Multiple Masks on same clip

I have a clip with several primary and secondary corrections on it and want to apply a mask to a primary correction.
So far so good, but how do I apply a different mask to the same clip but to a different primary or secondary correction layer?
SG allows me to use only ONE mask for the whole clip? Even with multiple primary and secondary corrections?
The problem is as soon as I apply a second mask to a different effect on the same clip, the mask already there is replaced by the now on I just created and the other mask ist lost.
Is this a lacking feature or is it something I do wrong?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Patrick.

Hi Patrick,
You didn't do anything wrong! But there is a way to add multiple masks to the same clip: Create a new grading track and add a new grading clip to the track (here is a link to an article showing you how to add new grading tracks: http://adobe.ly/PGrPvl)
You can add one mask per grading clip. If you just want one mask, add it to the original clip. To add a second mask, add a new grading track as described above. To add a third mask, add another grading track above the first one, and so on.
Let us know if this works for you!

  • Premiere Elements 8 shows MULTIPLE FRAMES ON SAME CLIP AFTER RENDERING

I  manually rendered clips on PRE8 on the time line.  When it finished I found multiple frames from the same clip on the sceneline.  Does anyone knows whether this is normal?

Unfortunately, video from still cameras almost never works in Premiere Elements.

  • How do you add multiple effects to the same clip

How do you had multiple effects to the same clip. I have tried for hours
I would like to add sepia and aged movie to the same clip. I heard it can be done, but have not figured out how to do it.
    anyone please.

Normally you can apply only one video effect at a time. But for Sepia, black and white, and others that can be done through the video Adjustments tab, you are in luck.
Aged Movie should already have a bit of a sepia tone.
If you want more of a sepia tone or you want to fine tune the sepia effect you can do it with the Clip Inspector/Video Adjustments tab.
Note: Thanks to Jeff Carlson of MacWorld for this tip.
If you're looking for a washed-out sepia appearance, first open iMovie's preferences and turn on the Show Advanced Tools option, which adds more controls to the Video Adjustments HUD and other areas of the program. Select the clip you want to alter and press the V key. Set Saturation to 0 percent, and then drag the Red Gain slider to 143 percent, the Green Gain slider to 90 percent, and the Blue Gain slider to 53 percent (feel free to tweak these settings to customize the results). Click on Done when you're finished. Note that the clip thumbnail still appears in color, as the video was shot, but the preview reflects your changes.--JC
If you need to apply the same settings to all clips, first select the clip you have adjusted. Then Edit/Copy. Then Edit/Select All. Then Edit/Paste Adjustments.

  • Clipping with multiple masks

Is there a way to clip an object with multiple masks? For example, with the outlined letters of a word?
    I'm using Illustrator CS3 on a Mac.
    Thanks,
    Eugene

    Eugene,
JPEG does not have transparency, but I don't think you really need it. All you want is for the background image to look lighter, right?
I think it would be easier to use an "Opacity Mask" rather than a clipping mask to create the effect you are after.
    To do that:
    1. Make a 75% gray rectangle the size of your photo and align it to the photo.
    2. Move the text that will contain the "solid" photo above the gray rectangle and make it white, then group the text with the gray rectangle.
    3. Select the group along with the photo and choose "Make Opacity Mask" from the Transparency flyout menu.
You can edit the opacity mask anytime, by selecting the masked group in the layers panel and clicking the opacity thumbnail in the transparency panel. To view only the opacity mask Shift-click on the thumbnail.
This should be easier to edit and export fine.

  • Same layer - multiple masks.

    Sorry ..real basic question.
How does one have multiple masks on the same Layer?
eg. 3 window frames  in one image (layer) , each requiring  an "insert" ( from one layer).

    Select your layer
Select the pen tool (letter g)
    Draw the first mask
Set the first mask to subtract
    Draw the second mask
Set the second mask to subtract
    Repeat as needed
    Another option
Add a colored solid to your comp above the layer you want to mask
Change the blend mode of the colored layer to multiply or overlay so you can see through it
Select the colored layer that you can now see through
Select the pen tool or other mask tool
Draw your masks using the underlying layer as a guide
Set the colored layer as an alpha inverted track matte for the layer you wish to mask

  • Ingesting multiple points of the same clip.

I am trying to find a use for Prelude but so far there is no joy.  Is there any way I can ingest a portion of a clip from the thumbnail and then ingest another portion of the same clip.  When I try to that I get an error even if I rename the first clip after it has been ingested.

    Hi,
To use the "partial ingest" feature in Prelude's ingest panel you will need to enable the "Transcode" option and select a format and preset after you set your IN and oUT points on the thumbnail. Prelude needs to create a new clip for you and by selecting your format/preset Prelude knows exactly what to create for you. Now press the INGEST button. Prelude will send a request to AME to render your new partial clip. When AME is done you should see a new asset appear in your project. You can repeat this operation to generate other partial clips. Prelude will assign unique filenames to each new partial clip.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Multiple edits from the same clip.

    Hi guys,
I have a project which requires a lot of different edits from the same clip.
Is there any way to do this without having to duplicate the same clip each time and then making my new edit?
    For instance -
Clip 1 is 20 minutes long.
My first edit is from 1:10 to 1:35.
I then duplicate Clip 1 and make another edit from 2:40 to 3:55.
    I'm using Premier CS5.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Sub clips are not a general edit way of doing things efficiently.
They are more of a way of creating a bin full of "selects" ( selected clips in a Selects Folder for easy and quick access and review). That is a time consuming process but works  well in some situations.
Standard general  edit practice is to edit from Source Monitor.
    drop Clip into Source Monitor
Mark In and Out point and drop that to the Time line. (many ways to do that Insert/ overlay/ shortcuts etc..)
Next...Move thru and create new In and Out and do the same
continue thru the Source Clip till complete...
Then on the Timeline ( sequence) Tim and work the clips.
Now ...some "learners" edit the source clip in the timeline  using Razor Tool...hacking and chopping and deleting and dragging bits of stuff all over the show.   Thats in efficient and clunky .

  • Multiple masks not adding like they should

    Hi all,
I don't use motion all that much, so I may have not done something right.  I have a video clip with an object I need to isolate from the background.  E object is complex enough where I'll need to have multiple masks make to do it properly.  So I add my footage to a group, then add my first mask.  Once it's set up, I select the footage layer again in the group and add a second mask and so forth.  The problem is it is only showing the top mask in the list of masks under the video clips layer.  If I reorder the masks in the layer, whichever mask is at top will be the only one that exposes the footage.  I checked and all masks are set to add, and all are part of the footage layer (there is a disclosure triangle on the footage layer that will show/hide the masks). I'm not sure what I may have done wrong.  Any tips would be welcome!!

Sorry I can not reproduce what you are seeing. Make sure all masks are set to add for the blend  mode and the invert check box is not checked. If that doesn't solve the problem, I would trash Motion preferences using Digital Rebellion's "Preference Manager' which is a free download.

  • Multiple Masks

Essentially, here's what I'm trying to do. I have a movie
clip that is a mask that I can move around. When I reach certain
areas of the stage, I want a new mask to expand (scale up or
something along those lines) and reveal more of the background. Can
this be done or do I need to have multiple layers of multiple
backgrounds as a workaround? Everything I've tried seems to only
display one mask at a time.
Also, I'm creating this file to work in a Flash 7
    player.

you can have multiple masks but an object can only be masked
by, at most, one mask. and masks can be moved and scaled.

  • Warp Stabilizer and Speed can't be used on same clip

...just my luck that on my first ever Premiere project (CS6) I'm building a timeline and need to use both the Rate Stretch Tool and the Warp Stabilizer on multiple clips. The message, "Warp Stabilizer and Speed can't be used on same clip" took me by surprise.
However, after research here on the Forum, I found a Workaround that I'm deploying:
"Apply the effects, nest and finally apply warp stabilize" Ann Bens
    Here's what I did:
In my only sequence -- Sequence 01 -- I highlighted a clip that I had already applied Rate Stretch to.
    chose Clip/Nest
This created a Nested Sequence 02 with the clip in it.
In Sequence 01, the clip now says, "Nested Sequence 02"
I applied the Warp Stabilizer to the Nested Sequence 02 clip and it worked. Both Rate Stretch and Warp Stabilizer have been applied to the same clip!
So I've done this like ten times to ten clips and now have 10 Nested Sequence folders.
    Questions:
    Are my step-by-steps correct?
Do I let these multiple Nested Sequences just keep piling up? (when I right click on a Nested Sequence and choose Clear, I get a warning message that I'm going to delete clip references)
Now that the workaround has worked, is there a way to close -- unlink -- from these Nested Sequence folders? If so how?
I am so Over My Head for a first project. I thought you could always compound Video Effects!
    NotOnSugarMountain

Best is to make a copy of the timeline or clips that you are going to multiple nest etc.
If you screw up you can easily replace nested clips etc with a copy from the copy you made.
There is an undo function but most of the time its not enough.

  • Adding 2 effects to the same clip!!!

    Hi,
Can you add 2 different video effects to the same clip in iMovie 9? You used to be able to do it in the old iMovie - how can you do it in this version. For example if I want to have aged film and vignetting on the SAME clip?

In the older versions of iMovie, you render as you go, so you could pile render on top of render. However, in the new iMovie, all rendering is done at the end, so you can only do one video effect per clip (more if you count the video adjustments).
However, you can simulate the effect of multiple renders by
    1) create a project just for this clip you want to manipulate. Drag the appropriate clips into the Project from the Event
    2) Apply the first effect. SHARE the project using QuickTime in Current Dimensions in Apple Intermediate Codec.
    3. Import the resulting file back into iMovie and place it into an Event.
    4. Drag this clip into your main project and apply the second effect.

  • Animate sketch (and the drawing hand) with multiple masks

I want to animate a bunch of illustrations (with 100+ path objects) i will draw inside Illustrator with my WACOM tablet and later add my Hand by motion path to draw it live.
What i did was to import the final .ai layer (comp sized 1080), add the path by copy & paste as a mask (or better as 100+ masks) and apply the Generate > Stroke effect. I ended up with a beautiful animation of my illustration, without using the path tool in AE.
Now i want to copy & paste the mask or motion path to the position of the image of my hand. Problem is: this just works by select and copy mask path, not multiple masks.
Is there a way to access the position data out of the stroke effect or another way to copy the exact position data of the motion path to match it with the actual position of the stroke effect?
    Would be great!

Thank you for your quick response, seems likely. I will reduce number of masks by using less several strokes in illustrator. And maybe there is a way to automatically join paths chronologically (endpoint of path below to startpoint of path above) in illustrator.
But what i keep in mind is that the stroke effect itself does exactly the same: it uses different masks sequentially as a motion path to locate a position, to where die path is drawn. Couldn't it be possible in the same way to move a null or a layer? Or how does the stroke effect face this "problem"?

  • Opacity Mask vs. Clipping Mask?

What is the difference between making a mask as an Opacity Mask vs. a Clipping Mask? Using both techniques in CS6 seem to end in the same result.
    Thanks.

    Stan,
You may get quite different, or should I say opposite, results with an Opacity Mask.
    You may try this:
Create a black or white path on top of something and toggle between ticking and unticking Invert Mask and between ticking and unticking Clip, and see how they are opposite, with black and white.
The ability to use the Opacity Mask to get get the appearance of a Clipping Mask or a Compound Path is quite different.

  • Rotoscoping Masks in same layer

Ok, question, I want to rotoscope a guy so I can put things happening behind him as he walks by. I took the object set it on the layer. Copied the original to have an image behind it unchanged. Then I tried to mask his head, and then his arm. Problem I am having is, I invert the first mask in the layer, when I try another mask, it deletes the top mask. How do I have multiple masks in one layer all invert at the same time so I can rotoscope?
    Thanks

Masks won't delete each other - you just need to change how they interact using the pop-up menu in the HUD - try ADD.
