My iPad 2 struggles to connect to Airport Base Extreme

Hello.
I am new to this site and relatively new to Apple products as well. I purchase an iPad 2 a while back that usually had pretty poor connection to my old router and modem. A month ago my modem died and was replaced by the cable company with a brand new one, very quick, 15-20mbps. At the same time I updated my router because I couldn't get a very good signal across the house on my iPad. I purchased a new Apple Extreme Airport Base ($200). Setup was incredibly simple through the iPad and took less than a minute. The problem I am having is that the iPad has a very poor connection to the Airport Base. My laptops and video game systems all have a perfect connection, but the iPad continually loses connection and is very slow to load. At the office we have a netgear router and it works perfectly there.
Being new to Apple I have no idea what to do about fixing this. All my non Apple products work perfect on the Apple router, but the iPad 2 does not. Can anyone help trouble shoot this or know the steps to create a better connection between the two? I included a screenshot of the router/modem on the Airport Base Utility screen from the iPad.
Below is a screen shot on the iPad to show that it is connected, but it still struggles.  Thanks for any tips!

  • Connecting external harddrive to airport base extreme

I'm trying to connect my non-mac external harddrive to my airport base extreme. However, within airport utility I have no option of connecting disks. I have contacted apple and they say this may be my best option for finding a way around that...any ideas?

jrandallswanson, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have a square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) or a round AEBS?
    "Identifying AirPort hardware"
How is the drive formatted? Drives must be formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) or FAT. If it is formatted NTFS it won't work.

  • Airport Base Extreme & HD media streaming poorly

    Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else is having an issue with streaming media from the Airport Base Extreme?
    So my setup is
1Tb Buffalo Drive into logitech USB2.0 Hub into ABE
2 x PC's on wired network through ABE
1 x MacBook Pro on wireless
I use the MacBook Pro as a media server through the tv/stereo and had the gold idea of using the ABE as a file server for music/movies
In reality things are not as simple. I cannot stream movies without very noticeable jumping of the movie and music jumps as well - this is to the mac. To the PC's the streaming is fine with no problems. If i stream movies / music from the ABE to the PC's its fine.
so media streaming as follows (Server) -> (Client ) - Result
    PC -> Mac - OK
    Mac -> PC - OK
    ABE -> PC - OK
ABE -> Mac - All media choppy
Anybody else had this problem and if so has anyone managed to solve it?
    Cheers in advance
    Ben

On your Macbook, bring up the Activity Monitor application and
select the network tab. It will show you a graph network data transfer
rates. Perform the Macbook tests you mentioned and note the rates
and character (smooth and continuos, very spiky, lots of gaps,etc.).
Also, what software are you using for each of your tests. Just want
to make sure comparing apples to apples (no pun intended.)

  • Macbook OSX 10.6.8 pro wont connect to airport base station anymore

all other machines have  no problems.  It worked earlier in the day-put to sleep-came back- now it can't something is wrong with network settings but nothing changed.  Two PC's are connected to same cable/Airport base station wirelessly with no issues it's just my machine.  I've rebooted a few times-that didn't help.  i can get my macbook's airport to work with my wireless aircard so it's not my the internal wireless modem, it's got to be my wireless settings for the airport basestation itself-but nothing chagned in those few hours it was asleep?  I have been having issues for a few weeks requiring that I run diagnosis on this home wireless network connection, but it usually gets resolved and coems back on-now it seems gone.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am not sure if it helps but it looks, when I renew the DHP, nothing is in the router section.
(not that technically savvy-but usually can wing it if the directions are too bad).
    This is running OSX 10.6.8
    Thanks,
    Megan

Your System Preferences > Network > TCP/IP  should be set as follows
    IPv4 - DHCP
IPv6 - off (for now, you might have to enable it in the future, but it can be off for now)
There is nothing in the DHCP Client ID box as it's not required.
If your clicking the "renew lease" likely means your date and time on the computer is wrong.
Go to System Preferences > Date and Time and set a time zone and in the first screen, set the date and time automatically. then reboot the computer.
If your having  problems with your computer remembering the date and time,
    perform a PRAM reset
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
If your still having problems with your machine holding the date and time, not keep ing your System Preferences changes after a reboot, then open your
Users/Library/Preferences folder and look for a file called
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
and move it to the Desktop, reboot the computer and try to set the date and time again, reboot to see if it works remmebering your system preferneces changes, if it does, then delete the desktop file.
If your still having trouble after that, create a new user account and log into it, see if the problem still continues.

  • Problem connection between airport bases

    Hello everyone
I would like to ask a question if someone could give me a solution if it exists
I own four bases airport installed in a three-story house in this way:
Airport Extreme configured as "creates wireless network" on the third floor
Airport Express (Express1) configured as "access to the wireless network" always on the third floor
Airport Express (Express2) configured as "extend wireless network" on the second floor
Airport Express (Express3) configured as "extend wireless network" on the first floor.
All airport bases are updated to firmware 7.6.4
Occasionally the network configuration changes, and when it's like in "Fig 1", the wireless network signal on the first floor is very weak, and when the configuration is as in "Fig 2" signal on the first floor is at maximum capacity and will takes for all the floor.
I already tried to change the radio channel, to enter ip fixed on airport express but without resolving anything.
    Do you have ideas about?

It's OK if Express 3 gets a signal from Express 2, as long as it gets a significantly stronger signal from the AirPort Extreme than it does from Express 2.
Yes, I over exaggerated the situation..
My problem is in the middle of a repair where I have an old TC connected by wireless in extend mode to my main TC in the next room is the rest of the network on extend then goes haywire.. so I have seen the effect.. and it seems difficult to stop it although you did find an improvement in selecting a particular unit to extend..
I need to get over my laziness btw and run ethernet to the places that have so far missed out.. there is only one area.. but it means going right around via the ceiling or right through bottom and up double storey outside wall.. I had the whole house wired 10base2 from 1994 and it worked great.. so easy to simply put another outlet into the single run of coax.. and it seemed super fast back then.. Move on 20 years.. and doing it all again in Cat6 doesn't thrill so much. It is also against certain rules in Australia.. shhh . You cannot do your own data cabling.. !! Such is the state we live in.. !! Of course all my data cabling was installed before the law changed.. You can tell because I wrote the date on it .. 2006 just yesterday. This is called sarcasm btw.. !! Cat cable has a date on it.. and I keep a roll from 1993 for the job.. yuk yuk yuk.

  • Iphone, IPad and printer not connecting to Airport Extreme

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my wireless. I have an one year old airport extreme. I can connect to my IMac wirelessly and my macbook pro without any problem, however my iphone, printer and IPad have problem connecting to my wireless network. The only way my iphone and ipad can connect is if I'm next to the airport extreme. If I go to the next room it will disconnect, even thought the signal appear to be find. This is not the first time I have this problem. I corrected the problem by going to the setting and turn off and on the Robustness which I don't know why I no longer have that option on the airport extreme. I have reset, power cycle all device and no luck.

The iPhone includes a b/g compatible wireless card, so "n" alone will not work, and the same when set to "n/a".
I have my Airport Extreme Time Capsule set up via simultaneous dual band so my MBP with an "n" compatible wireless card can connect via "n" with my iPhone connected to the other band via "b/g".
In regards to your MacBook slowing down, is this in regards to transferring data from one computer to another, or is this with your internet connection only?

  • MacBook Pro - Can't connect to Airport Base Station in XP

I have a new MacBook Pro running 10.4 and Win XP using Boot Camp. I also have an Airport Extreme Base Station. The MacBook finds and can use the base station perfectly when booted to 10.4. When booted into XP, it just keeps saying that it can't see any wireless networks (none available). I've tried rebooting the base station, repairing the connection in windows - Pretty much everything I can think of, but still no joy. It's really starting to stick in my craw. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this to work I'd appreciate the help, as having to re-boot the Mac to copy stuff across to my G5 constantly is super annoying.....
    Thanks

Thank you! It's very difficult for me to even mention the "W" word without somehow belittling it. I truly loathe using that OS, but am sadly forced to since we use Access for writing up orders. Woe is me!

  • Using a HDD connected to airport base station

I have a usb HDD connected to my Airport and would like to use it as the time machine disk for my macbook. However, time machine set-up cannot detect the drive. So is it possible to do this?

AirPort Extreme 802.11 n or Time Capsule will support a USB HDD (or printer). The AirPort Express USB port only supports some USB printers. Which AirPort do you have?

  • Imac w/airport on't connect to airport base

    Hi-
I have just inherited a 800Mhz 17" flat panel iMac. I purchased an Airport card which I've just installed. The network preference screen shows my network but I can't connect. It is an Airport Extreme b/g- the little white spaceship. I am using WPA2 security. Is there a work around that will allow me to use my Macbook and the new iMac with this network?
    Thanks for your help.
    --pat

I have encountered a similar problem. I have an iMac flat panel G4 running 10.4 and connect wirelessly through a Belkin PreN router. I use MAC addressing and my other computers (One Intel Imac (10.5.4); One G5 Imac (10.5.4); Two Macbooks (10.5.4) and one G4 IBook (10.4) all connect without a problem. Whether Mac Addressing is turned on or off the iMac flat panel does not connect-- although it sees the router; asks if I want to connect and then tells me there is an error. What is stranger is that there are very infrequent times that it has connected and worked without making any changes. I think that the bottom line is that the protocols for the airport card are just too out of date to run properly with newer standards.

  • HP PSC1410v Connected to Airport Base Station

I have a PSC1410v connected a Base Station. I have a 10.5.x machine (Mini, connected wirelessly) and 2 10.4.x machines (G5 tower and G5 iMac, network connection for both is wired). I can print to the PSC1410v from the G5 tower only. When I try to add the printer to the list of the other machines I get the following:
Mini (10.5.2): The printer driver is not listed when trying to add the printer. The HP AIO software is installed (latest from HP website. When connected directly the mini, it prints just fine.
G5 iMac (10.4.11): When trying to add the printer, the driver that is automatically selected is HP All-in-one 3.2. When trying to use that, it gives error -9672.
I've searched this forum and other forums. I find similar complaints but I have not found answers. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Losing Connection with Airport Base Station

This issue popped up a few months ago but I've not been able to devote any time to find a work-around or a solution because I've just been too busy.
My iBook G4 consistently loses connection to my Airport Extreme and Airport Snow Base Stations. The Extreme is at home and the Snow is at work. This happens during any period of inactivity or if it has gone to sleep and I wake it up. All I get is a spinning beach ball and the only way to get reconnected is to do a restart. This happens both at home and at work.
I am currently running 10.4.3 and my Airport software is all up-to-date. Some time ago, I read somewhere that this situation was somehow related to those with 1G modules in their RAM slot but can't seem to locate that info any more. I have 1G of RAM total with 512 in my RAM slot.
Any help appreciated on this. I've reached my breaking point with the constant restarts.
    Thanks!

  • Connecting via AirPort Base Station

I recently gave an iBook (running OS 10.4.11) and an AirPort Dual Ethernet Base Station to a friend. This combination worked flawlessly at my house, but I cannot get it to work at her house. Curiously, everything indicates that AirPort is functioning, that the iBook is connected to the Internet via AirPort, and a strong signal exists. However, we cannot connect to the Internet. I tried a hard reset to the Base Station, but that did not seem to have any effect. What are we doing wrong?

    Hi David,
For a start, type this into the bowser's URL bar...
    17.254.3.183
If that gets you to apple.com, then try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.254.3.183 behind the scenes.

  • Not Showing Connection to Airport Extreme

We have been using the AirPort Express for a few months now, and everything has been going extremely smoothly, every once in awhile it would seem to be getting very slow, but other than that, me and my family of four could easily use it with no issues what so ever. But, about two days ago, it stopped working all together. On a mac lap top when you would try to connect to the wifi, there would be a exlimation mark over the full bars of wifi. Therefor, I called my internet provided, and was on the phone with them for about three hours yesturday, and at the end of it, we got a new modem to see if that would work.
They gave me a ARRIS, and hooked it up to the AirPort Express. Comcast tooled me to wait about thirtee minutes for it to start working. And, nothing happened. I was on the phone with Comcast again today, and it seemed like we litterly got no where. But, I have identified that it is the AirPort that is the issue. I am currently using my laptop pluged in using an ethernet cable to the modem, and it works fine. But now, it doesn't show that the AirPort is even up, therefor I can not connect to the settings, like I could have before. The light is currently blinking on the AirPort Express, and that is about it. The only things I have tried are hitting the reset, than doing a facotry reset, none which have worked.
If anyone knows why this is happening, it would be greatly apricated,
    Connor

    Ok,
I have done this, and nothing worked. Therefor I went to the Apple Genius bar to see if they could to a quick fix for me. They did something to it, renamed it test, and thats as far as I got with them over there. But, when I plug it in now, I can see the network. I was apple to get into it, but there is still no internet, and a exlimation mark over where it would show your connnection.
On the app, it is currently giving me two error messages. The first being Internet Connection, " Your AirPort base station does not have a valid IP address. Make sure your AirPort base station is connected to your broadband modem or local network, verify your settings, and try again. If you still can't connect, contact your Internet sercer provider". And the second being No DNS Servers, "This AirPort base station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to the internet."
Thanks you for the responce again,
    Connor

  • Can't connect to Airport over ethernet with XP Home SP3

I can't connect to Airport Base station dual ethernet over ethernet with XP Home SP3. The XP lan connection said Windows could not complete : Renewing your IP address, when i try to repair the connection. the apple Extreme Admin utility shows Base Station Information but can't configure it and said:
The Base station has been reset and is not configured, make sure your computer is configured for a 192.42.249.X-compatible IP address so the base station can be reset to its default configuration. Can any one help with this? I want to set up the airport so I can provide wifi to an IPod but i cant get XP to connect properly it said i have limited or no connectivity.

Its working now but the windows computer still cant get the aiprort base station to start a dialup connection. I dont wnat to usr the ipod for this all the time. Any ideas how to get XP to force the Airport Base Station to open a dial up connection.

  • Can i connect an airport extreme (us version) with a new airport express (euro version) ?

Hi, I lived in the USA for a while and moved back to Europe.
I have an airport extreme (US purchased) which i would like to link with a new airport express (EURO purchased) in order to extent my network.
    Is this possible ?
I have multiple problems doing so, which leads me to believe the US and EURO product might not be compatible.
Thx for your kind assistance, G.

Connecting routers wirelessly to extend a wireless network is known as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Although AirPorts can extend other AirPorts in a WDS, they only work with a few non-AirPort ones...like some Linksys models.
Here are a few articles on the subject:

Another option, although maybe not as practical in your circumstance, is to connect the AirPort base directly using an Ethernet cable to the Linksys. Then setting up the AirPort as a bridge.
