NIC card on solaris 10

I have an ultra 10 running solaris 10 06/06. when i boot my system and run the ifconfig -a the hme0 interface does not show up, but i can type "ifconfig hme0 plumb up" and the interface will go up. is there a file that i need to edit to bring the interface up on boot??? thanks in advance for the help.

if your application uses the getipnodebyname(3SOCKET) API, then you might also consider making sure there is an entry (in the same format to /etc/inet/hosts) in /etc/inet/ipnodes. When a lookup fails to resolve in /etc/inet/ipnodes , it'll fall back to /etc/inet/hosts and try to resolve there, so your application will still work providing there is the requisite entry in /etc/inet/hosts. Synch'ing the 2 files will avoid introducing unecessary delays and overheads.
Cheers.

    Hello friends,
Is it true that I can't configure RealTek RTL 8029 NIC Card on Solaris 8 that installed on Intel Machine? I have searched few matched msg, but still found not solution. Many of them just got so frustrated that they just either bought another nic card or when with other platform!
Any suggestion will be appreciated. thanks. :-)

I am using a driver I downloaded from here:

  • 3-Com NIC Card Networking Problems on Solaris 10 (x86)

    Hi,
I have Solaris 10 OS installed on a PC. I am having trouble getting my machine to ping other machines on the same network. I have executed the following commands:
    #ifconfig elxl0 plumb
    #ifconfig elxl0 192.168.100.181 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
When I try to ping another machine on the same lan, I don't get a response. I have even did a the sysconfig command and reconfigured my networking and it still does not work. I have tried different network cable as well. I have looked in the master file. I see the driver for my NIC, so I know it is supported by Solaris 10. Can anyone help me?

Here is some more info on my problem and a couple of things I have tried to do to resolve the issue :
I executed the command "prtconf-pv". I found information on my NIC Card, which is a 3-Com 3C905B-TX Etherlink XL 10/100. I found my vendor id - 10b7 and my device id - 9055. I then checked "driver_aliases" file to see if I could find an entry in this file and I did see my vendor id and device id. I would then conclude that Solaris knows my PCI vendor/device-id combination and maps them to elxl driver.
I have also tried a different cable that i know works and still nothing.
I also found from research in Sol. 10 that there is file in addition to hosts, hostname.elxl0, defaultrouter that has to be modifed. That file is ipnodes. I checked the file, and my ip address / hostname is noted in the file. Is it possible I have a bad NIC? I thought about swapping it out for another one that I know works, but it is an onboard NIC. Well, if anyone has and additional info, I would greatly appreciate it.

How to check no. of NIC cards which are available in Solaris 9 server.
    Regards,
    Dinesh.

    Hi
For list network cards that was sometime registered in system:
    grep network /etc/path_to_inst | awk ' { print substr($3,2,length($3) -2 ) $2 } '
ifconfig -a show all network interfaces that curently configured
For check that interface that was listen at first comand available or not: Try
    ifconfg <interface_name> plumb
    ifconfg <interface_name> unplumb
Do not touch already configured interface or lost network connection.

  • NIC problems on Solaris 10 X86

This has probably been asked/answered before but I couldn't locate it. My X86 install finally went through but I can't see weither (of 2) NIC cards, one is a D-link DFE-530 TX + and I have added the driver_alias commands but still can't see anything but localhost from ifconfig -a, any help would be appreciated...been up for 24 hours now.

There have been at least two different cards from Dlink, with similar model names.
There is the discontinued DFE-530TX and there is a current DFE-530TX+ model.
You may need to take the card out and confirm the actual model.
While you do that, examine the card and find its actual ethernet chipset.
If I recall corectly, the older card uses the DEC21140 family chip, which works natively in Solaris(x86) 7, 8, 9, and 10.
Dlink's website suggests the TX+ card uses the Realtek RTL8139 chipset,
and Dlink has a Unix driver package available for download for that 'plus' card,
although it is bundled inside their Windows-formatted self-extracting driver file for some ungodly reason.
So ... if you have the older card, it should just work.
And ... If you have the newer card, then you may as well get the drivers straight from RealTek.

  • Load balancing over multiple NIC cards

Is it possible to setup some kind of load balancing at the OS level on a V240 running Solaris 8?
I've got all 4 NIC cards populated (2 each on different subnets with clients coming from both subnets and elsewhere) and I've like to setup some load balancing at the operating system to (dynamically) route the load across the most appropriate interface. Is this possible? I feel I should be getting more bang for my buck here, but I just cant find any info on what I'd like to do.
    Thanks for the help.

You can use IPMP in order to have load balancing for the outbound traffic. It's working fine, i have used it on many machines.
Now, if you want to trunk the throughput of your interfaces (for inbound and outbound traffic), you need to acquire sun trunking software. It can truncate up to 8 100Mbps interfaces, or up to 2 1Gbps interfaces.

  • Second NIC Card Problem

    Hi,
Need a little help. I have installed a second NIC card in a MPC 545 computer running Solaris 8 and created or updated all the necessary files (ie., hosts, hostname.prb1, netmask, etc.)

  • Detection of nic card

Hi there I just installed solaris 9 on my hp vectra pc, I got it up and running but it doesnt detect the network card, I have a belkin network card, is there anyway I can get that card detected under solaris 9. If yes then how.
    Samir

Belkin does not manufacture their own ethernet chipsets, they are probably
using chips from some other vendor. So you have to identify the manufacturer
of the chipset they are using on their NIC and try a generic driver for that chipset
(I found some hints on google that Belkin might use the Realtek 8139 chipset,
but you didn't mention the type of Belkin NIC you're using so this is just a wild
guess; if my guess is correct, there are NIC installation instructions:
    http://solaris-x86.org/documents/tutorials/rtls.mhtml).
Try the following: run "prtconf -pv > /tmp/prtconf.out", and look at the output
file, searching for the string "Ethernet". You'll find something like the following:
    Node 0x1b76f8
    class-code: 00020000
    device-id: 00001229
model: 'PCI: e11,b01e - Intel Pro100/B Fast Ethernet'
    name: 'pcie11,b01e'
    subsystem-id: 0000b01e
    subsystem-vendor-id: 00000e11
    vendor-id: 00008086
    The interesting values are "vendor-id & device-id", and "subsystem-vendor-id
& subsystem-id". (In this case 0x8086/0x1229 and 0x0e11/0xb01e for in
    intel NIC)
Type the vendor-id (or subsystem-vendor-id) into the form at :
    http://www.yourvote.com/pci/
and look for a device matching your device-id (or subsystem-id). This
should help identify the chipset and hopefully you can find a solaris x86
driver for it. Here are some links for 3rd party solaris nic drivers:

  • NIC card on HCL list, but it's not talking.  Why?

Hi, I just finished installing Solaris 10 (11/06) onto my computer. The whole installation installed without errors. Afterwards, I went to the log files and saw that everything seems to have installed OK.
After rebooting, I logged in with the CDE environment. Everything appears normal. I editted my /etc/hosts file accordingly. I hooked up this new Solaris x86 system onto my network. The NIC card is not talking. I can't ping from this new Solaris x86 PC to another system on the existing, working network.
My NIC card is the D-Link DFE-530TX+
This card is on the approved hardward compatibility list.
I have installed Solaris x86 in the past on many PC's without running into this type of problem, until now. Anyone knows what could be causing this problem, or how to know that my NIC card is being recognized by the Solaris x86 system, and how I can make this thing work?
Do you think I need to install additional drivers to make this particular D-Link NIC card work? If so, how do I install it? Thanks in advance.

Is there a NIC that is widely being sold in stores now that will work without needing to install drivers? It would be much easier for me just to go out to the stores and pick up a new NIC.
I live in Silicon Valley, so I can go to stores like Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, MicroCenter, etc.
Also, I already tried using Intel PRO/100 S and the 3COM Etherlink 10/100 PCI (3C905C-TXM). I downloaded a software from SUN, made a bootable CD, and when it scanned my PC, it says that likely my hardware will be compatible with Solaris 10. Yet,
At the beginning of the installing, I see messages like:
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuraton information.
Attempting to configure interface elx10 (or ipbr0)
    Skipped interface elx10 (or ipbr0)
Does this mean the NIC won't work?

  • Forcing 100MBs on ethernet card on Solaris 8

How can you force 100 MBs on an ethernet card on Solaris 8? How can you check whether your changes were made? Thank you in advance.

Add the following line to /kernel/drv/iprb.conf. If it does not exists create one.
    ForceSpeedDuplex=4,4,4;
    # This will force speed and duplex for a typical NIC instance. It
    # is an array so the first value sets instance #0, the second
    # instance #1 etc...
    # 1 will set it to 10 Mbps half duplex.
    # 2 will set it to 10 Mbps full duplex.
    # 3 will set it to 100 Mbps half duplex.
    # 4 will set it to 100 Mbps full duplex.
    # 5 will be the default value for Autonegotiation. If not provided, 5 will be used.

This is pretty slow, isn't it? I think the NIC card on this server is

  • Support for AVM ISDN PCMCIA Card in Solaris 10 ?

    Hi all,
I would like to install Solaris 10 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook. Today I use an ISDN-Card (AVM FritzCard, PCMCIA) for dial-up connections under Windows XP. Are there any drivers for ISDN and/or PCMCIA-Cards in Solaris10? Does anyone have any experiences with this issue?
    Every hint would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Kindly Regard,
    Holger

    Hello.
There only very poor support for ISDN cards in Solaris. As far as I know only the on-board ISDN card of one of the SparcStation computers is supported (this card is available as S-Bus card for other SparcStation computers).
I think there is no support for any ISDN card that can be attached to an x86 computer.
I wrote a driver for USB based ISDN modems that are based on the Winbond 6694 chip myself due to this lack of ISDN support. I tested it under Solaris 9/Sparc.

  • 2 NIC Cards in PowerMac G3 Server running OS X Server 10.3?

    Hello all,
I have installed a D-Link PCI Network Adapter, Model #DFE-530TX+, into one of my G3 Servers (Blue and White - Yosemitie) running OS X Server 10.3.
I booted and then installed the driver provided on the vendors CD and then rebooted. I get an error at desktop saying that the driver cannot be used because it was installed incorrectly, although I followed D-Links instructions to the T.
I visited D-Links website and there is a different driver available for Mac OS 10.2x. When I install this one, same error.
Apple System Profiler does not show that there is a card installed in the respective PCI slot. I have tried both remaining slots.
Is there something obvious that I'm missing concerning installation of a secondary Ethernet connection in this machine? I have been told that OS X Server 10.3 doesn't need the driver installed at all, it should just pick it up.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    PowerMac G3 Server-Blue-and-White

A tech friend of mine suggested that I run the MacOSXServerEssentials.pkg located on Disc #2 of the OS X Server installation discs. Since the D-Link card functioned under the client version of OS X 10.3.9, if I ran the OS X Server Essentials package and upgraded a client to a server, it should retain the PCI card information. I tried to run the package and was told that I needed to have a minimum of OS X 10.3.9 client installed. I had not installed the Combo Update, therefore, I only had OS X 10.3.2 client installed. Once updated to 10.3.9 client, I ran the OSXServerEssentials package. Once complete it did not ask for a restart and was still booted into the OS X 10.3.9 client version. I did restart and am glad to report that I am now running OS X Server 10.3.9 with two NIC cards on a PowerMac Blue-and-White G3.
    Thanks again for your suggestions,
    Kyle
