OS X 10.10.1 Apple Mail reliability issue with Virgin Mail Servers

Apple Mail(8.1) reliability issue with Virgin Mail Servers on my iMac and Laptop Pro with the new Yosemite update!  Spent 1.5hrs with the virgin team (thought we solved it by changing from Auto to one minute update) only to find on return I still have an issue with Mail!  On the iMac the account opens and I see all the mail arriving. When I switch over and the back, days of recent mail have disappeared?
If I search for one I saw, It is found?
On the Laptop Pro, its similar, but it also has a problem remembering the outgoing port no matter how often I save it keeps going back to port 143 and this makes the send fail each time?
Will I have to move to another mail client or is their a fix coming?

The last version of Mail for Tiger is v2.1.3 & there won't be any updates/upgrades.
You might try the freeware mail app Thunderbird. http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ It's newer than Mail for Tiger.
How Thunderbird 3 works on Mac OS X: Better than Apple Mail?

  • Apple Mail Font Issues with Outlook

Have apple fixed this issue with fonts changing and appearing differntly when you send emails to users on Microsoft Outlook. Most of the forums have message posts from 2011 but 2 years on you would think the issue would be fixed.
I have a whole team of computer illiterate staff and can't expect them to change the font format everytime they send an email. It looks so unprofessional sending emails out like this - next step is to switch to outlook for mac - any good feedback on this, I've heard if you have high volume emails working through gmail imap accounts that it just crashes all the time?
Any help or plugins would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Kurt,
Thank you for your response. I am fully aware of what you have just said, and I do follow this basic protocol. The 'gripe' is that it seems that when we setup our message font in preferences one is under the impression this is the font that will be sent out. I later discovered this is only my screen font, and when we compose an email this font (for instance Arial 12pt) is not tagged in the outgoing message. In-fact it is left blank, and the receivers mail will change it to a default such as times new roman. However this seems to create strange changes on the receivers end and sometimes the font can come out huge or varying, there is no consistency and the email looks ugly, As a business owner, my email is my letter head, and is a communicational face of my business.
The issue could be easily resolved with an option for an Apple Mail user to set up what font they want their out going message to be in and for Apple Mail to actually tag that font in the message. Without the 'user' having to each time manually choose this font.
I always use Arial 12pt for my out going message, but it's frustrating that I have to each time select my text and change the font and point size, (which means my screen message font has to be another font and size otherwise apple mail does not pick up the change). What I, and from what I can see many people, don't understand is most Mail Software (if not all), except Apple mail, don’t have this issue. And if I used a different mail app I can choose my out going font such as Arial 12pt, and the receiver will see the same font (obviously providing it's a websafe font), and I don't need to keep telling the programme to make it Arial every-time I compose a new message. This would save time.
I know that this ‘gripe’ is not only myself, and that there is a large number of people out there also annoyed by this, and many Apple uses choose not to use Apple mail simply because of this reason. Which is a shame, because Apple mail in my opinion is the best mail app out there.
I don't expect the programme to be perfect, but this is basic user experience and basic functionality, so why can't Apple correct it? All the amazing features in the world are worthless if the basics ‘user experience’ is not friendly.
I really really hope Apple does something about it, or at least develop a plugin that we can download to sort it out for those of us who want to use mail as I have described.
Attachment Tamer has sorted out the whole compatibility and friendliness of attachments, and I can set up how I want my attachments to work, I do it once and don't have to think about it again. I did have to pay for this function. But I should not have had to. this is not a feature I should have had to plugin, it should come standard with Mail, every other mail software does, so it is a user expectation... And the same goes for how we set up our fonts, in Rich Text, I should only need to set it up once and not think of it again, a general out going font should be a standard function.
As I said, I do ‘put up with it’ mostly because I’m an Apple fan, and In general hugely happy with the Apple products. But should someone have to ‘put up’ with something like this, when it is something so small that should really have been sorted out years ago in the early versions of Mail?
Sorry Kurt, I'm not really moaning at you directly, it's just that its a frustrating non-feature that I can see Apple is not even taking into consideration, and probably will never look at sort out. Why, is the question?

  • Having issues with Yahoo mail on ios4 on a 3GS

Is anyone else experiencing issues with Yahoo mail on their 3GS after the upgrade to ios4?? Keep getting an imap server error, but gmail works fine.

Same problem. I have two Yahoo! Mail accounts. One stopped sending mail, while the other was fine. (Both could receive, however.) To solve that, I deleted the problematic account from the phone and reinstalled it. It worked... until I synced by iPhone with iTunes. Now both Yahoo! Mail accounts will not work, and deleting them and reinstalling them does nothing.
Apple had better fix this. (Or I'll whine louder.)

When will Apple resolve its issue with Adobe so iPad users can access flash?

That isn't going to happen. Adobe has not only given up on iOS, they have given up on all mobile device now.
Why do you think you need Flash?

Is anyone else having issues with their mail , where the reply from the person you just contacted contains very old emails from a different contact ?

I mean that I sent an email to a contact of mine yesterday. His reply contained a stream of very old emails I had received in 2009 from a totally different contact all together !! The reply email was in my inbox as being from the original person I sent the email to. This is starting to happen more regularly now , so is a problem !

  • What did Apple Software Update do with my Mail??

I can't open my Mail application version 4.5
I downloaded the recommended Software Update sent to me from Apple on my MacAir
The following message flashes when I attempt to open my Mail
"You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OSX"
I tried the suggestions from Apple - still no Mail

My guess is that Mail was included with OS X version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard from 2010) also.
Here are two downloads that might help:
    1.  OS X Version 10.6.8 supplmental update:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
    2.  Security Update 2012-004 (Snow Leopard): http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586

  • I need help resolving issues with inbound mail on 10.8.5 server.

    Let's start from the beginning.
I had a Mac Mini server running OS X 10.7 since 2011. I have a static IP and domain registered. I used it for mail, calendar, and web service.  It was working beautifully until a week ago.  Suddenly it stopped processing mail for me from google and apple managed domains.  There may be other domains, I do not know.
I checked my external firewall and the correct ports are being forwarded (25, 587, 993).  Connected to a remote network, I can verify that nmap shows the ports as open.  I can telnet into the server on port 25 and send mail.  I checked with the ISP and they are not blocking/filtering those ports and the DNS they are hosting for me appears to be correct (unchanged from when it was working).  I've looked in the logs, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for, really.  I upgraded to 10.8.5 and server 2.2.2 last night in an attempt to rectify the situation but I'm still unable to receive mail from my other accounts (iCloud and gmail).
I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue for a while now and I'm all out of ideas.  If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    Hi,
I can send/receive mail locally.  I send mail to [email protected] from [email protected] and [email protected].  This works while on my LAN and connected to my work via VPN.
I'm not listed on any blacklist, either by domain or IP using that tool.  The MX lookup tool at that site lists everything as OK, the MX record appears to be correct.  The SMTP test at that site shows a "failed to connect" error.  The exact error is:
Connection attempt #1 - Unable to connect after 15 seconds. [15.04 sec]
I'm not sure what I'm looking for in my log files.  I do not see any inbound connection attempts from google or apple domains when I try to send from my other e-mail accounts.
when I run the dig command, I get the following output:
    dig @8.8.8.8 -t mx bakernet.ca
    ; <<>> DiG 9.8.5-P1 <<>> @8.8.8.8 -t mx bakernet.ca

I don't see an  A record here.  My DNS is hosted by my ISP, my server is performing DNS lookups for my LAN.
When I run dig from inside my LAN I get the following:

That does show an A record for the mail.bakernet.ca hostname.  Looks like my ISP is to blame?

  • Issue with electronic mail address in profile

As a part of the conversion process, one of the electronic mail addresses I use was effectively 'burned in' to my profile. Clearly I can make it visible, or keep it hidden - but there is a problem. The public address I previously had listed for this purpose is not available - instead it's the private address that is displayed!
    Think of it like this:
    [email protected] [private address]
    [email protected] [public address]
It was the public one previously visible - it's now the private one, currently set to hidden, which is the only one I can choose to display or hide. Can anything be done about this, or are we stuck with this 'converted' change to our profiles?

I appreciate the thought, and am sure that for some users this would be a sufficient tactic. Unfortunately, I have historically had issues with the interlocking but thoroughly unreliable process of changing ones basic identity at…
    http://myinfo.apple.com
This is aggravated by the fact that I have four such identities - though I only use one here in Apple Discussions - with varying levels of access to ADC, GSX and other generally non-public areas at Apple. Managing them, including my .Mac ID, is at times a challenge, and I hesitate to do anything at all to upset the delicate balance. Unless the Discussions profiles revert to a primary private electronic mail address with a secondary optional 'public' address, I suppose I will just have to use the previously non-public address that became the sole available address following the conversion.
Thanks again for thinking about this, and offering a solution to the issue.

  • Font size changes randomly inside mail received (sent with Mac Mail)

Hello! Here is a random issue on Mac Mail Leopard, seems few people already experimented the issue but no one found a correct solution:
When i send a mail to somebody, we can randomly notice a change of the font size (from 9px to 12px) in the received mail. This appears mostly in sentences after others sentences containing some bold text.
Note that I use the Calibri font, which is correctly set for the whole mail.
Appart from starting to write inside the signature to avoid any problem, i didn't find a way yet to fix that issue. But I imagine that if it would be a bug in the software, Apple would have fix it for decades ?..
So anyone could give an explanation? Thank u!

Thanks baltwo and Tom. I'll try sending as a PDF file as well.
Also, I did a test per Tom's instructions about reformatting text. First, I copied text from another email and then pasted it in a new message. I highlighted all the text where I wanted to increase the text size and left one paragraph unchanged.
I sent the email to the recipient that's having these issues where she replied back with my forwarded email.
All the text where I increased the point size shrunk and the text that I left alone was actually okay - Weird! I also noticed that the font style changed on their end. By the way, the recipient uses Microsoft Outlook as their email browser.

  • IPhone 6 with iOS 8 Issues with Exchange Mail Header

Multiple users report issues with Headers in the Apple Mail Client
Condensed/Squished Text (in the Message Header)
Blank Headers (in the Message Previews)
Touch Calibration - Off by 2cm after attempting to interact with blank messages
Has anyone else been experiencing these issues... any fixes?

Did you find a solution for this problem yet?
We are haveing the same problem where I work.
Also using Exchange server and IOS devices.
Are you using a VPN tunnel on the IOS devices?
A few Days ago I had this problem on my own device (iPhone6, IOS8.3)
I was Reading emails on my way to work.
When I got to work and started the computer ONE of the emails was marked unread in Outlook.
On the device it was marked as "read".
One thing that I remember is that I had bad Connection at the time I was syncing emails and I got
the popup message: "Can not get emails - Connection to server failed" (my translation from Swedish)
I have a feeling that the error message and the problem with unread emails are connected somehow.
Also, when I turn off the email account for my iPhone (to remove all emails) and turn it back on (reload all emails)
the mail that was set as "read" is now "unread" again on my iPhone.
This means (speculatinos) that sometimes the device mark emails as "read" but for some reason it does not
tell the server that it is "read". So the server still Thinks that the email is "unread".

  • Password issues with Mac Mail-help!

I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
    Good luck,
    Bronson

  • Issues with Mac Mail & smtp Settings

For the past several days, I have had issues sending from Mail.  I get an error message that mail cannot connect to the server.  I've removed and re-added the outgoing mail settings and the smtp setting is correct.  I've installed all updates and shut down and restarted numerous times.  Every now and again, a message will get through and send very slowly, but most of the time, it just tells me it cannot send and offers me the chance to "Try Later" or "Try with Selected Server."
Anyone else experiencing such issues - would love to know troubleshooting advice.
    Thanks!

    Hello kgoody,
I have not been able to use my mac mail for 2 months now because of the server issue. "Try later" or "Try with selected server " were at the beginning of this nightmare. Since then I have not received a single email in the inbox. I downloaded an article "How to use Gmail with Apple's Mail" by Stephen Korecky and tried to fix the problem. It did not work because the Apple Mail windows did not show what they were supposed to. I called my software wizard and he said he will have to come and fix it. He did not show up yet. It is very frustrating.

  • Snow Leopard Mail not sync with iPhone Mail (iCloud)?

    Hello all,
Just like to query and confirm:
This is my sister's Mac Mini running Snow Leopard, and her iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 on iCloud, she has activated iCloud on her iPhone, using the same Apple ID
She has told me her desktop Mac mini's mail doesn't seem to sync with the mail on her iPhone, but it was, about 3 weeks ago
I know both are different, her Snow Leopard would be running MobileMe and her iPhone would be running iCloud, even though both are using the same Apple ID.
Is the Mail part regardless of whether on MobileMe or iCloud, they would sync, or will not?
I guess the only thing to do now is to update her Mac mini to Lion as soon as possible.
    Thanks and cheers.

Yes, you need to upgrade to Lion in order to use iCloud. MobileMe and iCloud are separate email services.

  • Sending issue with Mac Mail

I use Mac Mail for all my accounts and I am having an annoying issue with my Yahoo Mail. About 75% of the time, it sends right when I hit send, but then 25% of the time, the send icon just has the spinning wheel and nothing goes through and I don't see the outgoing bar in the bottom left. Eventually, I get an error message that it didn't send and if I hit Try Later, it usually sends. If I shut down Mail and re-start it, the messages in the Outbox then send right away.
My settings are all correct as it does send most of the time before getting hung up.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything i can do besides switching to Outlook or Entourage? I don't want to do that as I have read MobileMe does not work with Outlook.
    Thanks for any help,
    SJ

I have the same problem. Around one time in five the gear will spin, no blue progress bar shows, nothing shows up in the Outbox or Sent box. My solution is to quit Mail and relaunch it immediately. Now any of the following may happen:
    1) It may show in the Sent box, having actually been sent successfully (this is rare).
    2) It will show in the Outbox and Mail tries to send it automatically, in which case it may or may not go normally; if not I have to go thru the quit/boot cycle again.
    3) It will show in the Outbox and I have to send it again manually, in which case it will probably go normally; if not I have to go thru the quit/boot cycle again.
At least it won't be lost.
It is not my account settings. It is intermittent. I think it started after I upgraded to 10.6.7 (I can't remember if that is when I got Mail 4.5)
This is clearly a bug and I wish Apple would fix it.
