NAP with DHCP with an external NPS server

Hi ,
I have setup NAP with DHCP setup in my lab setup  and it is working . On my setup both the DHCP server and NPS are running on the same Longhorn server .
What  I would like to understand better is the communication between the DHCP server and the radius server ( i.e NPS ) .I would therefore  like to run these two components on two separate boxes and capture sniffer traces as the two are communicating.
My question is what do I need to configure to have the DHCP server and  NPS to talk to each other since I will run them on two separate machines. Is there a write up that explains the interaction between the two .
Thanks
 Mohammed Yassin

I have configured NPS2 to proxy Machine Identity "Machine health check" to NPS1.  NPS2 is generating RADIUS Access-Requests when a client is attempting to obtain a DHCP address (as configured in the step by step doc) The RADIUS Access-Reject message is being returned, here is the output.  There is no user account in the originating request from NPS2, nor is the user account info present in the DHCP request by the NAP enabled client so I'm not sure how this should work.

  • How to setup NTP service in server 2012 R2 to synch with an external NTP server

Server 2012 R2 Std as DC
I have looked at the blogs on setup and could not make sense of them. I did this easily on SBS2008 before I migrated to 2012 R2.
What is the process to establish the DC server 2012 R2 as the time source.  Right now it is BIOS clock and I wish to move to NTP as the time source.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi JohnLenz,
You can use the following command line and refer the following KB:
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual
    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:<IP_or_FQDN_of_the_time_source>
Note: please replace "<IP_or_FQDN_of_the_time_source>” with the IP address or FQDN of your NTP server.

  • Set up web with an external dns server

hi i have bought a mac server. and i am new to configure them, I have hosted dns with a company called speednames and I have plans to host several domains there. but I would like to put them to point to the server because I want to install joomla on the domains. on one of the domains, I still want to have the mail to run on speednames. the rest of the domains mail part i would like to point to the server. do somebody have a guide to do that

Your DNS MX (mail exchange) record goes to Speednames, and your DNS translation(s) go to your own static IP address(es), and your static IP names are (at your external firewall) NAT'd and port-forwarded to your server.
The DNS MX entry is the identity of the host where your in-bound mail for the domain is sent, and the other DNS translations are where (all) other queries go.
Here are some details of [external (outside the firewall) DNS|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1594] and [internal (inside your firewall) DNS set-up|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436].

  • JRE with an external proxy

I'm hoping there is someone who can give some information on using JRE (with IE plugin) with an external proxy server.
We use a web proxy service that is hosted externally and only receives web requests on port 8080. Our IE browser is configured with a PAC (automatic configuration script) file that lists two external addressses and one internal proxy address all on port 8080.
I am trying to access an externally hosted web site (with lots of Java applets) from our corporate network and this fails when using an external proxy service.
Using JRE 1.4.2 we did a network trace and can see a request going to the external proxy on port 8080 but whatever the response is or what the JRE receives back, it doesn't like it and tries the next proxy address in the list and fails to connect.
In the JRE console, I see the following text when the connection fails (real addresses replaced)
Ping the proxy server <external proxy IP #1> on port 8,080
Proxy server <external proxy IP #1> on port 8,080 can not be reached
Ping the proxy server <external proxy IP #2> on port 8,080
Proxy server <external proxy IP #2> on port 8,080 can not be reached
Ping the proxy server <internal proxy IP > on port -1
Proxy server <internal proxy IP > on port -1 can not be reached
Does anyone know what the 'Ping the proxy server' is trying to do to detect the external proxy server? Whatever it is, it doesn't like the external ones and only works with the internal one. I'm assuming this is not a simple ICMP ping as the network trace shows a TCP request on port 8080 going to the external proxy and nothing coming back. I would like to know if it could be something the external proxy is blocking (so I could ask the supplier to change). I've looked at a good trace just using the internal proxy but can't see what type of response JRE accepts.
Later versions of JRE have the same issue except they resolve the last proxy (the internal one) correctly and still won't use the external proxies.
If there is anyone who can advise me on this or point me in the direction of some documention I would be very grateful.

Yes, add them to iTunes. The fact that they are on an external doesn't stop them from being in iTunes.
If necessary, create a separate library which you just use when you have the external connected.
Alternatively, if you have an iPhone or iPad you could check out an App like Air Video, which displays video that isn't in iTunes on your device. I think you can then use Airplay to get it onto your ATV.

  • Config RADIUS on WLC 5508 - Problems comunication with NPS Server

    Hi,
I'm facing some problems when configuring RADIUS auth with a NPS Windows Server.
My WLAN interface is in a different vlan than the management interface, is that a problem?
I want this wlan to be on a different vlan from the management. When i use wlan interface in the same vlan the RADIUS works without problems. But in different vlans is not working.
The NPS server as 2 NICs, 1 for the wireless vlan, and another for the management vlan.
the logs from the WLC shows this, but i have difficulties interpreting all this data:

yes, I thought of that. But if i use a simple password authentication on the wireless, i can reach the server with the same subnet interface. But i don't want to allow this subnet to acess the management subnet of the wireless controller.
One question i have is: The WLC uses whitch subnet on radius? Uses the subnet of the wireless interface or uses always the management interface?
Could you help me understand how the radius auth works with this wireless controller? Did you see anything strange in the logs that I posted above? It seems to run ok until:
dot1x - moving mobile 3c:c2:43:94:3e:bc into Authenticating state

dot1x - moving mobile 3c:c2:43:94:3e:bc into Aborting state
I also note this: "Applying Local Bridging Interface Policy for station "
    What does this means?

  • WLC Web-auth fail with external RADIUS server

I follow step by step the link bellow to configure web-auth with external RADIUS server but I receive a error on console debug of the WLC "Returning AAA Error No Server (-7) for mobile"
My Radius Server is fine, because I can authenticate on WLC Web page with RADIUS user.

    Hi,
I am having some issues when I try to authenticate an AD account against a NAP Radius Server on Windows 2008.
In fact, I own a WLC 2106 and I configured it to authenticate users againts a radius Server with Active Directory. I set the Web Radius Authentication to CHAP on the controller tab from the WLC 2106 and i am getting the error below
: Authentication failed for gcasanova. When I set the controller to  Web Radius Authentication to PAP, everything is working fine. I am able to connect to through the controller using an AD Account. But my purpose is not use PAP which is an unsecure protocol since password are sent as plaintext on the network.
Can someone tell me what's wrong?

  • Cisco ISE with both internal and External RADIUS Server

    Hi
I have ISE 1.2 , I configured it as management monitor and PSN and it work fine
I would like to know if I can integrate an external radius server and work with both internal and External RADIUS Server simultanously
So some computer (groupe_A in active directory ) will continu to made radius authentication on the ISE internal radius and other computer (groupe_B in active directory) will made radius authentication on an external radius server
I will like to know if it is possible to configure it and how I can do it ?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Regards
    Blaise

Cisco ISE can function both as a RADIUS server and as a RADIUS proxy server. When it acts as a proxy server, Cisco ISE receives authentication and accounting requests from the network access server (NAS) and forwards them to the external RADIUS server. Cisco ISE accepts the results of the requests and returns them to the NAS.
Cisco ISE can simultaneously act as a proxy server to multiple external RADIUS servers. You can use the external RADIUS servers that you configure here in RADIUS server sequences. The External RADIUS Server page lists all the external RADIUS servers that you have defined in Cisco ISE. You can use the filter option to search for specific RADIUS servers based on the name or description, or both. In both simple and rule-based authentication policies, you can use the RADIUS server sequences to proxy the requests to a RADIUS server.
The RADIUS server sequence strips the domain name from the RADIUS-Username attribute for RADIUS authentications. This domain stripping is not applicable for EAP authentications, which use the EAP-Identity attribute. The RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the RADIUS-Username attribute and strips it from the character that you specify when you configure the RADIUS server sequence. For EAP authentications, the RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the EAP-Identity attribute. EAP authentications that use the RADIUS server sequence will succeed only if the EAP-Identity and RADIUS-Username values are the same.

  • Need for NPS server certificate with PEAP-MS-CHAPv2

    Hi,
I have a question about a small setup I'm currently testing. In a Wireless access with 802.1X authentication based on PEAP/MS-CHAPv2, and a NPS server (MS server 2012R2), I've noted reading technet documentation that the NPS server or other RADIUS server
do have a certificate (issued by a 3rd party CA or by an AD CS environment).
However, it remains for me a point I would like to clarify (sorry I surely have a bad understanding of documentation). If my client is configured for not "validate server certificate", do I still need to have a certificate on the NPS server ?
Well, I know it is not secured, but this will permit me to test without configuring an AD CS, and without buying a certificate.
Many thanks in advance for your answer.
    Regards,
    Fabrice

You also need a server certificate in this case as the protection in Protected EAP is due to the encryption of the TLS session.
Not validating the server certificate just means that no additional check of the name is done, so the client would be able to connect to any RADIUS server - given that its certificate chain is valid. But the certificate chain as such is checked as in every
    SSL handshake.
You don't need a certificate issued by a commercial CA though - you could use an inhouse PKI. For tests you could use a self-signed certificate as well.
Edit: If you want to test self-signed certificates the easiest way is probably to install the web server role and use its built-in option to create a self-signed certificate.

  • Authentication Policy ISE with External RADIUS Server

    Hi All,
I would like to authenticate client by using External RADIUS. Once I create authentication policy using the new compound condition (wireless dot1x + Radius Username Matches "domainB\") I would like to forward the user authentication who make an authen using domainB\username to the External RADIUS Server Sequence. But when I check on the authentication dashboard, it still authenticate using the default authentication rule.
    Please suggest about this scenario.
    Regards,
Sent from Cisco Technical Support Android App

    Hi jrabinow,
Which details you would like to see ?
    Here is some infos.
ISEs are deployed in 2 domains such as "acme.com" and "sub.acme.com"
Each domain does not make a trusted relationship so these 2 domains cannot communicate between them.
Each domain has owned Enterprise Root CA (Microsoft)
Client who need to access the network need to authenticate with EAP-TLS.
    My environment
My ISE node joined into domain "acme.com"
    User will be "[email protected]"
Once the user from "[email protected]" try to authenticate, I would like to forward the RADIUS request from ISEs (acme.com) to other ISEs (sub.acme.com)
After ISEs in "sub.acme.com" return RADIUS-ACCEPT then ISEs in "acme.com" will process an authorization policy.

We have other NPS Servers with corresponding policy settings which are working so I am having trouble to understand why this errors occurs.
Initally the problem seemed to be related to the Cert on the NPS server cause it used the cert generated from the Somputer template. Now it uses the template for Domain controller just as the other NPS servers so this should not be the issue(Not sure if
    this matters?)
Please guide me on how to take this further
    Thank you :)

    Hi,
    NPS Event ID: 6274.
This condition occurs when the NPS discards accounting requests because the structure of the accounting request message that was sent by a RADIUS client does not comply with the RADIUS protocol. You should reconfigure, upgrade, or replace the RADIUS client.

  • Configuring Cisco ISE for Authorization with External Radius Server attribute

    Hi,
I'm trying to integrate an external radius server with Cisco ISE.
I created an External Identity Store>Radius Token Server.
I created a Identity Store sequence with just one identity store just as creadted above.
And I was able to authenticate successfully.
But when it comes to authorization.
I observed we just have one tab named Authorization while creating Radius Token server.
And it always refers to ACS:attribute_name.
If I want to define a IETF radius attribute, (lets say class with attribute id as 25), how could I do it.
In Cisco ACS we have a direct entry option in authorization tab where we can define the radius (IETF) attribute within Radius token server creation (within radius token server>Directory attribute tab).
How ever I try to define the IETF attribute here (class,IETF:Class) I am not able to authorize with this attribute value.
I tried with just one single authorization rule where it could hit.But observed it to go the default(as none of the rules defined matches the condition).
Can anyone guide me how can we define a IETF radius attribute for authorization within Cisco ISE and what policy could we set it to work as authorization.
    Thanks in advance

This is the step of Creating and Editing RADIUS Vendors
To create and edit a RADIUS vendor, complete the following steps:
Step 1 From the Administration mega menu, choose Resources > RADIUS  Vendors.
The RADIUS Vendors page appears with a list of RADIUS vendors that ISE  supports.
Step 2 Click Create to create a new RADIUS vendor or click the radio  button next to the RADIUS vendor that
you want to edit and click Edit.
Step 3 Enter the following information:
    • Name—(Required) Name of the RADIUS vendor.
    • Description—An optional description for the vendor.
    • Vendor ID—(Required) The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority  (IANA)-approved ID for the
    vendor.
    • Vendor Attribute Type Field Length—(Required) The number of bytes  taken from the attribute value
to be used to specify the attribute type. Valid values are 1, 2, and 4.  The default value is 1.
    • Vendor Attribute Size Field Length—(Required) The number of bytes  taken from the attribute value
to be used to specify the attribute length. Valid values are 0 and 1.  The default value is 1.
Step 4 Click Submit to save the RADIUS vendor.

  • Synchronize with  External NTP server.

    Dear All Good morning,
    Environment:
    SunOS CSF-2 5.10 Generic_138888-03 sun4u sparc SUNW, Sun-Fire-V245 system.
    Sun Cluster 3-2 Two node.
    Question:
How to Synchronize Cluster timing with external NTP server/device? If external NTP device is down will have any impact in the cluster setup?

If external NTP device is down will have any impact in the cluster setup? You should configure the cluster nodes as peers as well as getting the time from the external NTP server.
If the external NTP server fails, then time will drift, but at least the cluster nodes keep themselves in sync to have a consistent view.

  • Usage of external LDAP server with Portal

    Hi All,
We are in a situation to use external LDAP server with WLP 8.1. These are the
constraints we have to deal with:
    1. Only read is allowed from this LDAP server.
    2. This would be used for authentication purpose
If thats the case, how can we use Visitor Entitlements/Delegated Admin and Group
creation using Portal Admin tool since this will write to the configured LDAP
    server.
    Can somebody answer my question:
    1. Can we use external LDAP server - just for authetication (I know this is possible
by using JAAS LoginModule, but I just want to get confirmed on this ) and
    2. Use default and embedded LDAP server for all others like Group/Visitor Entitlements/DAs.
Any relevant pointers are also welcome.
    TIA,
    Prashanth Bhat.

Thanks for th ereply. Some of your answers are not clear. Can you pls eloborate
on this?? Pls see my comments below.

You can add the external LDAP server just for authentication, but in
    versions through
8.1 SP2 WLP will want to verify the user exists (via the UserReaderMBean)
    during
the login process (this check has been removed in SP3). A work around
    is to
    duplicate
the user in a provider that does impl UserReaderMBean.
Prashanth : You mean to say we have to duplicate the User in embedded LDAP server
    also??

Yes, the default/embedded LDAP can still be used for DA/visitor
    entitlements. In the current
release, the Portal Admin Tools can only be configured to use a single
    authentication provider
while forming entitlements. In SP3, all configured providers are
listed/usable by the tools.Prashanth : How can we configure Portal Admin tool to use authentication provider
    for entitlements??
