Network traffic slowed to a crawl after installing RV325

I hoping someone can help me.  Yesterday I installed an RV 325 on an existing network to replace a netgear router.  Now traffic has slowed to a crawl.
Initially I had both the Domain Controller and the switch that all the PCs are connected to both connected to the router.  I could not transfer even the smallest file from the server to a PC without it timing out.  I solved this by moving the domain controller to the switch so that the router is out of the loop.  Now local traffic is back to full speed but internet traffic is still extremely slow.
Email, downloads of files and general browsing are all extremely slow.  A speed test  shows a ping of 8ms, download 0.57ms and upload of 3.18ms.  The ping and upload are normal, the download is not.  I've tried rebooting the router but that seems to make no difference.  I'm on firmware version v1.1.1.06.
HELP!

I have an internet connection that does 200mbps. My ISP has an internal speedtest (to guarantee that "nothing internet" comes in between and you are testing the "LAN" connection). With my laptop connected directly to the modem I get 185mbps. With my old router (100mbps port) I get 80mbps.
Hoping for awesome results - since I specifically bought it for its gigabit wan ports - I ran the test again with the RV325 in between. The download speed stalled at 25mbps! (So for clarity: 1/8th of the max speed and 3 times slower than my previous router).
In bandwidth management I've changed both up and downstream numbers to 1.000.000 (it won't go higher) and I do not have any rules. This does not help a bit.
The port is connected @ 1gbps to my modem, my laptop is connected  @ 1gbps to the router and I'm running firmware 1.1.1.06
I really hope there is something I missed here, because I'm greatly disappointed so far.

  • HT1222 My internet speed has slowed to a crawl after installing security update 2015-003.  Any ideas on how to fix?

I have a mini mac with 8GB ram and running yosemite OS. I recently installed security update 2015-003 and now my internet connectivity have slowed to a crawl. sometimes if I turn wi-fi off and then back on the speed returns to normal but sometimes it does not.   Any ideas what may be causing the slow internet speed?

Please check the speed of your connection on this site.
Then start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Check again. Then restart as usual and post the results.

My mac has become very slow and crashes frequently after installing Lion. I have a 4 GB DDR3 ram and 2.4 GHz Processor. The Mac was running just fine on Snow Leopard. Has anyone else faced this issue?
Any suggestions on how to solve it?

As a extra precaution I would copy the user file folders of Music, Documents, Pictures etc to another external drive and disconnect, just in case.
Always maintain TWO backups of your data at all times, since your messing with one, you need another until your back at two again.

  • Internet/Ethernet network connection slows to a crawl

The last few days I've had a problem where the Internet network connection speed on my Power Mac slows to a crawl (about 1Mbps) and can only be fixed by re-starting the Mac which restores normal connexction performance for a while.
The Internet connection runs at around 35-37Mbps and is routed via a BT HomeHub 3. The laptops which connect via WiFi don't show any slowdown in speed tests, only the Mac Pro, which is connected to the Hub via Ethernet. I've tried swapping between the two Ethernet ports on the Mac but it doesn't make any difference. The HomeHub has been in for about 5 months but this problem has only just started in the last week or so and the period for which the restart restores the network performance seems to be decreasing.
Is there any way to reset network software, or some prefs I could delete?
    It's an early 2008 eight-core Xeon MacPro running 10.6.8, 8GB RAM.
    Thanks

    Hi Michael,
    Some things to try...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Cured one slow one that way here...

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Just sits there occupying very little space & never interfering, unless you need to invoke it in Single User Mode.
Open Network Utility in Applications>Utilities>Info tab, select the correct Ethernet & what is the Link Speed & are there any Errors/Collisions on the right?

  • MacBook Pro Slowed to a CRAWL after less then a week....

    Hello All,
I'm new to Mac. I just got a MacBook Pro last week.
Well, for some reason it has slowed to a crawl....
The dock show/hide and magnify isn't working either. Neither is the "active screen corners" feature on the dashboard. In addition to that, the system does not highlight menu items and show the submenus.
Also when starting applications they take forever to load.
It's acting like it has no ram even though it has 2 gigs and a 2.16 processor. The ram is showing up in the "About this MAC" screen though.
I've tried turning off all startup login items. Nothing is being loaded into memory. I've also tried running the disk utility.... still having the same problems.
I'm new to Mac so perhaps I'm missing something completely obvious.
What would you all suggest is going on, and what do I need to do to fix it?
    Thank you
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    James:
I suspect Wizard's problems resulted from too many widgets and possibly some not quite compatible software. Slowdown can result from lack of free physical RAM, so that Virtual Memory swap files on disk have to be frequently accessed. I don't think he mentioned how much RAM is installed. His symptoms go beyond mere slowdown, however, so I would suspect other software problems as well.
Cutting way back on widgets together with restarting can work wonders sometimes.
OS X handles file fragmentation pretty well, for file sizes up to about 20 MB. It's probably not necessary to run defrag on a Mac unless one wants to clean up a large space for video work. I don't have defrag software. I'd rather wipe the drive (maybe once a year) and reload from a backup drive. I do swear by DiskWarrior, however, and hope they release an Intel version soon. DW does a great job of correcting disk and file errors and optimizes the directory.
Apple has been packing a lot of changes into OS incremental upgrades. To interpret that as comparable to Windows Service Packs probably isn't very accurate. Yes, some bugs are fixed but there have been steady upgrades of core features. Security fixes are often included as well. But I've experienced no stability problems whatever.
Some users recommend using Combo updates instead of using Software Update. I've always used Software Update and have never had a problem. The important thing, either way, is to make certain the operating system and disk directory are 'clean' and trouble-free before and after the update.
I've never had to do an OS reinstall except once, when I was tinkering with System files and slipped up. Routine preventive maintenance works.

  • Processing time has slowed to a crawl since install of ViewSonic monitor.

All processing functions have slowed to a crawl since I installed a ViewSonic monitor VX2270Smh-LED.  The system recognized the monitor immediately.  It is connected through the Mini-DVI port on the MacBook Pro and through an adapter to the DVI port on the monitor.  I have the displays configured as one very wide monitor so I can move windows back and forth.  It doesn't seem to matter what I am working on, browser, spreadsheet, email, every command results in the spinning wheel.
Have looked for a driver for the ViewSonic but they don't make them.  Is there something available with Apple that will help this?

To isolate whether the monitor is really the culprit I would run a benchmark without the monitor connected and with.
You should rely on the numbers from the benchmark to tell whether there is a difference.  Perception can be a very dicey thing.
    I have used xbench:

  • My computer slows down and hangs after installing oracle 10g

My computer just slows down after installing oracle 10g. I have a pentium 4 3ghz with 512 memory (32 mb used by graphics built in card). It slows down and hanged even if I agjusted the swap memory to 800 mb. I have two swap file/page file - in drive c and drive d. I even cannot shut it down because it takes maybe 30 minutes just to see the "shut-off/log-off" screen.

Before starting up Oracle, when you go to the task manager, how much RAM does it show actually free? 512 MB is pretty small to run Oracle in the first place-- Windows and Office can use a fair chunk of RAM themselves, depending on which Office apps you are running. You may also be suprised by the amount of RAM that a web browser, email client, and the various other apps that folks generally install can use.

  • IPhoto hangs on opening preferences, slows to a crawl after multiple edits

while i reallly like most of the new features and clean ups for iPhoto, i keep running into spinning beach balls - usually for 5 minutes or more at a time. it's not just iPhoto, but other parts of iLife as well, but iPhoto is where it hits me hardest. and it seems to be iTunes related. Yes, i have a large library, but WHY does it take iPhoto so long to read the same library file the iTunes does in a few seconds? And WHY does it happen every time i open preferences after logging in? 5 minutes is way too long to wait to use a program i routinely use each day.
also, after making a number of edits on a number of pictures, iPhoto slows down to a crawl. it beach balls between images for minutes, then at last never comes back. i have to do a force quit.
what's up with this strange behavior? is it going to be fixed REAL SOON? and it sounds like i can't even go back to 06 since the libraries have changed. Any advice?
    d

    Dale:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe TD's suggestion was directed primarily towards the editing issue. The preferences and accessing iTunes from iPhoto issues we'll have to live with until iPhoto issues a fix via an update.
Boot into Safe Mode and try the editing again. If the problem goes away there there's an issue with your account. If it persists then it's either the library or the application.
If the edits work OK in the Safe Mode then create a test library, import a couple of photos and see if the editing issue continues. If not, import some more and try again. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to copy events from the problem library to the new one and keep your keywords, comments and titles intact. If the new library continues to be able to edit OK as you continue importing via iPLM then you may want to continue until the new library is complete and trash the old one.
If the editing problem continues in the test library then a reinstall of iPhoto might be warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Then reinstall from the disks that iPhoto came on.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Poor network speed with 1st generation time capsule and multiple airport express 5Ghz. My network speed slows to a crawl when not close to the time capsule. I get the range that I need, but the speed is painfully slow.

    Hello,
I have a first generation time capsule running 802.11n (b/g compatable) and the airport expresse's are the newer 5ghz models. I have 3 airport express's and I have the range that I need. I can run the time capsule using 802.11n 5ghz, but I loose the range and can't connect to all of the airport express's. My computers and mobile devices run 802.11n. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase the network speed. Would the new airport extreme fix the problem?
    Thank you

Unfortunately, you are experiencing one of the downsides to 5 GHz. That's because the higher frequency 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals.
After all, you always have to give up something to gain something else. In the case of 5 GHz, you gain potential speed but in return, you must give up penetration power and distance capability.
In order to work well, 5 GHz signals need to almost have a line-of-sight relationship between devices. Unless you can achieve this, you will do much better to leave the Time Capsule running at the 802.11n (b/g compatible) 2.4 GHz Radio Mode and allow the Express devices to "extend" that network.
As for the location of the AirPort Express devices in an exended network, that is critical for best performance. That's because the Express can only "extend" the quality and bandwidth of the signal that it receives. Post back if you need a few more tips on how to find the best location for the AirPort Express devices.
Would the new airport extreme fix the problem?
    Unfortunately, no.

  • Network connection slow to become active after waking from sleep.

Using MBP (2007) with OS 10.8.2  I put my machine to sleep each night after work.  Each morning when I wake it, the network connection takes over 90 seconds to become active. This is on a WIRED network.  Didn't have this problem before Mountain Lion upgrade. Before ML the connection was nearly instant. Any clues?

I am seeing the same issue. I believe it started after upgrading to 10.8.2. (I did not notice such long network reconnections after wake with either 10.8.0 or 10.8.1.) I am also on a wired network. Same result using DHCP and fixed IP.
The network reconnection after wake used to be nearly instantaneous.

  • Slow Boot of Windows after installing Anyconnect Client

We have just migrated our Windows 7 x64 SP1 machines from the Cisco IPSec client to Cisco Anyconnect  3.1.02x.
Users have immediately noticed the negative effect that the AnyConnect client upgrade has had on their machines - Adding an additional ~20 seconds to PC boot time. (NB: Boot time classified as the time it takes from power on, to the 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' logon screen).
Has anyone else encountered issues like this post migration? Anybody know of any timeout settings, or other settings that I could adjust within the AC client to reduce the impact on boot time?
    Thanks,
    - Scott.

I haven't tested with Anyconnect 3.0. Is there a particular reason that I should?
Good point re: the modules. The modules that I have installed (beliving that this would represent a fairly standard install) are:
    Base Windows Client
Network Access Manager (Used to connect to our corporate WiFi)
    Start Before Logon
DART (Not sure if I need this component?)
--Perhaps I could look at ditching SBL and DART if these are not typically installed?
I have been scanning the Windows System, Application eventlogs, as well as the Cisco Anyconnect eventlogs. I have tried to locate any mentions of a timeout, but have had no success as yet.
Setting the Cisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager, Network Access Manager Logon Module and Secure Mobility Client services to disabled has the machine booting some 20 seconds faster (of course Anyconnect client is then disabled)
I was expecting a small impact to boot time, but had not prepared our users for a 20 second increase!

The basic operation has become so slow that I can no longer work on even the smallest project.
