Osx refusing to let me reinstall

Hey all... I'm running 10.4.11 on a macpro, intel, and i'm trying to format my system cuz it's gone crazy since the last update... i've got lots of audio issues and the system constantly crashes while i'm working in logic studio. Anyways, when i try to install os x from the dvd it gives me this message saying i can't install it on this machine and to consult the documentation for a list of compatible computers. It did that to me while trying to upgrade to leaopard as well. I've tried holding C on restart but it just loads up the os. Checked permissions, and disconnected all devices as well. Any ideas?

Are you for certain using the Tiger Disk that came with it?
You cannpt install Tiger on an HD that has Leopard on it unless you erase the disk first, or possibly Archive and install. no matter which OS you plant to install, do this first...

Try holding the Option key if C doesn't work.

Why won't my ipod touch let me reinstall apps that ive already gotten, but lost?

Ok so i lost my apps since i had to restore my ipod to fix a problem, and i tried to get some of my apps(i.e music downloading apps, and urban dictionary and funny pics app) back and it wont let me reinstall them!! You need to first install the OS your Mac came on the bundled gray disks. Assuming it's Snow Leopard, you could then login into the App Store using your same Apple ID and password to download and install Lion.
If your Mac is a bit older and came with Leopard, 10.5.x, you can bypass that and install Snow Leopard from your retail disk. The only software you'd need to install separately from the gray disks would be the optional software, such as the iLife suite and other titles not included on the retail SL disk.

ITunes refuses to let me drag tracks in or out of or within playlists

With no pattern, just nasty surprises, iTunes refuses to let me drag tracks in or out of or within playlists.
I have searched the Apple Support Communities and elsewhere and found no solutions which work.
It's nothing to do with Wacom - I don't have one. It's nothing to do with setting iTunes to manual sorting. It's not set to shuffle or repeat. It's just an ordinary playlist. It's not a folder nor a Smart playlist.
On one occasion I phoned Apple and a nice man told me how to display the Library (but it's now hidden again) and delete an iTunes preference file. This solved the problem for a while. But I have forgotten how to display the Library again and can't remember the name of the preference file to delete.
Anyway, the problem should have been fixed by now we are at V 10.6.3
If there is no solution then I am stuck with copy and paste - a very unsatisfactory system when I am playing a playlist live.

I'm installing a fresh system, trying to do everything the "new" way but systemd isn't making it easy for me to like it.
One thing I refuse to use is "persistent" network naming; so I created the symlink to /dev/null in /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-name-slot.rules
That's all fine, the interface is now eth0 as it should be. I updated my netctl config to use eth0 as the interface, but systemd refuses to let go:
After issuing 'netctl start natures-adm', I get this error:

According to the error, systemd is being too smart for it's own good and waiting for the old enp9s0 interface, which never comes because it's now eth0 (which is ready and waiting).

Connection=ethernet
IP=dhcp

This was a service file corresponding to your old natures-adm profile mentioning enp9s0? Then either you forgot to update a service file you created, or netctl generated it (so you were not aware it was created) without cleaning it up. You should blame yourself or netctl (which is still in beta), respectively.
sullivanva linked your problem to encoded hyphens, without really explaining the connection. It seems unlikely that this really is the cause. Or a part of netctl responsible for generating service files fails to take this encoding into account, but I think netctl users are also expected to understand the correspondence between service files and profiles and be able manage them.

Are you leaving the box unchecked to Manually manage music & videos? You don't need to to add anything to the iPhone.
Simply drag the playlist to the iPhone to manually add it.

Any OSX utility that lets you examine code in documents such as Word?

A PC-using customer of mine is getting an error saying that he can't view a TIFF in my Word document and I can't find the TIFF so I can switch it out with a JPG. Word doesn't seem to have any way to display what format each image is in, so I'm hoping I can find an app that will open the document with all its formatting code showing and do a search for "tiff" to find that rouge image. Is there a utility in Mac OSX that will let me view the raw code for a Word doc?

I opened a MSW doc with a jpeg in it with Tex-Edit Plus and could see all the code, including the binary data for the graphic. However, the Find function could not find the JPG (which Word had changed from the image's extension of .jpg), because it is embedded in a bunch of data stuff. I could see it, but then it was a one page doc with just the one graphic, and I knew what I was looking for. HexEdit will also display all the data, but is rather cumberson, and I could not find the appropriate "place." I copied the data and pasted into TextEdit, but the find function there wouldn't bring up the right place either.

Mozila crashed suddenly and now it won't start. it shows white screen only. It won't let me reinstal it, sys shows that every .exe file is corruped.

I was listeninig songs on youtube and mozila and whole sys just crushed. I recovered sys but after that mozila won't work. It lifts up just mozila frame and it just won't work. It won't let me reinstall it too. I downloaded about 10 instalations and for every it gaves me notification that file is corruped.
I didnt uninstal it for not to lose all the bukmarks.
Help me, what to do.

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.

When I tried to do the update it caused an error. So I had to uninstall itunes and now it won't let me reinstall it. Keeps saying something about I do not have the authority to do it.

I got this update message when I opened my itunes. So I said yes and let it update. But then I got this error message and now I can't get it to reinstall. I am the owner of this pc and have been working with Itunes forever. But it keeps telling me that I do not have the right authority to install itunes. Me too, kept saying a certain file was missing. Don't understand why a file would be missing, all I did was unintall itunes so I could reinstall it. Makes no sense to me.

Cannot get CS2 to work, and it won't let me reinstall it or remove it.

Right this second I am so upset with Adobe I could spit!
When I try to pull up Illustrator CS2, it shows up and shuts down, badaboom. When I try to do a reinstall, I click on the first 'continue' and it says that the install has been interrupted, and shuts down, even if I let it sit there for half an hour. Wnen I go into Windows remove-program, Illustrator CS2 shows up, but the 'remove' option doesn't, and Illustrator 10.0, which is installed, doesn't even show.
In the past month I've had problems with Bridge, am currently having problems with PhotoShop CS4 (it won't see the pen functions for my Wacom tablet), and now this with Illustrator, and right this second a customer wants a CS2 graphic - right now! If I could get the program to run or reinstall I could meet the requirement, however, I can't even delete it.
And plese don't tell me to spend more money to upgrade. That's not how it should work. I'm retired, work on an extremely limited budget, and cannot afford upgrading at this time.

I'm on record, from my purchasing history, of being a solid Adobe citizen. However, this circumstance is, quite possibly, one of the most unacceptable that I've ever encountered. For one, no 'app' should ever require a rebuild. For two, no later version of another app should ever disallow reinstalling the earlier app (because I upgrade to PhotoShop CS4 I can't reinstall DreamWeaver CS3?). Also, while this might be a 'known' problem, as a user, I don't see that highlighted in Adobe advertising as it absolutely should be. Maybe there should be a banner on all products that says, "You MUST buy complete Suite upgrades!"

my parents bought me an ipod touch 4th gen for christmas, it has been working fine. I changed my passcode and i forgot it. I tried entering what i thought my passcode was, but i entered it many times wrong. soon a message came up on my screen and said, "ipod disabled connect to itunes" After reading that i connected to itunes hoping to restore it, it said, "can not restore, due to undetected errors." I am very disappointed because i went to the apple store asking them to help me fix it. They said the didnt know how to it can no longer work. I need help i spent a good amount of money for a working product. What i got is NOT working. I am very unsatisfied. APPLE NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER AND HELP. i am not the only one this has happened to but i will not buy another apple product until they start helping, i will stop using all my apple prducts and i will NOT reccommend any apple products to anyone until they get it together, and fix this problem. now APPLE do you think you can help now? i am VERY UNSATISFIED WITH YOUR SERVICES AND PRODUCTS. Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

ITunes + Quicktime refuses to let my Vista run mfpmp.exe with WMP

After I upgraded my iTunes + Quicktime, I can no longer play like half of my mp3s in Windows Media Player (11.0.6001.7008). Like half of my mp3s in WMP have the x inside red circle error next to the mp3 name & when I click on it, it says ""Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

I know the files are not corrupt because they play fine on my Compaq computer which has the same exact music files, only difference is the WMP version on my Compaq computer is like 11.0.8 I think.
I already tried the Basic & Full versions of K-lite Codec package & my WMP still only plays about half of my library.
I uninstalled everything Apple related on my Vaio. Then tried to play my unplayable mp3s, & they all play with no errors! I reinstalled iTunes & Quicktime & the whole Apple package thing on their site, & WMP refuses to play like half my mp3 library again =(
Something about iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, or Quicktime makes Windows Media Player not play right or utilize codecs right even though I have WMP as the default player. Only when I uninstall everything Apple related, then WMP plays correctly again.
I noticed that when I have nothing Apple related installed, then when WMP plays the affected mp3s, the application Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE runs from the C:\Windows\System32 folder. But when I have anything Apple installed, then WMP refuses to run that Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE (mfpmp.exe)!!!!! Is there a fix to this?? Something within the Apple files is preventing mfpmp.exe to run which results in the codec error.

Your problem is likely to be with Vista / WMP not so much Apple's iTunes/QuickTime...
1. When you install iTunes (or any other media player for that matter) it will associate the .mp3 mime type to play in that media player. (Why would you want to use WiMP instead of iTunes anyway?)
2. I'm guessing WMP can't launch the executable for some reason if the mime type is not set in Windows for WMP to handle the file type (it should not be dependent on this, but dependencies run deep in Windows, hence the many headaches for users).
3. You should be able to set the mime type for .mp3 files to be associated with WMP in the preferences/properties of either WMP or QuickTime.

5. iTunes should still be able to play .mp3 files even if you associate the .mp3 mime type with WMP, cause it rightly doesn't care about the dependency, although it just won't find the .mp3 files automatically - you'll have to manually add the .mp3 files to your iTunes library if you've associated them with WMP.
6. Upgrade to Win7 or better yet, switch to MacOS and you won't have the problem to begin with.

Firefox automatically updated to a version that will not run on my version of OSX... can I reinstall my old version and keep my saved bookmarks, etc?

I am running OSX 10.4.11 on my iMac; Firefox automatically updated to version 12, and now it will not run on my computer.
Is there a way to deinstall the new version while keeping my saved bookmarks, etc?
If not, how do I deinstall 12 and reinstall the older version of Firefox that worked with my operating system?

Please keep in mind that not only is Firefox not receiving any updates (thus rendering it insecure), neither is Mac 10.4 or any of the plugins used on it. Running such an old Operating System is dangerous to your information's security on the internet. something for you to keep in mind.

CC won't let me reinstall Photoshop CS6. Please help.

I had Photoshop CS6 on my computer and CC kept offering me an upgrade. Whenever I tried to upgrade, I got an error that it was unsuccessful. This happened several times. So I decided to uninstall Ps and then reinstall it. But now that it's gone, CC won't let me download and reinstall. It still wants me to upgrade what it thinks is on my computer. So I tried the upgrade, and that didn't work to reinstall Ps.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to reinstall Ps CS6 onto my computer?

NEVERMIND!!!!
I searched and searched. Finally figured out that I needed to sign out of CC completely, then sign back in. Once I did that, CC saw that I didn't have Ps on my computer, and I was able to reinstall it.
I hope this helps someone else.
