New Message Mail problem

the button that use to be at the top of the Mail page to start a new message on my desktop mail application, has disappeared. How do I get that back?

Menu>View>Customize Toolbar or right click or control click on mail toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar.
Drag the icon back to the toolbar.

Is your software up to date, by chance?  Sometimes that can be a simple fix.

  • Get new messages (Mail application)

Is there a way to show a status or progress indication when doing a Mailbox > Get All New Mail or when pressing the "Get new messages in all accounts" toolbar button?  I have several POP accounts and there is no indication that anything is happing unless there are new emails.
I am using the latest Mountain Lion release on a Mac Pro.  Snow Leopard and also iOS 6 do show in indication that Mail is busy fetching emails.
Thanks much for your insight and help.

You have two options to view activity in Mail:
In the menu bar, click "Window" > "Activity", which will display any incoming or outging activity
If the sidebar is hidden, click the "Show" text toward the top left of the window. When the sidebar appears, there may be a small panel that looks like this at the bottom of the sidebar:
If that is not shown, click the circled button:

  • New Message Indicator Problem

I just updated my 8300 to the latest software and something new has started. I have 3 email accounts setup through BIS to my device which creates 3 email folders on my device for each corresponding account. The old way I received new mail messages and notifications was a red star on the corresponding email icon and the message count for each account in parenthesis next to the email address for the account.
After I installed the latest software, I get mail sent to both the generic messages folder and the corresponding account. But only the messages folder has the red star/flag. I want it to go back to the way it was (nothing in generic folder and new email in the corresponding icon with a red star/flag for each new message on each account) and can't figure it out (I do have my messages (SMS and EMAIL inboxes) set to separate in the options folder).
    Please help!

Thanks for your reply. I found out the solution by accident. Under message options-->Email reconciliation-->Confirm Delete set to prompt (options on handheld only, handheld and mailbox, prompt). for some reason when I changed it from handheld only to prompt it seperated the mail (I also have email and SMS seperate under general email options).

  • Need help with new 3GS mail problems

I have a new 3GS v.4.1 about a week now, just getting around to setting up the mail. I synced through Itunes, checked the setting's. I can send email but not recieve. Can anyone help?

Any error message provided when the account is checked for new messages?
Under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect Sync Mail Accounts followed by selecting Apply. Follow this by deleting and manually recreating the account on your iPhone. If this is successful, do not reselect Sync Mail Accounts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences or you will be right back where you started.

I'm having trouble setting up a new e mail address.I've gone through e mail set up,but once I've put in the address and password,it's rejected.Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forum!
No clues as to what device this refers to here but are you using a network access point rather than WLAN for authentication as you can change it back once set up if you want?

  • Switching to BT Infinity and new e-mail problem

Just ordered BT Infinity with an installation date in three weeks, I am switching from Talk Talk. When setting up order I put in my desired btinternet.com and this was accepted. I understand that BT will use this to communicate with me over my order. However I can't log into BT mail (either on line or via Thunderbird), I just get an "incorrect user name or password" message. My e-mail address and password work fine for accessing my account on the BT site.
Is this a fault or is there usually a delay in setting up the e-mail side of things for new customers? Just wondering whether the email won't be active until installation date which is a concern if BT want to contact me.
    Many thanks

  • Every time I start to compose a new mail message Mail Unexpectedly Quits!

This seems to be happening when Mail is auto-saving the draft for the 2nd time.  Once I restart Mail I can then finish the message from the 1st saved draft (of course I have lost any changes between the time the 1st draft was saved and when I had to restart).  When I then try to create another new message, Mail once again unexpectedly quits.  It does not seem to matter if the new message I am creating is a reply, a forward or a completely new message Mail still crashes.  This has only happened since I upgraded to Lion and it is of course very frustrating to be constantly having to restart Mail.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just did that and everything looked ok.  I do notice however when I open up my calendar off to the left hand side where all the calendars are listed there is a triangle with a exclamation mark in the middle of it.  When I clicked on it a window, just like the one that has been popping up, opens and it gives the same message.  "server resoponded with an error" and it lists a various event and gives the choice to go offline, or revert to server.  I have to choose go offline in order to get the window to close.  Any idea what is happening?

  • E71 E-Mail Key and Related Mail Problems

Since my E71 was updated to the latest firmware (at a Nokia Service Center) around 6 months ago I have had a number of odd mail problems, which manifest themselves as follows:
After an initial boot everything with mail and messaging works fine as expected. However at least once or twice a day the phone switches unpredictably into an odd mode with the following symptoms:
      1) E-Mail key stops responding to short or long presses.
      2) New e-mails and sms messages which arrive do not appear on the home screen as usual, though they may (or may not) appear as small icons in the top right corner of the screen.
      3) For new e-mails only the title/header is downloaded, whereas usually I have it set to automatically download the first 2 K of each message.
      4) New messages still appear as 'unread' even after reading them. Manually setting them to 'read' works, but only after a long delay.
      5) The flashing navigation key light which warns of new messages/mails gets stuck in flashing mode and will not stop until the phone is rebooted.
Problems 1-3 occur every time, and 4&5 occasionally, but all can only be cured by rebooting the phone, after which it works fine again - for a while.
Since I first saw this problem I have updated the firmware twice (it is currently on the latest version), but the problem persists. I wonder if anyone has seen this problem or has any idea how to fix it? It's a great irritation with an otherwise excellent phone, especially since it was all working fine when I first purchased it. Thanks for any comments or suggestions

For anyone who is interested, I've found the answer to my own question, though not the solution to my problem. After several days playing with mail settings I noticed that when Retrieval settings > E-mail to retrieve is set to 'Headers only' or ' Msgs & attachs', there is no problem. However, if it is set to 'Size limit' with a setting of say 2K or 5K (i.e. just enough to capture the first few important paragraphs of any message) then receipt of many types of formatted mails larger than the specified size causes the mail program to crash, and the OS to switch into the odd mode described in my earlier post.
This is particularly irritating since I travel frequently overseas in Asia where roaming GSM data use is expensive (and there are no caps or limits on roaming fees), and due to the nature of my work my e-mails typically come with long threads and large attachments. Therefore I am left with the choice between:
         A) Downloading mail headers only and waiting till I can find a WiFi connection to find out what the message actually says
         B) Downloading the whole message and paying many hundreds of dollars a month in data roaming fees
         C) Using the fixed mail size limit setting and accept that my mail program will crash several times a day and
require the phone to be rebooted each time to restore normal functionality
Anyway, it seem this problem is clearly due a bug with the Nokia mail software in recent builds, since it worked fine with these exact same settings for the first year I had the phone, and repeated clean re-installs of the latest firmware do not fix the problem. Therefore, if any Nokia developers are monitoring this board you can add this to your bug list, and you know where to start looking for the bad bit of code.

  • Suddenly, I have lost the email toolbar for emails that I "reply" to.  The toolbar for new message is still there.  What happened and how do I get it back?

I have not updated operating system or anything, I just suddenly lost the tool bar on emails when I reply or forward an email.  This means I have no send or forward etc buttons.  I have to go into the pulldown menu for commands. When I create a new message, no problem.  It won't let me right click on the top of the email to try and add anything.  What's happening here? I'm using 10.5.8

Found the answer on another thread.

  • GMail IMAP account won't download new messages - still can send

Really bizzare bug...I use Mail with two accounts setup, both of which are GMail Imap accounts. Since yesterday I have not been able to download new messages for my inbox whenever Mail has been opened already.
When I first open Mail, it seems to sync correctly and get new messages, but after it's been open if anyone sends me a new message, Mail fails to download the message. Manually clicking "Get New Mail" or using the "Get All New Mail" from menu doesn't seem to help.
Rebuilding my Inbox does help in that it syncs my inbox back up, but after that it doesn't download messages like it's supposed to every minute (preference setting).
Can't think of anything majorly different that I've done in the last day, although I did install RC1 of "Things"....
    I'm on OS X version 10.5.6

Has anyone actually done this and had it work? I'm a little anxious to try it given the "Jeez. Good catch..."
If this fix works, why does it work?
I'm running Mac OS 10.5.4 and Mail 3.3 on a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB RAM.
I'm not sure that there is a connection, but Mail stopped downloading email from all my various email accounts shortly after I added a new IMAP account. I've now got 3 active IMAP accounts (one is Gmail), an inactive HTTPMail acct (hotmail) and an inactive POP acct.
I have tried taking all accts offline and bringing all back online at once and each individually. I have quit Mail and re-launched it. I have tried rebuilding each acct's inbox. I have tired re-launching after deactivating all accts but one. None of this has worked. If I click on "Get Mail", the pinwheels spin next to each acct inbox for a second, but no new mail appears.
What is really strange that one or two emails might download from any given account on any given day, but that's it. The one or two new emails that might appear from time to time appear to do so over night - I get up in the morning to check my email and discover at most one or two new emails, even though when I check the accts by webmail there are dozens of new emails between the three accts.
    God, I HATE webmail!
When relaunching or taking the Gmail acct online I sometimes get an error message that it's certificate is invalid. I find this hard to believe as Google is no penny-anty operation, but I clikc "connect" and still no new email.

  • Mail Problem - can't 'Reply' or write 'New' email message

    Hi all:)
I have a bit of a problem with my mail. When I 'reply' to a message, the sender's address does not come up in the 'to' field. I can type in an address and can put in a subject, but the cursor will not go down to the main body of the message. The same thing happens when I try to send a 'New' message - I can input an email address in the 'To' field and type in a Subject, but the cursor will not go down into the main body - consequently, I can't type a message.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    All the best
PS: I have tried to Rebuild my mailbox but it didn't help with this problem

Hi gav, and a welcome to the forums!
Yes, you can, but Might try this first...
    Quit Mail...
First I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
Try dragging this file to the desktop in case we need to put it back later, then logout/in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
(May or may not require you to setup your account(s) again.)
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
First, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these +folder & file+ to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
