My imac is in for repair :(

okay before i start i am in not any way shape of form going to bad mouth my macs. infact i love my apple stuff to bits i have a imac late 2009 21.5, mac-book late2009 ipad 32wifi, iphone4 32gb and iphone3 32gb(wifes) and a couple of itouches not to mention all the other stuff from apple, aperture trackpad battery charger etc.
my problem is with the store in victora square in belfast
i left my imac in to get the screen sorted (the was a dusty like mark on the top left corner getting worse every week) so they are gonna replace the screen and glass. they had to wait on the parts thats fine!. i left it in on the 25th august and i still havent got it(the parts arrived a few days later after it was left in. they say they are to busy to get round to fix it.. like come on what is it FFS its been over 2 weeks now and still nothing. every time i ring they tell me parts are there but its not fixed yeat!.
is there any one i can ring except for the store? im pulling my hair out now i miss my beloved imac.

You are out of luck. I am having the same issue with my iMac and the local apple store here in Jacksonville FL. The wired network is broke a while ago. I used it via the wifi card. Two weeks ago, I dropped it at the apple store before leaving for a business trip, thinking it would be done by the time I got back. Sadly, it is still for repair. When I dropped it off, they told me it will take a week to receive a new motherboard and install it. Last time I called the store (couple days ago) they told me they had no idea how long it will take.
Probably just part of apple's growing pains. Quality will probably continue to suffer as they grow and they have to build up the customer service infrastructure to keep up with the inevideble repairs.

  • Unplugged my imac by accident and unable to unmount volume for repair

Managed to unplugged my imac yesterday without realizing it was still on. Now when trying to repair the disk I get: unable to unmount volume for repair. I tried to reinstall OS Maverick but it goes to OS X Yosemite telling me that I need to go to the app shop (the OS X Yosemite update never worked) and can't since I am blocked in Utilites. Can you please help? I don't want to lose my files.
    I have an IMac 25" 3 years old-on Maverick
    Thanks

If the computer will not see the internal HD when you start in the Recovery volume then it may be damaged. Time to take it to an Apple Store or AASP tone looked at.
You can attempt to reset the SMC and PRAM and that may help, if you don't know how do the SMC 2-3 times and instructions are in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • Ship in iMac for repair?

    Hi,
I've just come home from my third 2012 iMac display replacement.
This one has a horrible yellow tint/gradiet and very low brightness. Again.
(Are Apple using inferior replacement parts?)
Anyway, there are no AASPs near me and I've not got time to take another 2 hour journey to the store.
Is there any way to have Apple collect it from me?

Call Apple to arrange to have it shipped to them for repair. They will provide you with a shipping container that will be delivered to you. It will contain an RMA return label that is pre-paid.
Package up the machine only. Arrange for pick-up. Apple will repair it and return it to you, also pre-paid.

  • Deactivate indesign from a broken computer in for repair?

I have the design premium suite (CS5) and my imac died a few days ago. I sent it off for repair, hopefully I haven't lost too much work. I installed CS5 on my new mac pro but it is not installing correctly, it won't take updates, and indesign is locking out and I can't even quit properly. I assume this is because I didn't get a chance to deauthorise on the other computer. Is there any way to deauthorise it without access to the other HD?
    Thanks

It probably needs the update patches, for starters, but you say it won't take them. How have you tried to update?
Font manager auto-activation plugins can be a problem, as can other third-party plugins and utility programs running in the background. If the new computer runs Mavericks, that's also a potential problem since CS5 was not meant to run on that OS.
Finally, since you said the other Mac is "broken" I've presumed you didn't migrate InDesign to the new machine, but if you did, that won't work and you'll need to uninstall and reinstall the program clean.

  • Can a friend bring in my laptop for repair to an apple store?

Hi I am an American living in Italy. I have a friend who's going into NYC and I wanted to know if he could take my macbook into for repair with my warranty? Does he need to bring my ID or a signed approval?
    Thanks

My suggestion would be to have your friemd ask what ID is required when he calls the store for the appointment to deliver the MB.
I know when I took an iMac in for a friend, I asked and the Apple Store I was taking it to said that there was no problem.

  • IMac needs to be repaired - what would you recommend ?

Ive need to take my 10 Month old iMac into the Apple shop where I bought it from for a repair , ( screen problem ) Ive never had to take my Mac in for repair before so I really don't know what to do in the way of '' preparing '' it to be looked at by the technicians , I really would not like some one to play around with say my photo collection, Etc ( I have a full system backup on an external HDD ) , what would recommend I do to '' prepare '' the iMac ?

Hi Graham, yes I am up here in the land of the Red dust , where a Mac is thought of as a beef burger , Leopard is a big cat, and mounting is some thing else.
I think I know exactly where you are.
+Its good to hear that the Maccenter is reliable , a phrase not commonly used in the Thai language+ ,
The build up that has occurred with Apple here over the last couple of years has been fairly good and the way the iStudio/iBeat franchises are run is pretty good in the main. Maccenter has been the responsible agent for warranty work for a number of years: they do not repair, but test and replace.
+but I assure you I will have my fingers firmly crossed and of course an old rolled up copy of the Bangkok Post on stand by to firmly thump the iBeat managers desk , should It become necessary.+
Well, you will know how shouting here is best accomplished only at the really correct time. And as for the Post, open it (or at least the Database section). <g>

  • HELP! iMac is FROZEN for past two hours.

imac is frozen for past two hours. I was doing a reinstall of the OS because mail searches were not working. I'm afraid of shutting off and restarting for fears of losing my hard drive which I understood would be ok except for a fresh install of system.
    WHat can I do?

If I'm recalling correctly, to disable extensions, boot up while holding down the shift key. You'll then be able to open the extensions manager to revert the set-up. After getting that airport issue resolved, then, due to the hard shutdowns, don't forget to run an os 9 disk utility to repair the hard drive prior to downloading any update.
You'll probably want to post additional questions to the OS 9 boards, here:

  • Any chance of iMac G5 first generation repair program be active again?

Any possibility that the iMac G5 first generation repair program will be active again?
I had no idea about this program since I was away overseas for few years and by the time
I return in 2009 and used my iMac G5 again, it started to have problems with display and then later the power supply I think?
Now I have just left the iMac G5 alone and let it sit on my desk like a display only and unable to use it thinking to fix it will be way too expensive.
Then today decided to check online to see if there are other solutions other than throwing it away as a garbage,
I found there was actually an extended program and I missed it!!
Because of this encounter I disliked using apple and reluctant to buy any more of apple products due to many limitations and this
extremly expensive iMac G5 I bought in 2005 and barely used it.
Hopfully there are other solutions to this old iMac G5 I have that I cannot use any more along with the expensive Final Cut Pro ver 4.5
studio suite I bought that only works with it.

There is no chance the repair extension progrm will be renewed, but call Customer Support and explain the situation. You might get lucky and find someone who's having a very good day --  or not -- who will OK the repairs. Be polite; don't start by ranting about how you won't buy any more Macs.
But I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. The program ended three years ago, in the fall of '08, I believe. If you had reported the problem in '09 when it started, you might have had a much better chance.
Perhaps one needed to have registered the computer -- I don't know --- but I don't believe any of the affected owners, registered or not, were notified by Apple of the program. You can try making the point that you were never notified of the program's existence and therefore had no way of taking advantage of it.
The iMac G5 is by now a "vintage" Mac, and I don't even think the Apple Stores will work on it. Maybe an AASP will, but the parts they get for it from Apple, if any are still availble, may be very dicey, anyway.
There are a few places that may still work on these for far less than Apple or an AASP.

  • How Do You Contact Apple for Repair?

Hey i want to send my mac off for repair but i don't knwo how to contact them so i can send it off. Any suggestions?

The number to call depends on your location! Also, if you have one or more apple stores near you.
I live in the Philadelphia area, and we have 3 Apple stores within a 1 hour drive. On Sunday (12/31) the power supply died on my iMac G5. I could not get an appt at the nearest Apple store, but got one at the second closest. They told me that it would be 3 days to replace the power supply because they needed to order the part. I asked them to check other stores, and in fact the one farthest from me had the part. I drove there in about 1 hour, was seen immediately (the genius at the first apple store made an appt for me) and the repair was completed in 10 minutes, saving me 2 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes.
    Good luck!

  • IMac came back from repair with a loose hinge..

So my iMac had some fan problems, went away for repair under AppleCare, and came back fully working with a logic board replacement. Excellent, no problems. However, the hinge seems much looser than it was when I left, such that a bang or knock on my desk causes it to begin to droop downwards. It means I need to re-situate it somewhere between 5 and 10 times a day, and presumably it'll only get worse.
Can I tighten the hinge myself? I'd REALLY rather not lose the thing for another two weeks while they get a screwdriver in there. Is this something I can fix?
    Thanks!

They collected it from me the first time, and it wasn't a separate courier or anything. I called the people who repaired it and the engineer is going to return my call, but it seems like something I should be able to do myself. How do you get the stand off? Presumably it's doable, to add the VESA mount?

  • Can i bring into genius for repairs if i bought it from a reseller?

I am wanting to puchase the iMac 27".  I do qualify for education pricing, however, I see B&H photo offers no tax, free shipping, half off AppleCare, free Parallels for way cheaper than my student pricing.
My question is, I worry about if something is wrong with it.  I want to be able to bring in into an Apple Store and not have to ship back and forth to a reseller.
I have read others posts that Apple tells the customer to deal directly with the reseller, but that does not make sense if you have Apple Care.
Can anyone help?  I need to order it by tomorrow.
Thank you for any help you have.

If you did not buy it from apple they will not replace it with a replacement unit they do make you wait for repair parts to come in
Sorry, but you should read the warranty - it does not state such a thing. Apple - like most manufacturers - allows themselves options and the options are that they will "repair or replace" - it is of no consequence where the unit was purchased. The machine is Apple and the warranty is by Apple. No matter where it was purchased, they will at first attempt to repair the problem; usually a minimum of three same repairs need to have been attempted before they may agree to replace the machine.

  • I was given the wrong macbook when I gave mine in for repair.  I want to complain.  Also, they wiped ALL my data off the hard drive.  I want to complain to someone in authority.  How?

I am extremely disappointed and angry with Apple service.  I am a writer and booked three weeks in Spain so that I could finish my book.  On the second day my laptop cut out on me asI was working on it, so I took it to Goldenmack in Cadiz.  Not only was I given someone else's macbook when I went back to collect it, but then when I returned to the UK, the Apple shop in Brighton managed to delete ALL my data from the hard drive because I was unlucky enough to get a trainee on her first day.  I have since learned she should not have deleted my data without even running a diagnostic.  She told me she was going to 'restore' the drive.  I took this to mean she was going to restore my work.  But no!  She erased the lot.
I complained and eventually was put in touch with a supervisor, who I was told  had authority to resolve the issue. She said she would get the shop to phone me.  That was ten days ago and I'm still waiting.
Ok so there's nothing I can do now to get back the three chapters of my book that I have lost and didn't back up, but the  hard drive on this laptop is still faulty.  I try to back up my work every time I use the machine but as soon as I attach an external drive, the whole thing shuts down. I can't use it any more as I can't risk losing any more work.    This laptop is only just over a year old and this is just not acceptable, especially since I have really looked after it.
This is an appalling service I have encountered from Apple, and I am not going to ignore it.  I have contacted the young chap whose laptop I was erroneously given, and the repair of which I paid for! (although I did eventually get a refund),  to ask him if he had been given mine as well.  He said he had been completely unaware that his laptop had been given to me and he is furious as he had loads of "sensitive material" on it."  I have no idea in whose hands my laptop has been either, or indeed what damage it sustained while it was supposed to be in for repair.

  • Took Macbook in for repair at a family shop. They switched computers on me!

    Hi guys,
Just last week, I took my Macbook in for repairs at a family shop. The computer was actually purchased at this same shop about a year ago and I got it used, and for some reason it was running slow. They told me that it could be that I needed a software update, but that they will take a look at it. I informed them while they were resolving that issue, I would like to purchase an external hard drive, and if they can transfer my pictures, videos, and music to my external.
A few days later, I did not receive a call from them, so I called and they told me that they needed more time. I called them again later that day, and they told me the same thing. I called them the next morning, and they said they still needed more time. At 6PM, they finally told me that it will be ready by 7PM.
When I picked it up that evening, I noticed a few things.
    1) All my data on my internal hard drive was ERASED. I asked him where was my data, and he told me that I told someone that I wanted to transfer EVERYTHING from my internal to external. I said no, I just wanted some media backed up to the external, but not to wipe out my internal.
    2) It was not my computer! I noticed little things here and there and determined that it was not mine and they somehow provided me another one. The computer now has a different name to it and also a different password to which I do not know. My original computer also had scratches that I can easily recognize, and on this computer, it shows none.
At this time, I am still holding on to this computer. It was my mistake for not obtaining the serial number before I I gave it to them for repair. The receipt when I purchased it does not also show the serial number. My question is....Is there a way for me to try and obtain the serial number? Maybe through my other Apple devices such as my iphone? I want to submit a police report, but I cannot justify this w/ out any proof. Your thoughts?
    Thank you!
    Jackson Dinh

Have you ever taken it to an Apple Store (to the Genius Bar)? They would have records of your serial number, as well.
Conversely, you can get the serial number from this computer, call Apple, and see if there was any history of repairs for it. That way, if they show any cases or repairs opened since you've owned your computer (and that you haven't done), you can easily tell that this was somebody else's.

  • Full HD backup before sending in for repair-software recommended/how-to?

    Hi all,
I have to send my MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.4.11 in for a warrantied repair to the CD/DVD drive (MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D). It just doesn't want to read discs anymore and has always been a bit finicky. There are a few other issues too like the finder crashing a lot. I've already had one logic board replacement on this machine and have been putting up with the finder issues as it is inconvenient to be without it for a week, but the optical drive issue has to be fixed....anyway...I digress....
Can someone please advise me on what software would allow me to completely back up (clone???) my HD before I send it in for repair? I have a 160gb firewire 400 drive for the task.
I'll probably need some help getting the data from the external to my MacBook when I get it back as well.
Many thanks for any suggestions/help/detailed directions/the lot......

  • I sent my iphone for repair. before I sent it I did a backup (on the 7th of august). no i got my phone back but in iTunes I only see a backup from 21st of july. How can I access my latest back up?

I sent my iPhone to Apple for repair. Before I sent it I did a backup (on the 7th of August). Today I got it back, but my iTunes only shows me a backup from 21st july and from today. How can I access my  backup from 7th of august?

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.
