No support for text-anchor

According to the documentation, Mars Project doesn't support
some SVG's commands, like "text-anchor". So, how can we align text
labels to the center when we need to?, you guys won't denay this is
essential, right?

I agree that your font method is legal. What I'm driving at
is that your technically legal use of the SVG font structures seems
to destroy the normally used font selection mechanisms in SVG.
From my point of view:
#1-SVG embedded fonts are impractical for some situations due
to file size.
#2-It seems likely that we will need to embed a standard font
file anyway for many situations, and it isn't practical to embed an
open-type font and an SVG font.
#3-PDF open type font embedding is meaningless if the SVG is
taken out of the Mars file.
#4-If PDF open type font embedding is used, it breaks the
normal font-selection mechanism of SVG since the "font-family"
attribute is now overloaded for an alternate use.
Therefore:
#1-We must have open-type font embedding for Mars.
#2-We must have standard SVG font selection available for
non-Mars SVG.
#3-We cannot have both at the same time.
The original problem is with the SVG spec. Font-family should
never have been overloaded to either point to a local
font-definition, or to be used as a system font selector. In normal
SVG, this isn't much of a problem since using <svg:font-face-uri
xlink:href="/fonts/font"/> to point to an SVG font seems to be
pretty rare -- It's the standard M.O. for PDF though.
The only way your font mechanism "breaks standard practice"
is that the referenced font definition is local to the Mars package
and isn't meaningful if the SVG file is stand-alone. The
<svg:font-face-uri /> tag seems to trump every other font
selection mechanism. In the Adobe SVG viewer that I've been
experimenting with, if you reference a non-existent font file, no
font gets selected at all; no text gets printed at all. There's no
way to fall back from such a failed, specific font selection.
It may be that we can just choke down the extra file size and
use only SVG font embedding. The documentation seems to be of two
minds as to whether SVG fonts will be supported, however. Besides
which, while zipped SVG fonts seem to be twice as big as their
open-type counterparts, we must embed the SVG font on each page.
So, SVG fonts don't really mean 2X(open-type font size); they mean
2XPAGE_COUNT(open-type font size)...
I consider [<text x="100" y="100" font-family="Poor
Richard" font-size="18">Line in Poor Richard</text>] to be
a "normal" method of font selection.

  • Default locale support for texts datasources

    Hi,
I faced with problem - does BW support default locales ?
I have some texts datasources which contain some list of entries for default locale. The question is - what value of LANGU field I should setup for  these entries in order to BW recognize them as for default locales ?
Thanks. I will be apprecated for any related info.
    Fiodar.

    Hi Fiodar,
well I am not sure about your requirement, but it sounds like you want to add a default value to langu in case the source system doesn't deliver it.
If this is the case, create a update routine in your transfer rules for 0langu. In the routine add the following coding:
if tran_structure-spras is initial. "no language specified
usually the R/3-field is called spras
      result = sy-langu. "or a literal like 'EN' ...
    else.
pass the given language to the result of the routine.
      result = tran_structure-spras.
    endif.
    That's it.
In case your datasource doesn't even deliver a field for the language, you can just set a constant value to 0langu in your transfer rules.
    regards
    Siggi

  • No support for text files attached in emails

I was shocked to discover that a simple RTF (Rich Text File) is not supported by iPhone. I was sent a small attachment as a text file and was unable to open it. Surely something as simple as a text file attachment should be easy to display.
Come on Apple, lets get working on version 1.1

  • Online support for text field triggers

    hi everyone.....
is there an online documentation for the various kinds of triggers that exist for a text field/checkbox/etc.. ?
If so, where can you find it?
    thanks

    Hi
I checked the file which was mentioned in link u mentioned. that is only a setup file where a particular color is assigned.
I tried to use that in similar way but it is not acceptable.
    My question is still unanswered.

  • Can you lock cross-reference or text anchor characters.

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a document which multiple people can edit and the cross-referencing has been a great tool for some things. However, I am scared that many of the references will get broken as these other people edit the text.
My Question: Is there any way to lock hidden characters like these so that they don't get accidently deleted? I would like to know if this can be done for text anchors too!
If this can't be done, please let me know!!!!

As far as I know, the answer would be no. If text is editable, any anchors or markers contained in the text are able to be deleted.

  • Greek Language support for C1-01

I've just bought a C1-01 over the internet and it turns out that there is no Greek language support for texting.
Is there anyway I can resolve this?
    Suggestions please
    Solved!

You have to visit your nearest nokia care point. They will be able to add the greek language in your phone. But note that you will have to pay for this (I think it's about 15euros).

  • Multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms

multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

Can Apple comment on their lack of support for burning CD-TEXT?
I've been getting the runaround from the support people. They said to resolve my issue check out the following kb articles. The articles were aimed at giving me more information about ID3 tags and formats that I care about. I just want my burnt cd's to work in my CD-TEXT capable cd player.
I've done this using alternate software packages so I know my hardware supports it. I'm really looking for a complete solution for myself (techie) and my wife (non-Techie) to use and make us both happy. I have to admit, this really bothers me.

  • Unicode support for QT text tracks?

Does Quicktime NOT support unicode text? Is it not possible to create a text track with Chinese, Korean or other subtitles? I have a unicode file, but the text gets garbled when I try to open it in QT Pro. I have tried the language descriptor {language:23}, but no luck, and putting {textencoding:256} does not help either. That is for UTF-16, but it does not display correctly. There does not seem to be a descriptor for UTF-8. I tried {textencoding:64} but no luck either.

  • MultiLanguage support for Oracle Text

    Hi,
We are providing multi language support in our application. So, we are using the NVarchar datatype. And we want to provide the search option for that text. So if i tried to create an index on that column it is giving the error and unable to create the index on that column. Same if tried to create an index on Char and Varchar datatypes it was successfully created the index on those columns and search is working fine.
But according to our requirements, we should provide the multi language support in our application.
Please suggest me how to create indexes on NVarchar datatype and providing the oracle text search features on that datatype.
    Waiting for your favourble reply.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Anil.

No place in the standard docs very well. There was a note I found on it at one point, but I can't find the number at the moment. 10g new features for Text note has some info on it though. I'll look again tomorrow.
I did a lot of research on the world_lexer a few months back (wrote some info on IR & Oracle Text our newest Oracle Press book), and got some good info from the product team. One of the chapters covering Text will be made available for free and there is a diagram in there of how the world_lexer processes text. I'll post the link to the forum when it is available.
Since it doesn't require a language column, it attempts to auto-recognize the text...but not really the language. More like...the type of text it is. White-space delimited languages like English or Spanish are easy to break into tokens. Japanese & Korean are another story...no white-space delimiter. Arabic is yet another story. Those are essentially the buckets that text is thrown into for breaking into tokens when using the world_lexer.
So, where does German fall? It will be broken up similar to English. But what about the special features (like alternate spelling) that are available? Nope - sorry. It doesn't know German from French. With the multi_lexer you defined sub-lexers and told Text which records were German or French. This means that you can use more of the lang features with it. The world_lexer is much easier to implement and maintain, but it is a trade-off.
Hope that defines it a little better.

  • IBooks support for auxiliary content and linking?

I have a couple of questions for the iPad/iBooks owners out there that I hope can answer them for me. I'm in Canada, so I won't be getting an iPad for at least another month or more (also waiting for the 3G), and I don't have any readily available access to one to try for myself.
    1) This is a bit technical, but I'll just come right out and ask it. How is iBooks support for auxiliary content (non-linear content documents, in ePub parlance)? Does it do anything special with it (pop-ups, tooltips, side bars, slide-out panels, etc...), or does it just ignore it and lump it in with the rest of the "real" content?
From a cursory glance, it looks like Microsoft has done something similar with their proprietary .LIT ebooks (which are apparently based roughly on the same specs as ePub, i.e. XHTML and CSS). But I get the feeling this functionality has gone the way of multi-angle DVDs, which is to say no one bothers with it.
    2) And my next question comes from having tried various ePub readers on the iPhone. None, but Stanza seem to even get this remotely correct (some completely ignore them, some render them but don't do anything with them, and one attempts to do something with them but spits out errors). I have an ePub that uses footnotes heavily (in the dead-tree version they're footnotes, in the ePub they're essentially endnotes). The ePub in question doesn't have chapters, but it has been broken up into multiple chunks (multiple XHTML content documents behind the scenes). The footnotes are accomplished by linking (and back-linking) a la standard HTML hrefs between said chunks. I assume iBooks is Webkit-based and this isn't a problem at all (i.e. it's just like using a web browser in that regard)? Also, am I correct that there's no "back" button/function except in the TOC?
    3) Based on all the PR and guided-tours, etc..., I presume iBooks strictly conforms to a paginated view? There's no scrolling layout/view, and by extension a way to do auto-scrolling?
    4) How does text-to-speech work? Will it read the whole book, or does it only read, for instance, your current selection?
    Thanks!

It isn't handled by the reader at all. It is handled by the ePUB generating application. Non-linear content, if included, is usually ordered as found, i.e., it uses a left-most, top-to-bottom ordering algorithm. This usually means it ends up at the end unless aligned to the left edge of the source document above the inline content or interspersed between other non-linear and linear segments if also included. To ensure content displays with associated text, it is normally anchored, inline, just before or just after the desired text. Some generating apps indicate an ability to perform left/right alignments with text wrapping around inline images but I have yet to personally try this.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, Jon, but I barely understand anything you wrote just then. I've only been playing with ePubs for the last several days, so I still have a very limited understanding of the specs, and have only a small collection of samples (which are very simply constructed), so I don't know the full breadth of what's possible in ePub. For instance, in my example ePub, one content document ends at the end of a paragraph, and the next document begins at the start of the next paragraph.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my current understanding of "content documents" are that they're essentially XHTML pages, and the only reason they're broken up inside the container is either for semantic reasons, to reduce initial load times, or to support older readers. And basically a reader will load them sequentially when it comes time to display them (i.e. next chapter, via a link, etc...), assuming in the 'spine' section they're listed as being linear (either explicitly or by default).
The only examples I've seen where a particular 'itemref' has had its 'linear' attribute set to 'no' are things like covers and footnote sections (I believe the IDPF also uses the example of an answerkey in a textbook). I guess it's a two-fold question. I'm having a hard time envisioning what other elements in a book one would want to mark as non-linear. I guess things like a glossary, a table of illustrations, an index, etc... (i.e. stuff that's important to the book, but you wouldn't want to read linearly with the actual content of the book). I should point out I write Windows apps for a living, and have no understanding of how the publishing industry works, or what goes into the making, designing, or laying out a book.
And second, it seems the specs leave it completely up to the reading device to determine what it wants to do with these non-linear documents. Hence, why I asked how iBooks handles them.
You lost me when you started talking about edges, anchoring, and wrapping. To me, that sounds more like formatting decisions one would have to make inside an XHTML document. But I'm always open to being schooled on a subject.
I have an ePub that uses footnotes heavily (in the dead-tree version they're footnotes, in the ePub they're essentially endnotes).
I believe this is essentially correct. Since ePUB files have no defined pages, the footnotes become endnotes the the specific generating application determining if they display at the end of the book or at the end of the chapter. E.g., Since Adobe InDesign requires segments (cover page, title page, chapters, etc.) be generated as independent documents with are later assembled as a "book," I believe its "endnotes" automatically display at the end of the individual documents which make up the book while other applications use inline tags to break up a single "book" document into independent XHTML documents but place all "endnotes" at the end of the "book" rather than within each XHTML document created from the tagged segment where found in the main source document.
From what I've seen in the specs, it makes sense that, with the way the specs are at this time, the onus is on the generator to figure out how to use and where to put the footnotes. Without a standard way of defining them, there's no way for a reader device to know what it's looking at is a footnote or not.
I was just hoping in my heart of hearts that Apple had somehow solved the problem. After all, they were the ones throwing the word "magical" around when describing the iPad.
As a side note, would you know if iBooks properly supports the page-break-before and page-break-after CSS styles?
Based on all the PR and guided-tours, etc..., I presume iBooks strictly conforms to a paginated view? There's no scrolling layout/view, and by extension a way to do auto-scrolling?
I've not found a way to scroll but then I prefer paging through the document with a tap than continuously "swiping" and so have not looked all that hard.
Yeah, not a dealbreaker by any means. Just something I've started playing with on my iPhone reader, and have kinda started to enjoy. But I'll make sure not to get too comfortable with it now.
As for the text-to-speech (which I wouldn't use anyway), I guess it's using the VoiceOver APIs that Apple includes in the SDK(?), and, no, it won't automatically read a whole book for you, but it will read at most a page at a time. Apparently, this is their work-around for the same grief that Amazon got with the Kindle's speech feature.
