OfficeJet Pro L7780 won't scan in PDF format

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7780 that HP sent me after giving up on fixing a 7310xi. I installed the software an received a "fatal error" message about error code 2203. It went ahead and installed OK - I thought. I even went to www.hp.com/support and searched for that error code. From what I gathered, it had something to do with registering it....so I didn't download their fix. After the installation finished, I went into the scan settings because I do scan quite a bit. I discovered that the PDF file option was not listed in the document scan settings. Only BMP, JPG, TIF, PNG, PCX and FPX are listed, which are, indeed, the file types that are available in the picture scan settings. It's as though the software loaded the same file types in both the document and picture scan settings.
I'm wondering now if the fatal error message actually related to this problem.
Any advice....short of uninstalling the entire package and starting over again?
Thanks....

DexterM,
Thanks for the speedy reply.
Yes, I do have Adobe Acrobat installed on my PC (It's a new Dell with all the bells and whistles). The error message was short and sweet, as I described in my original post.
Since posting that message, I have, in fact, uninstalled and reinstalled the software on my PC - same results. The only file types available in the scan document setup are the same ones in the scan picture setup. Also, the second time I installed it, I did not get that fatal error message. Lastly, I've installed the same software on three laptops in my house (all networked) and got the same results (no PDF file option in the scan document setup).
I'm stumped and I really dread talking to Mumbai to try to resolve this.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 won't print individual pages of a file

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7780 setup with wireless printing on my network and am using Windows 7 on a 64-bit computer with MSWord 2007. I'm trying to duplex print just specific corrected pages (like pages 7-8) from a file (of pages 1-22) and my printer just won't do it. When I select to print specific pages, the printer just sits there and then the print queue is apparently dumped, as the tray icon just disappears.  The printer will print only all pages of a file or nothing at all. What could be the reason for this and how do I correct it? Thanks, Patricia

  • Officejet pro 8600 won't scan through tray

    Good morning,
My printer won't scan anything through the the tray on top. I currently have an "HP Officejet Pro 8600" that I use for my mac. When I first set it up over 6 months ago I had no problem scanning anything through the tray on top but now after upgrading to Yosemite I have had nothing but problems. When I first installed Yosemite I wasn't able to print or scan but after fixing it with some updates I'm still not able to scan any documents through the tray only through the glass scanner I can scan things.
    Any Ideas?
Also when I choose HP scan it wont let change the presets from pictures to documents until after I have scanned something through.

  • Officejet pro 8610 won't scan in color

I'm using a Mac OS 10.6.8 and just connected my new HP Officejet Pro 8610.  It is only scanning in black and white.  I do not see a place to select for color (when you select copy you have that choice but not on scan).  It prints in color and makes color copies just fine.  I also cannot see a place where I can tell it which folder on the computer to save scans to.  Can you help me?

    Hi @just1me ,
I'd like to help you be able to scan in color.
Did you download and install the Full Feature Software or run the Apple Updates?
Here is a document for Scanning with the Full Feature HP Software in OS X v10.10 Yosemite.
Try the Apple Software to see if you have the same results.
Here is a screen shot for where to change the color settings, scanning with the HP Scan Software.
After clicking scan, click on the drop down to get more options.
After showing the preview you can select the Edit icon at the bottom for more features.
To save the scan, select the Send Icon.
    Hope this helps.
    Have a nice day!

  • Officejet Pro 8500A won't scan

Suddenly printer was no longer connected wirelessly.
After many tries at iuninstall/reinstall and following everthing I can find, I had my tech come out.
He was able to connect printer wirelessly through my network.
Howevder, he was unable to get the scan or any other function to work.
His determination is there is an HP known error that has caused this problem.
He said only HP can clear the error and reset my printer to scan.
Needless to say, I'm very unhappy. I really need to be able to at least scan.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 won't print

My unit will no longer print.  It was working fine for printing, and all of a sudden it stopped.
When I click print, or copy, or try any operation that will require the printer to print onto paper (faxing out still works, and scanning to a USB works) the printer gives me an error.  It feeds one sheet halfway through the printer, pauses and I can hear the cartridge move across the page, feeds the rest of the sheet and half of a second sheet, pauses, gives an a printer out of paper error, then feeds the second sheet the rest of the way through and waits for me to add paper and press OK.
I have tried pressing OK and went 7 times of the exact same cycle every time before giving up and cancelling.
I have taken off the access door on the back and reset it, thinking something could have jiggled loose.  I have unplugged from the device, from the outlet, let sit, unplugged, for upwards of an hour, and plugged everything back in.  All to no avail.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 Print,Copy,Scan,Fax

We have used the HP L7780 as a stand-alone copier (not connected to a computer or a network).
We are now ready to donate the unit, which still works well, but are concerned that its internal memory (or disk drive) may store images of copied data which is sensitive information.
How can we erase/overwrite that memory without destroying the operating system?
We want the printer/copier to be functional for the new owner.

    Hi TechUserOKC,
If you have only used the printer as a stand-alone copier without connecting it to a computer or network then you don't have to worry about images or data being stored in the unit. However, if you have faxed with this machine there is a chance images from faxes could be stored and saved in the internal memory. In this case you would need to restore the factory defaults on the printer.
Let us know if this helps.

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was

This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-one not scanning with Yosemite

I have searched for a workaround or fix to the scanning problem I'm having. I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro Retina and have loaded the latest printer drivers for the HP Officejet Pro L7780. The printer works ok, but I can't get the scanner to work. When I try, it says: "Failed to open a session on the device."

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7780.  Recently it won't allow me to print from websites,  The only way I can print is to 'copy' it to a word document then print.  ANy suggestions as this has only recently been an issue.

Trying running the Print Diagnostic Utility and see if it finds any errors http://http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-91799-1&lc=en&dlc=en... . If that does not fix the issue try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it.

  • Can't configure Wireless Connection to HP OfficeJet Pro L7780

I recently purchased both my iMac 24" 2.8GHz computer with OS x 10.5.2 and HP OfficeJet Pro L7780. I was able to use the HP setup CDs for my Windows laptops and configured them to use the printer in a wireless configuration.
The iMac is creating the headache (actually I think it's HP causing the headache). When I try to install HP's driver 9.7.1 using their utility, it is unable to detect the L7780 in a wireless configuration. The moment I connect via USB or wired Ethernet, the printer is detected without a problem. My printer is located @ 192.168.1.30, fixed IP address via a NetGear FSW308 switch. My iMac is fixed @ 192.168.1.100 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1
I spent hours on the phone with HP support and am still in the same spot... HP software won't find the printer when it is wireless. I can configure OS x 10.5.2 to use the internal L7700 series driver and put the IP address in the dialog box. The printer prints without issue using the OS printer drivers, but the other features such as scan and fax will not work without the HP software.
I can ping the printer and I can connect to the printer's EWS, but the HP software will not find the software.
Overall config: iMac wireless network connection to switch; Printer also wireless connection to switch.
So far HP is dumbfounded and all they can say is that I should call Apple because the printer software works fine when I connect the Ethernet or USB cables.
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Roland

Thank you for the thought. Yes, although my SSID is public, I have a WEP 128-bit security key. The printer, the iMac and my Windows laptops all connect to the wireless network without issue, as evidenced by my Windows laptops and iMac (if I use the driver included with OS X 10.5.2).
I can ping the printer from the iMac as well as connect to the printer's web interface, so connectivity exists. It is as if the setup software or the printer are trying to communicate using a port that or service that OS X may be blocking.
My OS X firewall is configured to accept all connections though... so that shouldn't be the issue unless there is a bug in accepting all connections.
    Thanks,
    Roland

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 - Network Letter Nightmare!

    Hello.
I'm hopin somebody can help with a problem I am having with my HP Officejet Pro L7780:
The printer is connected to my wireless network and all is well with this. The problem lies with the network letter that  it assigns itself to on my PC (Windows 7 Ultimate) for the in-built card reader on the printer. It is using the same letter as a virtual cd-rom drive on my PC - and I would like to move the letter the printer uses - and not the cd-rom drive, as I have my PC setup in a way where different types of drives are grouped together. Is there some way (possibly through the Windows registry) that would allow me to change the letter of the network drive (as it seems to automatically assgn one) and keep it using that new letter rather than interfering with the cd-rom drive and denying access to it every time Windows 7 boots?
Or alternatively disabling the card reader function on the printer as I don't use it?
Thanks to anybody who can solve this - as it is driving me mad!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I finally found a solution to this problem that works for me.
I too have an HP printer that was mapping its memory card slots to a Z: drive every time I booted my Windows 7 computer.
To change the mapping to another letter to free up the Z: letter, I placed a memory card into one of the printer memory card slots. I then disconnected the Z: drive from the printer mapping (right click the Z: drive in Windows Explorer and choose the Disconnect option).
I then used the "Map network drive " option on Windows Explorer toolbar to map the printer memory card slot to another drive letter. You have to know the network address (or name) for the printer to do this:   \\[printer network address or name]\memory_card (e.g.: \\192.168.1.108\memory_card). This address goes in the "Folder" textbox of the Map dialog window. Make sure the "Reconnect at logon" option is checked. And make sure you select a new drive letter that won't be needed for anything else later. Then click "Finish."
After I did this, the printer has continued to use the new drive letter at boot-up instead of Z:, leaving Z: free for other applications.
I don't think the above works if there is no memory card in one of the printer memory card slot.

  • Hp office jet pro 8600 won't scan

Wirelessly connected office jet pro 8600 won't scan in windows. I've checked to make sure proper services are running and they are. Started running diagnostics utility and the driver didn't check out but I have the correct one installed and the printer works just fine. Occasionally a message pops up and says that the computer has lost connection with the scanner. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi GradyIV,
I can help you scan from your Officejet 8600 to your Windows operating system. It sounds like you have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, is this whee you say the driver error?
I suggest using the following steps to delete the printer from device and printers, and the driver from the server properties.
    1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
If the issue persists let me know and I will do what I can to help.
