No computers in scanner section?

I added a new gigabit core switch (3Com) to our network last week to replace the smaller (Asante) switch we had been running. This only affected our internal network topography.
What I'm now noticing is that in ARD 3 all of my internal clients in any of my lists only show as "VNC On" and they no longer show any other attribute in that list other than IP address.
As well, a scan of the "Local Network" in the Scanner shows now ARD clients. There is no firewall turned on the local network.
Any idea what this new switch might be preventing from being broadcast?

have you tried restarting your ARD app since the switch change?
if it is indeed the network and not ARD then it has to be something with ports not being open on the new device.

  • Canon MP640 - "No scanner selected" bug in Snow Leopard

    Hi!
I use a Canon MP640 printer/scanner combo unit WITHOUT installing any software from Canon. I like to stick with the built-in functionality of Mac OS X. Which means scanning via Preview.app or ImageCapture.app.
Until recently everything worked flawlessly. Have not used the scanner in a while though and now with 10.6.4 installed I found out, that the scanner does not appear anymore in the Preview.app menu FILE > IMPORT FROM SCANNER > ...
Opening up SystemPreferences.app in order to delete and add the printer again only helped for one scan when the scan was invoked with the printer button. Turning the printer off/on and the link between the computer to the scanner was broken again
In SystemPreferences.app Snow Leopard says "No scanner selected" when I choose the printer and click the SCAN tab in the printer/scanner section.
Anybody found out how to fix this issue without installing all the Canon printing/scanning software? I would like to stick with the built-in Preview.app.
    Thanks

Sorry to read that nothing has helped to date.
Checking the operation of my MP980 connected via USB and using Image Capture or Preview to scan, the process 'Canon IJScanner1' is the only process that starts when the scan is initiated from either application. And long after the scanning has completed and the relevant applications have been closed the process remains in the process list.
If I force quit the 'Canon IJScanner1' process I then find that the MP980 is not listed in the 'Import from Scanner' menu within Preview. And with this process still closed, if I go to Print & Fax and click on Open Scanner under the Scan button of the MP980, the Canon MP980 scanner queue will appear but with 'No scanner selected' inside the pane.
So I can recreate what you are seeing. But the question is why is your 'Canon IJScanner1' process stopping. If you check your Console log messages, is there any reference to this process stopping or failing?
Checking my log it showed as follows when I force quit the process.
    13/09/10 4:34:00 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501 (183) ({0x0-0x577577}.jp.co.canon.ijscanner1.scanner.ica{66850}) Exited: Killed
    Also, FYI, trying to start the process again manually is proving difficult. Double-clicking on the 'Canon IJScanner1' icon in /Library/Image Capture/Devices starts the service temporarily but then stops soon after. This is shown in Console as follows;
    13/09/10 4:42:51 PM {0x0-0x61d61d}.com.twainds.mp980.scangear140800.canon{67810} /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Canon MP980 series.ds/Contents/MacOS/Canon MP980 series: /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Canon MP980 series.ds/Contents/MacOS/Canon MP980 series: cannot execute binary file
    13/09/10 4:42:51 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501{183} ({0x0-0x61d61d}.com.twainds.mp980.scangear140800.canon{67810}) Exited with exit code: 126
The only solution I could find was to restart the Mac but this made the process re-appear in the process list and consequently I was able to scan from Preview again.

  • Missing scanner driver for Canon MG3560

    Hi there,
I've installed the software for the Canon MG 3560 all in one printer as well as the Canon IJ scan Utility however when I try and launch the scanner utilty it comes up with an error message " A scaner driver supporting this software is not installed. Install it and try again. Code:15,230,0"
And when I try and launch the Quick Menu that runs the printer the scanner section is blank.
Does anyone know what software I need to install to support the canon IJ scan utility? Is it a mac os software install? The printer is working fine so its just the scnner that has issues.
    Cheers

This is the log for the IJ Scanner installs - I cant see any install failure but there might be some other info here that makes sense to you?

  • My scanner has stoped working on my imac (10.6.8).

I'ver reinstalled the software and Canon will no longer help.  The scanner works fine on my macbook pro!  The scanner makes a noise when it is plugged in but when I try to scan an error message says that the scanner lock is on when it isn't.  Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks, Alyson

Well the software is definitely compatibile with the OS:

The scanner does appear in the printer and scanner section under system preferences - is this a good or bad thing?  Do I need to delete from there?
Thanks so much for your help!  I'm amazed that I've had a response!

  • EPSON CX3810 Printer/Scanner - need drivers to get the scanner to work

Finally got this default printer to work on my new macbook pro. I had to get a driver for the printer off the Epson website. Downloaded the EPSON CX3800 Guten v.5.2.3. Printer works.
Epson shows no drivers to get the scanner section working, same with Apple.
Does anyone know of any work arounds to get the scanner section working on the EPSON CX3810 printer/scanner?

This was originally a Windows-only device. There is only limited support for it on a Mac. This 'limited' support is basically low-level printing support only. There does not appear to be any support for the scanner section for anything other than Windows.
As this was not one of Epson's more popular devices, 3rd-party support is also limited. It is unlikely that you will get 3rd-party scanner support if VueScan doesn't work.
This device is discontinued. This means that support from Epson will be even more limited in the future than it is now. Translation: if it doesn't work now, odds are good that it will never, ever, work.
I'd get a new MFD. Preferably one which ships with Mac support in the box. Brother, Canon, HP, and, yes, Epson, all make machines which will work. (I'd stay far away from Lexmark, but that's me.)

  • TS2755 How to a delete iMessage from my Apple ID?

    Hi there,
I recently moved back to Blackberry, but when people text me (from iPhones) they still go through iMessages first (the blue ones). Now a friend of mine seems to be receiving these messages on his iPad, I don't know when I signed into it, but apparently I did. Due to him being not very trustworthy, and refusing to do it himself, I changed my Apple ID password so in theory for him to receive any more messages, he'd have to sign in with the new password right? Despite that, he sent me another message after I'd done that saying he'd received another message from my mum and quoted what it said. It was exactly what she sent me.
I do have an iPad but they don't seem to be going through to that, in any case, I'd rather my number and any email was just removed from any association with iMessage at all because I never use it, I don't want to use it and I don't think I ever will.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Nick

How/why do you want to remove them from your account ? e.g. if you are selling or giving a device away and want to unlink it from your account so that the new owner can register it to their's then you can do so via your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
A device or computer will only become associated to an account, and appear in the 'manage devices' section, if you use iTunes Match or automatic downloads on it, of if you redownload the account's past purchases on it (if you don't have any associated devices/computers then the section won't show). Have you done any of those ? You could try redownloading a past purchase on a device or computer and see if that section then shows with that computer/device listed (but if you do then it will become associated for a minimum of 90 days).
And for the hidden purchases, have you ever hidden any ? You could try hiding something and see if that section then shows : hiding and unhiding.

  • Scan slides on Canoscan 8800F/Mac OS 10.8.5

I am not a techie and would like advice on scanning slides with Canoscan 8800F, Mac OS10.8.5. I have been told this can be done in Preview but there doesn't seem to be a slide option and the slide shows up as opaque black, likewise don't see any slide option in Image Capture. Have downloaded MP Navigator EX but get list of supported models which does not include 8800F and need to install correspondent MP Navigator or MP Navigator EX and driver/scanner driver which supports my product model (have already downloaded driver which is supposedly correct). I'm very confused, will probably go for Vuescan option, but welcome any advice. (And why isn't there a scanner section in this forum?)

  • My Bad Experience with Time Machine

First, I would like to start by saying that I am not an advanced Mac user. I just so happened to stumble upon the solution using google. (The best form of tech support).
The short version of this is if you are restoring from Time Machine DO NOT Drag-and-Drop, use the Time Machine interface and if you are having Access Control List problems see the command at the bottom to clear them out, and so that the Mac will rebuild the ACL from each file.
Okay, I was running Leopard, and it started to act funny, random freezes, kernel panics, programs locking up. I (coming from the windows world) thought that a program had modified a critical system file (as I was running a few programs in beta state). So the then pulled out the Leopard install disc, and because I had all of my files backed up using Time Machine I didn’t worry about things too much. I did an erase and install and it said that “the package ‘essentials’ could not be verified”. I restarted and tried to install again, thinking that it was just a fluke. I then continued to try again, I tried several more times then I opened up Google (on a friends computer), and saw an Apple article that it could be bad RAM. I opened up my MacBook Pro and put the RAM that it shipped with in, and removed the aftermarket RAM. I tried the Leopard install again and it went through, everything ran successfully. I thought that I was out of the woods. I plugged my Time Machine volume back in, and because I remember Steve talking about how it was just a directory, I could copy the files back. That was mistake number 1. So I started copying files back (drag and drop) in the Finder. Okay I got everything back to my internal hard-drive I deleted the back-ups from the previous install on the drive (the Time Machine folders).
From this point on I entered what I would like to call Access Control List ****. I noticed that I was having to enter my password just to rename or modify the tags (in the case of an MP3). I didn’t know what was going on. So I first started looking at file permissions on Google, and I even downloaded two different program to try to reset file permissions on each individual file. What I came to find out later is that the file permissions were being reset but there was a custom file permission that (I assume) Time Machine was appending to the file when it did its backups. When I copied the files back I opened the file info and noticed that it said I has custom access. I thought that was odd considering that my individual permissions were set on Read/Write. So I spent about 2 hours fighting with it trying to reset permissions (through changing the permission on a top-level directory and then clicking apply to enclosed items). That applied the setting but didn’t remove the custom access setting that was lingering on the files.
At this point I was getting fed up, getting ready to dump Leopard and (god forbid) go back to Windows, but I couldn’t because all of my files were on a drive that was in a GUID partition table, and formatted with HFS+J. Well, I call Apple tech support (waited on hold for 35 minutes) and then they walked me through setting file permissions, then creating a new account, owning the files with the new account, and then re-owning the files with my account, that should have worked but it didn’t. The ACLs were being reset to my account, but the others weren’t. So I sat down and thought about everything they told me. I even tried the terminal command that sets file permissions (sudo chown account –R … something.) I got to thinking that it could be corrupted ACLs. I then hit Google, and found an obscure terminal command (I do not pretend to know what I am doing in the Terminal, and I do not have a complete understanding of how this command works (I will put it at the bottom)). I then ran it on the folders to clear out the “corrupted” ACLs for the files in the folders (such as Music, Pictures, Movies and so on). That worked, I then had read/write permissions to all of my files. So I hope that this will be able to help someone else out so that the do not waste a day trying to figure out what is going on like I did.

  • Recovery Partition - potentially bad MBR

    Hello,
I have a c55-A5104 and a c55-A5281(bought 6 months later) and I am trying trying to factory reset to restory windows 8 operating system on both.
I hold down 'zero' and when the menu comes up I choose to continue but on both machines I recieve an error 0c0000225. I have even tried doing it in windows and I get a "a problem occurred while resetting your pc" From research I have discovered that this might be a master boot record issue. Both machines have 1GB healthy recovery partitions along with the 100MB ECFI and regular large partition with 8 GB unpartitioned at end of disk (checked with disk manager).
I have not done anything wierd with the computers like installing linux, so I am guessing this might be a common problem because they are practically out of box, perhaps windows updates have messed with the recovery partition? Is there a way to fix the MBR on diskvolume1? I don't know if it has a different MBR on the recovery then regular windows so I am worried about using bootrec.exe.
    Suggestions? Please Help!

  • Elements Organiser - Copy photos to location

    Hi,
I have been a mac user for a long time and just moved to pcs. For organising my photos i decided to use the Elements organiser.
My only problem is that with iPhoto it used to move all the photos i import into a /pictures/iphoto directory or something like that. Is there a way to make the elements organiser do the same?
    Thanks,
    Nikhil

    Nikhil,
When you upload pictures from your camera, you can direct PSE where to store them by defining the location in the appropriate Preferences dialog. From the Organizer's menu, click on Edit > File > Get Photos and Videos > From Camera or Card Reader. You can do something similar for pictures you scan in the Scanner section of the Preferences dialog. Once set these preferences will be used automatically unless overridden.

I want to manage my devices in my apple id.
Tried to follow this guide but I cant find the Manage devices to click on.
    I use itunes 11.1.3
Removing an associated device or computer from an Apple ID
To remove a device or computer from your Apple ID:
    Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Click the Remove button next to the device name you would like to unassociate.
Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90 day timer. The timer must complete 90 days from the day the device was associated before it can be associated to another Apple ID.

  • Trusted Network Zone Configuration Tool is not there!

I've installed Solaris 10 x86 11/06 and Trusted Extensions, and when I open SMC and try to navigate to the "Trusted Network Zone Configuration Tool" that is supposed to be in the "Computers And Networks" section, it's just not there. This is a stand alone machine (for development). Does anyone have suggestions as to why this tool is missing and how to get it working?

Found the problem, I feel stupid, I was opening the non-TSOL toolbox in SMC.

is there a way to point which pc cellphone or any gadgets accessed a linksys router trhu wire or wifi even if its IPs are set to automatic?

    Hi,
There are two (2) ways in checking the devices that are connected to your router.  If you have installed the Cisco Connect software, a notification under the Computers and devices section informs you of the number of devices that are connected to the router.
However, if you prefer a more detailed list, you may access the DHCP Client Table on your router’s web-based setup page where you can find the IP address, MAC address and other necessary details of the devices connected to your router.
