My ipod died...I think
the other day while I was using it and it had full batteries it froze and starting clicking and whirring it did this for about an hour at which point it was burning hot. Then it turned off. Now if I try to turn it on the apple shows up and it clicks a little bit then cuts off. Sometimes a folder with an exclamation point shows up. Is there anything I can do or do I just have to get a new one?
Hiya
Have you tried the 'restore' function to get it back to its original settings?
For the record, I had exactly the same probs with mine, tried a restore which didn't work. It's currently abroad being fixed, I hope!
If you look around this forum there are plenty of people with the clicking and whiring issues, see what other people have also suggested. Good luck!

Hello there,
I have an old iPod nano which I think is from the second generation (model number A1199 if that helps) with software at the latest version it can accept, 1.1.3. I wish to make a playlist out of the songs currently on the iPod, but I can't see any easy way to do that from the iPod itself. The next logical thought is to do it through iTunes, but the iTunes that was originally synced to the iPod died several years ago now, so I can't access that to make a playlist through (it's a very old iPod). I do have iTunes currently on this computer, but that's synced with my iPhone and stores different songs which I don't want to be mixed with those from the old iPod (due to the mostly nostalgic nature of the iPod songs). Is there any way I can either create a new playlist from the iPod itself, or through iTunes without having to sync? Also note that most of the songs on the old iPod were uploaded to iTunes from CDs and so aren't connected with any iTunes Login.
Thanks for any help you can give. Also, I sorta need to create this playlist ASAP so any advice you could give would be much appreciated
~ImamadmadThe old iTunes library was lost with the old PC. However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

My iPod died today. I charged it all night last night and today I was listening to it. I turned it off and tried to turn it on when i got into my car but nothing. No buttons worked... tried resetting it etc... tried to charge it... it wont... It's almost a year old but I have applecare on it.
My question... if I take it to the local Applestore will they swap it? I don't really want to be without it and I know with my friends nano they just gave him a new one. I really wanted it for my trip home tomorrow. or will they let me like upgrade cheap/for nothing since its under applecare? If it's under warranty you have a few options: try all the usual tricks like doing a 'restore' (all these tips can be found on this forum), take it into an Apple store where they should exchange it, I don't think they'll let you upgrade or, send it away to be serviced.
If it's out of warranty, you either pay for it to be fixed or you buy a new one. -
I just found my old ipod touch (i think 1st generation) and would like to let my toddler use it instead of my phone. I am trying to download apps but it say I need to update to 4.3 but it won't let me update. I have the most recent itunes. any idea why? I saw a thread saying to purchase the newest software (that was posted a few years ago) I paid 4.95 for the software and it's still saying it can't be updated. Am I just SOL??
The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

I was given an older ipod nano, i think it's a 3rd gen 8gb... i have searched the iternet for help and have had no luck. when i connect the ipods to my computer i tells me the usd device is not recognized. i have tried to reset it and it still gives me the samething notice. i have even uninstalled my itunes and updated to the newest itunes available and still no luck. i can not find updats for drivers. i have windows vista.. can anyone help?
Installing the latest version of iTunes should provide the "drivers."
It was definitely working properly for the person who gave it to you? Is that person a Mac user?
I would try the following. Shut down (power off) your computer. Use this procedure to reset the iPod

(It's the part that says How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel.)
Disconnect ALL USB devices and peripherals (including hubs) from computer, except for standared mouse and keyboard. Start up computer that way. Run iTunes. Connect iPod to a USB port that is directly on the computer. -
I have a new computer. I have copied Itunes library from an external hard drive. Itunes now tells me I cannot sync with my Ipod as it thinks the 20gb on the computer are different to the 20gb on my Ipod touch! What have I done wrong? How can I fix it? Alan

Computer died - iPod died - can I get my music back?
Recently my hard drive died. I had not backed up all my purchased iTunes songs because I thought (with the proper 3rd party software) that the iPod would serve as a backup. Well, my iPod died around the same time my computer died.
iTunes knows what I've purchased; I logged into my girlfriend's iTunes and tried to purchase an album again, and it said I'd already purchased it (which I had on my dead computer before it died.) Since iTunes knows which songs I've bought, and since my computer and iPod died, will they let me redownload them without recharging me? They clearly have the song purchases on record. Any hope? The policy on lost songs is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you may be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download however they are not under any obligation to do so.

I was downloading $15 worth of iTunes songs from a gift card when my iPod died. Now, no credit & no songs on my iPod. Where did either my $$ go or my songs that I paid for disappear? How do I get one or the other? I have 2 of the same iPod's and logged onto both with the same as well as different apple ID's and passwords to each respective iPod and the completion of my downloaded songs has disappeared into thin air. Where did it go? How do I get the credit too re-download those songs to the correct iPod? Please help me!! [email protected]
What happens when you try to redownload them?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
On a computer go to iTunes>Store>View Account>Sign in and go to purchased history and see if you actually purchased them.
Try redeeming the card again

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

so if i had lost my ipod, and i had bought the applecare for my ipod, do you think i would be able to get a new ipod since i have the applecare on it? or to get a new one would i have to give thee device in then get a new one?
Applecare has nothing to do with a lost or stolen device.
You would have to buy a new ipod. -
