Notepad problem in palm tx

all of a sudden, my notepad wants to take every stroke i make as a graffiti letter.  i just want to do freehand letters and diagrams.  it takes every slight pressure shift as a "dot" beginning of a graffiti stroke, and then if it doesn't recognize the character, the mark vanishes.
it didn't used to do this, is it just getting old and cranky (like me) or have i accidentally changed a setting?  how can i change it back to its old accomodating self?
thanks, kj

Hi, do you have Grafitti Anywhere turned On ?
This is the third icon from the right on the StatusBar (bottom bar) and should be turned Off when using Notepad.
If you use a Screen Protector.
Check that it is not stuck between the screen and the frame.
If it is pushing down on the screen then this will cause your device to respond to that false 'Tap'
Best is take the Screen Protector off to test properly.
Also, you may have some 'dirt' trapped between the screen and the frame.
Take a piece of stiff paper (business card works) and drag it between the screen and the frame and see if any dirt etc comes out.
Do not use too much force, just drag.
Soft Reset and go to Prefs and Calibrate the Touchscreen.

  • Problems installing PALM Desktop on XP

I recently purchased a PALM TX to replace a Tungston T.  After a few minor problems it installed on my work laptop successfully.  Then I tried to install it on my home desktop PC (XP Home) and have run into significant problems.  By following the Start Here guide I did plug in my TX before I loaded the software but the system gave me "unrecognized USB device" constantly.  I started the installation of Desktop but after a few screens (download far from complete) it defaulted to a reboot (I tried this twice).  I disconnected the TX and then restarted the installation and it went through the proper sequence.  When I got to the 'Sync device' step, I plugged in the TX and the "unrecognized USB device" came up again and when I hit the "sync" button nothing happened the it timed out.  Further, I noticed that the Hot Sync icon did not install in the lower right hand of the screen as it was supposed to.
I've uninstalled the software and tried rebooting, reinstalling and even tried installing from the downloads on the PALM page including an option to "repair" installation problems.  Nothing works.  And of course there's nothing on the PALM page about installation problems or even a way to email the problem to PALM support.
Is there any way to get this figured out?

Well, the OS is XP Home.  OK so here's the solution I guess... After trying various scenarios that didn't work, I decided just not to bother trying to get the new Palm Desktop to work with my TX.  So I disconnected the sync cable.  It was then that I noticed that I had plugged in the new sync cable in the USB port that my old cradle used.  That USB was one that came with my system which is about 4 or 5 years old (I think it's called USB 1 technology).  However, I also have a newer USB 2 card in my system so I decided to give that a try...and it worked.  The system recognized the new TX right away and everything worked fine after that.  So I guess the lesson learned here is that the newer Palm's require the newer USB technology although I didn't see that in any of the documentation.
And thanks to those that tried to help me with this problem.  It's really appreciated.

    1. dont install the software just yet please follow
2.let palm desktop thru thye firewall program and make an exception for it there.
    3. disable and antivirus software as it sees palm as a threat.
4.now install palm desktop i used my old version palm desktop 4.0 BUT DONT INSTALL THE PROGRAM IN PROGRAM FILES try somewhere else like documents( this i read on another site where someone tried it but failed there).
5.now turn on your palm pda and open up hotsync page, up in the upper left screen corner touch the hotsync tab and down should come a sub menu, form here you need to set up all of your conduits, modem sync preferencesmconnection setup etc make sure they are set for how you will be hotsyncing.
6.now open up the desktop program and on your toolbar you should see the hotsync icon click on this and set  set the options here.
7.now you should be able to hotsync(communicate) from the pda to the computer .
Hope this helps , sorry that some one like me had to figure it out by staying up late until i got it .
MICROSOFT apparently doesnt care if you fix it that way you bite the bullet and buy a windows mobile device.
and PALM i think about the same
too bad if you think about all the millions of these devices out there they are pissing alot of people off and losing sales from it.

  • Screen Resolution Problems With Palm Desktop

I'm running Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and have this problem of it changing my resolution to 640x480 on my laptop running Win 7 whenever I call it up.  How can I keep it at the recommended 1280x800 when I call up Palm desktop?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

You right-click the Palm Desktop, select "Properties," click the "Compatibility" tab, and check the settings. (there is a lower-resolution setting there)
Compatibility mode is a way to restore functionality to older applications written for older versions of Windows, such as this game I once played. It wouldn't work on my Vista PC until i enabled compatibility mode, which restored semi-functionality. (it still crashed a lot)

  • Problems with Palm Desktop 6.2

I install Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager (Windows) in my palm Tx ( I working with windows vista in my pc), after when it is working and I want to enter to the applications this one resetting mi system operation.
    please help me.

Palm Desktop 6.2 has been nothing but a HEADACHE. I do not recommend it -- at least not for WinXP and Zire or Treo. It doesn't do anything new anyway, and it may be supported by Access, which is some other company, not Palm.
    Problems I had:
    -- Cannot Hotsync
-- Corrupted files on Zire, which required full reset
Fortunately I was able to download Palm Desktop 4.2 (still available) and re-install. I had backups to repair files, but all categories were forgotten, so a huge headache.

  • Problem installing Palm 4.0 desktop software

I am running into errors when I attempt to install the Palm Desktop 4.0 software so that we can sync our (old) Handspring Visor handheld to our (new) Mac. I downloaded the most recent version of the Desktop (for the Visor) from the Palm website -- the installation preceeds until near the end when is hangs at installing file 746 out of 791 (or thereabouts) with the (helpfull) message of 'Installation did not complete successfully. Do you want to reinstall the software or quit?' Sometimes it hangs at a different file -- but the error message is the same. Help!
    MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No, that error message shouldn't be a problem.
If I recall correctly, Palm Desktop has an Updates folder inside the Palm application folder that will try to install a Palm OS update.  Your Visor is incompatible with the update that is trying to be installed and, cancels out.
To stop Palm Desktop from trying to install the update each time you perform a HotSync, check for and rename the Updates folder in the Palm application folder.
In Mac OS X, go to:
/applications/palm and then rename the Updates folder to something like Updates.Old.

Hello Walter and welcome to the Palm forums.
For such a new Mac, I'm fairly certain, you are going to have to use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D or later (I believe that Rev D is the latest) for Mac OS X.  You can download Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D for Mac OS from the Palm website.  You may need to pick a newer Palm handheld to gain access to the download link.  If that is the case, pick the Tungsten T5, it should require Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D.

  • Problem installing Palm desktop... Please help!

I have windows XP home ed. and am trying to install the palm software that came with my new tungsten E2.  I also installed it on our main cpu first, which has winows Vista.  It installed fine on the "big" cpu, but not on my laptop.  The only problem with it on the big cpu is that the quick install doesn't work.  It gives me an error message and then takes me back to desktop manager.
For my laptop, I thought it may have been installed wrong.  I tried to remove program from control panel, but that won't even work.  It says error 1316, a network error has occured while attempting to read the file windows installer palmone.  then says fatal error during instalation.
Can I only put this on 1 cpu?  Is it interferring with my blackberry manager already on my laptop?

Have recently upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 and now I can't sync or remove the Palm software.
Everything I try I keep getting a message that COM1 is in use.
I have a Windows Home Premier 64 bit system. I know this isn't compatable with this palm but have an IR adapter I would like to transfer the information to the computer with if only I can get COM1 open.
Any help and advice gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance

  • SERIOUS PROBLEM Synching Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) with Companion Link OS USB -- NEED HELP!!

I am having serious problems with Companion Link OS USB synching with Palm Desktop 4.2 via USB on my Verizon Palm Pre.
The Verizon phone is my second Palm Pre.  (The original Palm Pre which came from Germany worked perfectly with Companion Link).
The Verizon Palm Pre is a Palm Pre Plus.
As noted I utilize Palm Desktop software Version 4.2.0 on my computer.
I started out with Companion Link software Version 3.0 Build 3096  -- and have worked my way up to Version 4.0 Build 4008 over the last few months, and have spend hundreds of hours trying to solve the synchronization issue described in detail below.
The Companion Link software is configured to ONLY synch one way
FROM my Palm Desktop on my computer to the phone via USB
(I don’t want to put my contacts and calendar on the web, NOR do I like the way Google contacts works, even if I DID want to).
When I synch the Palm Desktop to the Palm Pre the following occurs:
    The Calendar synchs fine.
The contacts do NOT synch properly.
I have 1,500+ contacts in my Palm Desktop.
For some inexplicable reason, during the synch process the approximately 1,200+ of my contacts are compiled under ONE contact listing (John Davis). The icon by the contact shows that TWO contacts are linked under John Davis, however when I click on the icon to see who is linked under John Davis, NO contacts appear.  But I have the option to link additional contacts under John Davis if desired (AS IF!!).
So, 1,200 of my contacts do NOT appear in the contact list.  If I want to call my husband, and type in Bruce, NOTHING comes up.  BUT if I type in his phone number, the listing for John Davis comes up and shows me all the numbers that legitimately belong to my husband.  Ditto my friend Susan, etc for the other 1,200 contacts buried under the contact listing for John Davis on the phone.
SO, if any of these 1,200+ people, call me or text message me, my phone tells me I have a call or a text from John Davis.
I cannot look up my contacts to call them or text them because the contacts do not actually APPEAR under John Davis (If the phone were just linking them and SHOWED them, I could manually de-link them).
FURTHER, when I get a text message from anyone who is compiled under John Davis, the text message is truncated.  I can see the notification that I got a text message from John Davis, and I can see the first few words in the notification area, but if I open the text message, it appears to be blank (this only happens after synching Companion Link – before linking Companion Link all text messages are fine.  AND, if I get a text message from one of the 300 or so contacts that actually synch into my phone correctly, the text messages are perfectly fine and work normally.
I have worked with BOTH the Companion Link technical support people AND the Palm technical support people extensively in an effort to solve this problem.
I have done Full Secure Erases and started over trying to get the phone to synch more than 35 times at this point.
I have tried synching from different computers
I have had Palm replace the phone TWICE (so this is actually my third Verizon Palm Pre Plus).
I have run Web OS Doctor
    Nothing helps.
Every time the phone does exactly the same thing described above.
When I synch the phone it tells me:
Web OS:     Added             1543/1543    Contacts to the phone
                PC:              Updated          1232/1232     Contacts
(The 1232 contacts being updated are the 1232 that are compiled under the one contact listing of course).
Needless to say, Companion Link says it is the phone.
Palm says it is the Companion Link third party software.
Since it is the same 1,200+ contacts every time, I have had both Palm and Companion Link examine my contact database to see if they could identify anything amok about these 1,200+ contacts, but there doesn’t appear to be any difference between those contacts and the 300 or so that synch into the phone properly.
Companion Link has told me variously that:
    -  This is a very rare Synergy issue and that I must turn off the Synergy feature on the phone (would that this could be done per Palm it can NOT be done).
    -  Only TWO people have ever had this issue (me and someone else unnamed);
    -  That this is a common problem with the Palm Pre, but Companion Link works fine with every other phone
    -  I e-mailed them my contact list and they SWORE to me that they were unable to duplicate my problem on their computers.  (I don’t believe this)
    -  AND has most recently told me that there is nothing more they can do for me, that I will have to find a solution myself.
Palm has said that there is nothing they can do for me if third party software doesn’t work properly with the phone.
This does appear to be the Synergy feature run amok.  But how to correct it???????
I love the Palm Pre.  I love my Palm Desktop 4.2 software.
If I can’t get this fixed shortly, I guess I’m going to have to move back to a Treo 680.
Does anyone out there please, please, please have a solution or a suggestion that will help?
Post relates to: Pre Plus p101vzw (Verizon)

    Hello,
I am almost as frustrated as you.  Purchased my pre plus back in may and bought the companion link software immediately  ( I have synced via usb for years on other palms to lotus notes)  All the information from companion link states that it does the job.  I only need to sync my calendar, no contacts.   I have put in a ridiculous amount of time with palm, my IT department and Companion link,  IT HAS NEVER EVER EVER WORKED.   I deleted, re installed, upgraded, tried different steps in different orders, I have gotten a new phone, tried it on multiple computers.  NOTHING WORKS.   Probably been through all these steps listed 50 times by now.  Actually I think that companion link doesn't work for palm pre plus, they just are not willing to say so and advertise that is does work.
I am extremely disappointed in my pre because of this.  I did my research before making my purchase, it appeared possible.    I WAS a long term palm user.  Currently looking at new phones and never again a palm.  Companion link should be more careful about what they say they can do.  One of the service techs actually told me that if I wanted it to work I should ditch my palm.  That's service for ya.
Good luck,  the fight got the better of me.  I am done.

  • Connection problems with PALM TX and WRT160N router

I purchased a WRT160N wireless router. My computers connected with no problems, but when I attempted to connect my Palm TX I ran into a bunch of problems. At first the Palm would not even find the network. I eventually was able to configure the router so that the Palm can now find the network, but it still will not connect. I have removed the security from the network and rebooted both with no luck. I read that I am supposed to set the type to b/g mixed, frequency to 40 mghz, the wide channel to 6 and the other channel to 8. I was able to set the b/g mixed, the frequency to 20, the wide channel defaults to 3 (I cannot change this) and the other channel to 8. Any ideas?

Changing Router to b/g Mixed fixed the problem.
I had the same trouble. I've been trying to connect my Palm TX to my brand new Linksys WRT160N for a day and a half. Tried EVERYTHING....SSID Broadcast on/off, WEP, WPA, Security all off, nothing helped. I just switched the router settings to B/G Mixed. The TX connected immediately.
B/G will be fine, even though the router's optimum performance is N. My broadband operates at 25Mbs. 802.11g has a transfer rate of up to 54Mbs where N is well over 100. "G" will easily keep up with my internet's best speed. And I can still Wi-Fi with my TX at 802.11b (11Mbs).
I can temporarily switch to "N" if I ever want to transfer huge amounts of data between my "N" Laptop and my Desktop PC.

  • Problems with Palm Pro

Hello, Im not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm in desperate need of help. A friend brought me this phone from U.S. but I'm in Ecuador and there are no Palm Service Centers here. Also tried to find a way to contact Treo though email but was unable to.
Me and my husband been trying to figure out some things about how to use the phone for 2 months now and of no effect. It seems like there is a problem with the phone, my husband thinks that its possible that windows have to be reinstalled, is that possible to do?
Some of the problems are that windows live almost never synchronizes on my phone. I've tried installing facebook using all sorts of ways, nothing works. I went to the website and followed directions that said "
On Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings> Email & accounts. " But I was not able to find "email and accounts" on my phone following these instructions.
I used to have a "lock button" on my phone, but then it just disappeared.
Lately, when I connect the phone to my computer I have to manually locate the Windows Center program whereas before it would pop up automaticallly.
Also I cant figure out what's the deal with the camera, it used to take normal decent size pictures but now they are microscopic in size and I cant find an option on my phone to change picture size. Nor do I understand why all of a sudden it changed in size without my permission....I had to delete all the latest photos because of their ridiculous size.
Another thing I dont get is when I get a call from unknown number and then try to save it on my sim card then only options I get is to save it either to Windows Live or Outlook, in order to save to SIM card I have to go to contacts first and enter the phone manually. What's the deal with that? In addition, some of my saved contacts are not being recognized and when the person calls the number shows as "unknown".
This is by far the most difficult phone I've ever had. I'm not expert in electronics but I dont think this is me, because my husband has been trying to figure out how to use it and he couldnt do anything about it either. He's got Iphone, we both use same phone company and have internet on our phones and he's got no problem with his phone like i do.
Anyone got any ideas what I can do? Please help.

Windows is stored in the phone's ROM. If you "hard reset" the phone (you can get direction in the Support section of this site for Phones > Treo Pro > Unlocked) then your applications, your data, etc. will be erased and the software should be restored to its original condition. But of course, this is a last resort.

Windows Live Hotmail? Are you setting it up as an Exchange ActiveSync account? I haven't tried that myself.
The directions you have for Facebook sound as though they might be for a different device, or a later version of Windows. If you go to http://m.facebook.com/ from your phone, you should get a download link toward the bottom to install the Facebook app. I haven't tried it myself.

If you mean that pressing the red end button doesn't lock the screen any more, you may need to read this thread: Keyguard not engaging anymore

To change the camera resolution, try this: start the camera, aim at something, then press the Up button on the controller. You should get a button bar that lets you increase the resolution. Whether it will become the new default, I don't know.

After the E, Palm came out with the E2 and the TX.   I have two of the TX's myself.  They were faster and had wifi in them.
If you're happy with your E, there are many places online who can install a new battery.  Try usedpdaparts.com or directfix.com.

  • Problems syncin Palm

Any suggestion what to do to solve the problem ?

Sure - the solution is simple. You need to manually deactivate the standard listed Palm conduits by moving them from the active Conduits to the Disabled Conduits folder. You'll find both here:
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
Move each of these conduits from the Active conduits folder to the Disabled Conduits folders:
    • Address Conduit
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
    • Datebook Conduit
    • Memo Conduit
    • Memos Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit
    • ToDo Conduit
To avoid the problem in the future, do not reinstall or upgrade the Palm Desktop, or be prepared to address the issue that process raises by moving the conduits manually. To avoid related issues caused by the reinstallation or upgrade of iSync, avoid selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync once you have installed the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
