Office 2010 and Sharepoint 2003 property length limitation to 256

We recently upgrade to Office 2010 (from 2003) and we noticed a problem with our Sharepoint 2003 integration. (yes, 2003, long story why we haven't upgraded, but in short: a high customised implementation of Sharepoint).
We noticed that since the upgrade that whenever we use "Edit in Microsoft Word" on a document in Sharepoint and save the document again to Sharepoint, all sharepoint properties (metadata) of that document get cut off to 256 characters. This only happens
for doc files, not for docx files.
Anybody any idea how to resolve this or encountered the same problem? The metadata in those properties is very important to the workings of our Sharepoint portal so I really need more than 256 chars.

For earlier versions of SharePoint, this was a well known issue.  Sometimes, lengthy links can come from non-IT people creating sites, sub-sites and libraries.  As Stacy says, the fix may well end up being manual in that some of the links will
have to be shortened.  There are, however, shortcuts for this: -
Begin by using the various ENUM commands in STSADM to get a list of sites.  Identify those with large links and see how far down their site structure goes.
You can do things such as backing up and restoring sites with different / smaller URLS and renaming subsites.  Removing spaces between words or characters is a good one to aim for as a space will turn in %20 in the URL
Think about using a utility, whether a commercial product's trial / express edition, or a CodePlex product to help restructure your environment.

  • I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents?

I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents? I am planning to transition to a Mac so using the iCloud seems to make the most sence.

No, it is not a backup method at all.  If you delete a sync'd file on any device, you delete it permanently from iCloud.  That by its very essence is not a backup solution therefore.  A backup solution does not automatically and simultaneiously delete the file everywhere when it is deleted from the original source.
iCloud is strictly a syncronization tool for using files on multiple internet connected devices.

  • ICloud will not sync my contacts or calendar in Mac Office 2011. ICloud does however sync to my PC at work running Microsoft office 2010 and also to my IPad and IPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Unfortunately Office for Mac does not support the correct protocols to work with iCloud.

  • Issues with Office 2010 and Acrobat Pro 8

    Good Day All;
We are in the middle of upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 with Office 2010 and I was wondering if there are any issues with importing Office documents into Acrobat Pro 8. I have found out that there are a couple of issue with Office 201 and LifeCycle Designer.
    Any comments would be helpful
    Regards
    Chomp

Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Microsoft Office 2010 and the PDFMaker plugins will not install. Only Acrobat X is compatible with Office 2010, and at this time only in 32-bit mode.
Acrobat 8 is also not officially compatible with Windows 7, again Acrobat X is the first version to carry approval for that OS. It will still install, but Adobe cannot guarantee it will operate perfectly in all cases, and doesn't provide install support for that combination.

  • Office 2010 and RoboHELP 8.0.2

    Hi everyone,
Current I'm running RH8.0.2 and office 2007. The RH version we use is the RH HTML variant and we do not export to word from the RH menu but when I do need to create word output it's done by copy and paste from the compiled webhelp output. Also note that we use TFS for source control.
Bearing this in mind is there any reason why I can't install Office 2010 and continue to run RH 8.0.2?

    HI Author care,
Pre-Requisites to use TFS-2010 as required with RH 9 is that our machine needs to have Visual Studio Team Explorer 2005/2008/2010 installed.
    With Visual studio 2005/2008 :
    a.  Install Visual Studio 2005/2008
    b. Install Visual Studio 2005/2008 SP1
    c.  Install Team Explorer 2005/2008
    d. Install forward compatibility upgrade for team explorer.
    e. Edit registry value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/VisualStudio/9.0/TeamFoundat ion/Servers. Add a new String Value in there and make the name of it the name that you want to call your server connection. Make the Value "http://tfs-2010/tfs/DefaultCollection".
    f. Install MSSCCI Provider for Visual Studio 2005/2008.
            With Visual studio 2010 :
    a.  Install Visual Studio 2010 (it should have Team Explorer installed already).
    b. Goto Team>Connect to Team foundation Server. Click on Add and give Name or URL as ‘tfs-2010’ and click OK.
    c.  Select Team Projects as Demo and Connect.
    d. Install MSSCCI Provider for Visual Studio 2010.
    Hope it helps

  • Office 2010 and Lync 2013 installed caused Powerpoint to become corrupted from internet sources

I'm finding that we're having problems with Office 2010 and Lync 2013.
Our environment is setup as follows:
    Operating system: Windows 7 Enterprise
Office: Office 2010 (Word, Excel , Powerpoint, Access etc)
Office 2013 (Only Lync has been installed for 2013)
Problem: The issue is that when any Powerpoint documents come from internet sources (Such as Outlook or downloading directly from an internet browser), attachment manager deems the Powerpoint a security risk. When you open the Powerpoint it states that it's
corrupt and needs to be repaired, when you try repairing the powerpoint, it says it's not going to be possible.
The only workaround is right clicking the power point in explorer and clicking properties, there's then a security prompt at the bottom of the dialog box and an option to "Unblock".
The temporary fix: The fix is to remove Lync 2013 and the power point presentation open correctly from Internet sources.
    Attempted:
    I've attempted the following:
    - Build a laptop with a plain version of Windows 7 enterprise
    - Install Office 2010 Professional
    - Test powerpoints from internet sources (Working)
    - Install Lync 2013
    - Test powerpoints from internet sources (Same error)
    Any ideas?

Just to let you know that switching off protected view in Powerpoint for files originating from internet sources and Outlook attachments is a workaround for the issue.
I would be cautious about switching off Protected view though, here's a good article explaining the inner workings of Protected view:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office2010/archive/2009/08/13/protected-view-in-office-2010.aspx
Concerning this problem, I also noticed that after removing Office 2013 and starting Powerpoint, a MSIEXEC instance is started.
Presumably some DLLs are missing or some registry keys are missing when installed with Lync/Office 2013.
I also went to the trouble of snap shotting the registry and using Procmon to see what gets loaded and added when Powerpoint repairs itself on first start after removing Office 2013.
Unfortunately there are a number of things which change and couldn't be changed on the Office 2010 and Lync 2013 setup to fix the problem.
My advice would be the following:
    - Update to Office 2013 fully
    - Downgrade to Office 2010 Lync
    - Switch off protected view

  • Problem opening documents from SharePoint (2013) libraries with Office 2010 and 2013 components installed

    Hi
I've been encountering the problem of Office files failing to open from SharePoint 2013 libraries with the prefix of 'ms-excel:ofv|u|' etc. in the url. Following the
helpful questions and answers in the forum, I've identified the likely cause as the fact that my main Office installation is 2010, but I also have installed OneDrive for Business 2013 (which I need in order to sync document libraries with my local drive).
The solution I've seen suggested elsewhere of deactivating the SharePoint integration of Office 2013 components fails for two reasons: there is no way (or at least, I can't find one) of deactivating SharePoint integration probably because, deactivating
SharePoint integration would likely stop the syncing of libraries/folders.
One thing that I have noticed in my case that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that if I right-click a document and select 'open in new tab/window' the required
document opens directly in the relevant office package. I don't know if this is a useful observation, but it seems to be new information.
My question is, is there a way I can continue to sync libraries and open Office documents directly in Office 2010? My thoughts are possible changes to registry settings
(which I can do, but don't know enough to find the correct ones myself) or (re)installation of software in some appropriate order to leave the correct settings.
I have 'repaired' my Office 2010 installation without any observed affect on behavior.
    Thanks
    Ray
(I've just seen a suggestion that Office 2010 SP2 may fix this issue. I've requested to test this, but whilst this may fix my problem, rolling it out to
other users may be more problematic. In the meantime, other suggestions of solutions are welcome)

    Hi,
According to your description, it is a good way to do a test about office 2010 SP2, here is an article about this issue- limitations of using the OneDrive for Business sync app with Office 2010 applications , it may help you.

  • Connect to MS Office button is Grayed out - for both Office 2010 and Office 2013

    Hi
I have recently implemented Sharepoint 2013 Standard for a customer.
I have got everything to work so far except one important thing, from any Ms Word or Ms Excel application save as SharePoint is missing. While having a closer look I noticed that Connect to Office button is grayed out in SharePoint.
During the initial setup, I created the site collection using Team Site template under collaboration. All researching is pointing me to user profile setup with my site host under enterprise section in site collection.
I have confirmed that the clients are opening sharepoint from 32bit browser and they have sharepoint handler add on enabled in IE. I have also followed the below guide
    https://mywinsysadm.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/sharepoint-connect-to-office-for-new-document-creation/
However, I cant actually see any user profile feature as the guide suggests, I can only see "create personal site" under manage profile service section.
I have searched & searched and I am not finding any solutions to this problem.
can someone point me to the right direction please? is it purely because the site collection is not a My site Host?
All I need is for users with Office 2010 or Office 2013 to be able to save a document directly in sharepoint.
Note - Connect is outlook is working fine though.

    Hi jawad,
As navigating to a SharePoint Library and clicking 'Connect to Office', the link to document library is added to
http://[mysites]/_layouts/15/MyQuickLinks.aspx. So, you need to make sure you have your personal site.
After creating your personal site, please visit
http://[mysites]/_layouts/15/MyQuickLinks.aspx, check whether it can open well.
More information about creating MySite, you can refer to:
    http://blog.sharedove.com/adisjugo/index.php/2012/07/25/visual-guide-setting-up-my-sites-in-sharepoint-2013/
Then go to IE Options->Programs->manage add-ons, make sure all add-ons related to SharePoint are enabled.
Here is an article, it may be useful for you:

  • MODI (Document Imaging OCR) in Microsoft Office 2010 and later.

What seriously possessed Microsoft developers to remove this feature when there are no other alternatives except to install an old Sharepoint designer.  Tons of end users require OCR capabilities with scanned TIFF files.  Why remove something
like this? I don't understand why they would make such a ridiculously stupid move like this.

    Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) is removed in Microsoft Office 2010. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please refer to this KB article. In addition to install SharePoint Designer 2007, it provides some other methods to install MODI on the computer. It also describes the alternative methods that you can use to regain the functionalities of certain MODI

  • Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2003 Signatures Disappearing

    Hello,
we have a multiple domain controller environment with many locations. We run both Server 2003 and Server 2008 with Exchange 2003 being our main Mail server and Exchange 2007 running Webmail. When a workstation is first imaged, Office 2003 installs via
GP, and then the user can install Office 2010 through SCCM as an upgrade. We do not use roaming profiles, although we do redirect their "my documents." The problem is occuring for both users of Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2010. Our problem is that users
signatures are disappearing, meaning they create a signature, then they restart the computer and the signature is no longer in the signatures folder. We have tried recreating their Outlook profile, reimaging the computer, deleting their entire profile on the
computer, none of which has stopped this from happening. Every time after they create the signature, it will go away. Sometimes it will stay for a few days, and then disappear again. This is not happening for all users, only a random selection of users. These
users are not administrators on their physical workstations. Thank you
    Joshua

    Hi,
For signature information, it store in following location, make sure user can access this folder:
    Windows Vista & 7:    drive:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures
    Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 :    drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures
And also check registry entry, if there has any information about “signature”, please delete test if it helps.

  • Office 2010 and CRM

    Hello,
we plan to roll out Office 2010 soon. Has anyone experience what impacts Office 2010 will imply to our CRM solution. Office 2010 is not released by SAP yet.
    Best regards,
    Gerald

I have applied note 1508007 and have had different issues depending on the version of Outlook.
    Windows XP running Outlook 2003:
    1.  My language is English (US) so outlook defaults my country to United States of America.  However, whenever I try and synchronize from outlook to CRM, I get a warning pop-up saying region XX not defined for country.  Then it creates the contatct and account in CRM but does not put an address on the Account.   It doesn't aknowledge United States of America as a country.  if I manually go into the contact and adjust the contact to US then it works fine and adds the full address information to the account in CRM.
SAP says this is working as designed.  I have not closed my message with them yet because I feel there is a bug with it.
    Outlook 2007:
    1.  When I install the synchronization sofware, the button SAP CRM does NOT show up in my outlook menu.  So I cannot synchronize my Outlook 2007 contacts into CRM since there is no button to start the synchronization.  When I click on Tools/Options I do not get any tab for synchronization either.  Somehow the synchronization software is not being installed properly on Windows 7 machines running Outlook 2007.
I opened a message with SAP on this one as well.
If any one has figured out any of the above issues, please let me know.
    Thanks
    Angie.
