Oracle Connection Via Command Prompt

Hi All,
I am in a situation where I will have to test a connection to a Oracle Database by using just command prompt (Windows Server 2008) as I am not allowed to install any Oracle client tools. The Oracle server is located on a different server machine on the network. I need to do this before I update my web application code.
When I search google I can only see that it is possible via SQL PLus/Oracle SQL Developer/Oracle Client Tools. But I can't install any of those due to restrictions.
Can anyone please help me how do I achieve this by just using Command Prompt in Windows.
Thanks.

I think the point is that no installation in traditional sense need to take place, instead you copy or unzip a few files.
11.2 Instant Client lite with sqlplus (32-bit for Win) is around 20 MB.

  • Satellite L - Can I add new accounts via command prompt?

    Is there a way that I can add new accounts to the machine via the command prompt on the "recovery" screen?
    (When you boot up into recovery mode and select command prompt)
    I tried the normal commands "net user username /add" but the accounts are not added to the machine.
    Is there another command that can be used?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    Im not sure if it will work using the Recovery console. In my opinion it's not possible.
    As far as I know you can add the user and the password using the CMD but this would function only when Windows OS has been loaded.
    In such case you can use this command to add user account: +net user username /add+
    If you want to add a password to the new user account then you have to use this path: +net user username password /add+

  • How to return a specific date/time range and last event details, when checking the event log via command prompt

    I am new to scripting (literally started reading/learning scripting a few hours ago), and I am stuck in trying to get my current script/command to filter a specific date range.
    * Note: I am working with Server 2003 and 2008; because of the environment I am in, a lot of scripts (such as Powershell and VBScript) don't work; trying to stick with command line, as it appears to be the only thing that functions correctly in my environment
    I am trying to search the System log in event viewer, for the most recent server reboot. Here is the command that I am currently running:
    ===========================================================
    C:\Windows\System32\cscript C:\Windows\System32\eventquery.vbs /L System /FI "id eq 1074"
    ===========================================================
    When run, the output looks like this:
    ===========================================================
    Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.6
    Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1996-2001. All rights reserved
    Listing the events in 'system' log of host 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
    Type Event
    Date Time    Source
    Information 1074
    12/18/2013 2:48:06 AM    USER32
    Information 1074
    11/20/2013 3:25:04 AM    USER32
    Information 1074
    10/23/2013 2:06:09 AM    USER32
    ===========================================================
    What I would like it to do is only show events that have happened in the last seven days, as well as show the event details if it does find an event that matches the criteria.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    Nick

    I would prefer using Powershell , you can use below code
    function Get-EventViewer
    param(
    [string[]]$ComputerName = $ENV:COMPUTERNAME,[string]$LogName,[int]$eventid
    $Object =@()
    foreach ($Computer in $ComputerName)
    $ApplicationEvents = get-eventlog -logname $LogName -cn $computer -after (Get-Date).AddDays(-7) | ?{$_.eventid -eq "$eventid" }
    foreach ($event in $ApplicationEvents) {
    $Object += New-Object -Type PSObject -Property @{
    ComputerName = $Computer.ToUpper();
    TimeGenerated = $event.TimeGenerated;
    EntryType = $event.EntryType;
    Source = $event.Source;
    Message = $event.Message;
    $column1 = @{expression="ComputerName"; width=12; label="ComputerName"; alignment="left"}
    $column2 = @{expression="TimeGenerated"; width=22; label="TimeGenerated"; alignment="left"}
    $column3 = @{expression="EntryType"; width=10; label="EntryType"; alignment="left"}
    $column4 = @{expression="Source"; width=15; label="Source"; alignment="left"}
    $column5 = @{expression="Message"; width=100; label="Message"; alignment="left"}
    $Object|format-table $column1, $column2, $column3 ,$column4 ,$column5
    $Object.GetEnumerator() | Out-GridView -Title "Event Viewer"
    You can do a function call like
    Get-EventViewer -LogName system -ComputerName "computername" -eventid "2017"

  • Making connection to Oracle 9i via SQL Plus - Mark

    Hi,
    I am unable to connect to oracle 9i via dos prompt or SQL Plus.
    I installed the satabase on windows.
    The SID is obiwan. Please help, already browsed similar topics and its not happening.
    Thanks in advance.

    The Listener is the process that is listening for incoming remote connections to the DB(s).
    Database and Listener have Windows services, and services have to be started. Also, from DOS prompt you can do :
    C:\> lsnrctl stat
    to see if the Listener is active : the result should be the list of active DB(s).
    To connect locally to the DB do the following :
    C:\> set ORACLE_SID=obiwan
    C:\> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    The result should be something like SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Dom Apr 10 16:58:32 2005
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    Connected to:
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
    JServer Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
    SQL>If the result is something like : SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Dom Apr 10 17:01:29 2005
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    Connected to an idle instance.
    SQL>                                                                          then it means that the DB is not up. In this case try :
    SQL> startup
    That way you are connected as sysdba, you can startup and shutdown the DB, create users, and so on. Do not use this connection to create objects (tables, indexes and so on) :
    create an user, using the command "create user" (See [url http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/toc.htm]Sql documentation), and connect as that user, for example
    SQL> conn scott/tiger
    or, at DOS prompt
    C:\> sqlplus scott/tiger
    If you create a TNS alias, as I said before, you can use that as connection string from DOS prompt
    C:\> sqlplus scott/tiger@<TNS alias>
    or using SqlPlus in the Oracle menu.

    Thanks & Regards,

    I have got the resolution of the problem. In my environment, the Powershell.exe which was being launched from command prompt, was 32 bit exe, while it was needed 64 bit exe.
    It was occuring because in system path there was 32 bit powershell.exe was present. So, after replacing the exe with 64 bit exe, the problem was solved.
    Thanks for the help provided above..

  • Can config.bin be "restored" from a command prompt?

    After trying to find ways to configure the router using batch commands, I've realized that configuring the router with port forwarding enabled and backing up the router to config.bin, and then configuring it with port forwarding disabled and backing up the router to config.bin, I now have an ON and OFF. If there is a way to load config.bin to the router via command prompt it would achieve what I'm looking for.
    Thanks,

    Sure.
    The Messenger project at Jakarta already has Producer and Consumer classes that can be run from the command line to send / receive messages via JMS. So you don't even need to write any code ;-)

  • Only 'oracle' account can connect via sqlplus

    Currently, only the linux oracle account can connect to the

    There is nothing to do with your .profile, default password, etc.
    After Oracle installation via the installer (orainst), have you
    run root.sh? Root.sh will set the setuid/setgid bit on for the
    file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle. If it is not set, only the owner
    (i.e. oracle/dba) can connect.
    Fix the problem by rerun root.sh. If it doesn't help, simply run
    the commands:
    $ chown oracle:dba $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
    $ chmod ug+s $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle

  • Connecting to oracle10g from command prompt

    Hello All,
    Please reply to following doubts/queries. Any help is highly appreciated.
    1.Without having any other tool, is it possible to connect to a remote oracle10g server from windows command prompt.
    I have used following command in MySQL database for this purpose:
    "mysql -u database_user_name -ppassword".
    2. My second question is about Oracle SQL developer(version 1.5.4). I am having this tool installed on my machine.
    So, how can i now connect to remote Oracle 10g server from command prompt.
    My purpose is to run batch file thereby calling a stored procedure.

    I have used following command in MySQL database for this purpose:
    "mysql -u database_user_name -ppassword".AFAIk, we can't correct in such ways. I might be wrong too, since I have not tested with mysql anytime.
    2. My second question is about Oracle SQL developer(version 1.5.4). I am having this tool installed on my machine.

    My purpose is to run batch file thereby calling a stored procedure.You need to configure the appropriate connections identified - user/ password - wher DB host is residing IP address and port number and sid of oracle instance. Carry out those things then you can connect to DB.
    Execute the batch files from DB Server - its better approach.
