I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful. -
I have an old i tunes account attached to an old email account that is no longer valid. have forgotten the apple id attached to this acct. so no longer can get the forgotten id sent to the email. I have made a new apple id and email is attached but my laptop will not allow me to download again and start over. although really dont want to start over , as have alot of music in my old account. Please help! thanks

I have a iPhone 5. In usage, it says i have 2.1 gigs used because of photos and camera. I have deleted all my photos via iPhoto and now reset the phone back to factory settings in order to try to solve this problem, to no avail. Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.

iTunes says I have 2.5 gigs of music on my iPhone 5s but my iPhone says I have no content. Any idea where my music went to? I deleted all my music and started fresh with no music. iTunes will not import non-iTunes purchases from iOS devices. If you still have your old computer you can transfer your iTunes library to your new one.

I managed to get rid of the phantom usage. Restoring iPhone and resetting the phone settings/data do not work for me.
I had to move the Date on my phone earlier by 1,2,3 months and found the phantom photos in the Recently Deleted Folder. Next, I deleted the photos manually from the Recently Deleted Folder and the usage got freed up from my iPhone. -

I know by the date of this thread that I'm probably too late to help you but I had the same problem and just figured out what the "other" really was. It is application archives.
I'll explain it if you're curious, if not just skip to the next paragraph. When you sync your device and it is trying to update apps it doesn't want to lose the old app while its doing that. So it uploads an "application archive" zip file. Those files normally get deleted once the sync is over, but If that sync gets interupted you have all those zip files there taking up space.
You don't have to restore your iOS device and lose all your contacts, messages, app data. All you have to do is use a iOS device file browser and delete some old partial apps from incompleted syncs.
I use "DiskAid" or "iFunBox" but you can use any app that can change the files on your device. I'm going to tell you how to do it using DiskAid.
First download and install DiskAid
Once it's installled open it and plug in your device.
Click on your iPhone/iPod/iPad then on:
Storage, then
Media, then
Application Archives,
Then just delete all thos zip files! (they will usually have weird name such as "com.NameOfTheCompanyWhoMadeTheApp.NameOfTheApp.zip" (Except it would have the name of the company and the app instead.
It won't change anything else on your device. It's perfectly safe.

my iPhone 4s keeps showing more space being used for photos than i have -
i have deleted cache folders, unselect and reselect in iTunes I read one post
where they said keep syncing and in a couple days it would correct itself, that
hasnt happened. I have see others have the same issue but no solution and nothing

I have cleaned everything off, but it still says the same in iTunes.
I have 16GB of apps on a 32G Pad.

PXI-2532 switch cannot be read in MAX
