Once I close all windows and try to open another I get a message saying"Firefox is still running, you must close all browers before opening a new window. Why is this happening? I have the 3.5.10 Version

I close all Firefox windows. When I try to open another window later I get a message telling me that Firefox is still running and that I need to close all windows or restart my computer. I have this about 3 times a day this past week but prior to that it was maybe every one or 2 weeks. I had the 3.5.10 Version of Firefox, but have just updated to see if this stops this from happening. But what do I do if it doesn't stop it?

There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]

I have the same problem. Firefox won't unload regardless of how long I wait. Literally hours ... I must go in and 'end the process'. This has been a real hassle for a while now. Even considered giving up on firefox. Please look into this! An additional problem; I have to run firefox to get the updates, but I can't get the updates to take because I can't get firefox to unload so I can restart it.

• I try to open Firefox. Get error message saying Firefox is already running and needs to close - another error message say Firefox can't open

Turned on laptop (rebooted) after being away from it for a few hours. Went to open my home page. Error message popped up saying Firefox is already running and must be closed. I closed it and another error message popped up saying Firefox can't open - incomplete or missing files.
I went into Processes to close Firefox. Selected 'end process' but nothing happened.
Tried to use Internet Explorer but it just gets hung up. Cannot access anything.
And, because I can't open Firefox, I can't go a refresh.
Everything was working just fine a few hours ago.
Any thoughts?

• When I close out and try to come back on I am told that Firefox is still running, close it out. How can I close it out again...

When I am on the computer, and close out, sometimes I need to get back on. When I try to do so, I am told that Firefox is already running, close it out or restart. This is not right, and it should not be. Why can't I get back on line?

Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox. Generally, the cause is an Extension or a Plugin.

• When i try to restart firefox after i have closed it i get a message that firefox is still running Have to restart pc most of the time. Is a big wast of time.So have been using internet explorer most of the time

I must close firefox to run a program called c cleaner to remove unused items the browser saves on the computer . In order to clean up items on firefox i must shut firefox down then have the problem when i try to restart firefox after the the unused items are removed as the pc thinks firefox is still running. Have to reboot to start firefox. Other browsers are normal with no problems

I have sometimes seen Firefox give such a message, and do not know the reason for this. As you mention Internet Explorer I assume you are using a Windows machine.
Try using task manager to stop the firefox program.
Shortcut keys [Ctrl][alt][del] in XP, all pressed together will get task manager.
Another method is in Start -> Run keying in the command "Taskmgr" and hit Return
Once TaskManager is showing click the process tab and look for "firefox.exe", right click on it and use "end process" that should stop Firefox without you needing to restart the computer.
I am not sure why you need to use'' "c cleaner to remove unused items the browser saves on the computer "''
Tools -> clear recent history, may help

• I get an error message saying firefox is still running ut even after I reboot, same thing happens

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

Probably a "hung" firefox.exe process.

• Some times when I load Firefox, I get a message saying Firefox is already running. The only solution I have found is to reboot the system.

This happens when no other processes are running. Looks to me like their should be a option in the message to stop the running process.

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit".

• When I click on Firefox I get a message saying Firefox is already running, that I need to close Firefox or restart my computer and it still will not start, Why?

Firefox was working great until at least 3 persons were on my computer over the weekend. Now, when I want to open Firefox to go to the internet I get a message telling me that it is already running, that I need to close it down and if that doesn't work I should restart my computer. I have done all this, turned the computer off and back on many times, but I still get the same message. I do not know what the other people may have done when they were using my computer.

• Sometimes when I close Firefox and then try to reopen, I get a message that "Firefox is still running" and suggests I close it (which I have already done) or restart my computer, what do I do?

I really have had a problem with Firefox responding sluggishly for the last 6 months or so. I have difficulty opening it, closing it properly, freezing up. I don't have this problem with other programs, so don't know what is going on. Also I can't use my latest version....10 of Adobe Acrobat now. Dont know if that is my computers fault or Firefox. Any help will be appreciated.

• I close out Firefox then when I try to reopen it, I get a message that it is still running. I've had so many bugs with Firefox that I'm removing it and going back to IE.

The problems I've had with Firefox are numerous. It keeps running in the background and won't reopen. I have to go to the task manager and close it manually. Now, it won't load my iGoogle homepage. I was loading fine, earlier but now won't. My other browsers work fine. There are just too many bugs here.

• Firefox won't close. When I shut it down, the window closes, but I can't reopen it. I get a message that it is still running. When I shut down my PC, I get a message that Windows can't shut down Firefox.

• I deleted the profile and firefox4 and then downloaded firefox4 again. But when i click firefox it says Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process,or restart your system.HELP!

somehow i couldn't get rid of one website called www.searchqu.com/405 set as my homepage... I tried all solutions given to change the homepage but whenever i restarted firefox that homepage used to come automatically.. So, I deleted the profile (even from recycle bin!!) and deleted the firefox and downloaded it again hoping to get my problems fixed (which didn't happen!) because i'm getting dialog box saying- Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

You don't say which operating system you have installed?
Assuming it's Windows, right click a blank part of the Windows Taskbar and go to Task Manager. Then click the ''Processes ''tab, find '''firefox.exe''' and then right click it and choose '''End Process'''.

• When I use a GSI external antenna for WiFi I first get a message that "Firefox is already running but not responding etc", and then Firefox crashes. Can anyone help please?

Because of weak WiFi signal I need to use an external antenna (GSI USB wireless WIFI long range network adapter). My computer can see the signal clearly and shows that I am connected to the right network. But when I try to launch Firefox I get a message that "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." When I click "OK" Firefox tries to load websites but gives up and reports "Problem Loading". It looks like Firefox is having trouble "seeing" the signal from the external antenna. What do I need to do please?

Try Ubuntu support, I don't think your problem is with Firefox - it will use the connection that the Operating System "makes". I'm a real noob with Ubuntu myself, and don't think I can help you figure out the problem.
