OCCI (Oracle 9i) in cygwin on W2K
I would like to know if it's possible to compile and link the samples (for example occipool.cpp) in cygwin.
I am having problems to link to the Oracle libraries. They all seems to be .lib and I was expecting something like .a or .so
Thanks.
Maybe I was not clear, but what I want to link with, are the OCCI libraries. And for some reason, this is not working (that's why I ask here and not in Cygwin forums).
The compilation was fine, but the linking gives the message :
undefined reference to `oracle::occi::Environment::createEnvironment
That's Oracle specific.
You say that there's a version using gcc 2.95.x does it have something to do with this :
http://www.leroybrown.com/oracletips.html
But this solution works for RedHat and I am using Cygwin.
Please tell me if it is possible to link from Cygwin with libraries of the Oracle9i W2K installation.
Here is the command :
$ g++ ora_conn_pool.o
-LE:/SW/DataBase/Oracle/ora92/oci/lib/msvc -lstdc++
-lcygwin -loraocci9 -loci -o ora_conn_pool ora_conn_pool.o(.text$_ZN8occipoolC1Ev+0x32):ora_conn_pool.cpp: undefined reference to

9i's Oracle Universal Installer problem in W2K server! Please Help.
Hi all,
I am trying to install Oracle database 9i on my w2k server (domain controller). The Oracle Universal Installer quits right after I choose install in autorun menu with this message:
'Error in writing to directory C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall. Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 25 MB of Disk Space. Installation could not continue.'
I am installing as the administrator of the domain/server and I have 17GB left on my harddisk. I am using a P3 600 with 384 MB of RAM. My HD is Seagate ATAIV Baracuda and my motherboard uses VIA chipset.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
HartonoI am using Diamond TNT2 video card. I have tried to install new (not newest) detonator drive and VIA 4 in 1 driver ver4.29 but it still gives me the error. Would it help if I install Java2 runtime on this computer?

Unable to install Oracle 8i personal edition into W2K pro
I am unable to install 8i personal edition Release 3 onto my W2K machine. I download the zip file and unzip it into (c:/OracleInstall) a folder I have created on my c:/ drive. When i click on the setup.exe file it opens up. When I click on the install button the GUI disappers and nothing occurs. I have attempted to burn it onto a CD_Rom and install through the control panel and the same occurs.
I am not sure what is causing this problem. Is there any why I could request the software in a CD as opposed to a zip file? What could be causing this problem?I am unable to install 8i personal edition Release 3 onto my W2K machine. I don't know about his machine, but mine is a P4. Where do I find this information about this problem? And is there a fix? I need to install the NET8 Assistant. -
I am not able to run some basic code using OCCI. I am able to successfully compile and link the code.
using namespace oracle::occi;
class occidml
private:
Environment *env;
Connection *conn;
Statement *stmt;
public:
occidml(string user, string passwd,string db)
//env = Environment::createEnvironment(Environment::DEFAULT);
env = Environment::createEnvironment();
conn = env->createConnection(user, passwd,db);
Every time the constructor is called, it successfully creates the environment it appears, I have a watch on the env pointer and it has some address. But the createConnection fails so I catch the exception and try to getMessage, but that fails with
"Unhandled exception at 0x005b8dcb in Oracle_Proj.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xcccccccc."
I am using the occi sample code and havent changed much. please help me. I have a long way to go to make the app work. I can provide you with any additional information required.
ChadMy suspicion is that you are using mismatched versions between OCCI/Oracle Client and the Microsoft runtime libraries. That's why I've asked about the versions. I don't know what version of OCCI/Oracle Client you are using, but if it is the version that ships with Oracle Database Expression Edition, that will be incorrect since that version is for VS2003/VC7.1. One potential issue when using mismatched versions is that the memory allocators/deallocators used to build OCCI may be different from the runtime versions, for example.
EDIT1: Also, if using the debug build, you'll need to make sure that the oraocciXXd.dll is in the path. If it's not you should get an "application unable to start" type of message though. I don't have an Oracle Database Express Edition install handy at the moment, so I'm going somewhat from memory.
Thanks,
Mark

Silent Install of Oracle Patch 10.1.0.2.0
I'm trying to do a silent installation of the 9.2.0.5_PATCH_SET_FOR_ORACLE_DATABASE_SERVER. I want to install the Oracle 10.1.0.2.0 patch first. Below is my response file. When I try to run the installation silently the Language Selector appears. What am I missing here?
Any Help is appreciated.

Connection Pooling in OCCI Vs Multi-Threading.
Hi,
I am working on an application in which I am using OCCI( Oracle C++ Call Interface) and multi-threading concepts.
My application is having different clients( Ex: Client-A, Client-B) and I am offering a set of operations( functions that trigger the Stored Procedures of DataBase ) which are common to all the clients.Each Client can send asynchronous requests of any number.So, is there any chance of using single connection( not connection pooling) to the Data Base for all the clients to manage their requests ?
Note: Multi-threaded requests are also allowed from each client.
How can I co-relate multithreading and Connection Pooling in OCCI?
Can I you multi-threading without Connection Pooling? If so how?
Will the connection pooling is needed if there is no multi threading concept in my application?
Please help me on this. Very urgent.
Thanks in Advance..:)Connections are resources that the application uses and a fewer connections can be used by multiple threads if the threads are not always busy with the database activity only, and are doing other work too. This sharing (pooling) can be implemented by the application or the application can leverage the connection pooling features offered by OCI/OCCI (recommended).
Be aware of connections vs sessions and sharing them (refer to :
OCI Programming Advanced Topics
OCCIConnectionPool is to pool connections and OCCIStatelessConnectionPool is to pool sessions. Please see the differences in the above link and apply as appropriate. -
Copy data from Berkeley DB to Oracle tables
Hello
I need to get data from Berkeley DB to Oracle tables.
Any help/tools to this?
Thanks for your help in advance.
So far
1. I asked developers to dump BDB in flat file.
2. Created external tables & loaded into permanent table using CTAS.
CheersHi Shekhar,
External tables managed by the Oracle DB Server are a way to go.
However, I would suggest using any of the Berkeley DB Core APIs (C, C++, Java) along with its appropriate correspondent on the Oracle DB side, that is, OCI (Oracle Call Interface, C API), OCCI (Oracle C++ Call Interface) and, respectively, JDBC or SQLJ. You may also use the Oracle DB Precompilers, Pro*C/C++ along with the correspondent Berkeley DB API, C/C++.
If you have Metalink access, you may consult the KM Note 756126.1, where I've discussed how to import Oracle DB data into Berkeley DB databases (the opposite of what you're trying to do), using OCI on the Oracle DB side and the C API on the Berkeley DB side; there is a code example in the note to explain how to perform this task.
Doing the data copying the other way around is not difficult; you'll need to iterate through the Berkeley DB database with a cursor and use appropriate OCI DML statements (INSERT INTO) to write the data to the Oracle DB table. Note that you may also use OCI to execute the DDL statements (CREATE TABLE) to create the Oracle DB table into which data will be copied, or do that separately using SQL*Plus, PL/SQL dynamic native SQL etc before copying the data.
Bellow are the links for the Berkeley DB documentation page where you'll find each of the BDB APIs and the Oracle DB Application Development documentation section where you'll find the development guides for Oracle Call Interface, JDBC and SQLJ:

Occi::Number compilation problem in Linux
Hi,
I got following error when I complile my application which uses OCCI (Oracle C++ Call Interface) shiped with Oracle 9.2. I added the compiler flag -Dlint .
When I dont add the compiler flag I dont get following error. My machine is running RedHat linux 7.3
/usr/bin/g++ -c -I/opt/ora9/product/9.2/rdbms/demo -I/opt/ora9/product/9.2/rdbms/public -I/opt/ora9/product/9.2/plsql/public -I/opt/ora9/product/9.2/network/public myapp.cpp -g -Wall -DLiS -Dlint -DORACLE -I../include -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT
In file included from /opt/ora9/product/9.2/rdbms/demo/occi.h:40,
from ../include/DatabaseSupport.h:17,
from myapp.cpp:4:
/opt/ora9/product/9.2/rdbms/demo/occiData.h:374: `oracle::occi::Number::Number (char)' has already been
declared in `oracle::occi::Number'
/opt/ora9/product/9.2/rdbms/demo/occiData.h:408: `oracle::occi::Number::operator char () const' has
already been declared in `oracle::occi::Number'
If I dont compile my application with -Dlint compiler flag I cant run the application.
I think this is a bug in occi::Number class
Any solusion??
Thanking in advance
nkranYour code is faulty and has to be fixed.
No compilation problem is present, the compiler correctly barfs.
As this is not a support forum, kindly keep your non-issues out of this forum.
Thank you!!!

Installing Oracle 8i client tools on Windows 2K Advanced Server SP2
I am having issues with installing Oracle 8i client tools on W2K Advanced Server SP2. The CD I have is labeled Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition, Release 3 (8.1.7) Win NT/2000 CSI# 2224188. The error message I get is that a dependency exist on having ORACLE.SWD.JRE 1.1.8.10.0 installed and the universal installer cant find it. The disk has a folder named ORACL.SWD.JRE with a subfolder named 1.1.7.30 which leads me to believe that the version of the file that shipped with this media is version 1.1.7.30.
Questions:
1. Why would Larry ship a CD with the wrong version of a file...just venting.
2. Where do I get the correct version?
3. How do I install it?
Any help would be appreciated.
KurtOracle8i on PIV
If you have Pentium IV do following: find file symcjit.dll file in the oracle installation folder and rename it to symcjit.old.
try to run setup.exe located in the install/win32 folder.
Oracle9i on W2K
Install service pack 2 or higher
Virtual memory between 800 and 900 MB ( Recommended )
if for any cause setup.exe does not make anything,
try to make click on autorun.exe

Forms 6 and Oracle 8.1.6
When lauching Forms 6.0.5.0.2 (runtime) it immediately closes again.
We're using Oracle 8.1.6 on W2k machines.
Does someone got any idea how to solve it ?I had this once, and I used forms runtime diagnostics output to find out what it was executing immediately before it fell over. I couldn't see what was wrong with the offending code, but wrote it differently and fixed the problem.
If you don't know about F.R.D, try looking at diagnostics in form builder on-line help index. -
OCCI Link problem (Error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol) in VS2012
Hi,
I'm having a hard time with this. I'm trying to implement OCCI within my application. Error I'm getting is:

Yes, it looks like linking problem,...but for me everything seems set-up.
- Included header files (from instantclient-sdk-windows.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip)
- Included library path from OCCI download (11.2.0.3.0)
- Added oraocci11d.lib in linker
Please, what am I doing wrong?
Millions of thanks for any kind of feedback ;-)Have you succeeded? I tried vs2012 and it passed compilation, but gave the run-time error of _crtisvalidheappointer. But the same code runs well with vs2010. I think Oracle needs to publish the new patch for vs2012
