Opentype features problem

Hi,
I am having some difficulty with getting two Opentype layout features to
work in Indesign 1.5 and Photoshop 6. The liga feature works perfectly, but
dlig and clig don't (though they preview correctly in Fontlab 4.5.1). I have
generated the font as a CFF-flavoured OTF font using either Macintosh,
Windows ANSI or FL's standard encoding but the problem remains. Yet all the
glyphs are available under Indesign's "insert character" dialog box. When I
opened the generated font in Fontlab, the features work as expected. Putting
all the lookups in the liga feature didn't solve the problem either (and
every glyph has a Unicode number attached to it). Do the alternate glyphs
need to be named according to their Unicode index?
I am using MacOS 9.2 with ATM Deluxe 4.6.1.

Problem with Ligatures / OpenType features...

Hi, I am writing a book using an OpenType font and encountering some problems.
Note - if pics don't show up below, click and they'll "enlarge" and appear.
This type of font has alternates, which can be edited using the "Typography Panel" as shown here:
OpenType fonts, such as Zapfino, have alternate characters. Here's the default settings for this font:
Here's what it looks like when you change the Typography settings...
The changes look fine in iBooks Author, but when I sync them to iBooks on the iPad OR on the Mac, the fonts revert back to their original settings (with different character shapes). I believe this problem just started, and it is messing up my layout a great deal!
When the book transfers to the iPad, it looks fine while the "loading..." screen is there. But as soon as the loading is done, the fonts jump from the chosen "Typography" setting to the default. This happens with downloaded OpenType fonts as well as pre-installed ones from Apple. It also occurs even when I am starting a fresh book from a template, so I don't think my file is corrupt. Any idea what I can do to help?

Tom, thank you for taking the time to check whether this works for you. I could have sworn it was working on my projects as recently as a few weeks ago, but perhaps I just didn't notice that when previewing the book on the iPad it was reverting to standard lettering.
I'm not using Zapfino in the book, but I knew it would be a good example since it is a default font. I was under the impression that iBooks supported OpenType features because they allow selection of special typography features in iBooks Author, those features display in iBooks Author, and there's some mention of turning on/off ligatures at this support site iBooks Author: Change text font, size, color, alignment, and spacing (see 2nd to last paragraph) ... ligatures being in the same panel as the other options.
However, if it doesn't work for you and doesn't work for me... it probably just doesn't work!

Typography panel: OpenType features don't work easily

I encounter similar problem with Cocoa typography panel in iWork applications. I say that because it seems to work with TextEdit. Before 10.5, iWork 08, like previous versions worked fine with my machine.
I tried several times to:
-- remove iwork prefs (users and general)
-- remove font caches with FontNuke
-- re-installing iWork from the cd + updates.
Still, typographic features (OpenType features) don't work well. They are inconsistent without to exactly understand what happening internally. Sometimes, Typographic panel is active and work well, until I switch to another font family. If I key a text like "Texte Th ct st ffi 0123456" and I try to apply globally ligatures, rare ligatures, various figures/figures spacings, it doesn't work or rare ligatures produce ligatures, or reverse. Weird.
Similar problems appear whatever I try them with Apple core fonts like Hoefler Text (AAT font), Adobe Pro fonts like Garamond Premier (OpenType Type 1 flavor), like Microsoft Vista fonts like Corbel (OpenType TrueType flavor), like my own fonts in .otf or .ttf with OpenType features.
There is an Apple bug or a problem on my Powerbook Pro with my 10.5 install??

You are right, typographic features whether AAT or OT do not behave consistently. Moreover, anything you draw with a smart glyph shaping (Apple MORX or Microsoft GSUB) may not be mapped back to source character specifications which are instead clipped in the Portable Document Format. Thus the more formal your typography, the more doomed your document is to disappear in search systems.

Opentype Feature Bug in InDesign CS6 until CC14.2

Hi,
my name is Sami Mandelbaum and I am doing a Hebrew font with a simple opentype feature (final position)
Hebrew has 5 letters that changed format when they are the last letter of the word (in the left, hebrew is a RTL language)
I am doing the the programation in microsoft VOLT and is very simple:
When the letters כמנפצ are followed by general pontuation (space, comma, period, collon and others) they become ךםןףץ.
The VOLT compilation works perfectly.
It works perfectly when I have tested in text viewer from DTL OTMaster 5.
It works perfectly in Indesign CS3-ME and CS4-ME.
In Indesign CS6, CC, CC14 and CC14.2 everything works except when it is followed by comma.
I tried everything but it does not work with comma at all.
Comma is a neutral unicode character like period and others and it should work.
I have experience in programming opentype features and workarounds but this time I'm stuck.
Could anyone confirm this bug, please?

Buttons don't work in DPS the same way they work in PDF. Specifically, the Show/Hide Buttons action is not supported. There are show/hide workarounds that involve combining buttons with multi-state objects, even if the multi-state object is invisible. Fixed Layout ePub – OpenType features not working

Hi,
I'm working on a ePub with fixed layout using InDesign CC 2014.
I have used some OpenType features like small caps and old style figures for numbers - but they don't appear correct in the ePub.
What can I do?

The small caps are wrong in Source Sans Regular. This are not correct small caps . This seams to be missing in the font.
But in italic style you will find correct small caps. They only work in InDesign not in ePub.
And if you look in my images (first from InDesign, second from Radium - iBooks looks the same) you can see many difference between InDesign and ePub.
Note the word "pfiffig", the I at the beginning of "Igor" in second paragraph and the "a" in the italic paragraph.
This is very frustrating!

You have a misunderstanding. You have NO CONTROL at all over the objects you are displaying. Reflection is the key, yes, but not on the object side. Instead on the cell renderer side.
The solution calls for the invention of a ListCellRenderer that allows the user of the render to render on whatever he wants, field or method result. The user tells you what he wants to render on and you render on it. Furhtermore if he can change the target and have your rendere adapt on the fly, that would be better.

HP Smart Web Printing feature, problem with IE7 and FireFox3

"HP Smart Web Printing" problem with Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 3I have a laptop that came with: Windows Vista Home Premium, Internet Explorer 7, FireFox 1.9. Everything worked fine.
Recently I bought a "HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One" printer that came with a free software "HP Smart Web Printing".
Smart Web Printing worked fine with FireFox 1.9 browser. I liked it very much, because with it, I could print only the portions from the web page that I want, thus saving on inks. It really does more than that.
With IE 7, Smart Web Printing was a disaster. IE 7 stopped working. Every time I closed a web browser window, IE7 would stop working and start all over again. It happened all the time.
On suggestion from Microsoft Windows help desk I "Reset IE Setting". This solved the IE 7 problem , but it also removed the Smart Web Printing feature.
Next, one day I downloaded latest version of FireFox browser "FireFox 3". Once again I lost the Smart Web Printing Feature, because it was not compatible with FireFox 3.
Now here I am with no "Smart Web Printing" feature at all.
Any suggestion how can I get "Smart Web Printing" feature back. I love the feature

March 27th 2009 I've just downloaded HP Smart Web Print onto an HP a6500f desktop system running Vista-64. I first installed it as a limited user and I get no icon in the IE7 taskbar. I examined the manage add-ons dialog and it was installed but the toolbar configuration has no control icon for SWP icon.
Then I logged off and logged on as a privileged user and downloaded again and tried to install. This 2nd installation actually REMOVED my first installation.
So I then downloaded for a third time and installed and it finished installing but there was no SWP icon in the tool bar. I examined the Manage Add-Ons dialog and saw one in there on the left side. I transfered the inactive icon to the active side of the dialog and then I immediately had TWO SWP icons in the task bar. (*mumble grumble*). So I removed one and all is OK now as long as I use the IE7 as a privileged user.
If I go back to being a limited user (not an unreasonable thing to do is it?) I don't have an SWP icon. Trying to install SWP application again only cause it to want to remove the existing installation.
I'm not very impressed with this behavior.
Is there anything that can be done to get SWP to work for limited users?

Restore Purchases feature Problem

Hello,
We've got the problem during apple approve process. The app is Multifolio with newsstand subscription.
They said "We found that your app offers In-App Purchase(s) that can be restored but does not include a “Restore Purchases" feature to allow users to restore the previously purchased In-App Purchase(s), as specified in the “Restoring Purchase Products” section of the In-App Purchase Programming Guide"
The app include subscription and it works. Even the start dialog to restore purchases presented.
But there are no button on the right to restore purchases.
Shared secret is ok.
It is not the first our app. In previous apps this button presented from the beginning.
We can't understand the reason. Please help

And what has this to do with Adobe? If you're talking about e-pub or whatever, ask in the relevant forums.

Are you talking about future in-app purchases or people who have already purchased your app before you added the in-app purchase feature?

Yes. When your app completes the in-app purchase, it should forward the receipt to your server, which will verify it with iTunes, and complete the transaction. All the details are here.

HTML5 Zoom Feature Problem on Safari iOS iDevices?

I am building my own website in HTML5. If you have an iPhone (I use a 4S) you can check it out here: http://bigapplephototours.com/html5/
When the website is first loaded up in portrait mode, the website fits nice and neat within the iPhones dimensions (if small). When you turn the iPhone to landscape mode, the website fills in this space nicely too.
The problem happens when you turn the iPhone back into portrait mode. Using Safari, the website automatically zooms in and you can't see most of of the website. When you turn the phone, yet again, to landscape mode, the website stays in zoom mode. I don't want this.
I only want the zooming feature in Safari to work when the screen is tapped. Check out http://www.apple.com and http://www.neonsky.com. These are two websites, when viewed with Safari on the iPhone, that stay unzoomed.
Can someone please provide me with the correct HTML5 code that will fix this problem? So far, my google searches have yielded several other people with the same coding problem. Every fix I have tried has not worked. Please, if you know how to fix this problem, would you please give me a detailed coding fix?

Clicker feature problems

Under "Settings" -> "Clicker"
I can only change it from ON to OFF. My other ipods usually allow you to select "Speaker" or "Headphones" as well. On the 5G you can only turn it on or off. The sound seems to be coming from both the headphones and the speakers at the same time.
Is this a feature that wasn't implemented on the 1.0 5G firmware but will be fixed in the future, or do I have a dud?

My black 60gb ipod video has the same problem. clicer is eitehr on or off, what happened to headphones? What is up with that?

Mail swipe feature - Problem

Is there a way to disable the swipe feature in Mail on the itouch/iphone. It is set up to allow for more/flag/archive (or more/flag/delete). I never delete emails, but i do flag important ones often. So my problem is that a partial swipe brings up the three options and puts two very opposite options right next to each other. Flag and Trash. That seems like a poor choice, design wise. A slight miss with my finger placement and an important email disappears from my inbox. Bad design in my view. This was true of the previous version too but it was a drop down list with the same problem of two very opposite options right next to each other.
is there a way to allow for quick flagging but not risking deleting the same email.

There is not a way to turn off the swipe all the way to delete, but I do have an idea for you if you constantly flag items. What you can do is go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Swipe Options and change the flag option to swipe left so that way you have a quick way to flag messages by swiping left and you wouldn’t even need to tap Flag, just swipe and it is done.

Activate web publishing feature problem

I am trying to use the object model to activate the site collection publishing feature, and the web publishing feature on a new site. Here is a snippet of my code.

I have browsed to the site and verified the Publishing feature is activated at the site collection level. I have double checked that the GUIDs are correct. Does anyone have an idea why I am getting this error and cannot activate the publishing feature on
the web level?

Acrobat X booklet feature problem

When I print from acrobat x using the booklet feature the pages impose properly but they do not butt together at the spine. The book is 6 x 6 inches and I want to print imposed printer spread PDF's onto a 8.5" x 14" sheet. I can't seem to get the spines to but together.
Using a Mac. Acrobat 10.1.6. Imac using 10.6.8

Indian language - Gujarati OpenType font problem

Hi All,
I have designed a Gujarati opentype font using Fontographer 4 on a macintosh machine, version 10.5.8, generated a TTF file of it and wrote the tables for that font using VOLT on a Windows machine. When I test the font in notepad, word on windows or openoffice in Linux, no positioning or substitution tables appear. But all these rules are working well when tested in the proofing tool of VOLT.
Can anyone please tell why is could be happening? Am I missing some thing in the process?

Am little bit confused after reading your reply.As jui mentioend she have designed the font using fontographer and wrote the tables by using VOLT (in windows)
So whether rendering engine is necesary for the fonotgrapher, as per my knowledge fontographer lets to design, edit, and manipulate fonts(Pls correct me if am wrong).And all the posiitoning and tabling happens in Windows by using volt, where bydefault uniscribe support is there.
Pls clarify this.Also If it's the issue is any convertion tool is avialable for converting the font from MAC to Windows.Or wil it possible to do by fontographer or volt.
And if we ported this font to fontforge, with the Pango or ICU backend support( in Linux), whether this issue will resolve ?
PS:Am just a beginer in this domain,starts learing with jui.So pls apologise me if am wrong.
