Need advice on encode settings for Premiere file to be played back on DVD

Hi - hoping someone can help me with my encoding settings. I seem to be on the right track because everything looks good until you play the video on DVD.
I use Windows Movie Maker to encode my exports to DVD. This software does not accept MP4 but it seems to accept a variety of other files and one is WMV. I first exported a WMV clip from Premiere at 1920x1080 (the raw video and graphics are also in that size). Then I exported another WMV clip to 1280x720. I just wanted to see what both of them look like on a DVD during play back.
Here are the export settings:
Here is what the1280 WMV looks like when it's played back on my desktop computer in Windows Media player. As you'll see everything looks very clean:
I then imported the 2 WMV clips into Windows Movie Maker, selected the 16:9 settings, and it encoded them into a finished DVD. I then played the DVD back on my 50 inch TV in my living room. Below you'll see a photo I took of the 1920 clip; notice how the text looks jagged:
Then the photo below of the 1280 clip looks much cleaner.
But obviously I'd like for the finished DVDs to look if possible even cleaner than the 1280 photo above - hopefully like it looks in the photo of the WMV playing back on my computer. These videos will be distributed to different local offices.
Are my WMV settings correct? Should I export to other than WMV? How can I improve on the 1280 DVD photo above so everything looks even cleaner (if possible)? I have Adobe Encore - should I use that instead of Movie Maker?

A DVD is 720x480 so anything larger must be scaled down to be legal according to the DVD specification

Best settings for .mov files on a Data CD or DVD ?

Hi,
I have a series of sequences in FCP. I want to export them as .mov files and .wmv flies to be played off a data CD or DVD. They are essentially talking heads with a few cut away shots about 5 min each.
I'm finding that when I save them as "high" quality .mov & .wmv files through "Export / Quicktime Compression", they don't play smoothly off the CD. Compression too high I guess?
Can someone recommend some settings for me? Somewhere to start and I can tweak... I'd like to keep the viewing window as large as possible. Some of the streaming settings are too small.
I have Flip4Mac installed for making the .wmv files. Suggestions there are welcome too.

Nevermind.
I just found out Snow Leopard can only write HFS+ on CD and DVD for data.
I have a utility called "Burn" that is freeware and it lets me choose the filesystem - including Joliet and hybrid.

Need advice on best settings for a Quicktime compatible video

This is probably a simple question but I am getting frustrated trying to wade through all the settings.
I have a 12 minute video I put together from video that was shot at 1280x720 at 30 fps. All I'm trying to do is export it into a Quicktime friendly video. I see in the "Publish+Share" window, it has a "Quicktime: Use for email and playback on Mac" so I selected that. Then I'm presented with a bunch of video codec options. I've tried "H.264" and changed the Width and Height to "1280x720" to match my source videos. The aspect is set to "D1/DV NTSC Widescreen". But when I get the final video, there are black bars on all four sides.
So I'm hoping someone can suggest the proper settings to use so that my video is able to fill up the screen without black bars on all four sides and is Quicktime compatible. Thanks

If you have Premiere Elements 12 set for 1280 x 720 720p30 project, then, if you please look at the following choices of export
If you want QuickTime
Publish+Share
Computer
QuickTime
with Presets = NTSC DV 16:9
then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset, change the Export Setting to look like
I think that you were going in the right direction, but did not get all the necessary settings in place. Please compare my settings with what you were trying.
This will give you your 720p as H.264.mov.
You could also consider
Publish+Share
Computer
AVCHD
with Presets = MP4 - HD 720p24
and then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset change the Export Settings to look like
You could change the Bitrate Encoding to VBR, 2 Pass and other, but for now leave as is.
This will give you your 720p30 file as AVCHD.mp4.
Please review and then let us know if this worked for you.

I have some files I am working with. Details and what happened:
Had some music files where I was doing some trimming/splitting. Files worked fine in itunes.
Open the files in Quicktime Pro 7 to trim them. Exported to aif.
Opened the files with itunes. They open and play just fine.
In Itunes I click"create AAC version" to convert them.
I receive the message "An error occurred while trying to import the file. The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file."
I don't know what to do from here. Suggestions?

Make sure that the AIFFs that you export are set for 16 bit PCM.
Also, assuming that you are using 44.1 kHZ sampling in your AIFFs, make sure that you are not trying to use 48 kHz in the AAC.

What are best Mpeg encoder settings for making DVDs?

In switching from PP1.5 to CS3 the procedure is different for making DVDs and we have to encode mpeg files that later get picked up by Encore DVD build proces. What are the best mpeg encode settings for making the DVDs?

Question:
If you are doing a video that is small enough that you are not worried about size, what is the absolute best quality encoder settings? Would a Continous Bitrate result in a higher quality file generally? VBR is for trying to make a smaller file I assume.
I'm frustrated with even white letters on black titles that have some flicker. I just don't seem to get the smooth quality I desire.
Should I look at a different encoder?
If you output PP3 to an AVI and then import it into encore, isn't there a reduction of Q. due to the save to the AVI file?

How do I determine correct media encoder settings for Blu-Ray

I am successfully producing Hi Def Blu-Ray disks by using one of the presets available in Premiere media encoder. Actually using the HDTV 1080i 25 High Quality setting. They playback in beautiful high definition but I think I was just lucky. I would really like to know what determines the setting I should use.
1. I live in Australia so I assume PAL.
2. My camera is a Sony HDV. HCR HC9 1440 x 1080i. I assume this is irrelevant to export encoding settings for Blu-Ray.
3. The export encoder preset has field order set to Upper. I would have thought I should either match the project settings which is interlaced to match my camera and project. OR more likely I should match the audience TV which would be a widesceen plama or LCD TV. I dont know if these TVs are interlaced or progressive. OR is it more a question of what field order the Blu-Ray player expects me to send on the disk?
4. I will play on a TV 1920 x 1080 pixel capable and on slightly lower resoultion widescreens. The encoder preset is for 1920 x 1080 so I assume that's ok for all widescreen TVs even lower definition ones.
As you can tell I am a learner. Any suggested links to basic reading on the subject would help me.

Since no response I've been searching and found the following.
When encoding to make a Blu-Ray disk from my HDV 1080i footage:
1. Tell encoder the source is 1080i That is interlaced and it's TOP field first for HDV footage.
2. Tell it to encode to 1440 x 1080 resolution. You could tell it 1920 x 1080 but it will take much longer to encode. Will be good but why bother. All BD players will automatically up the 1440 to 1902 full screen.
3. Beware, not all players support BD-R and BD-RE recordable disks.
Seems Panasonic is good. Samsung probably good. Sony and Sharp probably not able to read (yet).
4. All players read MPEG-2 compression and H264 compression. Use a bit rate of 25 Mbps for MPEG-2 encode or 18 Mbps for equivalent result in H264 encode. Can use higher rates. These are minimums for a very good result
5. One pass encode is pretty damn good but use two pass if you have the time to wait for the encode.

Edit encoding settings for menus with animated background?

I just spoke with german support and they mentioned, that there is no way I can edit the encoding settings of encore how to generate the needed parts for an animated menu.
In this case I have a PAL M2V progressive scan used as BG and after menu rendering encore has created a M2V for the menu with strange interlacing problems ...
There seem to be options in the "project settings" > "default transcode settings" dialog (translated form german), but they are grayed out. There seems to be one setting "lower field" and I can not change to "progressive" ...
Its hard for me to believe that there are really no ways of altering the encode settings for menus. Has someone an idea?

Because DVD is Interlaced and not Progressive, I would do the Export of that Motion Asset to Interlaced with matching Field Order. There is nothing to be gained by trying to force En to do things that are not allowed by the DVD-specs. It is an authoring app. and not an NLE, so it needs the best possible, DVD-spec. material to work with.

Audio Settings for Premiere CS6

Hi, I currently run a Mac Pro with a 27 inch Apple Monitor with built in camera. The machine is also running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Could someone give me some clarification as to why the Audio Settings for Premiere CS6 are the way they are?
Example with a Macbook Pro and an iMac when I plug in a headphone I can get the sounds from Premiere pro as well as something from youtube to the headphones. However in the case of the Mac Pro with the Apple Monitor, when the headphones are plugged in the youtube sounds come through but the Premiere sounds go through the monitor. I'm aware of the audio settings but I suspect this is working by design because of the different audio options the Mac Pro have and there is nothing broken about this.

I've always found this a bit annoying.
The intended behaviour is that if you go into Premiere's audio settings, and choose "System Default Input/Output", it should change along with the system (so that the audio comes out wherever YouTube does). In practice, I've found this to be inconsistent in pre-CC versions of Premiere (CC fixes this).
One tip that may be helpful for you in general on a Mac Pro:
1. If you don't already have the volume icon in the menu bar (by the clock), enable that in System Preferences > Sound.
2. Option-click on the icon and you'll get a quick menu of your output options

Best Export / Video settings for Premiere Pro. Help Needed.

What's the best settings when you want to export a video from Premiere Pro for the web or otherwise. Best settings = good quality video and LOW file size.

The trailers are of high quality video, great sounds, and the Large sizes all fall under the 25MB mark. Any ideas on HOW this is done and what
settings in Premiere Pro CS3 might be able to replicate such standards?
Any help is appreciated. I normally use Encoder and export using H264 but that always seems to have an Audio lag. Any similar issues?

I understand that better quality = bigger file size. That's true in most cases, but there is a way around it, I'm just not sure what that way is. As I mentioned in the original post, the benchmark is http://www.apple.com/trailers . The non-HD videos on any movie page on that site hardly ever exceeds the 25MB mark. The videos are 2-3minutes long, and while they may not be top-notch BD visuals, they look way better than 95% of the stuff that's streamed off the net.
That's why I asked if anyone had any ideas on how to replicate something like that. Say I had a avi file of great quality, shot with a Panasonic DV Cam. I Capture the footage, do whatever I have to in Pr, and the result is now a 3minute video. I want it exported to a Quicktime file, I want it to look visually pleasing like the trailers on Apple, and I want it to fall under 25MB. I have tried H.264 encoding, regular Quicktime, and Quicktime via Encoder. Nothing reaches the expected quality.
For more examples visit http://www.passionpictures.com.my/pages/recent.aspx and download those simple 30second clips. All Quicktime, mostly under 5.5MB. If Pr can't do it, then I don't know what can...so I'm sure Pr can do it.
Problem is, how? Experimentation is definitely a way to go, I get that. But on the basis of the scenario given above...how is it done?

Encoder Options For *.wmv Files re Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hi,
I have a collection of *.wmv files that Premiere Pro CS5.5 refuses to open and it always generates an error message so I need to re-encode these *.wmv files into a format that Premiere Pro will import OK. I know that Premiere Pro will open *.wmv files so I think that the ones I have must have some data structures slightly out of normal. The files actually play with VLC and open with Sony Vegas so they are not corrupt.
What I hope to do is to use an encoder that will re-encode the files without any loss of video quality into another format or even into a slightly renamed *.wmv file in the hope that the re-encoded version of the *.wmv file will then be palatable to Premiere Pro.
Would anyone please be able to recommend an encoder that is suitable for my needs? On a final point, as a total novice with video, what aspects on re-encoding would cause loss of video quality or is there no loss of quality when re-encoding? Apologies for such a dumb question but I really am a newbie to all this.

If you can get the files open with Vegas, you could probably export them using Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite, both of which are lossless AVI codecs that work nicely with Premiere Pro. PPro needs the 64-bit version, but I don't know enough about Vegas to know if you need 32-bit or 64-bit, so just install both. Note that the files will be much larger, but will not suffer any perceptible quality hit.
I'm not sure of any way to do a WMV rewrap--I'll see what I can find.

Encoding settings for fast preview

Is there any suggestions for the encoding settings in adobe media encoder to produce fast preview of Premiere CS4 project? I have done about 40 minutes long project with lots of effects and I just wanted to view the result on big screen, the quality can be very poor - all I wanted to do is to check the whole movie before exporting it to high quality Blu-ray.

Launching uncompressed transcoding will produce huge file. I wonder, if there are some kind of draft transcoding settings/codecs which can be used to just preview final material. I already know, that when transcoding 1080p material with lots of effects will consume huge amount of processor resources. For example ~30min long project was transcoded to 1080p format in 5h. Regular DVD format needs only 3h to complete in AME-CS4. Is this time can be even shorter, with very low quality material (only for preview)?

Need advise on best settings for FCP 7!

I am looking for some advice on the best settings for FCP 7 when I am syncing sound using pluraleyes, exporting into quicktime as one file and then importing that new file into FCP 7 for editing. I have noticed that sometimes my Quicktime files are very large (20 gb) and sometimes they are much smaller (130 MB), but I never changed the settings.
I am working on FCP 7 and shot using my Panasonic GH3 at 24 fps (which comes to 23.98). My frame size is 1920x1080. Compressor is H.264. Data rate: 8.6 MB/sec. Audio rate: 48.0 KHz. I have heard that FCP 7 does not properly deal with H.264. So, I am wondering, what should my settings be? Should I set to "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48 kHz"? Is there anything I need to know when I export to Quicktime 7 Pro in order to not reduce the quality of the video? Should I be changing my video files first before I even start to work on them?
I haven't edited in almost ten years so I am desperate need of some guidance!

Thanks for your help. So, I already synced all of my interviews in FCP 7 (using pluraleyes) before I changed the video to ProRess 422. Can I just go into FCP (in the same project) and compress the video footage, import the new video files and throw it into the timeline? Or will this cause issues? I tried this as a test and it seems to be okay but I just want to check that there aren't any issues that I am not considering.
Also, when I do compress, it seems to take forever (sometimes two hours). Is there any way to make this move along faster?
