i used to network my G3 with the powerbook via ethernet when i had a dial-up internet connection. but now i have dsl and have put in a router so i can have both computers on the net, but now i can't get the G3 drives to show up on the powerbook desktop anymore.
from finder: GO>Connect to Server>Browse and then nothing.
file sharing is on on both computers. appletalk is set to ethernet connection.

  • Wirelessly networking Macbook Pro with Powerbook G4

I have a Macbook Pro, and a Powerbook G4. Both running Tiger. Both connected fine to the internet via Dlink wireless router. But when I click in Macintosh HD -> Network, neither of them show the other in the list. I want to be able to move files between the laptops but I'm a network dummy.
Anyone out there who can help?

Did you turn on file sharing? In the filesharing preference, the name of your computer is listed along with "Computers on your local network can access your computer at: xxxxxx.local"
In one computer, you can go to the other (filesharing = on) by finder > Connect to server yourcomputer.local
Don't feel bad about not seeing them in the "network"; I never saw my computers there either.
You can also go to the network pref pane and go to airport > tcp/ip and look at the number 192.... and enter that. The name should work though.

I am trying to connect a Windows 7 / 64 bit to an Epson printer on my Mac.  The printer is hooked into the Mac via USB; the Mac is networked to a Linksys wireless router with an ethernet cable, as is the Windows box. I installed the current Bonjour printer services software on the Windows machine, and separately installed the driver software for the Epson printer on the WIndows machine.  Running the bonjour wizard, I get an alert saying 'I don't have sufficient access to my computer to connect to the selected printer'.
The printer has 'sharing' turned on from the Mac end; this works with a Powerbook via the wireless connection.  Sharing is also turned on in the Windows printer control panel for this printer (under properties).  The Mac is a G5 running 10.5.8.  When I try to print a page from the Windows machine it gets hung in the print queue.
Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!

It's in your Keychain on the computer you usually use to connect to your network - the "kind" will be "AirPort Network Password".
Your Keychain can be opened by using the Keychain Access program. It is in your Utilities Folder.
Open Keychain Access, and type airport in the search field. You will see a number of entries. Choose the one with the name of your wireless network, open it, and check the box next to "show password". Before it reveals itself you will be asked for your login password - the one you use to log in to your MacBook.
The network password will appear in the box.
    Quit Keychain Access.

  • Not able to connect with my router, but other networks work ok.

I have a 2d generation iPod Touch. I can't connect to my home network that operates on a DLink DIR-628 router. However I can connect to other access points with no trouble at all. When my iPod tries to connect with my router, it asks for my password and I enter the password I think is correct, but it won't accept it. When I check the router web page there is no password visible. Does the problem lie with the Router or with the iPod Touch? I have three other computers and two wireless printers that are operating through the router with no problem at all.

    Have you tried:
    - Resetting your iPod:
    - Resetting network settings on the iPod: Setting>General>reset>Reet Network Settins
    - Powering off and then back on your router

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Guest Network login issues with EA6300 (Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC1200)

I have a friend who runs a Bed and Breakfast, and she's having issues with guests being able to connect to the Guest network.  She bought this router at the recommendation of Best Buy's Geek Squad, after she had some issues with her previous model.
Everything is set up properly, the router seems to operate fine, especially with the normal network.  The guest network can be seen, with a decent amount of signal strength, but when people try and connect to the network, and try to use it, they're never prompted for the guest login screen.
I've been able to verify that it does indeed work - I helped set it up, but apparently there are several people using Android phones and tablets, and iPads that do not receive a prompt to enter the guest password and continue on.
Are there any manual addresses that can be input into a browser in order to access the guest login web screen?
OR better yet... is there a way to assign the password to the guest SSID, much like a normal wireless access point, rather than allowing guests to connect to a password-promptless guest SSID and have to try and finagle the guest password screen to pop up?
This is very frustrating, for both my friend who runs a business and myself who supports this.  Is the router faulty?  Is there a new firmware??  Any help would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the feedback.  I was able to get the guest network working pretty much 100% this afternoon.  What I did was I reset the router to factory settings to give it the purest settings, then went through then updated the network names and passwords, so existing devices would automatically reconnect to the main network.
I also made sure that all existing devices that were trying to connect to the guest had the guest network settings "forgotten" and purged from their devices cache.  When connecting again, the guest network immediately forwarded to the browser guest login.  The only issues I had were when a device still had the guest network stored.  Forgetting it and reconnecting from scratch worked.
I verified it on and iPhone, iPad, 2 Android phones, 2 Windows 8 computers, and 1 Windows 7 laptop.  Thanks for the suggestions.
I definitely recommend resetting the router to factory settings (make a backup first though), and the make sure any problematic guest devices have any guest network saved data is purged from the device and then attempt a reconnect.

  • Need Help with Linksys router broadband-b

I have a Linksys wireless-B broadband router for some reason it just went crazy on me. My wireless card is a wireless - G . Now when i had Verizon DSL  i  got this router and a USB  wireless adaptor from verizon. I had the usb adaptor on my wife computer and the router and modem  on my notebook for six months we had there dsl service until we moved  to a nother city. Once we  had all of our service's transfered  to the new home  we could not get verizon DSL there.
So for a nother six months we had to use  dial up and being that we run a home business dial up was just not up to the task. Well we got rid of dish network  just to get cable T.V. just to get the cable broadband service. That's when i got a wireless card for my notebook anyway  for six months the network was working  just fine with the router and my wireless card.
Until  Sept  this year just a few weeks ago the router started going crazy. Before my note book was config for windows to connect  linksys was connecting  and i would see all conection in the site survey,  and my own network  also. Until a few weeks a go  my network would not show .
So i call linksys the have me download   some up dated firmware that would not install on my notebook or my wife computer after being on the phone for hours with linksys they come to tell me that  the router is ok and working alright after all the test   and steps they took me through with the router. Linksys tells me that there is something wrong with my PCM slot  on my notebook or either  my linksys wireless card. Ok  First of all i can pick up signal  on other networks  and go on line like the Hilton  Hotel  when i go in there parking lot, Second  i can pick up othr networks and get on line that are not secured  sometimes  so this tells me that there is Nothing wrong with my PCMI slot or the wireless card.
Now i took my router across the street to a friend house and guess what he gets a signal  off the router with his notebook  but i can not and when we plug the router in the AC outlet  the internet light was flashing like crazy and my wireless card was not even in my notebook so that tells me that someone close was pulling signal off my router  but i cant.
Can someone please explain this to me  i want to get another router wireless - G this time but if there is something that can be done to get this one working like it should that would really help.
The Notebook has been checked out and config  and that works well when i hook the either net plug in from the modem  the  router was config as well but i just can't get a connected to the router when i use the wireless card.

Yes press and hold the reset button in back for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 10 seconds and power cycle the router.  Now connect to 192.168.1.1 username blank, password 'admin'.  Now try.

  • Ethernet configuration with SMC router and Titanium

This concerns a Titanium Powerbook G4/500 and an SMC 2804WBR router.
I plugged in a known-working Ethernet cable, and in System Preferences/Network, under Network Status for Built-In Ethernet, I got the message "The cable for Built-In Ethernet is not plugged in." A hardware test shows the Ethernet port to be functioning, but the TCP/IP tab, set for Using DHCP, shows no IP address, subnet mask, or router address. Renewing DHCP lease accomplishes nothing.
I went to the Ethernet tab and set the drop-down to Manually (Advanced) instead of Automatic. With a little experimentation I found that 10baseT/UTP in either full- or half-duplex connects with the router and lets the machine go on the Internet, but 100baseTX will not. The router lights for link and 100baseTX go on, but no addresses appear in the TCP/IP tab.
I use 100baseTX with a G4 and a Pismo Powerbook, so I know the router can work just fine at that speed using an Ethernet cable. Is there some glitch or weirdness peculiar to the original G4 Powerbook that won't allow it to communicate with the router at full speed? Is there some configuration through Terminal or elsewhere that will fix that?

    Hi,
the PVDM is used when you E1/T1 interface. in your scenario you need to configure SIP trunk between your Voice GW and ISP.
you need to confirm the below settings:
    Codec
    SIP sever ip address
    DTMF
you will create voip dial-peer toward your ISP and another dial-peer toward your call manager.
in this you are deploying CUBE. you need to configure
    voice service voip
          allow sip to sip
don't forget to add CUCM and ISP in the trust list under voice service voip

  • Mac Mini with D-Link DSL-2640T

I have a D-Link DSL-2640T and can't get it to connect to my Mac Mini.
I can't switch it (I don't think I can at least) because this is the modem/router that my ISP gave me in order to use their service. If it matters, I am in Dominican Republic right now.
The book for the router says the internal address is 192.168.1.1 and that the default username is admin, password 1234. All I am trying to do is access the router's settings so I can set up the wireless network, so that my Mini can connect to it.
I even Bootcamp-ed Windows XP into my mini to be able to get online, since it seems the router is only windows compatible when wired.
I tried to access the router settings on OS X 10.5 from Firefox and Safari, and then tried again from Windows XP, from Firefox and IE to no avail.
When the box to log in comes up it won't take the default user and pass, and I have already reset the unit a few times (sticking a pointy thing in the little hole on the side).
I don't know what else to do, and my boyfriend is not here He's teaching me well enough, but I'm still learning
Any ideas on anything else I could try?
    Please and thank you :o)

Actually, the book that came with the router doesn't say how to reset, but I did it by holding the reset button for 10 seconds while powered on.
I just ran the Ethernet cable from the router to the Mini, and tried doing the hold for 10 seconds while on, then I tried the one you sent me, turning it off, holding reset, powering on, and still holding reset for 5 seconds more. Waited 30 seconds to access settings and it still won't accept any of the above combinations of username and password.
I tried each reset twice, to make sure.
One thing I haven't tried is looking into the install disk. I installed it on the XP side, but I didn't 'explore' it to see what was in it. Maybe I should do that, too, see if there is a hint anywhere there.
Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it.

  • Using a third-party card and gateway with PowerBook Pismo

    Hi,
My birthday present this year was an Apple PowerBook Pismo - the G3 400 model (full spec. below). It runs the latest version of Mac OSX (10.4.6 as below). Before I got the Pismo, I bought a Linksys WPC54G wireless card for my original laptop, a ThinkPad T23. This works fine with my Linksys WAG354G gateway, but I'm wondering if I can do the same with the Pismo, since original AirPort cards are still hovering at £70-£90.
My Linksys card is the revision-3 ie 'v3' version. It seems to be detected by my Pismo - running the AirPort setup wizard means it is detected and the access point is found. My network is protected with WPA (I think it's version 2) encryption, and AirPort asks me for the network password during setup. However, the next screen is blank - the screen that asks about base stations. Clicking 'Scan Again' does nothing, and I cannot continue. This was all with the original verison of Mac OS 10.4, by the way. I updated the Pismo last night, so I'll have a go with it. Since it is detected by AirPort, would I be correct in thinking the card has the Broadcom chip that is AirPort-compatible? It shows up in Apple System Profiler as 'Third-Party Wireless Adaptor,' if that helps.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Rob Johnson

    You're quite welcome zwarbo.
Should you need it, the procedure (as I remember it, my Pismo's out of action at the moment) is as follows:
Insert the card into the 'Book and allow Mac OS to find it. Once the 'PC Card' symbol appears beside the clock, click on the symbol and read the drop-down menu. If it says something like 'Unknown brand - Network Controller,' the Pismo has found your card. Next, open 'System Profiler' (Hard Drive -> Applications -> Utilities). Point to 'Network.' If your card is working as expected, it should display 'AirPort Extreme.' If not, you may have a card using another brand of chip, since only cards using BroadCom chips are supported natively by Mac OS. It's hit-and-miss what chip you get in your card - there doesn't seem to be a general trend. My card has the FCC ID 'Q87-WPC54GV3' and the IC ID '3839A-WPC54GV3,' if this helps.
If it does show up as AirPort Extreme, here is the full procedure for setting up the card for your network:
    - Open 'System Preferences'
    - Head to 'Network'
    - There should be an option, possibly in the drop-down box, to select 'AirPort.'
    - You will then have the option of switching AirPort on.
    - Select 'Only Join Preferred Networks'and either search for your access point, or manually input your router's details (the default IP address for the WAG354G is 192.168.1.1).
    - Now, when you insert your card, AirPort should automatically switch on and connect to your network. Naturally, if you want to use your Pismo on the move, you'll have to uncheck the above and try another way. Enabling the 'Show AirPort Status' is useful, while you're there.
Take this as a rough guide. My Pismo has a battery problem, so I'm having it sorted. As such, I can't actually use it, so when the 'Book is back in action, I'll double-check the procedure (I don't posess another Mac other than an ancient iMac G3, long before wireless). The Mac should remember your WEP or WPA key, unlike the Linksys Windows utility, which is tempermental at best.
    Hope this helps,
    Rob Johnson

  • Recent crashes with 3com router

    Hello,
Recentley, i have many crashes with my 3com wireless router (3CRWE554G72T)
Crash = means the connection with the ISP gets disconnected
and resumes after a few minutes.
It's not an ISP/DSL problem since the thing works fine until i connect my laptop.
It only happens when i use my mac and the router wirelessly.
It doesn't happen with a wireless pc laptop
It also doesn't happen the i use the mac with a network cable or with a different router (DLink).
It's only the interaction between my MBP and 3com router.
The problem started after the installation of safari 4 beta or the 10.5.6 update.
Does anyone knows any fix for this kind of problem?
    Thanks
    Amir

I'm having a similar problem, with a few differences 1) it started before updated to OS X 10.5.7 and Safari 4 beta 2) its a Netgear router and 3) I have to manually reset (unplug and replug) the router to get it to come back online. Mine seems to "crash" upon video commercials (eg., Hulu) and downloading software updates. Same thing though....doesn't happen with pc laptop or connected via ethernet. I've tried everything from reducing security settings, repairing permissions, PRAM, turning off IPv6 updating router firewall all to no avail. So if you come across a solution, I would be soooo grateful if you sent it along to me.
    Thanks,
    Sonya
