My wireless connection keeps failing.

My wireless connection keeps failing.  I turn off the wireless and it resets and works however it is temporary.  Any suggestions.  I bought my Airport Extreme 11/2012

Hey there Chrismcknz,
It sounds like your Wi-Fi connection from your Airport is dropping and when power cycled works for a very short period of time before stopping again. I would next try a hard reset, and test the issue. Then if needed reset it to factory default and test again. The following article explains what the resets do, and how to do them:
Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Hard reset: Resets the base station back to an unconfigured state, but retains the last saved configuration and any profiles so you can restore your base station from previous settings.
Factory default reset: The same as a hard reset but also removes any saved configurations or profiles.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Hp office jet 6700 (Mac)-wireless connection keeps failing...

Hi-I am hoping that someone has a solution for this. We have an HP Officejet 6700 that has worked flawlessly till last week. The wireless signal keeps dropping. I think that is the issue because if I go into Setup on the printer itself and go to Network and start all over with finding my router, it works fine. For one print job. Then if I have something something else to print I have to go through that whole setup routine again.
If I just go to Print it says locating printer and then it says that the printer is not connected. What is going on?? Very frustrated. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (I downloaded the driver from the HP website). That didn't fix it. I saw that there was a firmware update but couldn't install it even though I plugged my laptop into the printer with a USB cord.
Something is going on that I don't have a clue in how to fix it. I really appreciate any help. Thank you, Judy

  • Why does my wireless connection keep failing?

  • Wireless connection keeps disconnecting - Satellite C650 16U

    Hi
My wireless connection keeps disconnecting frequently and I have to manually reconnect it. I don't think it is a router issue as this doesn't happen with other laptop that is used in my house. Any ideas why this is?
    Thanks

    Hi mate
I recommend checking the power saving settings in Win 7 power management.
There you can change (disable) the power saving for WLan card.
    This helped in my case.
    Please also check this thread:

As I said; power management setting is the key you should also update the WLan driver!

  • Wireless connection keeps disappearing on ibook

I have an iBook G4, along with a PC laptop. Recently I've had to reconfigure the iBook network configurations almost every time after the computer has gone to sleep. It's not difficult to do, but it is annoying. The only thing that I can think is that I recently upgraded to Leopard (10.5.8). Does anyone know whether there is a glitch with Leopard that's causing me to lose my network connection?

I actually have the same problem that Hunter has. It is extremely frusterating to see the wireless connection work so well one minute then the next it does't work. I have the same model and version Router that he has. My laptop works perfectly on other wireless networks (at school, friends houses, etc.) but not here in my own house. When my friends bring their laptops over here, they don't seem to have a problem holding onto a connection with my network. Their laptops work perfectly but not mine. I recently ran a diagnostics scan on my network and this is what I got... 00000012] Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (FAILED),DefaultIPGateway = 192.168.1.1(Same Subnet) (FAILED) Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

If anyone knows what I can do to fix this issue I would love to know. I've heard things about downloading firmware, I tried that but couldn't get it to work because it was in a BIN file and im not sure what program to use to extract that file.....Thanks

  • BROADBAND CONNECTION KEEPS FAILING ! Over Six mont...

    Hi all
I have broadband option 1, I never exceed my download limit. Sometimes it works fine with connection speeds between 4 and 8mb/s and I am happy with that. I use Hub 3 now on a wired ethernet connection with Wireless disabled most of the time unless I am on the laptop.
However about once every 2-3 weeks, and then every day for 7-10 days my connection goes down completely - I lose broadband altogether for between 1 and 4 hours a day. It sort of sporadically comes back up during that time but its at dial up speeds and I cant even load a full page of Google, so basically I am without a connection. Its usually in the afternoon, starting about 3-4pm or in the evening staring about 8-9pm. It has never once happened in the morning ! Ever !!!
I have tried emailing and ringing BT help desk well over 50 times in the last 6 months. I have been fobbed off with every nonsense excuse under the sun from "you are working offline" to "sometimes web pages are too busy to be loaded". I have changed my hardware to the latest Hub 3, changed all my microfilters & hub wiring. I have uninstalled my Antivirus & Firewall, Reinstalled it (Norton 2011), run full virus scans daily, done Windows updates, even tried THREE completely different PCS.
The problem persists with the same symptoms on each PC.
I think its safe to say that this isnt a problem at my end. Its sporadic. Sometimes my PC is on when it happens and I just lose the connection. Sometimes its off and when I turn it on the connections not there.
Obviously I have tried rebooting, resetting the modem, going through the whole BT online Help process but none of this brings the connection back, basically I just have to wait.
One thing I have noticed is that when this is happening my connection speed changes (initially 4-5 then 5-6 etc and currently 8-9). I have put this forward to BT as an issue - IE that they are changing my line speed and thats why my connection becomes unstable but their senior engineers deny this completely (I have the email).
    So I am stuck guys.
The helpdesk is manned by very polite individuals who are friendly and try to be helpful but sadly all they do is read from Crib Sheets and really cant help at all.
On Friday they ran a line test while my broadband was down and found a fault, I was supposed to get a call back on Saturday but of course being BT that never happened so I am still waiting.
Any thoughts - I am pretty shocked BT have allowed this problem to persist for 6 months - I expected better !

Hi thanks for that.   I am connected to the master socket as far as I know its a plain socket with no lines across and the plug is dead center. There is a second socket in the kitchen with a phone there is simply no way I can connect a PC to that socket and leave it there for several days to try it.
I cannot run the Speed Test - it just times out although I have run it in the past. When my connection is failing I cannot even OPEN the speedtest page let alone run it. Given that this is an intermittent fault isnt it just pointless running these things when its all working  ?
When I run the quiet line test on the phone I hear a constant faint Hiss, its a corded phone so I should hear nothing - so that might be a problem

  • WRE54G version 3 uses all available DHCP connections causing all wireless connectivity to fail

I couldn't find this problem via search so i've started a new thread.  Here is my problem.
I have configured my WRE54G and everything seems to be working great, a Wireless connection that was LOW is not Excellent.
    a. I can connect to my router: 192.168.0.1 (WRT54GC firmware 1.05.7)
    b. I can connect to my range expander: 192.168.0.11 (I changed the IP, firmware 3.01.01)
    c. The Range Expander has the same SSID as my router and has the same WEP key too.
It seems that the range expander will eventually use all of the DHCP connections that I have configured for my router to allow.
I have the DHCP lease set to 30 minutes but when i look in the DHCP client list I see clients with 2 day leases, these are all the MAC Address of the Range Expander. Currently 5 of 7 connections are the Range Expander.  Eventually it will consume all connection and I won't be able to connect.
On my wireless router I have MAC address filtering set up and only 4 MAC addresses are added to the "allow" list.
Message Edited by 221385 on 12-21-2009 07:44 PM

DHCP lease time on the router is 30 minutes.
It appears that the clients, specifically the only wireless laptop on the network, drops the connection and when it reconnects it gets a new lease and IP address.  This happens many times until all IPs are in use.  I don't know why the lap top drops the connection when the signal strength is excellent.
I have seen the MAC address of the Client in some cases but the majority are the WRE.
I've linked to some pictures of the router set up, the DHCP client list, and the basic WRE setup.  There are only 3 wireless devices in my home, 1 laptop, 2 iPhones.  I guess a neighbour could be trying to connect but I do have MAC address filtering turned on so only included MAC Addresses can connect.
I guess I could always update the firmware but I only want to do that if it will fix this issue.  I tried the live chat today but I didn't have access to my home network so there wasn't much that we could do.

  • Internet slow and wireless connection keeps dropping

So, my iMac crashed and I had to reinstall. That really sucked.
Pre-crash I was amazed by the speed and reliability of my internet connection. We're talking girlish glee.
Post-crash/reinstall, my internet is a plodding monster that takes forever to load simple websites at times and drops the connection a couple of times a week.
Can anyone help? I'm assuming it's a software issue since my wireless connection was fast and reliable before reinstalling.

    Hi,
If you are still having problems.......
I'm assuming it's a software issue since my wireless connection was fast and reliable before reinstalling.
    Try changing the Airport channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the left and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, on your iMac, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.

  • Wireless Connection Keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

I recently got a new router to replace my old one (which had the same issue) and it frequently disconnects randomly for a couple seconds then reconnects again. This seems to only happen to anyone using wireless connections and not when its connected with an Ethernet cable. I've even changed the router channel and the problem still persists and its not near anything the could disrupt the signal so I don't understand.

With the same issue on 2 routers, it's probably not a defective router.  But it could be the settings.  As Matt suggested check your security settings and the wireless mode.  If all of your devices are "n" use performance mode.  Otherwise use compatibility mode.
Inssider (available for free at the following link) will show you other devices and enable you to pick the best channel.
    http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
Is the problem is on multiple devices or just one?  If it's only one the issue could be the wireless card.
Since it is a wireless problem think about distance and obstruction.  They will reduce signal strength and could cause intermittent problems.  Try testing close to the router and see if the same problem occurs.  Router positioning can improve signal quality.  Don't overlook little things.  Example: many users stand the router up.  I found that I get better reception with it laying on it's side.  And one of my laptops has a significant change in performance by rotating it 90degrees.  The kind of problem you are having may need some trial and error research to solve.

  • The wireless connection keeps going away and I need to power off and on the time capsule to get the wifi network up

Time Capsule wifi access very poor. it keeps disconnecting and i need to power on and off thr router to get the wifi connection back again. When it works its so slow, it works only in the roms nearby and not even upstairs in my home!

I cannot work from the serial number.. I need the model number. A1xxx in the rubber .. in the rubber.. for Gen1-3.. 2010 is probably Gen3 but can be early Gen4.
    Follow up questions:
How do i take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or 7.5.2
wireless names are Room of requirement and Leaky Cauldron - Is that too long a name?
How do I set fixed wireless channels?
Can relocate. Its in the main level of the house to give me access upstairs in the bedrooms and down in the basement,
Change firmware.. hold down option whilst clicking version.
Wireless names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. yes.. your names are wrong.. from my point of view.. more they do not obey the rules.. no spaces.
Check C9 here why this is important.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Fix wireless channels.. option page in wireless are of utility.. you need to spend more time in the utility so you know what is there.
Location is everything.. sometimes you simply need more than one device.. wireless has limited range. Use ethernet or EOP - homeplug adapters to place another AP in area closer to your position.

  • Wireless Connection keeps fluxuating

I have had this problem 7 times straight now, and I'm getting extremely frustrated with it. I dropped my macbook on my desk rather roughly and since then, my airport connection has been fluxuating horribly.
The wireless symbol will go on and off, on and off, on and off, 4 or 5 times before completely shutting off and I have to re-start to get it to work again.
I'm assuming from the behavior it's exhibiting that it means I have to re-adjust the airport card, and that it slipped out somehow. I thought I would post here first for other ideas about the situation, before taking it to the apple store for repairs.
Does anyone know what else it could be, or what I could do to fix the situation?

Try launching System Profiler when the AirPort card is exhibiting the issue and keep hitting refresh. See if it ever isn't detected in the profiler, might have to try it a couple of times. But there you can see on the system if there's an issue with the card. I don't know, however, if it'll assist with determining a loose connector on the card.
The antenna appears to be held in place fairly good within the MB, but I'm sure enough "shock" motion can jar random things. If System Profiler doesn't do the trick, you may wish to just get it looked at over at the store.

  • Wireless connection keeps stopping

Well I have done everything possible to get Vista Service Pack 2 installed......had to go back to original clean install and do all of my updates prior to installing my other software.
NOW THE WIRELESS WON'T STAY CONNECTED!  It keeps dropping then reconnecting like it is refreshing the IP address.  I have gone into the device settings and disabled the "turn off" feature, what next?????
I saw one post about downloading an update but no luck there either.....................INTEL WIRELESS WIFI LINK 4965AG............
Any suggestions............I keep getting disconnected from my FTP connections while editing files and using dreamweaver........frustrating as all heck...........I have to keep trying to resync my whole site after each incident because I am uncertain what went through................midway through the whole site analysis the wireless drops again............
I have been working for over 2 months on trying to get SP2 installed and I had to go through a complete reformat now this **bleep** headache...............................
Has anyone resolved the wireless issues......................
    Thanks

I had the same problem under Vista Service Pack 1.  I spent weeks upgrading to Service Pack 2 as it would not install correctly unless I reverted back to a "clean" factory install using ThinkVantage.
Needless to say I lost weeks of productivity with lost connections and reinstalling additional software.  I still seem to drop connection with the wireless.  The wireless will turn off by itself.  I have changed the properties for power management on device settings so Windows will not turn it off.  At times I need a complete reboot in order to turn on the device.  When it goes out it will not even show at times on ThinkVantage.  When it does show on ThinkVantage it will not turn on and off using ThinkVantage.
I wonder if anyone has changed wireless cards and if so how that may have solved problems.  I am almost at the point where I have lost so much productivity and potential income from constantly fixing this problem that I may buy another laptop........probably not a Lenovo.
I still believe that there is a conflict between Windows Vista and ThinkVantage.  I have tried disabling startup on Windows Wireless Lan in hopes that I could use just the ThinkVantage............no luck there!
I figure there should be some good deals on laptops with students going back to college this time of year.  I can not keep losing valuable productivity, potential customer aquisitions and loss of corporate work because of this ongoing problem.
Seeing all of the various postings relative to this problem one would think that Lenovo would have an update patch to correct this problem.  When you buy a product from the best reputable company you would believe that you get the best support, technical assistance and continuous improvement.
IF ANYONE HAS CHANGED WIRELESS CARDS FROM THE INTEL 4965AG TO ANOTHER LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MADE OUT.............
    Thanks

  • Canon Pixma Wireless connections "server fail"

I have a Canon Pixma 5220 printer which has worked flawlessly (wirelessly) for quite some time. A few weeks ago, we changed our router from a password protected setup to non-password protected (don't know the technical terms for this) as a couple of our smart phones would not connect with the router in order to use the wifi. (there might have been a better solution, but being non-techies, we didn't know what it was). Since doing that, I have not been able to get our Pixma printer to connect wirelessly. I deleted the printer entirely and went through the install procedure with the CD, but it will only show that a job is "pending" (which I guess means it's connecting wirelessly to some extent) and that the printer is "offline". Also, when I look at the Network Diagnostics, it shows everything working, but the server shows "fail".  I'm sure there are some tweaks that I need to do, but I'm at the end of of my knowledge base.  :-\   Also, in the meantime, I had my Macbook Pro repaired which means it was wiped clean, so that may have changed something as well. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

  • LaserJet m1217nfw mfp - wireless printing keep failing / dropping off on Mac OS 10.7.5

I have installed my LaserJet m1217nfw mfp at least 4 times in the past month using my Mac that's running on OS 10.7.5. The first time was with the CD that came with the printer, and the last 3 times was with the latest software downloaded from HP.
Each time, the wireless printing is set up and works without problem (using these official HP instructions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48mLZoRjJm0). But a few days later, when I try to do the wireless printing again from the same Mac, it can't find the printer on the network. And nothing about the network or router has changed.
It's quite frustrating. I doubt installing it for the 5th time is going to solve the problem once and for all.
    Any ideas much appreciated!
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello SC_W,
The IP address can be fixed by going to Setup > Network Config > TCP/IP Config from the printer front panel.
Then select Manual and set the IP as manual.. I would using an higher value to avoid IP conflicts (e.g. if the current IP is 10.0.0.1, change only the last part to 10.0.0.20 so the address will remain and won't be used by other devices when the printer is powered off.)
Although I personally doubt it will help assigning a fixed IP as Mac OS X uses Bonjour hostname to communicate with the printer (which is fixed) and not athe IP address as Windows uses.
Additionally, as Apple products uses Bonjour, I could see some discussions on this matter for the Home Hub 3.0.
    Below is an example:
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/HomeHub-3-Apple-Bonjour-not-working-for-AirPlay-AirPrin...
If setting a fixed IP does not help, try the folowing to isolate the problem and ensure if Multicast packets transfer may cause the issue:
From your Mac go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, click the Plus sign and then click the IP tab.
Select the HP Jetdirect Socket protocol and type the IP as the address value.
Add the printer, you will see an additional print queue listed as the IP address.
Keep using this queue for printing and let me know if you may se any difference for this print queue..

  • Branch Office DC Demand Dial VPN connection keeps failing

    here is me issue
Our Branch Office DC is connected to Main Office DC with a Demand Dial Connection in RRAS Everything is connected fine for a little bit then its like the connection just gives out, it stays connected but i cannot ping the branch office DC with the local
IP from the Main Office or access any network shares on it. When this happens i have to disconnect the server at the remote office and wait for it to reconnect im currently baffled as there are no Error LOGS to help me along and there doesnt seem to be anything
that would be causing the issue for now until i get some answers as to what is going on i opened a command prompt on the DC here at the main office and i typed "ping 10.141.70.25 -t100" to monitor the connection more or less and when i see it timeout
i reconnect it, i also have the networking tab open in task manager to monitor the LAN and RAS (Dial-In) Interface  the LAN doesnt seem too active but the RAS Interface does its got a constant network utilization of 0.28% and the Demand Dial interface
on the remote office DC has a Utilization of 0.38% (Server Just disconnected as i was typing this and the utilization on the VPN connections on both servers went through the roof) heres the troubleshooting i have tried so far
    1. Rebooted both office DC`s at the same time
    2. Rebooted the branch office DC alone (this helped a little because the connection is staying active longer without fail)
    3. looked through all RRAS configuration on both servers to see if theres any mistakes by any other administrators (None Were Found)
    4. Used wireshark to see if there was anything interfering or that would cause this to happen (Nothing found)
    5. manually connected to the server in multiple ways like accessing network shares and remote management via MMC and manually making the servers replicate to see if any of that was causing issues and it wasnt
My thoughts: im starting to think it may be a switch or something causing the connection issue at the branch office because the main office has all new routers and switches and just recently got a 100.00MBPS connection but nothing was affected for a good
month so im not thinking it is the new connection or anything at the main office if theres something im overlooking here please let me know if some ipconfig /all results are needed i can provide them
