No audible warning for Low Battery?
I was talking with a friend for an hour when the phone died mid-sentence. I keep my phone in a case on my belt, so visual warnings are useless. Shouldn't there be an audible low-battery warning?
A message will pop up on screen when the battery reaches 20% and, then again, I think, at 10% and then just before it shuts down. I don't recall if there is an accompanying tone.

Ok well my friend's Video Ipod just spazzed out on her. When she plugs it into her computer it says "Warning very low battery". Then she plugged it into her wall charger and it charges and works like a charm. Then she charged it, took it off and it DOESNT WORK!! So she plugged it into her computer and it still comes up with the same message. I did the 5 r's (which really never work) and then I noticed a lot of people are having problems with their ipods after downloading Itunes 7. Could the two be related? please help??
I have determined that the firmware 1.2.1 is the causing this issue. I tried restoring my ipod using the 1.2.1 firmware, but the same thing was happening (no charge via usb). After reading the speculation here and exhausting my all my options I went to the apple store and discussed this behavior. Of course they had never heard of this issue before. I mentioned that I this started happening only after the 1.2.1 update. So what we did was downgraded the firmware to 1.2. This can be done be deleting the newer firmware downloads from this location:
/users/[home]/library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
After the 1.2.1 files have been deleted (don't delete the 1.2 files) it should be possible to install the 1.2 firmware. After doing so....guess what...MY IPOD STARTED CHARGING VIA USB. This problem doesn't seem to be effecting everyone. If anyone else is having this issue, point out this post to the people at the genius bar. Apple should be made aware this is an issue. -
1 month ago I changed batteries to my keyboard.yesterday appeard msg for low battery again. I try to take of the old ones but I realized that there was battery liquid dry in there. Now my keyboard is dead... Do anyone knows what to do... I need a new ?
If your batteries leaked and possibly eroded teh contacts the best you can do it to attempt to remove all the fluid and clean the contacts. If the keyboard still does not work after a thorough cleaning yes it will need to be replaced. A new wireless keyboard is about $59 from OWC or you may want to look online for a used one, sometimes OWC (www.macsales.com) has them used. Other sources are Apple of course, Amazon, and any Apple reseller.

Low battery warning for low signal?
Every once and while I get the screen showing the battery at red and asking to plug the Iphone in. When I looked at the battery life it's still had more than 30%, but my signal was on like 1 bar, could this be a reason why the Iphone might show a low battery warning?

[Solved] Warn on low battery/halt
Hi,
This is my third day of arch, and on two occasions so-far I have forgotten that my laptop is unplugged and so has run out of battery and turned off. I thought that maybe it was time to do something about it.
How do I go about calling a script (i.e. to halt or to play a sound or something) when the battery is low. (1)Would /etc/acpi/handler.sh be the right place to put things in? (have got the laptop dimming when ac power is removed, and the screen turning off when lip is closed)
From perusing the forums it seems someone mentioned laptop tools, however from reading documentation on it, in various places, it scares me a little. Things about killing HDs. (2) Can I be sure that I have disabled any RAM-killing features? Also, from looking in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf it seems that it only supports hibernate on low battery, however this is another thing I have yet to set-up. (3)Can hibernating be done with a swapfile smaller than my ram (RAM is 1.5gb, swap 1gb)? If no, (6) can I change my swapfile size w/o losing data on my /home partition (the partition preceding the swapfile)?

M7-1015dx Shuts down without warning on low battery
This happened before. I doubled checked that power options were defined correctly and they are. However, when the battery got to a certain point, the screen went black, no warning. PC did not hibernate, it just shut down with no messages or beeps. Battery tests OK. Any ideas?
Running Windows 7Run the long battery test and then click on details to see what the difference betweenn design capacity and actual capacity is.
Run a battery calibration.
Your actual full charge ( aka 100%) may not be as much capacity as you think it does. That would tend to cause unexpected shutdowns when the battery runs out of stored power.
Update the BIOS to the latest version available at Driver download section of the web support portal for your notebook's operating system.

Is there a way to turn a sound on for low battery on the iPhone?
Does anyone know if there is anyway to turn a sound on when your iPhone gets to 20% battery life in addition to the visual indicator? iPhone is the only phone I know of that does not make some sort of sound, and my phone keeps quietly dying in its holster, and I only realize it several hours later with people upset at me that I have missed their calls when it would have been too easy for me to plug it in. This seems like a pretty simple option for them to include for folks to tun on/off as they prefer. If not, how can I recommend this to apple for a future update? Thank you in advance for the help.
I'm not aware of any way to do this. You might want to invest in a battery case if this is a problem for you; our users here all have them.

My phone worked only while it was on a charger. I took it in to have the battery replaced. Afterward, my phone wouldn't work at all. He says my board is bad and offers me my $60 back that I paid for battery replacement and he keeps my phone for replacement parts. I think I'm getting scammed. What do you think?
Thanks for all of the replies. I wanted to post an update as a courtesy. This store has had my phone for 5 days. Yesterday, after testing, he said my board is defective. He wanted to put it in a diferent case, but he didn't have time, so I gave him another day. Went in the next day, still not done, but offered me my $60 back, but he was going to keep my phone for extra parts. I said no, I wanted to keep it. So I went in the next day to pick it up. Again, it wasn't ready. I told him I'll come back later to pick it up, he said OK. I went in again today, it still wasn't ready. I said I want my phone NOW, so he conceded and looked at my phone, said "hmmm...it appears to be working. Maybe it was the port." I just took my phone and got the **** out of there. I've been using it for the past 3 hours and it hasn't shut down on me and the battery is still full. All I gotta say is, don't go to anyone but the original maker. Lesson learned. Printer runs out of ink with no warning, and there is no way to verify the ink levels to monitor remaining level. :-(
The ink levels can be checked from the printer front panel or computer as described here.
If the cartridges appear to run out of ink prematurely check the vents as descried in step 3, solution 6 here.

Low battery audible notification
I've had my BB8200 pearl flip for about 6 months now. Occasionally I forget to charge my battery and will have the phone in my pocket and it will die and turn off. I might go hours before noticing it has turned off and often I have missed an important call. With previous phones I have had they would always have an intermittent beep or audible warning me the battery was low, I would then charge it up if I could or I would turn functions off to extend battery life until I could get it recharged.
It surprises me that there is no option for this kind of feature for this phone, is this the case for all blackberry phones or just this model?
Is there any chance that it was just an overlooked feature and might be added in a future release of OS update?
This forum has been great so for in helping me answer questions with out even having to post, I just read through previous posts and can usally find my answer that way. So far I have only seen one other post regarding the low battery notification... it had 0 replies.

Low battery warning percent fixed??
I have Vaio VPCYB15AG with Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32Bit retail. In it's advanced power options even though I can set percentage value for Low battery warning, I find that the warning is given (Blinking green power LED) when battery falls to 12%.Is this level kind of hard wired into the product or will it be a software / hardware bug?Thanks

If the LED or the light indicator is blinking, then something is going on with the battery. It could be hardware but we cannot tell right away. Please follow the steps here to isolate your issue:
Check the battery health on Vaio Care (Desktop) - If indicated as "critical" then it already hardware issue
Power cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds -> you may use a safety pin if you see a pinhole.
Reset BIOS - Turn off the unit -> press and power button and immediately, keep hitting F2 key. Once in BIOS, go to Exit tab -> Get Default Values -> hit Enter -> Save changes and exit.
Download or update Sony® Shared Library, Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver, BIOS Update Utility from Sony's website based on your location or from where you purchase the laptop.

[SOLVED] Low battery warning form acpi

I hope you could help me out, as I am stuck.
I am trying to automate pm-utils stuff on my laptop, that I have until now been doing by hand with CLI. I installed acpid and I really like how it works as it is very easy and clean to add event handling for closing laptop lid etc.
But I was unable to use /etc/acpi/handler.sh to detect low battery warning. Only event that is received under "battery" is when the AC adapter is plugged in or battery is removed/inserted, but not when battery is low.
I tried to find more info on this, but discovered only that it is supposedly possible to configure alarm level in /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/alarm, but that file seams to be depreciated and it's replacement (?) /sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/alarm contains a number resulting in about 3% charge, that should have been sufficient for at least writing to log file if any event was received from the battery, but nothing was. (And anyway, I don't know how to configure it using this file, as I am not allowed to write to it and it gets overwriten by something.)
So I could really use some pointers on why the acpi event for low battery doesn't get generated (or why I am missing it) or what alternatives I have.
I really would not like to run a cron job for checking battery level, as the acpi event method seams much more beautiful to me and would allow me to sleep better.

I did adapt your script a bit to suite my needs (Thanks for showing how to write deamon scripts! I haven't thought that it is so straightforward and beauty full.) , but I wouldn't say I improved it as I am basically illiterate in bash.
For now I deal with the output of "acbi -b" by searching for the "NN%" (with grep, as I know not of a better way) - remaining percent of battery charge - in it, as I suspect this sub string would allays appear in "acbi -b" output even when the 'remaining time' part is unpredictable (haven't checked it though!).
Also, my laptop is usually on mute so I changed the text-to-speech warning to a i3-nagbar popping up. (And along the way learned how to control spawned processes in bash! I love just GNU/Linux!).

Hm, and just now I got an idea, that, in order to avoid the unpredictable "acpi -b" I could use the acpi information form /sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/* directly as I already have a deamon running. Will try that out.
