Next career move

Hello everyone,
I am a recently retired (early buyout) Verizon employee with 21 years experience in Network (Telecom, not Computer) Operations. Most of my experience has been in network implementation, support, troubleshooting, and maintenance. I have strong computer (administration and operation, no code writing exp.) skills and and just as strong Customer Service skills. After I take the SAP Overview and Introduction to SAP Solution Manager, which path would allow me to apply my current skillset to a different role in the Telecommunications industry? Thank all in advance.
David

Hi David,
Sorry for diverting to some other industry... If you have a good experience why don't you try Cisco certification in master level, you get equivalent of salary or more than SAP salary.  Some of my friends who are earning in Networking better than SAP guys (Including me).
Still you are keen to join in SAP then check for SAP Netweaver Basis Administrator or SAP HANA Administrator that would match slightly to you.  You don't need to do any coding for these..

  • ABAPer's next Career step

I am working as an ABAPer mostly in SAP AFS,I would like to know what is the career growth I can Expect as a ABAPer in next 6 month, and what should be my next step?
I am confuse whether to  remain on technical side only or move to functional side?or I should go with BW or SAP NW , BI ...?
At the same time I don't want leave my knowledge of ABAP ie I want to move such field where my knowledge will be useful for me.
There are too many modules in SAP Functional also , if I moves to Functional side then which is best modules to work with in future ?
What you think is best suited for me ?
    Suggest me right way .
Thank you for your valuable time given to me .
    Thanks & regards

    Hi Rajwant,
These days the growing trend for developers is to have knowledge of JAVA. These days many SAP products are being JAVA enabled and for that having knowledge of JAVA is will be very useful. Also WebDynpro is catching market at full speed so you can update yourself on this part as well.
Regarding other functional modules, it all depends on your area of interest. It would not be fair enough to suggest on the basis of this question that which module will suit you best. Have a look on the different SAP modules, read its basic descritpion and check which one will suit you most as per your technical competency.

However these days CRM is catching up the market and you can have a good look on it depth before deciding your next step.

  • Blue dots next to movies listed in Apple TV tab on iTunes?

When I open Apple TV in iTunes and go to the movie tab, some of my movies have a blue dot next to them and others don't. What does this mean?

The blue symbol means the movie has not been viewed. You can do a search in ITunes that will list that will explain all of the other symbols.

  • Need some suggestions on a possible career move.

I have Labview training and continuing with more advanced training. I want to pursue a more challenging career either in avionics or other aerospace field. Any suggestions as to the direction to go? I do not work for a major aerospace company. What companies, etc. I am looking for something more challenging. Learning Labview was exciting, challenging, and stimulating. I see a lot of areas to use it. Do some companies hire specific Labview programmers? Unfortunately no one in my level of the avionics field even knows about Labview and what it is.

Sure lots of companies hire programmers. For instance select integrators and alliance members hire LV programmers. In these companies most of the time you will get the opportunity to work with a variety of applications sometimes including aerospace, avionics, etc. Try looking on the ni website under the alliance program you might find some companies to contact.

  • Personal: career move from SD to APO

I am an SAP SD consultant with nearly 4yrs of exp and I would like to move into APO.
I am trying to find what the best way to do this is.
As a first step, I am planning to get trained in the following courses (internal training offered by my company)
    > SAP Core Interface APO
    > SAP GATP (Global Available to Promise)
So would like to hear experiences of the fellow consultants who moved over from R/3...what's the best transition strategy, any mistakes that you could have avoided...any other experiences..
    Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the world of SAP SCM
starting with GATP to leverage your SD experience is a good move I would say
but my opinion is GATP in itself is not a substantial area. I would also suggest you have a look at Demand Planning which is relatively easy to pick up but is a totally different concept. DP -GATP might also have some common areas .So add on DP to your list. Even if you dont get training there will be enough material to learn on your own
CIF is something that all SCM consultants should be knowing anyhow (except the Pure DP ones). just make sure you dont get stuck with the job of monitoring CIF
    good luck

  • Career Advice for SAP BI veteran

    Hi SAP Community!
I'm Mike. I had been an SAP consultant for about 13 years. The last 3 years, have not been working as SAP consultant.
    My experience:
    SAP Basis 5 years .
    SAP BPS 2 years.
    SAP BW / BI / BI-IP  6 years.
I have never been a team leader. Always a consultant. a Doer.
I am now in my late 30's. I would like to progress/ transition into a more suitable position.
I have attained my PMP certification 2 years ago. But, as said, no management experience.
In the last 3 years when I was out of the scene, I was doing all kinds of low wage jobs. It started with the financial crisis.
Back then, not many projects were available. What made worse was SAP BI-IP had a replacement of sorts : BPC, BO and BI Accelerator.
I had given up SAP BI for the last 3 years. Now, I want to be back into SAP line. Outside of SAP line, I feel like a loser.
I am not sure if I should go for SAP BO training that would cost me a bomb as its again all the technical details to learn.
I feel that I am too old to keep repeating learning technical things that keep changing. i have the ability to keep learning. I have proven this in my career. But I like to have a career using my SAP experience and use my PMP.
I would like your kind advice how to make my next career move. What would you recommend me to do?
Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you.
    Best regards
      Michael

    Hello,
I don´t have any special advice, since you´re much older and more experienced and I cannot tell how to put your skills into the best use. But.. if you would like to start with something new, "cutting edge", like BO a blog of mine could help. Check it here: /people/otto.gold/blog/2010/07/20/how-to-play-around-with-sap-and-crystal-reports-trial-versions-only Using the blog you should be able to recreate a training landscape (and it should not take you like weeks since you have "some" basis experience) and you can give it a try for free before you decide to go this way or not. If nothing else, I could spare you some money.
Wish you all the needed luck,
    regards Otto

  • Blue dot next to some movies

since update I have received blue dots next to movies i've gotton off of itunes and when i try to play them on ATV it tells me not correct format but they are iTunes movies I've purchased from the site is this a glitch or there something else that should have been done after the update? Thanks in advance

After last update I had a lot of issues like that where in the past all was good.
To finally fix I un paired the computer to the AppleTV (thus it erased the AppleTV).
I then shut down everything. Started modem back up. Waited. Started Router up. Waited. Started computer back up. Waited. Started AppleTV, waited. Then told AppleTV to sync with a computer, got the code. Went to computer and re-entered code to pair up for syncing. Then set all my sync options and let it resync everything back like before. After that all was good.
Now you can just try unplugging your AppleTV and turning off Computer. Reboot computer, wait, then plug in AppleTV. Then try that before going the whole re-setup process. Odds are that will fix it.
Blue dots just means AppleTV and iTunes both think you have never watched that file.
