My hard drive crashed on my PC and I replaced it but of course my iTunes info is gone. Do I need to start from scratch?

My hard drive crashed on my PC so I had to replace it. Is there a way to retrieve all the music I had downloaded & purchased. Unfortunately I did not back it up but it is on my iPod.

Use a third-party utility such as Phone to PC - macroplant.com.

My hard drive crashed on my imac and was replaced. I have no iphone backup. How do I sync without erasing my iphone?

    You don't.
The iPhone is not a backup device. You can use File>Transfer purchases in iTunes to extract media and apps purchased from the iTunes store. If you have music on your phone that came from other sources, you will need to retrieve the originals or purchase 3rd party software to extract it from the phone.

I was already using 10.7. But only had the disc for 10.6.

Sorry I am new to this. Am I in the right area? I am using my iPhone to make contact. I am worried.

  • How do I get songs on my ipods back into my itunes library, which was lost due to hard drive crash, How do I get songs on my ipods back into my itunes library, which was lost due to hard drive crash

Due to a hard drive crash I lost my entire Itunes library.  Majority of this was from an extensive CD library that I imported into itunes.  When I reloaded itunes and viewed my library I only found the titles purchased from itunes.  How do I get music off of an itune classic & itune nano ipods and put back into the library so I don't have to re import my extensive cd collection

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to transfer ipod songs back to computer. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • Repeat hard drive crash...maybe a dud replacement?

A few weeks ago, my 3 1/2 year old hard drive crashed. It was very full, i started a download, and I think it was just too much. And I did not back-up. Shame on me. I did however order a replacement hard drive. My brother (ex-mac-genius) put it in for me, noting that there was someone elses documents on the hard drive (it was a refurb, but not cleaned off). It worked fine for about 2 days and then the same thing as before happened: it locks up, I have to power down, and when I restart it is stuck at the apple screen with the little dial of bars spinning. Is there any chance it could be something other than the hard drive? Could something in the computer be killing hard drives or did I just get a dud.

At my experience, even a broken logic board cannot destroy a harddrive. Well, there may cases theoretically, but it is highly impossible (especially since you stated that the drive worked before).
... on the hard drive (it was a refurb, but ...
I more guess this is the reason. From which source have you bought a refurbished, not cleaned (you surely mean "unformatted, with accessible data") harddrive ?
It is always a good idea to buy a new harddrive, because you never know how the previous owner of a refurbished drive used it. Harddrives are very delicate, especially such of mobile computers.
Anyway, as recommended, try to perform some hardware tests first to exclude the possibility of a broken controller (but again, very unlike in my mind).

  • Old imac hard drive crashed... how to put ipod tunes into new imac's itunes

I'm sure this is something that's been revisited a number of times already... My "old" imac (2 years old -- yes I'm ****** but let's not go there) hard drive ceased living. I literally lost everything (had all data backed up, whew!).
Anyway, how can I put my itunes library, which is on my ipod, onto my new itunes on my new imac?
Thanks in advance for your help, Craig

You can't do this using regular Apple software (it's designed to work in one direction only). However if you Google "transfer from ipod to itunes" several helpful links come up with utilities you can download to do this.
But if you have protected music on your iPod, do remember to "authorise"" your new HD first.

  • Hard drive crash - re-download iTunes purchased songs?

    Hello,
My hard drive crashed on the weekend and I lost several purchases I made through iTunes. Is it possible to get permission to re-download them?

Are they synced to an iPod? If so, you can transfer purchases from iPod to computer. Apple is not obligated to let you download purchases a second time. This is why it's important to have a backup.

  • Hard drive crashed after mac security update

My hard drive crashed right after downloading and installing the mac security and safari updates last night? Other than doing a complete re-install from my installation dvd and back-up, is there another way to fix this problem?

Nope. You may have to replace the drive that crashed if you cannot reformat it.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. When you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation, after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. Now you can begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to make your
             installation current.

  • My hard drive crashed.  Do I have to re-buy everything I lost?

My hard drive crashed a while back and I lost all of the iTunes music that I had purchased. I have now replaced my hard drive. Do I have to go back and re-purchase everything I lost, or does the iTunes web site maintain a record of my purchases so I can download them again for free??? HELP!

apple does not allow but one download of what you buy, and recommends you backup what you have or you will have to buy it again.
If you have an ipod you can copy it off the ipod. If not you can HOPE they will offer a free redownload to you by emailing the store. there under NO obligation to do so but some have had luck in doing this. You can email them by filling out the email form at the bottom of this page http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/email
