  • Audio stop working in a Pavilion dv6 with vista enterprise 64

    Hi guys,
I´m having a very strange problem with my girlfriend´s laptop. One month ago, we bought a HP pavilion dv6-1117es with Windows Vista Home 32 bits installed. I changed the S.O. to a new Vista Enterprise 64 bits. Everything works perfectly. Last week while she was working with MS Word, the sound system stops working. Nothing changes and the laptop didn´t show any errors. I made all the tests I could imagined without success. Frustrated I decided to reinstall the S.O. but there is no sound.
    Steps done:
Review and reinstall drivers from HP. I also have uninstall all the items in the audio system and the laptop rediscover the hardware without errors.
I have tried any option both in the windows vista audio mixer and in the IDT application selecting any audio source possible.
I have updated the laptop bios into the latest version.
I have tried with several external speakers and I have the same result.
    Also updated MS UAA.
    Also restarted audio services
    Symptoms:
The problem is that everything looks ok. The mixer shows the green bar up and down when I play any mp3 song. It seems to work in all the devices including external speakers, double speakers, SPIF line out and HDMI out. There is no red crosses or yellow warnings anywhere.
    Please help me.
    Thanks-

HI Jaimese, yes I tried XP service pack 2 does not help.
I did a system reinstallation apparently that worked for all of 10 minutes,
then back to teh same thign.  It must be a software issue.
Theonly time when it sort of worked was when the HP guy told me to uninstall the IDT drivers, then windows vista reinstalled it again.
I did a total clean install , meaning I wped the HDD clean through system restore that did nothing.
I  don't know what to do. Well......... actually I do . If nobody takes responsability
    A) return HP comptuer to retailer.
    B) Take a trip to local Apple store. (yes they are expensive but at this point I should not have to do a clean install one week into ownership).

  • Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X - TouchPad stopped working, BIOS update does not help

I have a Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X laptop. Few days ago TouchPad stopped working. This is not a Fn + F9 issue.
In Device Manager it looks like hidden device and has (!) on it. Re-installing Synaptics drivers, updating them, removing the device in Safe Mode - nothing works. (TouchPad did not work in Safe Mode). One of the forums mentioned BIOS update. For some strange reason the latest BIOS for this specific laptop is from 2008 (ver. 1.5). Other L300 laptops have option to update BIOS to ver. 2.20 (2010) but not mine! I tried to load it (ver. 2.20)from Windows and from boot disk without success. I installed BIOS ver. 1.5. After reboot - keyboard stop working! And TouchPad ... still dead and still appears as hidden device. Using external mouse I restarted the laptop and get into the BIOS settings. In Advanced Settings disabled TouchPad completely. KEYBOARD START WORKING IN WINDOWS!!!
Any suggestions on how to make this TouchPad to work? Or how to get newer BIOS for this Laptop?
    Thank you in advance!

Sounds like it has died, you can purchase a new one from a parts supplier and pay someone to install it or if you are any good with such things you can try to do it yourself.  I suggest just sticking with the external mouse.

  • Touchpad stops working on X201 (and other models)

I have an X201 and noticed tha tthe toucpad stops working at seemingly random intervals.  After tracking down the culprit to the Synaptic Touchpad Enhancements process, I did a search and found other people having the issue in the Thinkpad W series forum.  Instead of reposting it here, you can find my reply with an easy workaround to get it working again over in this thread.

Somebody thinks the problem only happens with Firefox, which I happen to use as well, so the problem could be between Firefox and the Synaptics process.
Lenovo:  Please fix this.  Thank you.

    Hi All,
I've posted a temporary workaround regarding this issue, you may read it here.

  • Windows 8.1 Onboard Keyboard and Touchpad Stopped Working.

After upgrading to Win 8.1 my keyboard and touchpad stopped working suddenly.  They both worked fine for the entire Windows 8.0 release.  When I upgraded to 8.1, they both worked for about 3 months.  Then what started happening is the computer
would freeze during the startup process.
Now they both don't don't work.  But a USB powered mouse works.  So with a USB powered mouse and the on screen keyboard I have been troubleshooting.  I have removed the drivers from the device manager, reinstalled the drivers, searched for
    driver updates etc.  Nothing works.
Can someone please point me in the right direction.  PC is kind of useless at the moment.

  • My laptop suddenly stopped working

my laptop suddenly stopped working  and when i restart it the power button lights up but the screen doesn't on. and also the capslock is on and another light ons on the keybord with a symbol of all four arrow keys(its not a key) i really am having trouble with it. if anybody can help me please..

Unplug the AC adaptor, remove the battery, press and hold the power on button for a minimum of 30 seconds, then replace the battery and see if it powers up.  If not, repeat the above but this time only plug the AC adaptor in and see if it works.  If that doesn't help, repeat the above and this replace the battery and plug the AC back in.  If that doesn't take care of it you should remove the memory sticks reseat them, them try again.  If you have two sticks try with only one at a time to see if that helps.  If not, try removing the hard drive and boot to a Linux Live CD or some self booting diagnostic cd to see if the hard drive is the problem.  If none of the above helps you'll need to take it to an authorized service center if it's still under warranty, or to any repair shop if it isn't.

  • Laptop touchpad not working.

Well yesterday my touchpad stopped working. I was trying to make it so I could tap on it to make it click, but I didn't get that to work. I tried setting stuff back to how it was before, but  I didn't succeed. I also tried following the synaptics wiki, but it still doesn't seem to work.
Also another problem is, sometimes when I'm justing using Arch, and I press enter the screen gets all these lines through it and freezes up. Its hard to explain, and if it happens again I'll take a picture and upload it.

Do you have xf86-input-synaptics installed? Is your xorg.conf configured for synaptics, OR does HAL have the appropriate FDI?
If you're using hot-plugging, copy the appropriate FDI to the location specified in the wiki.
If you're not, specify everything you want in the xorg.conf
But if you're not getting response at ALL, then either the touchpad is not working (very unlikely) or you do not have xf86-input-synaptics

    New Years Greetings!
If this is Synaptics TouchPad, try this:
Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings
On that page, look to see if you have "Disable internal device..." checked.
Regardless, you can try the "Reset Devices" button to try and kick it free.

  • HP pavilion dv6 touchpad stopped working (read this if you have dropped your computer)!

Hello, this is not a question it is advice for people having touchpad issues with their dv6 (I've noticed a quite a few posts). My touchpad suddenly completely stopped working one day (didn't respond to anything that I did).
Most of the forums I've been to (actually, all of them... and they were many) ask you to try reinstalling the driver. However, if you did not recently uprage your OS or make any such major changes this is not likely to be the issue.
Try going to device manager. If your touchpad is not showing up under the mouse and pointer devices section (it should say Synaptics something or other) then it means that either something is broken OR your touchpad came unseeded.
For me, it was the second option (I drop my laptop... occasionally). The cable for the touchpad is held in place by a little plastic lever-like clamp. It can easily become loose, so try this out before taking your computer into a repair shop (and loosing it for weeks, not to mention the price if you're not under warranty!)
    Three easy steps:
    1) take the removable bottom cover off (that little plastic bit in the center where your hard drive is). For my model (6145dx), it just snaps off (with a flathead screw driver or other tool for leverage). You might have to unsrew a few things, but it should be easy.
    2) Take out the hard drive (held in place by 4 screws in most cases). You do not need to disconnect the cables leading to the hard drive! Just pull it out and lay it off to the side.
    3) Toward the very front of your computer (right under where your hard drive was, and where the touchpad is on the top cover) you will see the ribbon cables coming from your keyboard, touchpad, etc. Give them a little wiggle (just pull the plastic tabs that stick up. If one of them moves, then you need to re-clamp it! Push the cable all the way in and push down the lever.
Super easy! Should solve all your problems!

So my touchpad wasn't working and I have an HP dv6-6135dx. It started being messed up shortly after I took my PC apart to upgrade the screen. Sometimes it worked perfectly, sometimes it was completely unresponsive, sometimes the ring around the touchpad was lit, other times it wasn't etc.... It got worse and worse to the point where the touch pad almost never worked.
I followed this guide, and it didn't fix the problem; however, this got me thinking, and I pulled the keyboard out and reseated the touchpad cable where it connects right under there. BAM works perfectly. THANK YOU so much for this post, for some reason I didn't think to reseat the cable... I must have not plugged it back in completely when I took my laptop apart. You can find the service manual for the dv6t here Its in the first post

  • My touchpad stopped working on my laptop

I don't know why. Usually it will turn on and off if I hit it in the corner a certain number of times (like 3-4 I think) but all I did was try wake my computer up and the touchpad wasn't doing anything. I hit a few random keys and got the password screen, but I still couldn't get my touchpad to work. I had to plug in a mouse. I hit the area that turns it on and off, but nothing is happening. I don't know if there is a key that turns it on and off that I hit but I don't see one. I went into the control panel and it said that the touchpad was there and registering, but it still wasn't working. On my old laptop it would say "enabled" or "disabled" and I could change between the two, but I don't see anything like that. Using my mouse it getting really annoying. How do I fix this?
My laptop has windows 8.  I don't know what model, but I just got it in March.

  • InDesign stopped working on HP Pavilion Windows 8 laptop?

I've tried the ctrl + alt + shift as soon as indd is loading, and nothing. I have been getting the same error message.....
Windows has encountered an error and needs to close the application.
It won't even get past the loading screen of indd.
I have read about deleting the saved info for indd and the preferences, but nothing I have read is for windows 8..it's all for windows 7 or vista.
    Any ideas?

Nothing has moved in Win 8.
What's the last message you see in the splash screen? What happened BEFORE ID stopped working? A crash? Something else? Do you have a crash report in Event Viewer?
Did you get a confirmation dialog to replace the prefs when you tried?

  • Z60m: Touchpad stopped working.

    Hello all,
just recently the touchpad on my Z60m (2529-FZU) stopped working.
It is turned on under BIOS but under Windows (with drivers and utility installed) it tells me the software needs to be installed.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but with the same results.
If I have both the trackpoint and touchpad enabled under the BIOS, none of them work, if I turn off the touchpad and leave the trackpoint on, the trackpoint works fine, if I turn off the trackpoint and turn on the touchpad the touchpad still doesn't work.
I have the latest BIOS update installed also.
I even tried reinstalling Windows hoping it would help, but it didn't.
Does it sound like I need to replace the touchpad/palmrest part or does it sound more serious?
They're both well connected to the motherboard, not loose at all.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
