Noisy line,Call Divert activated without request.E...

For some months I experienced severe crackling on line but BT advised "No fault on line".I thought my handset might be faulty so have used other (new)handsets, without success. Tried online diagnostic tests to no avail.I do have a phone/broadband "splitter" but phone faults are the same whether or not phone is connected to main socket via splitter.
In the last week,I have been unable to make or receive calls--line is dead(no dialling tone or ring-tone) and incoming callers receive the automated BT 1571 answerphone message. My investigations suggest that "call divert" option has been selected but *I* have had no reason to do this and ,in any event, I understand that a
PIN number is required to activate/deactivate this facility.So---who has activated the "divert"? Not me
In desperation, and fully aware of the risk of call-out charge,I have arranged an engineer's appointment on two separate occasions. On neither day did the engineer turn up within the agreed time-scale but on each occasion BT have then sent me an automated e-mail message saying that the engineer turned up at the agreed time but could not gain access. This is preposterous(!) as on both days I or my wife "kept watch"  at our front window continuously for the 5 hour slot. We were grossly inconvenienced on both occasions.
I am now about to start a complaints procedure via BT, Ofcom,Watchdog etc but, before I do, I would welcome any advice from forum members and, hopefully, anyone at BT who is caring enough to suggest a prompt solution
before I have to cancel my account with them

I am currently experiencing very similar problems to GeordieGeoff.
For weeks we have had a very noisy line and rung BT only to be advised by the BT automated service that there is no fault on the line and to be warned that I would be charged £127 if I insisted on a visit and it was my equipment to blame.
We blamed our digital cordless phone  and hunted for the receipt as it was less than a year old havng bought a new phone we plugged it in to find the same problem I attempted to contact BT via their e-mail contact however every time I tried to send the e-mail asking for assistance the e-mail would not send and kept saying I had entered an invalid e-mail address.
Being unable to get e-mail support on Mon 9th August I rang BT and took the risk and booked an engineer for the following day between 8-1pm. I then received a mobile phone message which said they had found a fault but it was outside the property and therefore they would not need to enter. On the afternoon of the day the engineer had been booked he turned up saying he had just been sent ut to check my line he knew nothing about me having been told there was no need to be in and said he definatly needed to check the line in the house. (good thing we were in eh)
Having checked the line he said there was a fault under the pavement and contractors would have to dig up the pavement before the line could be repaired but he had no idea of timescale. I rang BT as I currently have no phone and very intermittent broadband and asked them to divert my house calls to my mobile they agreed to do this and call me after 6pm to advise on timescale of repair. You guessed it no phone call!!
Yesterday morning I spotted a BT engineer in our road so went and asked him about the repair he said he was a tracking engineer and was only there to identify where needed digging up. He said I should be notified by BT of timescale and I told him I had little faith as they had not rung me the day before when they promised. However later I received a text which said "we need longer to repair your line" well I'm sorry but I could have told them that !
To date (friday ) we have not had the pavement dug up and therefore have no phone and very limited broadband I have also just been told by my daughter that my phone is not diverting to my mobile I have also received several very irritating text messages telling me it will tke longer to repair my phone !!
any thoughts ?
yours fed up Teresa

  • Noisy line after infinity activated

Hi, I had infinity installed & activated whilst I was away on holiday. On my return I picked up my phone to make a phone call and the line was very noisy (it was clear before infinity activated, on our old broadband).
I have plugged my phone into the socket directly and the line is clear. It is only when I plug an ADSL filter in that the line is noisy, with or without the modem plugged in. I have tried three different phones, including a brand new BT phone, 6 ADSL filters and 1 filtered face plate, but am still getting a very noisy unusable line.
I contacted 151 and they are insisting that there is not a fault on my line and have told me that I may have a charge of £129.99 if my home equipment is faulty although I cannot see how 3 phones and 7 filters can all be faulty! It is only since infinity activated that I have had this problem.I have an engineer booked for tomorrow (Thursday), but just wondered if anyone has any ideas what this could be. Thanks

The faceplate should have been replaced with a VDSL filter when Infinity was installed.  You shouldn't need any filters if you have a new faceplate with the DSL and telephone sockets.
    Do you have extensions?
if you get infinity 1 then for most it is self install and there is no SSFP just filters same as adsl hence why I asked if infinity 1 or 2
As I was responding to the OP, you already did
I was just showing that just because you have infinity installed you need not necessarily have had a new filtered faceplate fitted

  • 6310 : Call Divert - 'Request not Completed'

I have a Nokia 6310 and wish to set up a call divert.
I follow the instructions in the manual, setting the delay, etc, but when I get to select Activate I am given a error message of 'Request not Completed'.
    What is causing this?

If you're on a Pay & Go sim, some networks only allow you to divert to Voicemail - and it won't allow diverts to other mobiles/landlines.

  • Call divert request not completed!

I have Nokia X2-02 and on the first SIM whenever I try to activate call divert facility to my other number that is in my Nokia Lumia ,a message pops up saying "Request not completed"..tried restarting my phone, called the operator but they say there's nothing they could do,phone needs to be fixed.

Call divert is a network function. It sound to me they do not support this (for your SIM/contract).

  • Problem with call forwarding and "call divert"

I have been receiving calls lately and a dialogue box pops up and says "fowarded call" with a button that says "dismiss" - I'm not sure why or how to disable this. in my settings I have call forwarding turned off. Also when I make calls I sometimes see messages saying something about call forwarding active or active diverts. Again I have call forwarding turned off and I see no settings for divert. How can I fix this?
    Thanks.

i am having a similar problem.  I have a Pearl 8100 with T-Mobile.  I've had it for almost two years (since Jan. '07).  About four weeks ago, this problem started.  I have a landline office phone through AT&T, and when I leave the office, I forward this land line to my Pearl.  When someone calls my office after hours, on nights and weekends, the problem is that instead of the person's name and phone number showing up on my caller ID, my Pearl shows that I am calling myself from my own cell phone!  I don't get "Private Number" like you get, the caller ID shows that I am calling myself!
I've spent six or seven hours with T-Mobile tech support, with five different tech people over a period of several days and several phone calls, and they can't figure it out; their final and "best" answer is that it's a blackberry problem, that the issue has been addressed and identified as a "known issue" and a "trouble ticket" has been created.  I contacted RIM and they directed me to their archived troubleshooting and to this forum, so I still don't have an answer.  And T-M had no answer when I told them that this feature worked just fine from Jan. '07 through Aug. '08.  T-Mobile offered to put me into a different device, the T-Mobile wing, which by fair assessment, looks like a piece of junk, and it's window's mobile, which is even worse.  I rejected this option.
I'm hoping someone can solve this.  One friend of mine thought that it's a network issue, any issue with caller ID would be with the network, not the phone or its software...this makes some sense to me...and one of the techs at TM thought that this could be the issue as well.  As T-M upgrades its networks to 3G, these bugs are popping out. who knows, I'm sticking with this Pearl and 8100 for a little while longer, b/c I am waiting to see if an answer shows up somewhere on one of the forums, but I hate not knowing who's calling before I answer the phone!

  • Parental controls suddenly activated - without us ...

    Hi there,
BT parental controls have suddenly been activated without us asking for it. I noticed it first when trying to access Facebook. I then found out my own website is being blocked (despite no suspicious content!) and as a result also my e-mail. That's a massive problem as I work from home and need my e-mail. I phoned BT last night (Sunday) the call centre told me we'd get a call back today. We didn't. I phoned again tonight and the call centre assured me I'd get a call back tomorrow. Really?
I'm loosing money by not being able to access my e-mail. How do I stop this?
When logging into "My BT" the extra's says: "Parental Controls is being activated on your account and will be available in the next 24 hours. Please log in again later to manage your account."
It's been saying that for at least 48 hours. I cannot change the settings.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

  • Cancelling call divert

Each time I try to cancel call divert by dialling #21# I get a message saying 'sorry, the service requested is not available' !!!  Any ideas what I do now as I am desperate to cancel call divert.  Thanks for any help

that is the correct way to take a divert off... if you put on the divert this should work, however if it was put on by 151 you may have to give them a call... also if you are using a feature line have you tried # 121 #

  • Hard to trace noisy line

I'm trying to resolve an intermittent noisy line on my aunts phone without success.
I was made aware of it last week but its been going on for weeks. The line ranges from crystal clear to virtually inaudible at no set interval.
I carried out all the home user tests but was still getting the problem on the BT test socket with two different phones.
I completed the on-line fault test which came back clear so rang BT faults on 151.
The man on the other end said that he could hear the noise aswell coming and going. He ran another line test that also was clear so he said the line would be tested for 24hours and would get back to me.
He never rang back, so i contacted him and he said that the line was fault free but could send an engineer around if i wanted.
I booked it up and the engineer came on Tuesday, he plugged his test meter into the test socket and the the noise was present. He went outside for a bit and came back and told us that he thinks that the fault was in a flooded manhole and he had re-crimped the cables, done several line test and everything was ok. He left and within 15 minutes it was terrible again.
I rang BT faults 151 again and explained what had just happened and they said it will be passed to an advanced team and they will contact us shortly. Later that day we got confirmation somebody would be with us the next day.
An engineer came today and done another line test that was clear. Spent some time tracing the cable for signs of damage and done several more line tests that were all clear. The noise never presented itself the whole time so with nothing else he could do, he left, and within the hour the line was noisy again.
I havent reported back to BT faults because i can see a pattern already of just sending out another engineer to do a line test.
My elderly aunt relies heavily on this phone for alot more than social calls and it is causing her stress that she cannot be confident it will work when needed.
Is there a way to break this loop and to get this fixed?
    Thank you.

sorry but just need to keep at it and get another engineer - line may well be noisy next time
intermittent faults are obviously the hardest to trace and fix

  • HOW TO DELETE PHONE NO. RECORD IN CALL DIVERT

Hi! Please help me, I have recently activated a call divert if the phone is not answered. My problem is, when I deactivate this function. The record of the phone number that I have used is still appearing, how do I delete this record?

Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Call divert > Voice calls > If not answered > Activate > To voice mailbox.
Most networks don't allow you to deactivate altogether the call divert is no answer, so setting it to divert to your voice mailbox just puts things back to their defaults.

  • IPhone 5 activation without SIM - and absolutely need to set the phone before acquiring SIM

I bought the phone from the Apple Store a few days ago and I'm leaving for Europe in a few days for 4 months. I do not intend to change my existing "simple" phone service with Telus (Samsung Rugged II) right now before leaving, I intend to buy the service in Europe. The place I'll spend most time has only 3 G and I know that the LTE with my phone has Band 4 and 7 and can' work on European LTE's and that's the reason I decided to buy Americas phone as I will probably change my existing service with Telus when I return back. I want activate my iPhone and set my phone using wifi before I leave for Europe (mid June). I have the Apple store valid account (I have iPad) and I have the Apple store receipt for the unlocked iPhone. When I return I may decide to change my existing cell contract but that may be 6 months down the line and, as I paid for the phone and the phone is unlocked ( I did not get any nano SIM in the package), I need to get through the activation without SIM. ------- Can Apple store setup service do the activation for me -------?

    Thx Tim,
I'm not using the phone that much in Canada, Ipad I have has cell connection as well and that's quite OK in NA plus the regular (unlocked) cell and when I go outdoors, I need Rugged waterproof and shockproof device, plus the Magellan GPS. It's only in Europe I want to carry small device I can use Skype, email, Internet browsing plus my unlocked Samsung Rugged ... That's the reason I need iPhone activate and set up ahead of my trip ... And I don't want to pay for service here when I will not use it for some time (perhaps never on the regular basis, just travels).
I believe that they want to confirm your identity and prevent theft but my registration through wifi and my Apple id should be sufficient together with receipt ...

  • Hello, I have been unable to activate my new iphone 6. When I call the activation phone number it just says terms and conditions have been accepted on this account. Please help.

I have been unable to activate my new iphone 6. When I call the activation phone number it just says terms and conditions have been accepted on this account. Please help.

Same thing here. I love how they include this nice and easy to follow guide in the box and the KEY step for activation (the phone call) is a total fail. To verizon: the automated just says Terms and Conditions have been accepted for this number. Press 1 to enter another phone number in the order. Well, I HAD NO other phone number in my order. The message gives no other options. She repeats the same line 3 more times and after the 3rd time, it says please hold while we transfer you, call may be monitored etc. Guess what, its 2 am ET and customer service is closed?
Do you guys expect thousands of iphone customers to speak to a CSR just to activate? Why not just let us do it online? I have activated plenty of phones even LTE phones, online. Now I'm going to have to compete with the other 30,000 people who ran into this same problem overnight tomorrow on the phone....

  • N85 call divert

I have a N85 and use call divert a great deal. Is there a way of moving call divert to the main menu screen of the N85?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You could find out from your operator what the code is to activate and deactivate Call Diversion. Then, you could set up two contacts, one for Activating the diversion, and another to deactivate. Assign a Nickname to each contact, and use Voice Dialling with the associated Nickname to dial the Call Diversion Code.
For example, in Australia, **21*[DestinationNumber]#[SEND] is the Call Diversion GSM code. See this link (or search for GSM Call Diversion Codes) for sample codes:
    http://www.hotel.com.au/GSM-Mobile-Hash-Codes.asp
Hope this helps - haven't tried it, but it should work. Let everyone know how you go!!!

  • C6 call divert issues

Hello, earlier today I was on the phone to my friend, my dad came home later on saying he had been trying to ring me, whilst I had been on the phone to my friend I had no incoming call things, I tried to sort it out, I went on settings, calling, call divert, voice calls and clicked If Busy, I clicked deactivate but it just came up 'Request not complete' any ideas what I have to do?
    Thanks

Try phoning your network before you reset your phone because your phone it's not the one responsible for diverting calls, your network is. The phone just sends a request for the calls to be diverted. A problem with the network caused the message you got back.
