My iPod Nano is crazy!

Hi!
I have a 3 month old 2g nano. Quite often I will be listening to it happily, when I decide that the song I am listening to is not what I want. So I hit the menu button, and try to scroll to pick another song. The nano scrolls, but just keeps going and going and going, and acts very crazy (selecting wrong song, no play/pause control, flipping through songs by itself when in the songs's view {meaning the view you get when you select a song} and generally not responding). I have tried to reset it (hitting 'enter' and 'menu', or whatever the key combination is as I can't remember now). The iPod does its little thing where the screen blacks out and then shows the Apple symbol, like it should, then continues this strange behavior after it finishes awakening. I reset it three or four times when it gets in its crazy mode, and once the screen totally blacked out and then there was colored lettering in a menu format. It seemed to be a deep, dark and buried operating system menu that I had accidentally opened. When reset yet again, it returned to normal.
When I turn it off and leave it for a few days, it acts normal again. I have also tried getting all the songs and stuff off the iPod and totally reseting it, from iTunes.
Does my iPod need to be replaced? Or is this just an operating issue?

I would make sure your PC doesn't have any viruses on it. Then bring your iPod in to the apple store to have them check it out. May be just a simple fix or you got a bad iPod. Doesn't happen that often but with any piece of hardware it can happen.

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?
iPod nano 1Gb (1st Gen I think)   Windows Vista

I got my ipod in May for my birthday and its worked pretty fine up until now. I went on holiday for two weeks to France where I went running everyday with my ipod and it worked fine but on the journey home in the car it wouldnt work and froze. Now it wont charge and is unrecognised on my pc and says that there are no drivers installed for this Device when it before worked fine. I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen is stuck on the Apple Logo, won't go into disk mode and won't connect to computer.

My iPod Nano 5th Generation won't turn on; I've held down "Menu" and the center button which makes the Apple logo come up, then it just stays on that. I've followed steps I've seen on here trying to get it into disk mode by holding down the "Play/Pause" button and the center button immediately after the Apple Logo appears but it doesn't respond to that at all. I've charged it and upgraded my iTunes but nothing seems to do anything to it. When I plug it into my computer there is nothing to say it's plugged in on iTunes or My computer or anything. It's driving me crazy and I'm hoping there's a way I can fix it without it having to be sent off.
    Any advice would be cracking!
    Thanks,
    Tilda

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem and can't figure it out.

  • Windows not installing iPod nano 3G

When i plugged in my iPod nano 3G for the first time the "Found New Hardware Device' bubble came up and it recognized that it was an Apple iPod, but then it said that there was a problem with installing the new device and that it might not work properly. After this I cant see my ipod in My Computer or in iTunes. Under the hardware profile it shows an exclamation mark symbol next to the ipod. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but that doesn't work either. I just repeats the same process. I've tried updating the driver but it says it can't find an updated driver. The real strange thing is that I have an iPod Video 5G that has been working with this computer for 2 years now. So why wont the Nano?
So after i got fed up with this, I plugged my ipod Nano into my laptop and it worked flawlessly. But all of my music is on my desktop which is why i need it to connect. Any help?

This is the same problem I'm having & no other USB devices are hooked up to my laptop, can anybody HELP??????????
Before I install iTunes Vista recognizes my iPod, it shows up in My Computer and I can use it as a storage device. In Device Manager it shows up under disk drives as an iPod and under USB controllers as a mass storage device. After I install iTunes it loads new drivers, or it tries to. It installs a new iPod USB driver & then it tries to install iPod drivers and never finds them. It tells me the device drivers were not found & I can't use the device until they are loaded. Now the iPod won't even show up in My Computer. When I check Device Manager there is an entry for the iPod with an exclamation mark beside it & under USB controllers it is now listed as an iPod USB device. When I uninstall iTunes it still won't recognize the device properly but if I do a system restore, back to before I loaded iTunes, and then plug the iPod back in it goes back to recognizing it in My Computer as an iPod storage device and under Device Manager it checks out OK. I think the problem is with the new device drivers iTunes installs. When installed iTunes will start up no problem, it's just when I plug in the iPod it loads the problem drivers & I have to do a system restore to get my iPod back again. Please help, I've had to do a system restore 5 times now & it still won't work. I can either have an iPod loaded or iTunes load, just not both at the same time. I'm very familiar with computers & software but this is driving me crazy
BTW, my iPod is a new 3rd generation Nano

  • My iPod Nano doesn't work as it should...

I have just got my new iPod Nano. It's the 2gb model from the second generation. I was extremely happy, because it looks awesome and I thought that it would work same way.
The player is working perfect. Plays songs, really awesome.
But I have really BIG problems with iTunes. As I said I have got iPod today and everything is new and up-to-date - iTunes and I even somehow managed to update my iPod. Why somehow? I have extremely big problems with updating it. I think that it works okay now, but not at all. Everything is okay when I use an automatic system. I copy music I want to library, conect iPod then and everything copies perfect. The problems are starting when I try to manage iPod on my own - copy music etc. This simply doesn't work! When I try to change the system on non-automatic the error (-50) occurres and iPod cannot be updated. I even can't do this simple thing so there are no talks about deleting or copying music to iPod.
What can I do? That's simply driving me crazy :/
PS. Sorry for my English, but I'm from Poland. I don't know if the apple service exists here at all...

And I have one more question, when I connect my iPod,
iTunes turns on automatically and the iPod is seen,
but it's not seen in "My Computer". Is that ok?
Since you have the iPod set at auto sync the ipod would not show in "My Computer" (someone correct me if I am wrong). If you were able to successfully switch it to manual it would show as it would be in disk mode. So I would say that this is ok.
I have done a search for the error -50 you keep getting and can't find anything. At this point I would suggest contacting Apple support to see if they can give you some insight on this error. One thing though...have you tried uninstalling iTunes from your computer completely and then re-installing it to make sure it's not an issue with your current copy of iTunes? Also, have you tried to go through the 5 R's?
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If you have not gone through the 5 R's, please try that first and see if it helps. If not, then try un-installing and then re-installing iTunes. If that does not work, then it would probably be beneficial to call Apple Support.

  • IPod nano Tubes, in stock Tuesday.

Ive noticed all the craziness about the lack of nano Tubes.
Good news for you in the UK (or the rest of the world, but face a shipping cost).
The nano Tubes are expected in stock on October 4th from http://www.essentialipod.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1869&xSec=35>Essential iPod
Of course i will post a review if i get them next week, but if they are delayed any longer i will most likely get the zCover for iPod nano.

They dont appear to be Official Apple nano Tubes. The company looks to have used the same screen shown on nano pictures on their tubes.
Still, even though they are ''not real'' Apple nano Tubes, they look great and if they do the job then there is no need to compalin.
Emma, what did the box look like that they came in. If it looked to be an Apple branded box, they may be counterfit and not just a similar design.

  • [SOLVED] ipod nano 5G 'Failed to generate sqlite database' error

If you have been experiencing this, it is due to a missing file in the iPod_Control/Device folder of the ipod. Got the solution from this post here Ipod Nano 5G with linux
I'll just list the steps here
    1. Get the firewire serial id, look for a sixteen digit number in the output.
    sudo lsusb -v | grep -i Serial
    2. Add/Change the line 'FirewireGuid: ...' to 'FirewireGuid: 0x<firewire serial id obtained above>'
    3. Get a HashInfo file from here by entering the firewire serial id (without the 0x) in the box and the click generate. Move the HashInfo file to you iPod_Control/Device folder
The error should go away afterwards

Eventually managed to solve this by forcing the iPod into disk mode (using the instructions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363) which kept it mounted long enough for me to alter the sync preferences.
Got there in the end, but I still can't understand why iPods don't just stay mounted until you eject them like they used to. Seems crazy.

  • How durable is an ipod nano 2nd generation

    hello everyone..
ok so i have posted a question as too wether or not sand might cause harm to an ipod(solved.)
but now i wanna know.. how durable is an ipod nano?
now im not encouraging ppl to do crazy tests on their precious ipod nano but just please tell me what little 'accidents' u have done to ur ipods eg. dropped it whilst jogging, left it in ur pocket when u put your clothes in the wash, or dropped it in the toilet(ewww.) etc. and what the results were.
oh yea and how it compares to the first gen. nano in scratchability if u own both.
    thanks (in advance):)

Oh all of my ipods ive never prefered smelly leather either. I tried a silicone case adn didnt like how it felt or how it attracted dust easily. If you wnat to show off the color of your ipod then you might be interested in a case liek this
    http://www.xtrememac.com/cases/new_nano/microshield.php
another hot alternative that grew in popularity for the original ipod nano was an invisible shield casue of how tough it was though it was tedious to apply.

    hope these help.

  • Griffin iTalk Pro and 1st generation iPod Nano

Is there any way to make the Griffin iTalk Pro work with an iPod nano from the first generation.
Seems kind-of crazy that it only works for the New Nanos.
    Thanks,
    Shaun-Man

Does the battery charge properly?  If not, Apple has an iPod exchange program for products with defective batteries.

  • Problems with my new 5th generation ipod nano

I bought my ipod nano 8GB 5th generation about two months ago. I am having two problems. First, the internal speakers are giving me problems. I always plug the headphones in all the way, and they will work just fine until I barely touch the cord. Something as simple as moving my ipod or putting it in my sweatshirt pocket makes the song pause (even with hold ON) and when I push play again, the song is playing both in the headphones and the internal speakers. If I mess around with the cord again, it will automatically pause, then I push play and it works in the headphones only again (until the cord gets bumped again). I have also tried using different headphones (ipod and samsung) and the same thing happens. It is driving me crazy!! I want to be able to listen to my ipod and not worry about disturbing other people or constantly having to push play because it paused then having to mess with the cord to be able to listen to it.
My second problem is my battery charge. It was fully charged one night and I could only listen to it for two and a half hours before it died. Granted it was constantly pausing and I would have to push play and mess around with the cord, I think it should be lasting longer than that. Now I hardly ever use it because the battery charge won't last and the headphone cord is so sensitive. This is the second ipod I have ever bought and my second bad experience with them. So please if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it!
    Thank You

Yikes...thats umm not right it sounds either damaged or defective and the problem is I think you only have a short period to do a return.
Now youll have to lean on warranty. Perhaps purchase the ext applecare warranty from a secondary vendor to save cash and then use it?
Either way you need to have it fixed thats def' not right.
