Officejet 7410 All-in-One won't start

Have used the printer successfully for four years.
Recently:
1) 'On' button stopped operating.  Need to plug/unplug the power cord to turn the printer on/off.
2) When power is applied to the printer it appears to be in a perpetual boot.  It does the following:
a) The Color Graphics Display displays the HP Invent logo and an animated grey-scale bar for about 1 minute.
b) Then the Color Graphics Display greys out for a few seconds.
c) Repeats steps a and b until power is removed.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

Help! I've spent hours researching this and can't find a solution...
I upgraded 3 Intel Macs in the house to Snow Leopard last weekend. All went differently...but all were successful. I found that the connection to my HP Officejet 7410 (connected wirelessly to 802.11g Airport Express (AEX) network) was "broken". Deleted then "re-intalled". Documents could now be printed. I then found out scan function was "broken". Figured out how to scan with new Snow Leopard "baked-in" driver and Scan tab...different, but it worked.
Then, tonight, on the eve of my birthday, I was given the green light to purchase an Airport Extreme 802.11n (dual-band) base station (AEBS). I set it up and got 2.5X speed on the two 802.11n laptops in the household. Glorious! Then I went to work to ensure print and scan functions were still operational. Tried to re-connect HP OJ 7410 to wireless network...when it found the network it asked for the "WEP" key (on previous AEX network I was secured utilizing WPA2/Personal)...I entered the WPA2/Personal password (same as previous network) and got the error message "Key must be 5 or 13 characters OR 10 or 26 length with 0-9 and A-F (hex)". So I turned off the wireless radio and instead plugged the 7410 into the AEBS via USB. Deleted the previous queue and re-installed. Found the printer no problem but now without the Scan tab or function anywhere...despite following all the recommendations found both on the HP site and here in the Apple Forums. I print fine. Can't for the life of me figure out what the problem with the now lost again Scan function is.
Only strangeness I can think of is the following: When setting up the network(s), I had the option of naming the 5 ghz band something different. I set mine up with the same name of the 2.4 ghz network with 5ghz in parenthesis (i.e. BobbyG and BobbyG (5 Ghz)).
Sorry for the long post but we need the scan function in the house for my wife's teaching purposes. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Very Respectfully,
    Bobby G.

  • HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One no longer 'automatically' print double sided

After upgrading my PC from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit my HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One printer no longer prints double-sided automatically.  When sending something to print I am presented with only two options: Print One-Sided or Manually Print on Both Sides.  If I choose the latter I have to manually reload the paper when prompted.  I have tried searching for updates and downloading drivers but nothing  has resolved the problem.  I've even gone into printer properties printing shortcuts and changed the settings in "Print on Both Sides" to 'automatically' and still I am prompted to reload the paper.  It is a real pain when I have to print a very large slide pack especially when the printer decides to pick up two sheets at the same time.  I have spoken to HP and they say my printer is old and they cannot help me.  It is about 8-10 years old.  Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Hello Toosweet
In Printer Preferences make sure the duplexer is enabled. Do you have the full feature software installed?

    Hi @balubeto
I located a software removal utility for you but if you have other HP printers or scanners you may perform the more basica uninstall.
    Software and Driver Removal Utility
Uninstalling the Printer Software (more basic uninstall)

    Hi,
Here are a couple of things to try.  I would first start with downloading and running the Print Diagnostic Utility.  IF this doesn't clear it up, then try the document on Problems printing from the internet.

  • Hp officejet 6500 all in one won't print in black

I cleaned the printhead to eliminate clogs which had worked in past.  Did not work this time.
Purchased and installed a new printhead and ran a report which showed the black ink working.
Ink levels in all cartridges, however, were low.  Purchased new 920 XL cartridges and installed.  Ran an alignment and said it failed.
Ran the cleaning of the printheads and then ran a report and still no black ink.
Ran status and quality reports and now the black will NOT print (when it was printing the day before with the new printhead).
HELP!  Why will the black suddenly not print.  The printhead is new and the hp ink catridges are all new.

    Hi, Jamison ~
I had tried many of the things you noted (from the link) and at one point got an acceptable quality report (that included black) after replacing the printhead so it was particularly frustrating to then go back to no black after loading ink cartridges.  I had done the partial reset too (as I had seen that recommendation on a forum) waiting hours for it to sort itself out wasn't acceptable when I needed to print something.
I have to admit that I finally threw in the towel and just got another printer.  I need to be able to have something reliable and tire of always sorting through how to unclog; clean; reset; order parts; get new cartridges; run through mutiple cleaning printhead cycles.  The lack of black print just seems to happen too often.
Thank you, though!  I truly appreciate you taking the time to write a thorough response for me.

Hi @jfw , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing print issues.  I would like to try and help.
It appears you have covered much of the troubleshooting already.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend this document on Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer Series.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, the best recommendation I could make would be to contact HP directly.  You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @CFHPhilly ,
I read about the issues you're having with installing your Officejet 7410. Could you check the instructions in the guide below to ensure you have set up the printer the way the guide recommends? If not, please try out those steps and if you run into any issues, let me know what they are exactly and also which operating system you are running on your computer.

  • Officejet 6210xi all in one won't print in color

I didn't use the color part of my printer for a year, then I bought and installed a new color ink cartridge. However, it still won't print in color. It will print in black but only black, no greyscale. I've tried cleaning the heads, resetting the system, I've double checked to make sure the ink cartridge is the correct one and it is. I've looked through all the faq's in the printers menu but nothing works. Any help is appreciated, I'm about to give up and just get a new printer.

    Hi @Jaim_Faul ,
I see that you are having issues printing in color. You tried a new cartridge and have the same results. I would like to help
    you out today.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try these steps to see if it will resolve the issue.
    Missing, Faded, or Dull Colors.
Go to Step 3 - Print a diagnostic page. Just to see if it is a hardware or software issue.
You mentioned that you cleaned the cartridge heads, I still included this document to make sure all the areas for the electrical contacts were cleaned on the cartridge and inside the printer. Cartridge Error. Disregard the title.

  • HP 7410 All in One - Won't boot up

My 7410 Printer displays the HP Invent screen when powering on, but never goes past that.
I have tried the #6 option instructions with no success.  Any other ideas before I take it in for service?
    Thanks,
    Michele

Yes I did.  Go to http://callitout.com/quotes/index.php/kick-it-to-the-curb/68/printer-wont-boot-up-start-cycle/ and follow the pictures.  Basically what you do is disconnect the wireless plug from the main board and voila! the printer will boot.  God forbid HP would tell you to do this.  They'd rather sell you a $200 refurbished printer.

  • Officejet 7410 All-in-One photo printing thin white lines

I haven't had this problem before.
First, I had 2 thin white lines near the left edge of the paper -- 1st, 1 1/4 inches from left edge;  2d, 2 1/2 inches from left edge.  I cleaned the cartridges automatically.
Then, I had only one thin white line, 1 1/4 inches from left edge.  I am loathe to try the automatic cleaning again because I'm using a LOT of color ink on this photo.
I need to know whether it will help to: 1) clean automatically again,
                                                                2) clean the cartridges by hand with filtered water, or
                                                                3) is there some other solution? (What is it?)
    kaylaesq

Are the lines across the short length of the paper or the long length?  ("Left" side means different things if you are printing in portrait or landscape.)
If the lines are along the long axis of the paper it may be caused by aerosol fogging of the encoder strip.  In this case you could clean the encoder strip as described in this post.  Do not clean the encoder if the lines run across the page in the short direction (the way the printhead moves).  If you do need to clean the encoder heed the warnings, the encoder is fragile and can be damaged by rough handling or aggressive cleaning.

  • I am not able to scan on my Officejet 7410 All-in-one

I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor finding and fixing scan problems and it keeps getting hung up at the point where is says that there is a registry problem found with device registration and it says I should unistall and reinstall the software from the Full Feature Software from Customer Care (recommended) which I have done 4 times and it still will not scan

    Hi,
Thanks for reporting the issue. There are few ways you can do scanning from the Printer
    1. Make sure you downloaded latest HP software and installed it.
    2. From PC, launch HP printer application (Start->Program files-HP->printer model->Hp Model series) or the solution center and double click scan link to do scanning
    OR
    3. Any third party applications like Paint program, click file and choose insert the image from scanner.
    4. If it is connected via network, then you can use your browser to make scan, Here is the video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HbWpgww5I-M
If any of above option doesn't work, then download the print and scan doctor application and run it.

  • No Drivers for officejet 7410 all-in-one?

I am having wireless AND driver issues with my previously working perfectly printer.  To bypass the wireless issue I thought I'd just connect with USB to at least get printing capability while I resolve wireless issue.  I had deleted the printer profile when I started having connectivity issues thinking if I started fresh it would be able to connect.  Except now, when I plug in my printer via USB and click on the printer when it shows up in the options, it says NO software update for this machine.  Is it even possible that HP has pulled the drivers?  It's not that old of a machine.  How do I find the drivers if the sofware update method does not work.  I'm on a mac OS 10.8.

The drivers can be downloaded at the HP site from the link below.

Usually a recommendation of unplugging the power. Then removing the ink cartridges. Connecting the power again. turn it on, then reinstall the ink cartridges. Then if the message/logo goes away you will be okay. If not, then contacting tech support at 1-800-474-6836 would be in order.
