Object placing on a terrain

I'm new to java and am especially interested in game programming. I started making a game to learn some basics of game programming, where I came to an obstacle I couldn't find a solution for.
So far I made a "ball" positioned in the center of the applet, which is "rolling" on the terrain (actually when you are pressing the keys the terrain moves and not the ball, but it gives you the impression you're moving the ball instead).
Now the problem I have is that I don't know how to place an object (a picture with some in-game attributes) relative to the position of my terrain (a large picture). Because if I'd place it, giving it the coordinates relative to the applet, it would appear as that it's moving on the terrain, while I need it to be fixed on a defined position on my terrain picture, and to move coordingly with it.
Do you have any suggestions on how to make that, or do you know some other way of drawing a terrain with fixed objects, and a character being able to move around?

Would I just use an unload function for all of the movie
clips? I'm new into actionscript and want to further my skills. Im
also not sure where to put the code either.
Or is there a different way that I can do my swap depths so
that it doesn't do the problem that I currently have?

  • Objects placed above video are invisible

I've been searching around this forums but couldn't  find any tips for my problem...
I've imported FLV to my CPproject. On the layer above there's a logo (screen1 in attachment) in the left-up corner (with active option "place object on top"). During preview and after publishing logo is removed to the layer under the video (screen2 in attachment) it's hardly visible yellow color in the left-up corner.
It's the same with any other objects (animations, jpgs) placed above the video. After publishing they're all removed under the video and invisible...
    Where's the problem??
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I just tried to reproduce the issue and it perfectly well for me. These are the steps i followed -
    1. I am using Captivate 4
    2. Inserted a FLV video file on slide-1
    3. Inserted an image (.jpeg) and set its display timing to Display For - Rest of project
    4. I also checked the checkbox 'place object on top'
    5. Point to note: In my timeline - image layer is above the FLV video layer.
    6. Preview the project.
Video played fine. Also the image appeared on top of the FLV.
Am i missing something .. ? Can you please give the steps you follow in detail.

  • Objects Placed in InDesign

I'm having a problem with placing PDF's and PSD's in InDesign.
Yesterday when I set my View > Display Preference > High Quality the images weren't as pixilated. I believe someone replied on here that when I went to Print or Save that these Pixels would go away and it would be at the resolution I saved it as in PS.
BUT, I printed to PDF and the image is still not as clear in resolution as it is in PS.
    Any Help on this one???
ALSO, I'm wondering if I can duplicate a page spread in InDesign with a "placed link" and if I can change the contents of that "placed link" on the new duplicate page (basically, I want to have multiple pages with an image in the EXACT same spot on all pages, is there any easier way to do this then to just move around the image?)
I hope this makes sense, I'm new here. Thanks in advance for all the help!!

There are a few things that could be going on here.
First, is the image scaled? If you increase the size of an image in ID, the effective resolution goes down, and that can have an effect on print quality (and dispaly, even in high quality mode).
Second, when printing, set Send Data to All rather than the default Optimized Subsampling. As pointed out above that setting is to make the image prcess faster on your desktop printer, but it also kills the quality about 90% of the time.
Third, when making the a new PDF from the ID file, whether printing or exporting to PDF, make sure you are using an appropriate preset that doesn't down-sample or compress the images to the extreme. For desktop output, the [High Quality Print] PDF preset is appropriate. For Press either [Press Quality] or one of the PDF/X presets, depending on the press conditions.

  • Object placing - free moving picture in background

    hello folks,
I want a picture in the background to my text and move that freely anwhere. The relevant boxes to tick for that are grayed out and not available. How can I work around that?
    Thx and best
    Harry

Are you aware that there are two types or modes of Pages documents, word processing or page layout?
The WP has a text layer which the PL doesn't have. The WP can send images to the background, but PL can't.  When a option can't be done the option is greyed out. It could be because the type of document can't do it, or the object or text isn't selected.
To learn more about Pages as it has a lot of features and funtions download the Pages User Guide from your Pages Help menu.
I bought a book "The Missing Manual on iWork" when I had to learn Pages. It is helpful and a good reference book. There are other books that might suite you better.

  • TextWrap and Anchored Objects

Okay, I've been using InDesign since it was PageMaker 4.3 so I'm pretty familiar with the features and the intents behind them. Lately I've had a problem for which I can't seem to find a fully acceptable work-around. It involves text-wrapping anchored objects within a large, multi page flow of text.
Boiled down to a basic description of the issue, I need a graphic to appear on a page within a text block at a certain point, that is, at the top of a justified paragraph on the extreme right side of the column. The object occupies 7 lines of text, dropping down into the paragraph from line 1. The object needs to have a word wrap applied causing the text within the block to flow around it.
The problem is that as the document evolves, the quantity of text that precedes the paragraph holding the graphic changes. As text is added to preceding paragraphs, text advances through the text blocks to a point where the graphic now begins to be displayed beyond the bottom of the text block rather than jump to the next text block. Forcing the object to stay within the text block (by using the "Keep with top/bottom column boundaries") pushes the object up, effectively leaving the original location and invading the preceding paragraph.
The first solution I tried was to anchor the object 7 lines deep in the paragraph, then manually move it up to the first line using the "Y-offset" in the "Anchored Objects Options" palette. When I do this, the object's text wrap fails (!), always working only at line 7 and below and not moving up with the object.
My current solution is to not embed the object inline at all, but place it over the text block. This works but is unsatisfactory since the text is constantly changing, forcing me to stop and reposition the graphic - plus the 500 or so similar objects that follow in similar situations further along in the document.
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, no. If the anchor is inserted at the top of the paragraph (where I want the top of the image to be), the image won't flow to the next text block when any other part of the image (i.e., any part of the image that is not on the first line where the anchor is) is beyond the end of its text block.
Here is how I want the page to look:
Here, the graphic is not placed inline but sits over the text with textwrap set.
But rather than have all my objects placed over text, I want them inline. If I place the anchor anywhere below the first line of text, (again, the line where I want the top of the image to be), text wrap won't function above the anchor point regardless of how high I move the image:
If I place the graphic in its own paragraph above the first line of the paragraph, the result works well as long as the text preceding the anchor doesn't flow any further (i.e., no additional text is added). But as text is added and once the line holding the bottom of the photo flows to a new text block, one of two problems arises. If "Keep Within Top/Bottom Column Boundaries" is checked the graphic moves up:
If "Keep Within Top/Bottom Column Boundaries" is unchecked, the graphic begins to bleed out of the text box:
I can't believe there isn't a simple (or even complex) solution to this problem...

  • Attaching objects to text

    Hi there,
I have a very large document that I've been working on for months that has hundreds of objects placed around paragraphs with carefully organized formatting text wrap. I just realized that I'm going to have to add some text (and new photos) at the beginning and within the document. When I try to add new text, it pushes the existing text down but leaves the objects where they are, totally screwing up all of my formatting. Am I doing something wrong? How do I "lock" the objects to the text? I tried creating a blank document to cut and paste the existing text & objects so that I could add what I needed and then paste it back in, but it seems that I'm unable to select the text and the objects at the same time so that they move together. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

In the Word Processor document the text moves down when new text is put in front of it. If you have the object floating they will stay put. What to do?
    1) You can insert a new page section break and you'll get a whole new blank page inserted at the new section break.
    2) For having the images move with the text you have to make them inline. select the image and in the Tool bar or in the Wrap Inspector, choose Inline. You need to rewrap the images to place them where you want them.
    3) Get the Pages User Guide fom the Help menu in Pages. It gives you a lot of good info on how things work in Pages.

  • Vectors printing jagged when placed over raster images

I am fixing a previously designed flyer for a reprint. On the last print, any vector object placed on top of the raster image was very noticeably jagged. This included both white text, which simply had jagged edges, to colored text, which had white jaggies as well. Drawn vector objects and clipping paths in jpgs were also jagged.
I used InDesign CS3 to create it, but I outlined the type, embedded all the images and exported as a .pdf (my project manager insists on this; so maybe it's not even an ID issue).
It looks fine when I print it on my hp LaserJet 2550n or the office's Canon iR 2800i - but that's never been a good way to tell how it's going to turn out at the end.
I know just making it all in Photoshop is probably the safest option, but I would really like to keep the sharpness of the vectors, and I've got Character/Paragraph styles etc going that would be a pain to redo in Photoshop. Plus, copy+pasting it into Photoship creates pdf/vector object that looks just as horrid (on screen - it looks the same when I print it on the above-mentioned printers, but I'm still paranoid).
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any help you are able to offer!
    Lisa

Peter, thank you for your reply. I really appreciate the help.
Generally, I use the default settings for [Press Quality], since I don't have a complete understanding of all the settings. I have appended the .txt pdf setting summary at the bottom of this post.
I'm aware that outlining type is supposed to be unnecessary but 1) my project manager insists on it because he doesn't want to deal with any kind of font problems (maybe if this is at the root of the problem it will push him to accept it), 2) I'm using Fontin & Fontin Sans by Jos Buivenga (a high quality free font) and the ligatures/alternate characters
sometimes don't show correctly when printed (replaced by a ?) or viewed on another computer without the font.
Yes, I embed the images into the ID document (Links - embed images). This is only because my project manager insists on this as well. It is unnecessary to do this when saving to a .pdf, correct?
Here are the settings I generally use when exporting a pdf to send to the printer (who do not specify any kind of settings):

  • Foot notes and Anchored Objects...

So from what I can tell, an anchored object set to the bottom of the page, column, margin etc will all sit nice and smugly over footnotes!

Anyhow, has anyone come up with a solution for this?

  • Remove "Object Inherit" from folder

I have a folder, within which are a collection of files. I have a problem where users of a certain group are inadvertently changing the permissions of the files by accessing the files, changing something, and saving those changes.
I used cacls to view the permissions on the folder and I believe my problem is with the "OI" attribute being set (snippet below):
    domain\group:(OI)(CI)(special access:)
OI is "Object Inherit - The ACE will be inherited by files".
How can I remove this OI attribute? I read that icacls might do the trick, but is this the right syntax:
    icacls "Folder Name" /inheritance:d
Wanted to get some input from others before I jack up these permissions any further.
    Shaun

    Hi,
The command "icacls "Folder Name" /inheritance:d" will disable inheritance (I) and copy the ACEs.
    (I) "Inherited": This ACE was inherited from the parent container.
(OI) "Object inherit": This ACE will be inherited by objects placed in this container.

  • Master Page objects

Bob, I can't find my previous thread, I don't even remember its name. So I am opening a new one, hope I'm not close to spamming by doing this. I had some problems with the objects on the master page, they didn't come out when exporting to PDF. Well, I somehow fixed it, I don't know exactly how, but I think there was another object in front of it, that became visible only on the PDF, covering my object. Maybe you can better guess what happened cause I surely can't.
As I've already opened a new topic, I'll use this opportunity to ask if there is any possibility to activate the objects placed on the master pages from aleatory pages of the document. I mean, if I want to bring forth a master page object on let's say page 5 and place it on top of something else, but leave the other master page objects where they were, can I do that? Or do I have to apply None on page 5 instead of Master Page, and copy the object from the master and place it on the page I'm working in.
Hope I didn't piffle to much and was clear enough.

all objects from MasterPages as always placed beneath of objects placed directly on regular Page from the same Layer
if you need to bring some object placed on MasterPage above object(s) on regular page - you need to click SHIFT+CTRL+LeftMouseButton on this object and override it on current page

  • Smart objects rotating unexpectedly

    Hi All,
I don't use smart objects very much, so I hope someone will save me the time of learning too quickly...
I have a supplied .psd file which has several faults in method of construction by noobie, but the one throwing me is that two of the 3 or 4 smart objects placed in it are displaying rotated 90 degrees and are scaling to fit the apparent frame.
I believe they showed correctly when I opened the file for a look, but after making a levels adjustment in one of the s/o's, the two changed orientation and refuse to behave now.
I don't recall hearing of this before, is it common?
    PS11.0.1
    OSX 10.5.7
    Intel Duo

No, I don't know anything except that the file was prepared by a noobie who had no idea...
To describe better, it is a front cover all laid out in photoshop with some text on layers and 5 mugshots scattered around the edge of the page, all smart objects and normal portrait orientation.
I opened the file with no warnings except profile, viewed correctly, noted the ugly colour in mugshots, so double clicked on layer to open smart object, which went fine, made tonal adjustments and flattened s/o and closed.  When the parent file updated, that s/o came back rotated 90deg and distorted to fit in the original frame ie squashed!  Not only that, but another s/o had done the same even though I had not opened it!
Quite bizarre, but sometimes these amateurs come up with some strange ways to build a file so anything was possible in the construction.
Also, the text on their laser sample is a serif but it opened on my machine as arial with no warning.  Maybe it is just a busted file!
I don't get a lot of weird things happening, I have a low-spec but very stable system and up to date and I have had plenty of practice, but admittedly not much with smart objects so I am putting it down to a one-off file glitch or something I don't understand with the smarty...

  • PMS color in a vector smart object

How do I retain a spot color in a vector smart object placed in Photoshop. Once the SO is updated within the PS file, the separations palette does not reflect the change, and the spot color is no longer there.

I thank everyone for their input, I guess I should have provided a little more information:
The file supplied by a client. Is an Illustrator file. Within this AI file is a PSD file. An element in the PSD file is a vector smart object, which needs to have a PMS color applied. I can apply a PMS color to the SO, then save and update the PSD, then update the link in the AI file, but the color converts back to 4C, and the spot color is lost. I cannot come up with a way to maintain the spot color in the SO. I was thinking of just taking the SO out of the PSD altogether, and placing it in the final AI doc, but there are some PS effects applied to it that I cannot reproduce in AI. For added difficulty, the PSD cannot be flattened, because it has some pretty crafty transparancy masking in it. I would love to provide the file itself, but for security reasons, I am unable to do so.

  • Smart object import changes black colour code

    Hi there,
I'm trying to solve some problems I'm having with illustrator objects placed in Photoshop and I wonder whether the following is possible at all: I place illustrator grahics with a black background as smart objects in Photoshop and when I check the colours of the smart object the black has another code and it looks paler as well. Now the question is, is it possible at all to insert an AI graphic and have PS keep the colour code? I work with CMYK on both apps and so far the colour settings should be matched for the CS package. I have checked to display all black shades in deep black under the AI preferences but I am not sure if that is relevant at all. I figure the apps may display the colours differently but at least the colour codes should be kept... or am I expecting too much here?

Well I have the same cmyk profile on both apps as I wrote before. But now that you made me aware to check the profiles once again I came to realize I set the black value in AI according to the cmyk color bar in the colour tab (the black and white square on the right), which will have all the values on 0% except from the k one which is 100%. But the actual 000000 value has another distribution for the percentage in CMYK... So there problem solved. Just wonder why the black values won't match for the predefined black colour, why it can't be the universal #000000... Anyway thanks!

  • Panel Object xy coordinates and Multiple window list in task bar

    Two questions...
I recently had to rearange panel objects to programatically display them. They were not at the origin, and had to futz them into
    position.
Is the first object placed, placed at the origin?
Could the guys at NI provide an xy indicator?
    And second,
I built my application, but in the task bar there is a listing for the app, then another listing for the window name. How can I
    clean this up?
    XP
    LV 6.1
    Cheers

    Martin,
    As far as question 1:
There are 2 different origins when speaking about the front panel. There is the 0,0 position that is global to all controls and indicators on it. This origin is a location that does not change. In LabVIEW 7.0 if you have the grids turned on you can see this location as a slightly darker line on the grid and a gray dot. You can reference a controls relative position to this origin by using the "Position" Properties.
There is then the Origin property of a front panel. This origin refers to what part of the front panel is viewable. The Origin in this sense is what location, referenced to the first position, is at the top left corner of the front panel screen.
Take a look at the attached screen shot.
    So if you a
re programmatically moving objects around you need to be aware of both. If you move the scrollbars of the front panel, the origin changes. However the positions of all the objects do not.
If you have any questions about this description let me know. The difference between the 2 origins is subtle.
