N97 Email

I have recently bought the Nokia N97 and have a couple of issues about the email.  I have a work email account that I successfully setup on the phone but when I read and email on the phone, it doesn't appear in my inbox on my PC.  The same happens when I read an email on my PC, the email does not get sent to the phone.
The other issue I have, is that my emails keep disappearing daily.  I can close the "today" folder but there is nothing else there.  I want to be able to see "yesterday" and "last week" etc.
Can someone help?  I've gone through all of the settings, made hours of phone calls to my SP, and spent hours searching online.
Thanks!

I found out what was blocking me.  When it asked for my server name, I was using the paste command to enter part of the server name (which included my email address).
There is a bug that does not actually enter the text when you paste in this field, although it is visible.  You must enter the server address manually, not using the paste command for any portion of the address.  Now I can connect directly.

  • N97 Email connection issue

    I have N97 with firmware version 11.0.021.209.04.
I am basically pleased with the phone apart from the slide unlock not working maybe 1 in 30 times (just open the qwerty pad to unlock in this case) not a big issue to me but hope it resolved in the firmware release.
However I have the following issue which is bugging me:-
I have set up my network priority list with my WLAN as 1, and the vodafone connection as 2.
I have my email connection setting set to default connection.
When I'm at home I have no problem, I can access my email through my WLAN.
However when I leave the house and try to to access my email I get a message saying WLAN is not available unable to access email. Obviously it is not available and I would expect the phone to automaticall switch to priority 2 but it doesn't.
I have to manually go into email connection settings and select vodafone.
My internet connection goes through the priority list no problem.
Does anyone know if I've not set something up correctly or if it is a bug.
    Cheers

i have read the posts in this thread. so far, settings will be one of the reasons why you can't access your network providers' packet data.
    >please understand that setting up email needs packet data/ GPRS to finish setting it up and then you can use WLAN to retrieve email whenever you want.
    try this setting:
    -->menu>messaging>options>settings>email>select mailbox (yahoo/hotmail,etc)
         >options>connection settings>access point in use> select network providers' packet data
--> if  the same issue persist, try deleting your WLAN connection and add it again
--> or, you can try to do a soft reset which will make your phone return it's factory settings only
not deleting file at all, just key-in *#7780#
--> next, do a hard reset. this time your files will be deleted so it is very much advisable to back
up your files in OVI suite first or in your memory card before hard reset, just key in *#7370#
--> least likely, if your phone is a new one or you just bought it, it is unneccesary for you to do
software update unless it is indicated to your product key that you may do so and if there
is a new software for your phone. (check in nokia.com if you may do software update by
         by entering your product key)
--> if all else fails, bring your phone to Nokia Care Center/ Service Center accredited by Nokia

  • Please help! Nokia N97 Email and Message Settings ...

I got the Nokia N97 in July on Contract with 02, and it appears its missing quite a few settings but most important are the email settings in the Retreival section.
The only settings its shows me are "Headers Only" i cant seem to retreive anymore than that. I have been looking online and it appears that others who have this phone have the complete settings in Retreival but I dont.
I desperately need to get the full settings is someone able to help me with how i go about resolving this?
    Many thanks in advance

yes for native email client off the phone the headers only option is normal. you download a full message upon selection of a particular header. i dont recall it behaving differently at least on my n97. nokia messaging the stand alone app that you can download behaves different and its actually a pretty good app as long as you don't have to pay for it. in some countries you have to pay for it and it has a major downfall, it only stores data on the c memory/phone memory and that is not really an option for me.

  • N97 email converted to multimedia

I am trying to write an email.
I press the yellow envelope (like to txt), type my message and press send, to someone who has an email address in my address book. I select the email address (rather than mobile number) and it states "due to recepitent details converting to a multimedia message". Why is it doing this and how can I stop it ?
It is sending an email to an email address and going through the modile network (and being charged) rather than my home router.
    My emails come in fine.
I have tried this with 2 contacts and it's the same.
    Thanks
p.s in at least one case the receipent doesn't know who it is from without cross checking things. (I guess because it comes from an email address)
    N97 Firmware Version 20

Hi, I am assuming that you have your contacts e-mail address as one of the details attached to the contact you are E-mailing ? If I select a contact on my phone the options I get  are from top to bottom Voice call, message, E-mail and Video call. The choice I get from E-mail is via e-mail or Hotmail. I simply select via e-mail, type the email (cc it to someone else if required and then press send. Alternatively I go into my e-mail account Hotmail (or yahoo or google mail) and select option create message, select contact or type in e-mail address if its not in my phone and send. Never had a problem , but you need email to be set up on phone  for it to work, and the contact needs to have there email address in details.attached to there name.To do this ,select a contact , open, select options then edit, scroll to email, type in email address and save.
    hope this helps.
    Good Luck

  • N97 email widget disappears from homescreen

Hi folks, did a search on the forum but couldn't seem to find anyone with the same problem.
I've setup email on my N97 (Mail for Exchange) and had the email widget happily showing my latest emails.
A few hours later, the email widget was completely blank and unresponsive, while all the other widgets remained unaffected.
Removing and adding didn't fix the problem, nor did deleting my mailbox and setting it up again either.
I can still access my emails, they simply don't show up in the email widget as they should.
    Help anyone?

email widget suddenly demanded password - never did before in eight months. None worked. Deleted Nokia Email and reinstalled. No good. Contacted Nokia who provided a password for Nokia Messaging. Pretty sure I never had one before. Still could not reconnect to emails. Now I have registered one email account under 'Messaging' (never did before) and I get that account where the widget used to be. But the display and settings are completely different to what I had before. No obvious way  to set synchronisation settings for example.
Is this some change brought in by Nokia or what?
Getting a bit fed up with struggling to make this phone work - one thing after another.

  • N97 email account setup issues

I just got a new n97 with virgin mobile. got the latest virmware and nokia email software installed. when setting up my first email address, it kept giving me "invalid e-mail address" error. any help?

Hi, not all email services are compatible, however most are and I haven't had a problem with Virgin mail, hotmail or Ovi mail. I  just use the standard email setup and don't bother with mail for exchange or nokia messaging, personally I deleted them ( partly to save space on C and partly because standard setup works fine for me)
If you remove any mailboxes from optons-settings in messaging, then go to E-Mail, should get option 'no mailbox defined' define now. Just choose E-mail-Use my e-mail address and then carefully type in address and then password and it should work fine, if not, google ' how to set up XXXX.com on N97 !
    Hope this helps

  • N97 email outgoing issue

    Hi Guys,
I've setup my gmail account on the device using the wizard and receipt of email seem to be working fine.
But when I try to send out an email from the device only thing it does is queining the email in the outbox (of course after connecting to the mail box). It doesn't seem to be sending out the email.
Can anybody let me know what I should do to be able to send out an email?
    email account: gmail
email client on the device: Default N97 builting email client
outgoing email port:587 (I've change this from the default 465 to 587 as google advice to do so. Keeping this to 465 never sends the email).
I'm pretty sure there are guys out there who've got these things working smoothly. Any support from such a guy is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I had the same problem, tryed to follow instructions above - did not work for me. Finally I deleted the account setting and follow the wizard. Please note, there are two differnet wizards, the one that is in "welcome application" did not work for me, the other one - that is under welcome screen - above "options" worked fine.
    Learning experince -
    1. do not go with e-mail settings
    2. delete the email account you tryed to establish
3.do not go with "welcome" application"
    4. go with the email setup that is on your main telephone screen (the screen you see to setup multiple email options - ovi, yahoo, etc)
Hope, it helps in you case

  • N97 Email Invalid Server Message

I've just updated my N97 to v 21.2.045 dated 14-1-10.  Upon restoring the backup, after the firmware update, I had lost my email mailboxes.  Upon trying to set them up, the system is no longer accepting my email server address claiming that it is "invalid".  This is a proven inbox server, used for years, and currently on all of my pc's and mac.   I know that the software is trying to direct me to a NOKIA 3rd party server but the TERMS that must be accepted claim that  FEES MAY APPLY from NOKIA (not just my internet/phone provider).  I wish to connect directly to my server, as with the previous firmware.  What must I do?  Anyone else run into this?

I found out what was blocking me.  When it asked for my server name, I was using the paste command to enter part of the server name (which included my email address).
There is a bug that does not actually enter the text when you paste in this field, although it is visible.  You must enter the server address manually, not using the paste command for any portion of the address.  Now I can connect directly.

  • N97- email setup

everytime is switch on my n97, it always goes to the email set up wizard on start up. this happens regardless of whether i have an email account set up on the phone or not.
any ideas how to stop it doing this?

    Yes, it can be fixed.
Personally, I find this whole email and messaging setup very confusing.  I wish Nokia will just consolidate everything in one go, rather than doing it bit by bit and over such a long period of time.
Anyway, I'd the same problem before, and I'd the Nokia Messaging item (under 'Messaging'), plus the Email app (with the pink '@' as the icon).
I set up a mailbox for the Email app and that prompt went away.

  • N97 email icon wont budge

i'm having no real troubles with my n97 which i got first thing this morning. Been playing with it pretty much constant, no real freezes and not had to turn it off or take out the battery at all, however there is one thing that is bugging the hell outta me.
I set up the email for my hotmail account (had the same on my n96 for the past wee while) and when all emails are read, the icon telling me i still have an email is still there on the screen, i click it, and expand where it says 'new e-mail' and still it wont budge?
anyone else have this probem, or indeed a solution?

Finally found the solution to this. (Well for Gmail atleast.)
The N97 defines your account settings automatically from the information you give it. However it sets certian parts of the incoming and outgoing connection settings incorrectly.(such as outgoing security and port number) Adjust your N97's settings to these to solve the issue:
Select 'Connection settings' > 'Incoming e-mail.'
Enter your address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') and password.
Select 'SSL/TLS' for your security (ports) and define your port as '993.'
    Select 'Back.'
    Select 'Outgoing e-mail.'
Enter your email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') and password.
Select 'StartTLS' for your security (ports) and define your port as '587.'
Select 'Back' and change any other settings according to your preferences.
Send yourself a test email. When you open it, the new email icon should disappear.

  • N97 Email downloading

    My home ISP is orange.
Currently my emails are stored online and I reply to emails on my PC through IE. (my emails aren't downloaded to outlook as present)
I have setup my N97 to get my emails, but from what I can see only emails which I have replied to are coming through ! (not much use as I have delt with these emails !)
Is this a common problem. I don't see any options for this.
    Thanks

    My E-mail   settings are setup
but my Sync e-mail settings are not.
    What is Sync e-mail ?
Emails are coming through only when I request them (which is sort of what I want due to data charges)
Emails come through when I request them. But only emails that I have relied to.
They aren't the replies themselves, they are the origional email.
The internet works fine. I don't think I have connection problems

  • N97 email limit

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of inbox emails that the N97 can cope with?
I have set up two email accounts on the phone and both have stopped receiving when they have reached 2013 emails.
The email accounts are fine as they both continue to work on my p.c.
    Thanks for any help.

Do you really need 2013 emails on your phone ? There is an option to delete some from phone only, this would free up space! I don't know if there's a limit, I tend to delete any email I don't need straight away, from computer or phone. Also where do you store your messages, do you use E:Mass memory ? If not this will give more space, also in settings is the number of messages to store, try setting it to the highest number you can and see if it helps.
    Good Luck

  • N97 Email set up

Trying to set up the email on my N97 mini and I get to a loop that asks me for me user name and then password, then asks me if I want o save these, then regardless of the answer send me back to the start of the loop. after a few goes at this loop then I get an error message.
Im not technically minded,  I just want to be able to see ive got a new email, so please dont baffle me with jargon as i wont understand it.

Assuming you're following the instructions correctly, and entering the email details correctly it should be very simple. If you use setup wizard it will ask you to choose Ovi mail or your own email, you choose your own and enter the details. If this isn't working there may be a fault with the phone, or the email server may not be supported by Nokia (although most are). Also are you using the standard email client or Nokia Messaging ? I find the standard email client easier ad less  memory intensive. You can also try from messaging-options-settings-email and should be told, no mailbox defined, define Now ? and follow instructions. If you can't get it to work take the phone back to your supplier or Nokia Care Point !

  • N97 Email Client Options

    Hi All,
I have been reading this thread for some time now, and you would have thought I should be put off buying an N97, but I have gone and done it. Reasons are simple, the price came down to a level that I consider appropriate, I would not have bought it at release price, or the first drop, but after the negative comments all over the world, it seems to have pushed the price down.
I consider myself an 'educated' user and have done the sane thing and installed all possible apps on the mass store, and I upgraded to the latest FW BEFORE getting into all the settings. One program I installed was Active file so that I have easy access to the cache file and can deleted browsing cache easily, thus freeing up valuable memory. With all the apps I need loaded (not running mind you) I have about 48MB of C: available and with my commonly used apps running, I am left with around 30MB, and that is good enough for me....for now. I see the V20 software will be released soon and that has been rumoured to free up another 25-35MB of space there which pleases me and should ensure stable running for my requirements....I am happy for the time being...
ONE problem that has raised it's ugly head however, is the pushmail requirements I have. And for some reason, our beloved UAE Service provider has decided that we DONT NEED a pushmail client for this, but instead should go for their fantastic AED 195 a month offer for 1GB of data. That is a ripoff, we all know it, and apart from using Du...like it or lump it. On my N95 I had the pushmail client and it worked very well for the AED50 a month subscription with unlimited mails, and for my useage, was great to have.
I dont want to use a normal data package, I alread have a 100MB package and would swallow that easily with normal sync over the std messaging client....but now I have no choice. To hell with them I say. I seek an alternative....is there an alternative that anyone can point me to?
They might at some point release a client for the N97, but if it is in the same mould as the N95 client, it will NOT allow you to use anything but the C: as storage for mails and attachments...and we know what this means for the N97.
I am so ticked off right now it is not true, mail is not business, hyper-important stuff, but I do like having it and when it is taken away, it kinda sucks, especially when I dont mind paying for it...
Has anyone ever hacked the java client they use and find the settings, I am pretty sure one could get the settings which could be used for MfE or some similar application ....?
AAARRRGH, if its not Nokia, it's the ISP's putting us over a barrel....

I am wondering if I should give Jerker Soderlind some Kudo's.
It's very interesting to note people's reaction on these forums, and the belief that their ranting may be able to topple a multi-million dollar company. Sorry Jerker, your commentary was of no use to me....No Kudo's to you! ..and farewell wary traveller.
To the rest, yep, Profimail will work, any decent mail client will work.....but they aren't pushmail and they dont help fulfill the AED50 monthly comittment that the ISP is making me pay for. Sure, I could get their 'amazing' AED195 1GB download offer and use a pull mail, but then I am paying an additional AED50 per month, for less functionality. That being the AED100 I pay for browsing (data package), the AED45 for the pushmail with unlimited mails and useage) against AED195 for 1GB....better value I know, WOW, 1GB....but I will never use 1GB and would prefer a simple pushmail option. Grumpy me
Thanks for all your help and guidance anyway....but I am still interested to find out where I can get my hands on (and crack open) the java mail client they had for my N95.....surely this thing can be tweaked for the N97....

  • N97 - Email warning not working?

Have config. my email on the device, settings to use my wireless homenetwork  as the only access point and the profile using warning tone which is set to on. However, when sending email to my account not warning signal is given on the device telling me the subject and giving me the opportunity to connect to the mailbox and retrieve the mail through my wireless nw. I am able to manually connect without receiving a warning, however this is not how it is supposed to function.
Anyone any idea if this is a bug or have anyone managed to get this warning via wireless home network to work, or even via the internet network? Have reported this to Nokia and they never heard of the problem.

    The problem is:
I am not receiving a notice (ie. warning) on my phone whenever there is a mail on the server.
I used this function on my Navigator 6710 without any problem. If I have to manually connect me to the server to check if there is any mail I don't see why I should do this as long  as I am in my house and can do this on the PC. Let me clearify with an example: I am sitting by the TV and my PC is in another room. Whenever an email is received on my PC I will get a warning tone on my phone device. Then I know that I have to check the mail either on my PC or on my phone.
I do not know how to explain this better. Still unclear??
