New modular Xorg? Xrandr? max resolution? CRAP

afaik there is no way to edit the virtual screen size after X has started??? so i _have_ to do it in xorg.conf to get more than 800x600 on vga output with xrandr?
i'll try this in the xorg.conf
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Subsection "Display"
Virtual 2048 2048
EndSubsection
EndSection
And get this error

Parse error on line 9 of section Screen in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Any one has any idea to get with the modular xorg a higher resolution as 800x600 on laptop vga outputs?

XORG SUCKS HARD!!!!!!
if i have only the serverflags, monitor and screen section, it works well with higher resolution.
But than, the keyboard layout isn't correct anymore!! so Xorg want it from the xorg.conf too, and no more from the hal/fdi stuff!
so this is my almost complete xorg.conf!!! that is DAMN DAMN F$%K!

I have a new macbook pro and an LG w2361v monitor.  The max resolution the mac is allowing me to set is 1400x1050, why can't I get to the max resolution the monitor can accept (1900x1080)?  I know that the monitor is able to accept this resolution but It can't seem to find it.  Is it something to do with the new thunderbolt port? or the fact that I'm utilizing the VGA adaptor?  I could go HDMI if that works better.

    Use DVI or HDMI.
VGA runs out of steam after a while.

  • Max resolution connecting to dell monitor

i am dumb so please pretend i'm your mom trying to set this up and asking the Q .  i have a 3 yr old dell 24" (DVI/VGA) monitor and i'd like to connect my 13" MBP to it.  i bought the 'mini displayport to DVI adapter' for my mbp and have connected to my monitor, but the max resolution i can achieve under displays is 1280 x 800 to the monitor, so beats the point of using the larger monitor.  and the res isn't too crisp either.
am i hosed?  if i buy a new monitor to connect to my mbp, can i get finer resolution (i.e. at least 1920x1200)?
or is the 13" mbp limited to 1280 x 800????

    System Preferences > Displays
    Mirrored or not?
When mirrored, you use a compromise between what the built-in screen wants and what the external screen wants. If you want to Mirror, you have hit your limit.
If you uncheck Mirrored, you get Extended Desktop, and the | Arrange | pane is added.
Using the arrange pane, you drag the little screens to represent how your real screens are on the bench. The mouse can move across the boundary between the screens and onto the other screen.
Choose the Display pane. You get a separate resolution setting FOR each screen ON each screen.

  • Setting higher MAX resolution in CS6: HOW?

    Hi everyone,
I work in an industry where soon our Photoshop TIF files will require super high resolution for our pixel mapping. Though our files are not that big size wise (2x2 inches max), they tend to be between 10,160 and 50,000 DPI, depending on the print format we need to achieve. My question is:
On the current version of CS6, I am not able to import older TIF files with resolutions above 10,000 DPI; they automatically reset to the highest default, 9999.999 DPI. I also am unable to create new files above 9999 DPI. The program says I need to pick an amount between 1 and 9999.999 DPI. We have older machines and versions of CS4/5 that allow us any resolution up to 50,000 DPI, no problem.
Why can't I find any information on how to get my current CS6 version to not only STOP resizing images to 9999.999 DPI, but also how to increase the max resolution allowed? Setting something like this should NOT be this difficult. Did Adobe make CS6 have a high value of 9999? If so, we need to downgrade to an older version because we need this resolution with our newer projects.
Please help me find a setting or way to allow my CS6 to both read and create files at resolutions over 10,000. Thanks.

Might this solution work for you in CS6?
Create a document double the size you need at 5,000 DPI, then reduce by 50% at the end?

I have no idea if this works for you or not.

I don't want to go back to an older version, but I am shocked that this recent version (CS6), has limitations on the resolution offered…
I just want to know why new versions have a max pixel setting…
    LOL !
The best answer I can give you is because that's what Adobe wants.  Period.
"I cannot explain the universe to you, I can only describe it."  That's what my astronomy professor used to say at the ETH just over half a century ago.
My experience in the last three decades is that Adobe will extremely rarely address such a question, if ever.

  • Mac Mini 2014 4k display 60Hz max resolution

    Hello,
I can read in the infos for the new iMac 2014 that is possible to use 2 x 27" Apple Displays over thunderbolt.
My question is, what is the max resolution what you can use with one Display.
Is it possible to use a  Mac Mini with a LG 34UC97  with a resolution 3.440 x 1.440 60Hz with thunderbolt.
The HDMI supports only 30 Hz.
    Thx
    Jayybird

you can be right, not officially, but for now:
"On a late 2013 13" MBP/Retina, using SwitchResX, I was able to get the ASUS PB287Q to drive 4K (1920x1060 pixel-doubled "HiDPI") at 45Hz, rather than the max 30Hz offered through the standard Display Prefs pane.
Here's how: I created a custom resolution by copying the 1920x1060 HiDPI 30Hz, and then set its vertical sync to 45Hz (and rebooted as required by SwitchResX). The 45Hz refresh rate is now available in the Display Prefs control panel, and the ASUS OSD confirms we are operating at 45Hz.
Before getting 45 to work, I also tried 50 - but even after reboot it was marked as "invalid" so I suppose I'm maxed out.
45Hz isn't 60, but it is much better than 30."

  • 3rd Party Display Resolution Issue - Mid 2011 iMac 27inch Mavericks- iMac wont allow max resolution of Samsung SyncMaster SA850

    Hi Guys,
I just updated my 27 inch iMac to Mavericks and can't get my third party 27inch Samsung screen to run at maximum resolution. Even when using the "Alt" Click and select Scale shortcut I cant display the 2560 x 1440 resolution the screen is capable of.
I've called apple support and they couldn't rectify the issue nor could samsung. I've even tried the monitor in another iMac updated to mavericks and have the same issue.
Im connecting using a mini display port to DVI cable through my thunderbolt port.
My machine is Mid 2011 27inch iMac 3.1ghz core i5 with AMD Radeon HD graphics card upgraded to Mavericks
Monitor is brand new 27 Samsung SyncMaster SA850. I was able to get it to work at max resolution on a Windows 7 PC.
Any help would be appreciated. Thinking of returning the screen, hopefully Samsung will take it back.

The standard > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter only supports 24" monitor resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
For a larger monitor you need either a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
or perhaps a simple Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable if your monitor supports DisplayPort input.

  • Lenovo max resolution: just sad

Why is Lenovo settling with these cheap consumer display panels, even on their high end machines, while the technology for better display panels obviously is there ?
Am I the only one thinking this is not enough ?
    A comparison:
    New IPad: $500
    2048 x 1536, 9.7"
    263.92 PPI, 0.0962mm dot pitch
The best Lenovo has to offer, W520: $2000 - $3000
    1920 x 1080, 15"
    146.86 PPI, 0.173mm dot pitch
    Just sad.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi, A,
Lenovo, Dell, HP and the rest of the laptop makers don't manufacture panels, so you are going to see 1920x1080 as the max. resolution until the panel manufacturers decide it's economical to have seperate assembly lines for computers and high-def TVs. That's not likely to be anytime soon.
I'm a developer, too, and I can't imagine having to work off my 15.6" screen (except when I'm waiting for the dentist ). As, you can see from my signature line, I'm running 3 28" WUXGA screens (0.309mm dp), and may go to a fourth.  I have SQL Server, Oracle, VS 2010, Eclipse, Firefox, etc etc all open at once. How in the world do you function?
You are also focused on high res and fine dot pitch. The finer the dot pitch, the smaller the text. My eyesight is ok, but I would rather not squint at many lines of tiny fonts, but that's just me. Sure like the dot pitch on these big monitors!
Please enlighten me. Why is the W520 panel inadequate? I think it looks pretty darn good.
                                                                         Best, ZZ

  • Mac Pro Max resolution

Hi - I bought last week a brand new Mac Pro 2010 with 12 core processor and the ATI Radeon HD 5770 card, I have two 27 inch displays both capable of resolutions of 2,560 x 1,440. I am using a DVI to mini-port adapter for the second monitor and the DVI port for the primary monitor. The max resolution I am given on the secondary monitor is 1920 x 1080. However the primary monitor using the DVI port comes in at a much lower resolution. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong. I thought I would be able to run both monitors at 2560 x 1440 resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

DVI to mini-port adapter for the second monitor
The 5770 card is perfectly capable of running 3 30" displays.
To run a display wider than 1920 wide, you will need a Dual-Link DVI converter from Mini DisplayPort. Dual-Link means the three main data lines are doubled in the adapters, connectors, and cables to support the higer data rates required. Dual-Link DVI connectors must always have the entire central grid of pins present.
Apple sells a very nice one for US$100. It uses an additional USB pigtail to pick up extra power to run the signal re-drivers. Accell makes a similar one for a few dollars less.

  • Macbookpro doesn't recognize max resolution of an external display

    hi
    i have a macbook pro 7.1
    i just bought an external display, LG IPS237L-BN 23 inch Full HD IPS LED Widescreen Monitor (250 cd/m2, 1920 x 1080, 5000000:1, D-sub, HDMI)
my mac doesn't seem to recognize the resolution. after some internet research, it seems to be a common problem, except that all i've seen are some solutions via dvi port. My monitor has only 2 hdmi (from what i can tell, i'm no expert), and some "d-sub", whatever that is.
I've had a small mdp adapter, connecting via hdmi-to-hdmi cable to the monitor, but to no success. I thought it may be the prob with the adapter as i've bought it a while back, so i went and got  a mdp-to-hdmi cable (this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00675Q2UY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8 &psc=1), but again, the max resolution in display preferences is 1600x900, and all is blurred, while my main purpose is photo and video work.
    Any advice?

    Hi
    did you found the solution?
I have MBP 7.1 too, and just bought an LG 22" FullHD monitor, but i got the same problem.
I can set the resolution to 1920x1080 but the screnn on external display is not like fullHD, and its not as colorful as it can be(I tried the monitor with my windows laptop, and the colors and resolution was ok).
I'm using Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to connect them.
    Help me if you can!
    Many thanks,
    nelsonhun

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

  • What is the max resolution the MacBook can drive on an external display?

    Hi everyone,
I want to hook my my MacBook up to an external display, and I'm wondering what the max resolution it can drive is.
Is it different depending on whether I'm hooking up to a VGA display via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter or to a DVI display via the Mini-DVI-DVI-D adapter?
    Thanks!
    Dave

The MacBook can drive an external display at a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1200. More information is available on this page.

  • Does "cropping" a clip affect the max resolution it exports at?

This might be a silly question.
I have a project that's made up of a bunch of clips that were all shot in 1080p.  I cropped one of them, by a little bit.  When I export it, the whole movie appears in 720p.  When I uploaded to YouTube, also, the max resolution was 720, not 1080.
Is it because I cropped one of the clips?
    Thanks!!

Not tried it but could you make a 2.7k sequence and warp stabilise that, using stabilise only or stabilise and crop. Then add this sequence to the 1920x1080 sizing to suit.

  • New BUg in 645E MAX 2

Hi, I found a new bug in 645E MAX 2. When you run the FSB at 145Mhz, and boot it up, the actual frequency that it will run is 87. something... I verified this in wcpuid. On top of that, I ran the sandra benchmark and that also verified that the FSB was running slower. I change the FSB to 144 and 146, and both ran fine ehehhe...

i guess the system cant handle 145 and set itself to safe values after freezing?
