OBI Publisher display user role

Hello,
I have googled for a few hours but cant find a global variable to display the user group(s) on the OBI Publisher report.
Is that possible without setting up a session variable in the repository (because right now we use OBI without the BI Server repository). If it does not work, how
do I access a OBI Repository session variable in OBI Publisher? From somewhere I need to get the runtime session user groups.

The LDAP is configured correctly now. I created a BIConsumer_new catalog group in the presentation services admin console. I can use that
console to set the permissions for the BI publisher report (somehow it does not work when I try to set the permissions using the bi publisher admin page - the permissions window does not open).
the question is still out there. how can I query with that catalog group OR ldap group in the BI Publisher data model?

Hello,
If you are using sharepoint server/enterprise then you can also consider audience targetting for the links. You just need to enable publishing feature then set target audience from site action-->site settings-->navigation.

In my forms I hide tab pages according the role using something like the following script in the WHEN_NEW_FORM_INSTANCE trigger.
So the user can not navigate to tabs which are vorbiden by his role.

Other solution may be is to use an initial form which only will detect the user role and run the appropriate form.
Other solutions are also possible.

Search for user role but help poppup display

Anyone ever trying to search for user role from search action bar or user admin page?
Whenever select role and clicked on the magnifying glass icon, help content displays instead of role selection.
At first I think this is a bug. But when I asked Customer Care they said its an expected behaviour which means that this is how the engineers designed it.
Dont you feel weird? because other field like status, correctly displays status info after clicking the icon.

New Request/Service Offerings not displaying on Portal via Catalog Group/ User Role

I have created some new service offerings and request offerings which I have published and are visible on the portal when logged in as an administrator.
I have then added these new items into a catalog group which is tied to a pre-existing user role to target our IT department ( this user role is currently working fine and shows all the other IT related offerings)
The new published items do are not showing up on the portal.
AD sync completed with no errors.
I have done the following to troubleshoot to no avail:
- created a new catalog group and user role to target the new SO RO's to
- targeted directly to a test user rather than the AD group
Some other weird things that I believe to be related to this is that the contents of catalog groups appear empty on local console but when logging on to the SM server to launch console all catalog group items are visible.
we are seeing a lot of error and warning event logs 26319 & 3333
Any suggestions?

Display interactive report rows based on user role.

Hello,
Can anyone please help me out with this issue. i have an interactive report and now i want to make this report as conditional based on user role. Like i want to dispaly all the report rows for an Admin user role and for a developer I want the report to display only his/her rows. Can anyone please help me how can I resolve this issue.
Do I need to have two separate reports for each role or can we make achieve this with only one report.

Here is a possible answer.. Build your Interactive report off of a collection. And when you build the collection you can build an if statement to either build your select with or without the filtering of user_id..

Publishing Queries to Roles

Hello Gurus,
I would like your take on the practice of publishing BW queries to roles? For an example there are 10 sets of queries and these 10 are published into a role for each company that exists. So in essence if there were 20 company codes we will have 20 roles containing 10 queries hardcoded with a company code. I spoke to our BW developer to get an idea as to why this is being done instead of restricting access through S_RS_COMP. Response was that this was done due to performance reasons (something to do with the queries linking directly to the infoprovider containing the information rather than going through all of the infoproviders). So, Rather than leaving the query open and the user entering the parameter themselves it was decided that the queries were to be hardcoded to cut down the time it takes for systems to display the results.
Anyone experience this issue before? My goal is to setup a derived role where the child roles are restricted by S_RS_AUTH for the company codes and query access through S_RS_COMP instead of being published to a single role. Before I do this I would like to figure out a way to move away from this practice without affect performance for end users.
By the way our users access these queries through the Bex Analyzer.

        Using derived roles in BW or S_RS_AUTH may not be the best design as field for S_RS_AUTH does not appear as org level. So you are not really going to have any advantage by going with derived role concept in terms of maintainence effort.
        With 10 queries - 20 Company Codes - you will not need 20 roles because of Company Code, just update the queries with appropriate authorization variable for company code and restrict users on company code. Just 20 company codes should not cause any performance issues
        Also with hardcoding the queries for each single company code - how are you resolving the scenario when user has access to more than one company code/ or global access.

Can user roles by transferred to new web server?

Our ISP moved our files to a new web server since we were
running out of room on their old server. However, our user roles
did not get transferred. The settings for Administrator, Publisher
and Writer were moved, but our custom roles were not. Is there a
way for these roles to be transferred from the old server?

We aren't using CPS, but it looks like our ISP moved the
files from the _mm directory. But the cthub....csi file on the new
server is much smaller than it was on the old server (11 K vs 53
K). It looks like the default roles (Administrator, Publisher,
Writer) were moved somehow because the user names associated with
those roles are displayed. But none of our other roles are showing
up.
One other bit of information ... the name of our web
server/URL has changed with this move. I don't know if that would
make a difference.

- when i run BI report from RSRT > Java web OR Query desinger run to portal option, its giving me some error and required to check log at portal, what authorization required for My BI developer user id in BI and EP to run the report on EP from RSRT JAVA Wev or query desinger or WAD? in BI i have FULL authorization(SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW, ..) Is there any Authorizaiton required to give in EP as well?

I am supposing you are doing the BI Java x BI ABAP integration, right?
Let's go per parts... I will try to respond directly some of your questions but frst of all, I think you should have ran the Template Installer (CTC) and after that checked the configuration with the supportdesk tool as per SAP Note 937697.
What are settings in BI connection in EP?
You have to maintain in the portal system landscape a system with alias "SAP_BW" which would be your BI Master System for that portal. The template installer creates this automatically.

You could use assertion ticket instead. The user mapping is automatic once you configure the system on both sides with the integration process. If you have problems after, we can look deeper.

Kind of... You need to maintain the default portal destination for the relevant portal through SM30 -> table RSPOR_T_PORTAL and it should have a destination in transaction SM59, too.

RSRT uses the default destination in RSPOR_T_PORTAL. Try to use J2EE_ADMIN user for the first tests, at least. At first, no special authorizations are needed to run reports in BEx Web (which RSRT calls).

There is a tool called "Role Upload" in EP. You could search about. If you need some help, I can get from the EP guys here (I am from BW). Of course, the process must be done with an administrator id.

Restricting values of a dropdown based on user roles

Hi,
Is it possible to restrict the values of a custom metadata dropdown based on the user roles (assuming only 1 role is assigned to each user)? Say, based on the role assigned to a user, he/she should see only 3-4 values out of 10 values in a dropdown on the checkin page. Please suggest.

You can get pretty close out of the box using some configuration manager applet voodoo
1)First off create a Table that will contain the options for your list. Create the columns e.g. label and id and then also create a column called dSecurityGroup
2)Add a view based on the table you just created, choose the Security tab and select "Use standard document security"
3)Add some values to your view - make sure that you populate the dSecurityGroup column with real values of security groups
4)Once it is all published, have a look at the checkin and search screens. You should find that UCM will evaluate the options in the same way it would documents - based on the dSecurityGroup value you applied to the row - e.g. you will see an option on the search screen if you have at least R permissions, you will see an option on a checkin screen if you have at least RW permission

Hi Sachin,
It doesn't care if you're using SAP_ALL or any of those profile. That is not relevant. I had that case a few days ago, I'm not using any of those profiles and I made it work with help of one post.
If you put the transactions in the tab "Menu" of the role in the PFCG, and if you activate parameters I mentioned in a prior post, then you should see the Menu.
Tables SSM_CUST and USERS_SSM. The first is global and the other is user-especific.
The link in one of the first post of this thread hace all the info.
That should work, that worked in my case.
What values the parameters have on those tables? The more the info the better.
Updating the parameters on those tables should help. If still doesn't work then you should check another parameter using transaction RZ10 or report RSPARAM.
If my info solves your problem, points are appreciated, if not, we will try...

VL10 batch doesn't allow user role maintenance

A batch job to create deliveries is desired.
A user role was created using VL10CUA (copied from 5001).
Access VL10G to create a variant, but the User Role tab is completely display only.
According to OSS note 310022, step 2 indicates that user role can be maintained for background processing.
Currently using ECC 5.0. Why is the user role tab display only? What changes are necessary to create a variant using the new user role?
I also looked at the screen painter and the fields were "Possible" so that doesn't answer why they are display only when using VL10G.

In VL10CUA, create a new user role from 5001 and click on Chg. Attributes and change F code to 5001.
Then assign the user role in VL10CUV to VL10 Scenario.
This will default the user role in VL10. Save the variant and then run VL10BATCH for the variant.

Usage of Different Prompt based on Users Role in OBIEE

I have a requirement(OBIEE Reports) as below.
The Dashboard page will have a Prompt(Drop Down) Say for Geography where it will list all the countries available.When a global user(Role) logs in to the application he should see all the list of available countries along with "All Choice" option in the prompt.But when a Country user(Role) logs in he should see only the country available for him in the prompt without "All Choice" Option.Also if the Country user(Role) belongs to more then one country he should see all countries he belongs to along with the "All Choice" option in the prompt.
Any help on this is Appreciated.

Like David points, you may use Security Groups to display 1 or more Countries to the User depending upon 'Global' or 'Country'. You will have to use content filters to reflect the scope of the user in session.
Then 'All Choices' is a prompt front-end feature. You cannot restrict to 'Country' but 'Country' anyway cant see more rows that he is eligible. So, you may consider 'All Choices' for all users.

Search for roles with SAP_FI_AP*
You could always create your own role.
In the Menu tab add the t codes you have specified.
You will then need to add the authorization objects in the authorization tabs.
For the t codes you have I guess it would take an hour max.
