New forum feature: A button or option to jump to the first unread message in a thread.

It would be handy if we had a way to open a thread and jump to the first unread message in the thread. This is especially usual when reading very active threads and it would save us some time getting back to the point in the discussion where we left off.

Do you know which iMac model family you have? There are four families dating back to 1998. Troubleshooting depends on that. This forum covers the first three families made from 1998 to 2005. iMacs newer than that get a separate forum.
Do you have the system disks that came with the computer? If so, and depending on model, you may be able to start from the CD/DVD and then make the jump to booting normally.
All computers has a little battery on the logic board that holds date, time, and some important startup parameters when the compuer is taken off wall power for a short time. If your battery was very old and died, then the settings the computer needs to start may have been lost when you unplugged it. For some Mac modles, booting from a CD or DVD gets around this temporarily, but ultimately the battery needs to be replaced. The internal batteries are cheap but can be hard to access on some iMacs like the G4 "desklamp" model

If you manually open iPhoto do you not see the photos?

Yu are trying to impoort photos taken by or saved to the iPod, right? If the photos were synced to the iPod then iPhot does not work.

New forum features, again

Hi all,
And once again, there are new features and updates for you rolling out within the next day or so.
1. The avatar issue that some of us were having last week has been resolved, so avatars should be working for you. As I mentioned in the previous thread, I would give it 24 hours for your avatar to be approved, but it will most likely be faster than that.
2. You may have already noticed some UI changes related to our new communities coming on board, and there will be a handful more. All communities share a common set of public pages such as communications and dashboard, so you'll start to see a message on those pages indicating that they are public. There will also be a similar message popping up on the OTN home page in the next week or so. This is a temporary workaround to a larger issue that will eventually be fixed in Jive 7. In the meantime, we tried to make the messages as unobtrusive as possible.
3. Direct messaging, as we've mentioned before, is being enabled. This will only work for you if you are mutually following someone. We have a thread on Pros and cons of personal messaging. if you'd like to weigh in on the philosophical aspects of this feature.
4. Finally, I am still working on fixes to the editor, monitoring the email notification issue, and gathering information about the create document feature. I'll keep you posted.
I've locked the previous thread, so you can report glitches with any and all of the new features here.

If I go to my Communications tab it shows the message "This is a shared public page. To go to your community, use "Go Directly To.""
I'm a little confused how my own communications are a 'public' page?
I know you're trying to help those who are 'internal' to recognise when they're possibly going to post something in public, but not sure if having this on a persons own communications is valid.

OT: New Forum Feature

Has anyone noticed the new breadcrumb links at the bottom of the topic pages?

Oh, the "flags." How I miss my flags. I want my flags - I want my flags!
The "New" bug/banner was also nice and is missed. "Last Post" is good, but obviously only shows the "last post." There could well be a dozen, since the previous visit. Those little bugs were great too.
While I miss both of those in most of the Adobe fora, I REALLY miss them in the Encore Forum/sub-fora.
Dang, I feel like a whinner, and DO like some aspects of the new forum layout. I also realize that it is a work in progress. I can even take having to log-in about half the time, and will tolerate being kicked off, even if I posted 40 sec. before. That this new scheme does try and save much of the post, that did not go through, is a positive. Do not know what its timing is, but I've actually gotten back ~ 50% on some posts.

HT4623 new iphone 5 home button not working (works 10% of the time, no rhyme or reason)

New iPhone 5, home button almost never works. I occasionally get Siri (which isn't helpful) but mostly have to restart the phone to get out of whatever app I'm in. ANNOYING!!!

Just to cover the obvious, you did peel the protective plastic covering the phone came with? It does not have prepunched holes for the button and the earpiece so the phone will work poorly with it on. Genuine scratch protectors that do have the appropriate cutouts are found at any respectable accessories dealer.
Else, has the phone been moistened accidentally? A wet home button will probably start failing like you mention.
Lastly, remember you're still on warranty for a year, even if you got it on Day One.

Modal dialog and new form after click on save do not jump to the list form

I want to open a list new form in a modal dialog. After the user click on the “Save” or “Cancel” button modal dialog close and the user not jump to the list view.
How can I do this?

If you are using a URL to open the new form then you can add the following parameter to the URL to redirect them to wherever you wish after the form closes: Source=URLToRedirectTo
For instance if the URL you were using was:
http://XXX/Lists/ListName/NewForm.aspx you would add the Source parameter as:
http://XXX/Lists/ListName/NewForm.aspx?Source=URLToRedirectTo

Anything you downloaded with the first Apple Id will forever be tied to it, and will always require it to update.
The question here is, why did you think you needed to create a new Apple ID? What was the problem with the first one?
To get rid of th old one, you'll need to delete everything you downloaded with it, and then sign out of the ID in several places around the iPad.
Go to Settings->iTunes & App Stores->Apple ID->Sign out.
Repeat the process, for Facetime, Messages, Mail and any other App you need to sign out of.

Button's Text Doesn't Display The First Time

I'm new to flash, and have come across the following problem,
and can't seem to resolve it. It's really urgent that it's fixed
ASAP. Can someone help me please?
If you go to www.apollosci.co.za, the flash intro, at the
bottom. The tab's text is missing. But when you go to another page,
then go back to the flash intro page, the text shows. It's just the
first time that its gone. And of course, the first time is the
crucial part.
I have tried different routes to fix this, by changing the
character length, trying different codes in the menu.txt... but
nothing seems to work. And as I mentioned above, I'm quite new to
flash and code.
I'm using MS Front Page to upload the website.

I am also having this problem. I open the app, it runs the startup screen and then the screen goes away but nothing happens.

I am currently involved in a class project in which I am trying to understand whether companies like Skype would be interested in technology that can modify voice/call characteristics such as pitch and tone (for entertainment or audio improvement) or even add the possibility to use cartoon voices and so on. What do you guys think about this?

New 4th Gen. iPod Nano 16GB. Plugged in for the first time. PLEASE READ!

I got the new 4th generation for christmas and i plugged it in and something pops up about registering and i clicked later.
and then it tells me that I have to Read and agree to the software.
So I read through all of that and at the end, there is a box you can check to say that you have read and agreed. I did that, but then you have to click a button to confirm/continue im guessing. Well, my problem is, that my computer screen is too small for me to see the button, in other words, I cant confirm/continue and am stuck there, I cant do anything else with the ipod with out continuing this step. I have tried to Maxamize the screen and dragging over. nothing seems to work.
Is there any other day to agree and confirm to this? If there isn't, is there a way that I can get to the confirm/continue button?
I really need to use my iPod.
I Have windows Xp.

you have a Windows computer -- that's the problem.
it would work just fine on a Mac.

Have brand new iPad 2 16G 3G and can't get past the first screen saying 'connect to iTunes' even though the usb is connected to my computer which has iTunes downloaded. We bought 3 iPads and I configured my sons ok but the other 2 are not working.

I have a list of DVDs in one sheet which are categorised etc. as well as having true/false checkboxes to mark whether they have been watched.

Yes, but you migth find it just as efficient to filter the first table to show only rows where the checkbox is unchecked.
Here's a method for showing the list on a second table (whih may be placed o a second sheet).
Add an Index column ( C ) to the Data table.
C2, and filled down: =IF(B=FALSE,COUNTIF($B$2:B2,FALSE),"")
The second table, Not Watched, uses the formula below to retrieve the titles of the indexed (ie. not watched) DVDs.
A2, and filled down: =IF(ROW()-1>MAX(Data :: $C),"",LOOKUP(ROW()-1,Data :: $C,Data :: $A))
Th IF part at the beginning acts as a switch to stop LOOKUP when the last unread title has been retrieved.

Search Forum option missing from new forum interface

I see that we now have a new forum interface.
I was looking to search in the forum and there appears to be no search option to search messages in the forum.
This option was there in the old forum software.
Any ideas?

Ditto. It takes too long, and returns too many spurious "hits", to search through all of the forums.
Any response to this yet?
