Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • HT1212 My  fully charged iPhone screen is black and not responding. what can I do to get it to work again? I have never syncd on iTunes. I connected to my laptop and iTunes app displays error msg saying phone is locked and unlock phone to connect.

My fully charged iPhone has a black screen and is not responding but has Siri and sound.  I connected to laptop and iTunes gives error msg indicating phone is locked and I to enter passcode. but I can't enter the passcode because the screen is black. I have never syncd with iTunes. What can I do to get my  phone back?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

  • HT201412 My ipad screen remains black and show a persistent apple logo.

My ipad screen remains black and show a persistent apple logo. Sometimes it turn on and off automatically every 5minutes. I have already restored iOS software for 3 or 4 times. I have also seen with the apple genius supporter. The problem still remain the same. Does anybody have any suggestion beyond that? I dont know how many people are experiencing the same problems. Why dont apple solve this issue seriously? My rating to apple would become dramatically decreased to zero. I have decided not to buy apple product anymore.

  • Ipad 2 constantly clocking and not responding

Please advise, my ipad is constantly clocking and not responding.

Try reset iPad. If the reset doesn't work, it's time to contact Apple.
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down together until you see the Apple Logo.
Note: Data will not be affected.

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

    Hi, Sean5656.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes closing all applications in multitasking and power cycling the device can resolve the issue.  However, further troubleshooting may be needed.  Here are the best articles to help you troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks!  Actually, by trying another wifi site we have here at home, I was able to give it another try.  For us though, it seems we have an internet problem unrelated to the ipad.  We'll have to figure that out.

  • HT4061 My iPad 2 screen is freezing and not responding. I can't even get it to open up. What do I do?

My iPad 2 screen is freezing up on me and not responding to my prompt. I can't even slide it to open or shut off the power. What do I do?

Try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • How to fix my iPad screen when it is not responding?

My iPad screen just froze and it couldn't unlock etc, I've tried soft-reset, restoring and updating. But my iPad screen just couldn't respond to it, is there anything else I can do? My iPad mini is only less than a year Help!

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Screen went black, would not respond, fans revved up full.

    hey,
    My iMac just went wobbly.
The screen was black and the fans were going at full blast. I had to hold the power button down to get it to turn off. It seems fine now. But it did this earlier in the week too.
Now I know that no matter how good a computer is, it is still bound to crash once in a while. But I was just wondering if this particularly 'violent' crash is at all common among you guys or if I should worry about it...

Sounds like a classic case of kernel panic.IF you have installed any hacks or programs with kernel extensions you may try removing them one at a time to find the offender. If not you may try repairing permissions with Disk Utility and optionally booting from the install dvd, opening Disk Utility and running a disk repair on your startup volume as disk error are also a source of kernel panics.

Screen ges dark and non- responding can't get out of it frozen

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari via the taskbar and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
