No Sound using Quicktime

I am using an iMac G5, 10.4.8, with Quicktime 7.1.3 and for some reason I cannot hear any quicktime movies played. The video portion works fine, just not the sound. I've gone into all of the sound system files and my microphone and speakers work fine with other software. The problem seems to only be in the Quicktime play back.
I also cannot hear any sound with the Quicktime plug-in.
Can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks.

After still no success with your suggestion, I continued my search and went to:
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070312102605199
There, I found the fix that worked for me. It was the following: "No sound after update -- fix If you are having issues with sound not playing in QuickTime content after the update to QuickTime 7.1.5, try launching then quitting GarageBand, or launching then quitting the "Audio MIDI Setup" application located in Applications/Utilities."
I did both, and one of them fixed my problem. I now have sound with Quicktme 7.1.5 once again. I am very happy! Thanks again for the suggestion and the help.

  • No sound using quicktime 7 and 10

    Hi guys,
    I've got 2 MBP, on my old one I run Snow Leopard, on my new one (just bought 2 weeks ago) 2.5Ghz 4Gb ram (high-end product) the "freakin" Lion.
    I just can't believe so many issues happened to me... Furious!!!
    I experiences several problems to be able to use FCP 7 "voice over recorder's tool" normally, multiples crashes under numbers of app, and now just found out something new: a mp4 file recorded on my GOpro HD which can be played with sound on Snow leopard without any issues, this same file happen to
    crash almost everytime I run it on Lion, and when it comes to be readable, it is ONLY playing video... NO SOUND at all!
    Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

  • Playing sound using quicktime package?

    I'm trying to make a very simple program (actually, part of a much larger program) that can play a sound file. Nothing else needs to happen during that time, and no other sound file will be played at the same time, so hopefully I'll be able to avoid threads, mixers, and all the rest of that stuff.
    After not being able to make head or tails of all the extremely complicated tutorials on Java Sound, I finally found some very short code that allows me to play a .wav file, just like I'd want. My only concern is that it uses the quicktime package, instead of the Sound package that everyone else seems to refer to.
    In particular, it seems to be treating the sound file like a movie. Here's some source code:
    import quicktime.*;
    import quicktime.io.*;
    import quicktime.app.time.*;
    import quicktime.app.view.*;
    import quicktime.std.movies.*;
    import quicktime.std.*;
    // Lots of GUI interface stuff
        public void playFile (String fileName) {
             try {
                String soundLocation = QTFactory.findAbsolutePath(fileName).getPath();
                OpenMovieFile fileIn = OpenMovieFile.asRead (new QTFile(soundLocation));
                movie = Movie.fromFile (fileIn);
                TaskAllMovies.addMovieAndStart();
                movie.setActive(true);
                movie.setRate(1);
               } catch (IOException ioe) {
                    ioe.printStackTrace();
               } catch (QTException qte) {
                    qte.printStackTrace();
        }Does this seem to be all ok? Will the computer the program is running on need QuickTime, or is that completely different? Is this as fast as using Java Sound?
    Sorry for the possibly silly questions. Normally I'd say "I've tested it, it works, so that's all I need", but I got a little bit worried seeing "quicktime" and "movie", and wondered if this is what I really should be using.
    Thanks!

    Also-- something to think about. You may be able to
    avoid threads while the song is playing-- if you
    never want to stop it, pause it, or do *anything
    else* within the same GUI -- assuming you're using a
    GUI.
    Hope something in the above helps.In this program the user doesn't get to control the sound while it is playing. The program is an assesment of language comprehension engine for my lab. The user hits "Go", the sound plays (all 2-3 seconds of it), then the user hits "yes" or "no" depending on the sound.
    I'm only just starting to code this. Do you think it's going to need threading? I can't imagine that it ought to take more than 5-10 lines of code, but those Sound tutorials made it seem like I'd need 100.
    As for playing a "movie", that's why I was worried. Taking a deeper look, it seems like Apple's Developer website is promoting using the QuickTime package, but I haven't yet worked out how compatible it is with other file systems, and whether it's as good.
    Thanks, and any other thoughts are welcome!

  • Mpeg to Mpeg-4 using Quicktime Pro!!! No sound!

    Ok...I exported my mpeg file to movie to Ipod using Quicktime and it worked and then I dragged it to Itunes...but there's NO sound!! When I play it on Itunes or on my Ipod there is no sound!! PLEASE HELP!!!

    There certainly are some apps for Windows that will convert Mpegs and .wmvs, I was (and still am occasionally) a Windows user but I've never done video on it so I don't know them ...
    The .avi is just a contender, which usually contains DivX video. Do you have codecs for this format on your computer ( http://www.divx.com/ ) ? Once you have them, QuickTime should be able to play and export many .avi files to h.264 iPod-optimized video. Of course some .avi files contain video in an odd format for which you will have to get a codec I guess.

  • Can't get sound in QuickTime - please help

    Hi
    I purchased the Quicktime pro and downloaded codecs from perian first - I tried playing an .avi file movie and got no sound. Then I downloaded codecs from DivX player site - and still no sound - video is fine.
    I have sound using other formats and also when watching trailers on the internet
    Thank You

    You might try Perian plugin for QuickTime. I actually haven't come across anything since I've installed it to really try it out but it seems to be getting very good reviews everywhere I've seen it mentioned.
    Obviously you're not going to be able to get Quicktime to play everything just like you can't get VLC or Windows Media Player or Real..... but you just kind of have to keep finding the proper plugins for all the various media out there.

  • No sound with quicktime MPEG 2 program

    I bought yesterday the Mpeg2 option. The problem is that the mpg files have no sound sound when i play them. Theses files come from windows recorded with a sony HD camera. If i use the program Mplayer ( freeware ) everything is ok. Can you tell me what can i do to have sound with quicktime mpeg2

    Can you tell me what can i do to have sound with quicktime mpeg2
    What Klaus1 is attempting to point out is that the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component is a video only component. As such, the audio is compatible only if the audio format in the multiplexed file is already QT compatible with your system configuration. An MPEG file normally consists of MPEG-2 video (handled by the component you purchased) which is multiplexed with MPEG-1 layer audio (MP1, MP2, or MP3), AC3, or PCM audio. If all you want to do is make your file playable with audio in the QT X and/or QT 7 media player, then the easiest approach is to simply convert the non-playing audio compression format to one that is supported. In most cases that would be an MPEG file type containing MPEG-2 video (from the source file) re-multiplexed with MPEG-1, Layer 2 (MP2) audio. This is a very common combination compatible with both Mac and PC platforms.
    Since you already have the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed, all you really need is the free MPEG Streamclip application. Simply open the file in MPEG Streamclip, select the "Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio..." option, and provide a new name for your target file. The Streamclip application will then de-mux the file, convert the audio (probably AC3) to MP2 audio, re-mux the MP2 audio with the original MPEG-2 video and copy it to the newly named MPEG file container. Since the video is not re-compressed by this action, the work flow is reasonably fast. Further, if you have a lot of files to convert, you can even set up a batch list of files to be converted. MPEG Streamclips is a very handy application and highly recommended if you plan to do much trimming/limited editing of MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 content on a Mac.

  • No sound from Quicktime 7

    Trying to watch .avi, shows perfectly - but no sound. i have tried going into applications/utilities/audio setup etc...but still doesn't work.
    Can anyone help this novice mac user?

    First, identify what type of audio encoding is used then look for a component to support it in QuickTime or use an alternative player.
    To identify the file*, video and audio** format of a movie or sound file:
    QuickTime Player:
    Open the file
    Window menu > Show movie info
    Look in the Format: field
    **Note that recently someone posted in the forum that QuickTime Player failed to display any audio information for a file which did play with audio (A52) in VLC.
    MPlayer OSX:
    Show the playlist window if it isn't already visible.
    Drag the movie file into the playlist window.
    Select the movie in the list
    Click the "i" button for info
    VLC:
    Open the movie in VLC
    Window menu > Info
    Click the black triangles so that they point down
    *Note that VLC does not display the file format, only the format of the content (audio and video) within the file. A file ending in .divx for instance, is probably in actuality an avi file but VLC doesn't show that information - MPlayer will and QuickTime Player will - if - QuickTime Player will open the file to begin with.
    QuickTime components, newer info is further down...

  • Record camcorder video using Quicktime.

    Ok. so since I can't import it to imovie I tried to record a new video using quicktime. It would have worked except that quicktime would only recognize the sound input. Here is a video of the issue.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc1Wxjx6OmQ
    The camera I'm using is a Samsung SC-D453. Is there any way to make Quicktime recognize it?
    My other question is. Since this camcorder has a composite-s video out, Can I get a s video to usb adapter that will let me record it to Quicktime? Once it is in .mov IMovie will import it quite nicely.
    thanks

    Ciao
    you could launch the recording application, but it will not
    within your FL app. Then you need to know the file name and
    location since FL cannot browse the file system of the phone.
    Also consider that this type of apps do not work for every
    phone since some phones do not allow to execute other applications.

  • No sound in QuickTime exported videos

    Not sure if this should be posted in iTunes, but being as I used Quicktime to export as .mp4 and .m4v, it seems pertinent to post here.
    So I have a movie that is .mpg. I opened it in QuickTime and exported it as .m4v and then opened it in iTunes. There is no sound from the .m4v when played in iTunes, and no sound when played in QuickTime.
    I tried exporting as .mp4 and the same problem occurs.
    The original has sound in Quicktime and iTunes, but is about 93 MB (so I don't want to add it to an iPod anytime soon at that size).
    Can anyone help?

    Since your files are MPEG-2 format you'll need the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple) and MPEG Streamclip (free).
    Convert your files to DV Stream. This will help preserve quality.
    Open the new .dv file with QuickTime Pro and export. Version 7.0.3 has a new "iPod" preset to use but you can use your own custom settings if you wish.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
    I don't own an iPod so I doubt I'll ever use the feature. It appears that there are many supported file extensions that can be used for videos on an iPod.

  • Problems with Sound in Quicktime Pro

    Im having problems with my Quicktime Pro. Basically whenever i open up a movie file using Quicktime (.mov, .avi, .mpg, etc) the video will play but the audio jumps and sounds like B B B B B, K K K K, D D D D.
    It does this even if i open a Quicktime Movie (.avi or .mov) in another player because its still using the Quicktime codec.
    Ive asked for help on the Quicktime support page because i am a paying customer but they have not replied.
    It is a big problem for me due to my Pro Tools Audio Post work, which i cannot do at the moment bacause i cant even import a movie file because Pro Tools uses the Quicktime codec to import movies. Even software with videos that are in Quicktime format will not work.
    If anyone can make any suggestions on how i might overcome this problem i will be very thankfull if you would reply to this post.
    Thank You

    This is an inherent [feature|problem] with using POP - each client keeps track of which messages have been read or not, and has no idea of what other clients have done.
    The typical solution is to use IMAP rather than POP. IMAP keeps that data on the server, so it's easy for clients to see what's new and what isn't.
    I have no idea whether hotmail support IMAP, though. If they don't then consider changing your setup to a different provider if needs be.

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

    Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
    I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
    I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

    Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Trouble capturing analog video using Quicktime 7 in Yosemite

    I am attempting to use Quicktime 7 Pro under Yosemite to convert old 8 mm or Hi8 analog videotapes to digital .mov files. The tapes are being played through a Sony TRV350 camcorder, which digitizes the analog video, and outputs digital video via the iLink (Firewire) output, which then goes to the Thunderbolt input on my MacBook Pro using an adapter. I start the camcorder and then start QT7 Pro.
    This DOES WORK - for a short while. After taking in 32MB of data or a minute (of a 90 minute video), QT7 stops capturing data with a message:
    "Recording stopped because the format of the source media changed. Media of different formats cannot be recorded to the same file"
    What does this mean and how do I get around it?
    PS: There are not many ways to convert these old tapes. Under Yosemite iMovie will no longer accept video from a Hi8 camcorder. There is some discussion of older iMovie HD but this does not work properly under Yosemite at all.
    Need to digitize these old family tapes - any help will be appreciated

    One tiny wrinkle is that "Save" from Vidi gives an error message but "Save as" works fine. I suspect Vidi may also stop working with the next OS X release.
    Since you did not indicate the specific nature of the error message, I don't know if this is a "fixable" problem or not. The difference between the "Save/Record" and "Save As.../Record As..." options is that the former automatically stored the captured files in a designated location using a default filename. You may wish to check or reset the preference settings here to see they are causing your issue.
    Yes, the conversion of a 90 min tape does give a 21 GB file but I don't care - these family videos are irreplaceable and storage is cheap.
    This sounds about right—i.e, the normal average DV-25/DVCPRO-25 total data rate is on the order of 28.5 Mbps (or about 13 GB/hour) with DV-50/DVCPRO-50 about 57 Mbps and DV-100/HDV about 114 Mbps.
    One more question. Now that I have a DV file, what can I use to convert to a more compressed format that preserves quality? QT7 to save as H.264 is best? Or something else? Toast?
    This normally depends on your goals and personal workflow preferences.
    For instance, if you are editing content (i.e., trimming; merging; adding titles, fades, transitions, effects, etc.), I would normally use the export/share options that are available from within the editing app itself. On the other hand, for simple trims and export/share of files, I would normally use QT X or QT 7 Pro depending on the specific project needs and/or level of manual control desired. For totally edit-free conversions, I would normally use the encoder options now built into Yosemite (or Mavericks) operating system at the Finder level or the free HandBrake app. (The former basically employs a non-anamorphic approach with high/low quality or target device controlled quality options while the latter has a better graphic user interface for anamorphic strategies with more manual control for truly customized exports as needed.)
    EXAMPLE 1: The family normal has Thanksgiving at my brother-in-laws home in PA so my son hosts a second "pseudo-Thanksgiving" dinner on January 1st for the relatives here in NJ. This year I wore a GoPro and within minutes of returning home created the following "trailer" of the gathering (with a total absence of any real planning or forethought) using iMovie to shared the file directly to Mail for posting to others. In this case, I used the video editor to both edit and share a "quickie" video with the rest of our relatives from the East to West Coast. I.e., it seemed the most efficient workflow for the mini-project... SAMPLE VIDEO
    EXAMPLE 2: On the other hand, several yeas ago I was asked to post a "quickie" tutorial showing how to layer audio and video content. As this was a relatively simple project, I used QT 7 Pro for this project. Here is the resulting SAMPLE FILE created while making the tutorial.
    EXAMPLE 3: In cases where the quality of the source file varies drastically—one video being an 80 year old cinema classic and the next a just released blockbuster loaded with special effects—and/or the source files are not "natively" compatible with QT, I prefer HandBrake for its ability to "tweak" settings over a wide range to create "universal" playback files for all mobile devices, local network streaming, and sharing via internet... SAMPLE 1959 TRAILER
    EXAMPLE 4: Lastly, when I simply want to just transcode one or more QT compatible files (for any number of reasons) at the Finder level without having to open a dedicated converter utility, I simply select/highlight the files in the Finder and pass them to the Yosemite/Mavericks operating system for conversion... POCKET RECORDER SAMPLE FILE
    As you can see, you have a myriad of options to choose from depending on your personal preferences, needs, goals, etc. As to H.24/X.264/MPEG-4 AVC, yes I would recommend sticking with any encoder that adheres to the JVT standard since it has become a default Mac system standard and, with different settings, is extremely scaleable with regard to use—i.e., it can handle anything from cellular streaming to Blu-ray or multi-K Hi-Def resolutions. However, for all-purpose use, I stick to High Profile (current mobile, TV, High-Speed Internet compatible) or Main Profile (older mobile device, original TV, lower-speed platform compatible) anamorphic encodes at level 3.1 which nicely covers data rates from less then 100 Kbps up to 14 Mbps or anything most users will ever need.

  • Imovie output using quicktime problem

    I need to place a .mov file that I created with imovie08 on a web page. I exported the move using quicktime. After posting on the webpage all of my PC friends couldn't view the movie. Some could hear the sound but not view the video. I told them that they needed to install quicktime, but they are still having the problem. Is there a better format in which to share the movie which has to be posted on a webpage? Is there an easy solution for these folks - most aren't very computer savvy.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Thanks for your reply. Actually I can't post a link - the subject matter is somewhat confidential - it is a police training video for reserve recruits in how to write traffic citations. The content probably isn't all that confidential but it would be improper for it to get out into the web. The problem you mentioned is what I thought it would be. I can borrow a PC and see what results I get with it.
    The real problem is that 99.5% of the people who are suppose to be watching it are probably running PCs.
