Oracle Database not working

Hi Gurus,
I tried to start up the database by issuing the command on my Dev server
c:\>sqlplus/nolog
connect / as sysdba
"startup,"
  and I  am getting  the following error:
ORA-03113 end-of-file on communication channel
And the second time I issued the command, I got the following errors:
ORA-24324 service handle not initialized
ORA-01041 internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist.
O.S IS WINDOWS 2003.
ORACLE RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.2.0
Pls advice.
Thanks.

  • Default value from Oracle database not working

    Hi Everyone:
    We use JHeadstart 10.1.3.1.
    I have an Oracle table that has 2 fields that are both mandatory and have default values. We have been spending a lot of time putting this type of business logic in the database so that these checks do not have to happen in the JHeadstart Application.
    The mandatory field is being brought into our Entity Object (as the mandatory checkbox is checked), but the default values do not seem to be getting pulled from the database. Even though the default value is defined at the database level, when trying to insert a new row into the table, a value must be filled in by the User running the application, otherwise an Oracle error is received that it is a mandatory field and must have a value. This happens when I am running the ApplicationModule by right-clicking it and clicking on "Test" as well as when running the Application
    Does JDeveloper not pull default values from the database? Is there something I am missing?
    Just for clarity, we have developed a re-usable library of entity objects that imports all of our Business Components similar to the following link
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b25947/bcadvgen007.htm#CHEFECGD This is working well, but want to mention it here in case it is a consideration.
    Thanks in advance.

    Steven:
    Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Good to hear from you. Hope you are keeping warm in the Netherlands!
    During synchronization or initial creation of the Business Components from the Oracle tables, JDeveloper brings over the mandatory attribute as defined in the database.
    Would it be possible, in a future release, to also bring over the default values found in the database and assign them to the "Default" property in the Entity Objects Editor?
    I always like to follow the best practice of defining something in one spot to make maintenance as easy as possible and avoid manual steps.
    Thanks very much for your time.

  • Oracle Streams not working after database restart

    Hi,
    I am new at this so hope that somebody out there can give me some guidance.. I have managed to setup the streams properly on both my 10g database as per the scripts given in StreamsAdminConfig.sql and StreamsSetup.sql.. It worked beautifully on both direction.
    However when i restarted DB1.. suddenly the replication become just one directional only, namely from DB1 -> DB2. I have tried to do DBMS_STREAMS_ADM.STOP_APPLY, STOP_CAPTURE, START_APPLY, START_CAPTURE many times on both DB1 and DB2 but still it works only in one direction.
    Later I tried to restart both databases and not it does not work at all (both direction).. Tried restarting the apply and capture process many times too but get no success. Any idea what I could check or try to find out what when wrong. Thanks.

  • Custom DB authentication to an application from Oracle Portal not working.

    Hi All,
    We have a Portal customized and integrated to LDAP for SSO.
    From the portal, we have a link that takes to another custom application that requires another level of authentication. We have implemented this authentication as custom Database based authentication.
    When user login to the portal and access this link, he will be directed for authentication again. This custom application has been installed on a different OC4J instance while Oracle Portal is running in a different OC4J instance.
    Issue is though user details are being propagated to the custom application page, we are receiving an error saying authentication failed.
    In the OC4J instance specific for this custom application, we have configured jazn.xml to use custom authentication.
    Below is the code:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8' standalone = 'yes'?>
    <!DOCTYPE jazn PUBLIC "JAZN Config" "http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/dtds/jazn-9_04.dtd">
    <jazn provider="XML" location="./jazn-data.xml" default-realm="jazn.com">
    <property name="role.mapping.dynamic" value="true"/>
    <property name="custom.loginmodule.provider" value="true"/>
    </jazn>
    and in jazn-data.xml, we gave the role mapping.
    But the problem is when the link to the custom application is accessed, it seems like the custom autentication mechanism is not working.
    Can anyone throw light on this?
    Do we need to give the same configuration in the j2ee/home/config directory files also?
    Can we use both LDAP and custom DB authentication with in the same OAS setup. Remember as of now, Portal and custom application are running in different OC4J instances but within the same OAS.
    Any help in this regard will be highely appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Polling to Database not working sometimes

    Hi all,
    I have created an ESB project. I am using polling operation to poll Oracle database table. I am using update field i.e. logical delete opeartion under polling.
    I have deployed my process, its running perfectly fine. Polling is also happening.
    But the problem is that polling is not consistent. With the same set of values, sometime polling takes place and some time nothing happens, means no update in the table & no instanses on ESB Console.
    I have checked the log file too, but no such entry is there.
    To overcome this problem, Whenever I restart my SOA server(10.1.3.3) everything works fine. But after few hours same thing happens.
    Can anybody tell me, how to figure out what is happening.
    Thanks,
    Abhi...

    Hi chintan,
    I made this change in the logger configuration yesterday. Today morning when I logged into my ESB console and navigated to instance tab, I am not able to see any instance and I am getting this error:

    So I went to EM console, oc4j_soa->Administration tab->JDBC resorces->Connection pool->ESBpool(For ESB)->Test connection->Pressed Test button.
    I am getting this error:

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle8i Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production. And OS windows 2000.
    I installed oracle 8i. On restarting the server the database is not up automatically.
    I check the following services. All are in automatice mode.
    ORACLETNSListerner
    ORacleserviceSID
    Oraclewebassistant.
    I tried the following option also.
    ORADIM -edit -sid -startmode auto.
    still not working.
    Anyone please suggest the solution for this.
    Thanks & Regards

    Do you have any Antivirus installed in that server, sometimes antivirus blocks oracle autostart. try with uninstalling antivirus if it is .

  • Oracle database not starting up in oracle 10g RAC

    Hi!
    Recently I came across one problem with one node oracle 10g RAC.When the Oracle database is started,while opening it is giving ORA-03113:End of file on communication channel error.When I saw the the alert trace file and other trace files I found Disk group is exhausted error and it is not able to create .dbf files.Actually it is not a production server and I gave archive log destination in SAN.Even the spfile(content of init_database.ora) is in SAN..
    I tried Asmcmd utility to delete the archive log files.As the oracle is not available I am not able to asmcmd prompt.
    How to change the destination of archive log and to remove the old archive log files(as it is a testing environment we can remove) from SAN?Please let me know.

    I created a brand new Oracle VM Windows 2003 32-bit server, installed the Oracle drivers for paravirtualization, and whammo, the problem is still hereI'm sure, you miss something somewhere in the config. Right now, you're on supported configuration, you could either raise a SR to the support, or get help from your peer on Oracle Database General forum.
    Ah, but it's not a Windows issue. On a non-VM Windows box the database starts just fine all the time. Again, this is a known issue acknowledged by Oracle on the VMware side, I'm just surprised it exists on the Oracle VM side.Again, give more details about this "known issue". Never heard about that, eventhough I've been around for years.
    I was afraid you were going to ask that. I'll have to search for it again, but I think you can do the same as well....Well, I doubt you could find a Metalink note about Oracle on VMWare. So far, Oracle has always refused to support database on OS virtualized on VMWare (or any VM software other than Oracle VM). Based on that, you could be sure, your "known issue" is not an issue on Oracle VM.
    If you want more help, again, give more details about your issue.

  • DB13 Check database not working

    Hi All,
    Check DB and update stats from DB13 does not work. It comes back with the following error
    Can't exec external program (No such file or directory)
    Checked from OS level and found that brconnect -u / -c -f check works only from exe directory. If i execute the
    command from any other directory it comes back with an error saying command not found
    Upon further investigation found that this is an issue with env variable PATH
    The current value of PATH in env variable of sidadm is
    PATH=/oracle/SID/102_64/bin:/opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142/bin:.:/export/home/sidadm:/usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
    I want to change the value from usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe to /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run
    I checked all the csh and .sh profiles for sidadm user but i did not find any PATH variable,
    I can see DIR_LIBRARY and LD_LIBRARY_PATH but i cant see PATH variable
    Checked  the shell and it is /bin/csh
    checked .bash_profile and all i can see is this
    .bash_profile
    Get the aliases and functions
    if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
            . ~/.bashrc
    fi
    User specific environment and startup programs
    PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
    export PATH
    unset USERNAME
    Has any one faced this issue earlier??
    Meanwhile i have found a temporary fix for timebeing i.e i copied all  the br* executables from /sapmnt/SID/exe to
    /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe and after doing that DB13 - DBcheck and Update optimizer works fine.
    Regards,
    Ershad Ahmed

    Hi Sunil and Eric
    Thanks for the reply
    I checked all the profiles but no luck. I cant find the parameter.
    As i mentioned in my earlier post i have found a temporary fix by copying the br executables from /sapmnt/SID/exe to
    /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe and ran saproot.sh and that resolved the issue.
    If i can change my PATH variable to point to /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run that would be a permanent fix
    Regards,
    Ershad Ahmed

  • Oracle Database Not Starting Up Properly

    On VMware there's a known issue with Oracle databases on a Windows client not starting up properly all the time and a manual startup using oradim -start -sid <whatever> is required to get it fully running. I kinda figured that I wouldn't run into the exact same issue on Oracle VM. I created a brand new Oracle VM Windows 2003 32-bit server, installed the Oracle drivers for paravirtualization, and whammo, the problem is still here. I didn't find anything in this forum about the database not starting up, so I'm wondering if others are running into the same problem and how to resolve the issue. Thanks a bunch for your help.

Hmmm, doing it several time, and never seen such issue. Which "known issue" and by who are you talking about ?

Right now, you're on supported configuration, you could either raise a SR to the support, or get help from your peer on Oracle Database General forum.

  • ORACLE tags not working after 1.5.1 patch

    I have some logic in my template the looks up information from some Oracle tables. This logic worked fine in 1.5.0, however, after applying the 1.5.1 patch it does not perform the Oracle logic, but shows the Oracle code as HTML on the page. Here is the code in question: (This is not the entire code, but one HTML TD that comes before the Oracle code, and one HTML TD that comes after it)
    <TD align="center" valign="top"><A
    href="/pls/portal/PORTAL.home"><IMG src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#ihome.gif" alt="Home" border="0"></A></TD>
    <ORACLE>
    BEGIN htp.tableData(htf.anchor2('javascript:help_openTopic(''/insitehelp/Insite_Help.htm'', ''' || pkg_insite_general.help_link(v('APP_ID'), v('APP_PAGE_ID')) || ''')', '', '', '', '><IMG src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#ihelpl.gif" alt="Help" border=0'), 'center');
    END;
    </ORACLE>
    <TD align="center" valign="top"><IMG src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#ilogout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></TD>
    This is what displays on the web page:
    BEGIN htp.tableData(htf.anchor2('javascript:help_openTopic(''/insitehelp/Insite_Help.htm'', ''' || pkg_insite_general.help_link(v('APP_ID'), v('APP_PAGE_ID')) || ''')', '', '', '', '>

    Your removal of functionality in a bug fix has broken a production application for us. This does not seem like something that should have been done with a "patch"
    I have just read all that I can find on "shortcuts" and am not finding what I need.
    Here is what we are doing:
    We are using RoboHelp for our help content. We have a help icon and a help link on the header of the page. This is defined in our template. We have to have the name of the module (Page Alias) to link the page being run to the help content for that page. Since you do not have a system variable for page name or page alias, I have had to put this information into an Oracle table. I was looking that up with a function within the Oracle Tags.
    Can I create a shortcut that would create the following code pl/sql code into a PL/SQL function body:
    BEGIN
    htp.tableData(htf.anchor2('javascript:help_openTopic(''/insitehelp/Insite_Help.htm'', ''' || pkg_insite_general.help_link(v('APP_ID'), v('APP_PAGE_ID')) || ''')', '', '', '', '><IMG src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#ihelpl.gif" alt="Help" border=0'), 'center');
    END;
    and call this shortcut where this help icon needs to appear like:
    <TD align="center" valign="top">
    "CALLHELPWITHICON"
    </TD>
    I have done the above, but it does not work. What am I doing wrong, how can I get this to work? We have had to remove our help icons because of this patch.
    I thank you so for your research on this.
