius Bar appointment and take it in.

  • Can't get a clip to behave as Dual Mono

FCPX 10.0.9 is refusing to treat just one of my clips as dual mono.
When I right-click, show in timeline, it opens in a timeline with a single audio track showing.
For all the other clips / projects, right-click -> show in timeline reveals two separate audio tracks.
This clip was shot in the same exact way as every other clip.  In fact, it was shot in between other clips that work.
When i select the clip, the inspector shows Channel Configuration - Dual Mono, in both the timeline and the event browser.  Same as all the other clips.
If only I could slip the audio separately in the project timeline - but if I try, all I can do is select part of the clip - I can "Expand audio components" and see the two mono tracks in the timeline... but if I try to move them, all I can do is select parts of the clip, whichever tool I use.  Can't move them separately.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. trashing and re-importing the clip.
    2. trashing and recreating the project.
    3. doing both of those together.
    3. duplicating the clip and importing that into a project.  (this solved the same problem for another clip, but doesn't work on the current clip).
    4. Quitting FCP and restarting.
    5. Setting the source clip to stereo, back to dual mono, then re-placing it into the project.
    6.  Waiting for all the background rendering, wavefom generating, etc (this solved it for another clip that was refusing to be dual mono).
    7.  Copying the camera card to the hard drive and importing from there instead of straight from the card.
    8.  Importing the clip with "separate mono and group stereo audio" checked, then again with it unchecked
    9.  Opening the clip in quicktime pro 7 and changing the audio channels from "left" and "right" to "mono" and "mono."
10 quitting, renaming the clip in the finder, and reopening FCPX
One thing I notice is that through all theses steps, FCPX never has to re-generate the audio waveform files for this clip.  It is seemingly remembering the clip and using a saved audio metadata set of some kind, which I think prevents me from solving the problem...
Dang!  I was so enjoying FCPX after a year of premiere pro.  Thought 10.0.9 had ironed out a lot of bugs, but glitches are the worst thing ever.

Wow - hours and hours spent...  no solution...
OK, when I "expand audio + video" in the project timeine I get...
Then collapse that, and "expand audio components"
Wow!  Dual mono.  And the waveforms are clearly different, indicating true dual-mono.  But I can't seem to independently move those tracks; all my tools just try to select parts of the clip.
If I click the clip and "open in timeline", it looks as above, but I no longer have the option to "expand audio components."
So for a different example, one that worked without any trouble or tricks...
    Then right-click, open in timeline...
Very different result.  That clip was shot AFTER the non-working one.  The clip I shot before works as well.  The odds that I changed something on my camera for that one clip, and then changed it back...??
I went through all my camera switches and menus (HMC-150, shooting AVCHD) and can't find anything remotely relevant to the problem at hand.
Also, as I said in my list of attempts at solving, a couple of other clips had the same problem and it went away with solutions 3 + 6 above.  So it's definitely, in my mind, a program glitch.

  • FCPX Dual Mono vs Stereo question

Hi everybody - I've been busy but recently on the Zumiez show I came out of it with a question:
I like to route each of my AJA KiPro ISO records two separate channels of audio, I send a line-feed to CH. 1 (left) and I run a NAT mic feed to CH.2, (right).  If I bring the captures into FCPX, for example to create short lifts, I want the producer to be able to choose between the line feed or the ambient mic, so I leave them as "Stereo", but it isn't really a stereo track.  I needed to adjust the levels, raise the line level and lower the mic level, but I can't do that unless I designate "Dual Mono".  When I designate Dual Mono, I can adjust the levels seperately and even apply filters indivisually, but then the channels are summed mono.
How do you keep stereo seperation on two individual tracks and still be able to make individual adjustments?  Or maybe another way to the same goal; can I set hard pans on a pair of Dual Mono tracks?
    Thanks for any help!  -Stephen

  • How do you set different volumes on dual mono?

I'm missing something, I'm sure, right?  I normally record a mic to a channel and NAT sound to another channel - so say for example, I might mic up a presenter on stage, and take that feed into Channel 1 (external source) and leave my on-cam mic set to internal for Channel 2 - so I can bring that up in the edit for either Q&A from the audience or just to swell applause.  In FCP7 audio tracks showed dual mono as two tracks with individual overlays so you could adjust each channel as needed.  In X I only see a single track of dual audio, and in the information box, I can check or uncheck the channel I want - and a lot of times, that's good enough, but how do you keep both channels and adjust the volume of each one seperately?

Tom - thank you.  So to make sure I am clear though, (my audio was always dual mono, and in the inspector they are represented as two seperate tracks where I have the option to check or uncheck each one), but the timeline, they appear as a single track and in your solution (which worked) you are saying to break apart (as in make them seperate from each other and able to fall out of sync?  that kind of break apart?)  it still worked I was able to see two tracks, similar to FCP7 - and I can adjust volume seperately on each channel, but are they no longer linked in terms of sync?  If I am understanding correctly, then is that to say there is no way to keep their connection to the video they belong to and also still see each channel and adjust each channel independently of the other?

  • Transcoding XDCAM from stereo to dual mono

I'm actually using Compressor at the moment, but am trying to convert HDV clips shot in stereo into XDCAM HD clips that will support write-back to my PDW-U1. But the U1 only supports "dual mono" audio, not stereo. I'm looking at the audio tab in my Compressor settings, and don't see such an option. I'm currently running tests, but has anyone found a way to create supported audio for write-back to XDCAM devices?
    Chris.

Panning the audio to the center does not work for me. Once you choose Dual Mono, a single track will be either left or right depending on which track it's on. I worked around this by making a new sequence with "Dual Mono" as the audio output. I then dragged the original HDV sequence into that timeline and my single channel-1 audio channel now comes from both speakers. But it's not stereo. Its Dual Mono. I wrestled with this into the wee hours and this was the only work around I could find to output a show to XDCAM without the audio being messed up.
Somebody needs to seriously get to work on fixing this problem. Many broadcasters are now accepting XDCAM as a submission format. This is great, but it has some serious drawbacks as it sits right now.

  • Multichannel Audio Export (.aif, .wav)

Hi everyone, I just submitted a feature request and want to encourage anyone who would like this feature to do the same (or, if I've somehow missed a way to actually do it, to tell me how - I've searched extensively on here, Google, Creative Cow, etc. though and am positive it can't be done).
I'll just paste what was in my request. Hope this is something that can be added in the very near future...
    Multichannel audio file export
Ability to output .wav or .aif files with multiple channels.
I work on a Mac, and we sometimes have to output multichannel audio files to send to clients for international distribution, specifically 4 channels (stereo mix L+R, music + effects L+R). The only way to do this out of Premiere/Media Encoder is as a quicktime .mov with no video. This isn't ideal as clients are requesting either .aif or .wav files.
This ability exists in Compressor for .aiff files, but I'm trying to avoid going back to Apple's suite as much as possible. It's irritating to have to output audio files separately from Premiere then open up Final Cut and output to Compressor to get a final, proper 4-channel audio file.
This is significant as we're looking to replace my computer soon and I'm pushing to go with a PC, where I'd no longer even have the option to go back into Compressor to do this.
For the record I also tried doing this through Audition which ironically seems to have even fewer audio exporting options than Media Encoder. It seems like a really simple feature that is lacking for no apparent reason..please include it ASAP, thank you.
Link to the feature request page: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
For the record, I know that for all intents and purposes, the Quicktime .mov audio file works fine. But it's still a pain, doesn't open properly in some players, and dealing with clients who use different software (Avid in this case) and don't have much experience handling this type of stuff and are specifically requesting .wav or .aif/.aiff; it's not my place to be their tech support, it's mine to deliver what the client wants. And it seems ridiculous to me that Compressor supports this with ease but Premiere/AME don't...

Hey Jim, are you on CC? I'm stuck on CS6 at work until we do a full hardware upgrade, they're waiting on real info on Maverick/new Mac Pro before making any decisions.
If this is a feature of CC now well..foot in mouth, I guess. Would still be nice in CS6 though.. I notice in your screenshot the source sequence says "multichannel", in mine it says "16 channel".
