Original serial number is missing

Originally, I downloaded lightroom 4 from the apple app store and later I purchased lightroom 5 off of the adobe site. It was working fine until my computer with lightroom 4 crashed. Now I cannot locate a serial number for the original product and adobe will not allow me to install lightroom 5 onto a new computer. The original email from Apple does not have a serial number and apple no longer has lightroom in its store. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to proceed? I would really like to access my catalogues. Advice is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Original serial number when upgrading from Trial version

    Hi,
I just bought LR 5.5 because my Trial version was over. When trying to put in the serial number, it says "This is an upgrade serial number. The serial number for your previous version of Lightroom is also required." I do not have the original serial number. Am I missing something here?
I had bought Lightroom 5 stand alone and the email I got says I bought following:
    Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5
    US$79.00
    Upgrade, Mac/Win, English, Download
Is it not the right version to buy?
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue now too - I purchased the "Lightroom 5 Standalone perpetual license - Mobile capabilities not included" today and it won't let me register with the serial number I got in the e-mail confirmation because it advised I needed the original product serial number too.  No where in the purchase process of the Stand Alone did it say anything about this being an upgrade.  This is very deceptive by Adobe. Is the Stand Alone product really just an upgrade?  How do I get this resolved?

  • I have downloaded Photoshop elements 5.0 to a new PC.  I recieve error message: "Your Adobe Photoshop Elements user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit."

I was referred here by customer service.  I have downloaded Photoshop elements 5.0 to a new PC.  After accepting the agreement I receive an error message saying  "Your Adobe Photoshop Elements user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit."  There is no place to enter the serial number.

All your pictures will remain safe even after uninstalling the program. Your pictures are saved to your system in form of catalog present at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\<your catalog><br />When you reinstall the program you can open this catalog and view all your photos again.

  • Got CS2 To Install but now getting notified that "user name, organization name  or serial number is missing or invalid."

After much frustration, got CS2 installed to replace my now-unsupported CS1. Went to open Adobe Photoshop and got your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization name or serial number is missing or invalid.

First, Ganesh, your response isn't helpful because that link just explains why I had to download CS2 in the first place. Your response is the same that I got through repeated interactions with Adobe support personnel. If you're not going to provide a solution, then do not reply at all.
Second, GautamBehl, that doesn't explain why I was getting the notification when I tried to open Photoshop after successfully installing the CS2. Perhaps I should have been clear and explained that I was installing the "3 disc" CS2 design suite.
Here's the workaround I discovered. I downloaded Photoshop CS2 separately and had no problem. I would suspect that doing likewise with the other programs would get a similar result. I would expect that Adobe would fix the problem with the CS2 suite of programs, but according to my ineractions with Adobe support, are more interested in trying to sell recent software to users that they have just frustrated.

  • User name, organization, or serial number is missing or corrupt.  FIX

Regardless of how this is happening--or why----it IS happening every time I try to run Adobe Photoshop elements 4.0. I purchased the program back in October, 2005 and have never been able to use it for more than a day or two. Without fail, I will open the program and get the message: Your Adobe Photoshop elements user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and MUST now exit. And, believe me, it EXITS immediately! In the past I have only been able to completely uninstall the program and then reinstall it---until the point where the program no longer appeared in the ADD/REMOVE programs of the control panel--although it was installed but not working. Apparently, registry cleaners can be the culprit, but I did a complete "CLEAN" install of Windows XP Professional/SP2 and started from scratch with ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER PROGRAMS INSTALLED EXCEPT ELEMENTS 4.0. The program worked for all of one day before I, again, got the error and could no longer use the program. Therefore, I can NOT blame registry cleaners alone. There is something inherent in Windows XP that causes this problem. Through this forum I was able to identify the exact registry key causing the problem:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{EBB7C1C1-D439-4D9B -9FDC-954C10F266B0}
I was able to go to "regedit" (without the quotes) from the "run" menu and find this key (when the program was working). Highlight the key by clicking once on it and then go up to "file". Next, click "export" and save this key to notepad, Word or my documents---any place you know you can find it. I named it Adobe reg key.reg. The next time the program stops working, go to regedit---then to "file" and then "import". After clicking "import", find where you saved the key and click on it. This should import the key directly back into the registry where it belongs and the program should start working again. So far this has worked for me at least 5 times. There must be some fix for this-----from Adobe----soon. With this key exposed, what's to stop anyone from downloading the trial version, and then writing this key into the registry themselves. It's basically called a "crack" and could be used by anyone seeking to avoid paying for the program---SO----Adobe really needs to address this issue. I am totally against anyone stealing software in any way, shape or form, and I think this is what will happen unless Adobe gets a handle on this issue.

Let me get this straight: Every time your PE4 stops working you have to do a registry edit to get it to work again? That's insane!!!
I can sympathize with you, I've suddenly had similar problems with PE3 and have gotten little help from Adobe other than to be pointed to countless forum threads which do not answer the questions or solve the problem. Strangely it worked for several months before crashing and refusing to work again, not even able to re-install it.
I was pointed to your thread because I was told it was probably my registry cleaner that caused my problem with PE3, obviously they didn'r really read your post.
thanks, and good luck. I've gone back to PE2, at least it works and lets me get on with my workflow, which was being severely hampered by having to spend all my time searching for answers that don't seem to exist.

    Hello ...Mom,
here you will find (if stored at Adobe) "General infos about your Adobe Account" https://www.adobe.com/account.html. To see what Adobe has saved about your serial number, please have a look there: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
On the other hand you could use a non Adobe program, like
Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit, for software, hardware and security configuration information on your computer.…
If necessary and for further questions click through http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html and if "open" please use chat, I had the best experiences. I quote from Adobe's employee Preran: The chat button is activated as soon as there is an agent available to help.

  • Cs2/Windows 7x64 - User name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid?

Ok, I'm at my wits end on this one.  I've installed and reinstalled this CS2 suite multiple times, tried to find the proper registry keys, pretty much anything i can think of to get this to work, but every time I go to boot up one of the programs in the suite (such as Photoshop) I get an error stating "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid.  The application cannot continue and must now exit".  There is only an OK box, and absolutely no way for me to look at the licensing information to see what it's getting hung up on.
I've confirmed everything is correct upon installation.  I can't find an e-mail address for Adobe's customer support so I'm asking you guys - what the hell is going on with this software?  Anyone fix this before?

    @exshopper
    A few quick items:
    (1)     I genuinely hope you find satisfaction with PaintShop Pro and that it meets your needs, whatever they are.
    (2)     Bob Levine is not and has never been an employee of Adobe Systems Incorporated. He does speak his mind and certainly lets Adobe know when our products and policies need improvement. Without attempting to put words in his mouth, I think you may be objecting to the fact that he does understand the needs of software developers in terms of marketing and supporting their products and the value of same to customers. He does rightly point out that the monthly subscription costs for the tools they use to earn their living usually amount to far less expenditure than many if not most creative professionals spend each day on their favorite beverages. There is still a major failure of many computer users to comprehend the cost of development and support of software simply because software isn't “tangible” in the way computers, printers, and other peripherals are.
    (3)     When you refer to purchasing “the CS2 suite for 1500 pounds (over $3000 back then)” I assume that you are referring to the Creative Suite 2 Premium which included every creative product that Adobe had at the time including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, GoLive, Version Cue, Bridge, Acrobat, etc. The “back then” was early 2005, nearly a decade which is an awful long time in this industry. If you “bought” the product more recently than eight years ago, much less five years ago, you already were purchasing something that was no longer current. And you certainly could not have purchased it from Adobe.
    (4)     I am sorry to read that your “computer died.” Was that computer nine years old? To be consistent with your expectations of Adobe, hopefully you expected your computer's manufacturer to continue to support that computer with a free or reduced cost repairs and/or replacement because you spent so much money on that computer. And of course you expected that new computer would run the exact same OS as your dead computer and support all your old peripherals including SCSI drives, diskettes, etc.
    (5)     Whether you or even I like it or not, the subscription model better reflects the reality of development, distribution, and support of software. Under the previous “perpetual license” scheme, you paid for a license to use the software for perpetuity on the hardware and software (i.e., OS) platforms for which it was developed and tested, nothing more. Unfortunately, the expectations of many of our customers was that somehow Adobe would provide free updates to their current program versions to provide support for future incompatible hardware and operating system platforms. However, that is a totally untenable business model. In contrast, many high end software applications (not graphic arts applications) not only charge for a license, but have a requirement for payment of either a monthly or annual maintenance contract which cover most such hardware/OS upwards incompatibility contingencies. The subscription model currently in-place basically eliminates the up-front licensing and a maintenance contract with a simple monthly fee that provides access to all updates and upgrades. It is fairly clear and simple.
    (6)     In terms of your costs over time, you didn't indicate which aspects of “CS2 suite” you were using, but given your apparent emphasis on image editing, Adobe does offer a very attractive subscription that includes both Lightroom and Photoshop.  Even if you don't use Lightroom at all, it is still a great price even just for Photoshop.

  • Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey

I just re-installed Logic Pro on my new Mac, but upon launching, it asks me for serial #.  Apparently, I'm using the "upgrade" serial, so after I put in the number, it says "Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey".  I've searched my big Logic 8 box, but all I have are manuals and disks, with no serial #.  I can't find the old dongle either, since I've been using without it on my previous computer.  How do I get past this?

Thanks for that post Bee Jay,
Just tried doing this, didn't work, after closing logic and re-opening without the XSKey it brings up the same 2 boxes, first to insert my upgrade serial and then the original serial. I really hope there is going to be an upgrade to fix this problem as otherwise it looks like ill be stuck with XSKey after all.

  • Where to Go for Help With A Lost Original Serial Number?

To make a long and frustrating story really short, I had to re-install OSX Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro (don't ask me why...). In doing that, I had to re-install my Final Cut Studio. The latest version I have is an upgrade package duly registered with Apple at the time I installed the software (including the requested previous serial number, belonging to the Final Cut Studio original & complete package I bought in NYC a few years ago).
I inserted the upgrade serial number and then, again, it requested the original serial number (from the previous installation). It so happens that the whole package was destroyed and I don't have the original serial number anymore, although (as I said above) it has been duly registered with Apple at the time I installed the original package and then later, when I installed the upgrade.
Where do I go or contact (within Apple) to retrieve that original serial number and continue re-installing my Final Cut Studio?
Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Recovering original serial number for Lightroom 2.4

I'm am trying to recover from a harddrive failure and am reloading some of my software.  I've been using Lightroom 3.6 which I got as an upgrade and I have the serial number for that upgrade. I saved the installation program on a separate drive.  I've installed 3.6 on my new drive without difficulty; its the activation process that is giving me a problem.  When I enter the serial number for my 3.6 is says that its an upgrade serial number and then asks for the original serial number.  I started with Lightroom 2.4 and purchased upgrades to 3.6.  How can I reacquire the original serial number?  Who do I contact; where do I go?
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you registered your LR 2.x online at Adobe then you can look up your serial number, there.
Go to:  http://www.adobe.com then choose Help / My Account and check “My Products”  At some point it’ll make you login with your Adobe ID.

  • Can't find original serial number - have update numbers, can't open Aperture on new mac

I just bought a new apple pro and moved over aperture from my imac.  When I try to access aperture on the tower, it asks for my aperture 1 serial number which I cannot find.  (I have the update number.) I no longer have the box.  I registered when I bought my first aperture, and that number must be in my system. I still have the imac.  Where can I find this number?

The information may be in your Apple Store account.
Just today, I was in the same situation and having received Aperture 1.5 as a gift, I could not provide a proof of purchase (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1861).
The AppleCare representative sent me to my Apple Store account (store.apple.com - "Account" is at the top right) since I had bought the Aperture 2 and 3 upgrades online.  There, I clicked on "Downloadable software puchases" and I got the list of software including the serial numbers. I entered the v3 upgrade serial number first and then the v2 upgrade and it worked -- even though I did not have the original serial number for v1.5.
    Hope it helps.

  • Aperture wants the original serial number and I don't have it!!?!!

I upgraded to a newer iMac and migrated all my files over to it. When I tried to open Aperture it asks for the serial number (I have 2.1.4). No worries, I input the serial number. Then it says that my serial number is for an upgrade and it wants the original serial number. I bought aperture years ago and have no record of the original serial number. The Apple website says I need all kinds of documentation to get a new serial number, the store that I bought it from is now closed and I now live on the other side of the world from where I bought it. Surely, I don't need to buy a new copy of Aperture? Shouldn't Migration Assistant carry with it the software history? This doesn't seem right to me.
Please let me know if you can help
    CBeatondubai

What is or is not "anti-customer", expectations and experiences differ, surely. Nonetheless I have never ever not had a copy of my serial numbers? How about simply adding a SOFTWARE group in your address book and adding what you've got. Takes about 30 seconds per purchased application, and saves you looking for a printed copy next time you need to re-install due to a new machine etc. Simply copy & paste and you're back to reading mails or drinking coffee.
That being said, I want Aperture 3 with better Geo-Location tagging support etc. for Christmas 2009 ideally... come on Apple
