OSX Server / MAMP / Move material from client to server

I have a several questions.
On my laptop I've been using MAMP (mamp.info) for quite some time, and I love it, most notably for the ease of use and clear directory structure. I've recently purchased a mini and osx server to learn that environment, and I know it already has php and apache installed. I'm actually running some web pages from the server now.
Question is, I'd like to use the mamp stack on the server... is this a good idea. I like that all the files are in one directory. From a security standpoint, is it safer to use the included stuff in osx server?
also, i'd like to use phpmyadmin and drupal on the server, like I am on the client stack once i'm done programming stuff. How can I go about this?
thanks in advance for the info

I've never used MAMP to know what it's plusses are, although I guess it must have some since a number of people seem to use it (although maybe that's because they don't know most of the stuff is built-in). However, if you do go that route you're required to maintain it yourself with regard to updates (compared to the built-in version that Apple periodically updates via Software Update). This may be good or bad depending on a) how much time you have on your hands and b) how quickly MAMP update their distribution vs. Apple.
I also loathe the fact that MAMP puts all its files in /Applications (this is just wrong).

Just download and install them like you would anywhere else. I can't speak for Drupal but I've used PHPMyAdmin on Mac OS X for years.

I have a scenario where we have manufacturing line of standard products. We use standard PP funcationalities.
Only non-standard requirement is few orders where part of the material is FREE ISSUED by client. I do not want to create different materail master or BOM to handle this issue as the FREE ISSUED material is also different everytime.
Now, I want PR not be generated for these items and also I want to consume this item. Also Gurus can suggest some better way of GR for free issued material received from client.
More information can be provided if the msg is not clear.

    Thanks for the answer.
    Let me repharse few lines.
I want to use same material (child items) for normal regular production cycle and also when material is free issued by client.
In a way, I am asking a requirement of any field available in PP module which will allow me to have selection of procurement stretegy. I am searching for a filed which will allow me to take decision.

  • QM: How to Move material from quality stock to unrestricted stock

    Hi,
How to post material stock from quality to unrestricted without using 321.
    Regards,

    Hi,
if you have quality management active then you have to mainttain quality view in material master along with the inspection lot settings. now this will result in quality lot creation at the time of GRN. then you have to execute QA32 and get the lot. make usage decision and there you will find tab with lot quantity. there you have to give qty in unrestricted and save it.
if you dont have it then just do the transfer postingeither through MIGO or MB1B with movement type 321. give the mat. plant str loc. qty and save it.

  • Movement type from QM to Unrestricted

    Hi ALL,
How to move the material from QM to Unrestricted...I am aware of 321 mvt type..
Please suggest me diffferent mvt type..
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Ameya k.

    Hello Ameya,
The only one mvt type 321 is used to move material from QI to UR - Unrestricted. This can be done through MB1B transaction code (if QM module is not active) or using QA11 (usage Decision) as explained by Srinivas.
If you have any other business scenario, please let us know so we can address accordingly.

  • Email Alert/Notification from OSX Server when client status changes?

    Hi,
I'm looking at either OSX Server or ARD to manage a network of 'client' mac minis.
One requirement is that the system should alert - by email or other form - when a client's status changes (such as Offline, Sleep, Network Down, etc).
Does OSX Server offer that function?
    Thank you for your help.

Something like Dejal Simon might work for you. I don't know of any way for a Mac to detect whether the monitor is turned off or not, though.

  • Do we need to point clients to internal SUS with Caching on OSX Server

It's my understanding that devices (iOS and OSX) on the same local network will grab content from the Caching Service in OSX Server automatically without any configuration. If that is correct, do we need to point our managed clients to that server for OS updates anymore? Can't we just leave it to use Apples Public Update Servers, and then anytime when it's on this local network it will grab the updates from the server?

Caching Server 2 catches and mirrors recent traffic for iOS and OS X systems and will inherently flush out older material as space is needed — as the name states it's a cache, after all — where Software Update Server downloads and maintains copies of all updates for OS X.
When there are a number of OS X systems around, Software Update Server tends to be more predictable.  The updates are available.  With caching server, a barrage of iOS updates or a big OS X update might flush out the stuff you need, and it's off to the network to fetch it again.
The systems around generally have more disk space available than network bandwidth, so Software Update Server and Caching Server 2 are both in common use, or maybe Reposado, depending on local requirements.  If you have more network than disk, then you might make a different choice — at the price of disk space these days, the extra space is an obvious choice.
If there isn't enough disk space on a Mac available but you do have something that'll boot Linux, then Reposado has you covered.

  • Migrate OSX Server 10.5 from G5 to new XServe

We've got a PowerMac G5 running OSX Server 10.5. There are about 40 clients currently bound to this server.
We want to move the entire server config "as is" to a new Intel XServe with a hardware RAID card.
We defined the RAID (as a RAID-1)
We then booted off a Leopard Volume, put the old server in Target Disk Mode,
Used SuperDuper, and cloned the drive from the old drive to the new server volume.
Everything looks great, so we shut the machine down, unplug the old machine. We plug the network cable into the new machine, boot it up, boots OS X Server perfectly...
    BUT....
Everything comes up, EXCEPT, Kerberos and OpenDirectory won't start. Therefore all the bound clients won't see the server. Heck, even Workgroup Manager can't see the directory because OD fails.
    HELP!
What do I need to configure on the new machine to make this clone operational again? Is there something I need to manually reset? Because there is a new NIC card (obviously with a new machine), do I have to reset GUIDs?
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Cloning from one server to another is not the best bet.

  • Project Server 2010 PWA - attempting to move folders from root to document library subfolder does not work

    Hello all,
We have an issue whereby attempting to move documents from the top level folder to a subfolder in a PWA site appears to work initially, but within a few minutes the documents are moved back to the top level folder with no error message.
Uploading a document has the same effect.
Permissions are granted at all levels in the document folder.
Only some users seem to be affected.
Only some project sites are affected.
As an admin user I can successfully upload and move documents without issue.
Any thoughts on what might cause this ?   I've actually never seen this before (and I have worked on a lot of SharePoint/Project Server deployments) so interested to know if anyone out there has a bright idea on how this might get fixed ?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
I understand you encountered the issue when save document from Office client application to SharePoint 2010 site.
Is there any Proxy settings in networking side? Please bring up IE > Internet options > Connections > Lan settings. If so, please uncheck options in Proxy server and test the issue again.
If you have deploy GPO to add SharePoint site into Trusted sites, please check if there is any other GP associated with trusted sites that might affect the issue. You could also remove it from Trusted sites via IE options and test the issue again.
In addition, please provide more error message to help narrow down the issue, you could locate error information in Event log at least.

  • ARD Reporting failing and causing thousands of entries in my system.log for my OSX Server clients

I have a small four system network - all running latest version of Mavericks with latest (3.7.1 ARD)

    3) OSX Server - installed but not running any services

If I target systems 3 or 4, reporting works fine.
Any ideas what is going on here?

I'm not trying to collect any report data as far as I know.

  • Migrating from Maildir to OSX server mail

    Hi,
I have a Linux machine running Qmail (smtp, pop), Courier (imap) and Squirrelmail.
About 20 users on the machine.
    Most users use webmail only.
The users are all 'virtual' users, under vpopmail.
This machine uses Maildir for mail storage.
I want to move all mail to the new OSX server.
The new server will be working the same way - webmail.
I'm not sure where to start.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

    agostini,
I've successfully moved users off a similar setup (Debian Linux, Courier IMAP, SquirrelMail) to my new Xserve. I used imapsync-1.239
    http://www.linux-france.org/prj/imapsync/dist/
(it's about halfway down the page - Dec 2007 release)
I initially tried using the MacPorts install of the same version, but it constantly failed to authenticate with the Xserve. I have my Xserve setup for always using CRAM-MD5 auth. (Make sure you have all of the Perl MD5 modules install, including the optional ones, if you use MD5 auth). So, I downloaded it and compiled it directly. This eventually worked and with only a couple of bad emails, out of thousands, that did not transfer. It also will retain flags set on the previous server (seen, replied, etc.). I ran it from the Xserve and connected to the Linux box remotely.
I have no experience with Qmail.
If you use procmail on the Linux machine though, you will need to recreate those scripts as sieve scripts on the Mac. I found the SquirrelMail plugin for sieve scripts most helpful.

  • Diffs b/n 10.4.3 clients and 10.3.9 on OSX Server 10.3.9

We have a smooth running OSX Server (standalone running 10.3.9) with mainly 10.3.9 clients (G3 iMacs to latest eMacs). When we configure brand new 10.4.3 clients (new eMacs) using the same settings in Directory Access we can't get login to work.
All that happens is that the Username and Password go grey and the machine hangs with frantic network activity (based on flickering lights on the switch). The dialog box doesn't shake.
In some cases the computer will eventually login but it takes several hours - usually though, not at all - or at least I get sick of waiting after a full school day.
Clearly there is some wrinkle about 10.4.3 that I can't see. If I clone one of our 10.3.9 machines onto the new machines they workl perfectly, but I want to use Tiger.
Everything is fully updated, network is 100baseT.

    eMacs and a G4 Xserve   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Server is 10.3.9

    Stephen,
You seem to be doing pretty well for having trained yourself.
By forward and reverse lookups, I meant DNS lookups--I typically use nslookup, but lookupd will work too. If you get the server's IP address from the FQDN (foward lookup) and the FQDN from the IP address (reverse lookup), then your DNS settings are fine.
Ultimately, you should change the paths to your share points so they meet the requirements, but before you do that, I would run a test with a temporary share point to see if you can get your 10.4.3 clients to work. Use something like the default /Users share point--re-share it if necessary, and make sure you create a network mount record for it--and then set up a test user with its home directory in that share point. Then see if you can log in as that user on a 10.4.3 client.
If you still can't, try using the dscl command-line utility to see if you can see the directory records for your automount. Here's an example from our setup (what you type is in italics):
    % dscl localhost
    cd LDAPv3/10.1.0.101/Mounts
    /LDAPv3/10.1.0.101/Mounts > ls
    my.server.edu:/Volumes/Students
    /LDAPv3/10.1.0.161/Mounts > read my.server.edu<tab to auto-complete>
    cn: my.server.edu:/Volumes/Students
    mountDirectory: /Network/Servers/
Basically, this tells you what mounts are published on your server. In your instance, you should see an entry for your Group Folders/Middle Years share point in the list from the ls command. If you can see the mount records for your home directory share points, and you can see the attributes of those records with the read command, that eliminates one possible source of the problem (whether the client is having problems binding to the server). This is unlikely to be the problem in your circumstances, but it's good to eliminate it out of the box.
Note that your server's entry may be listed by host name instead of IP address--in dscl, cd into the LDAPv3 directory and do an ls to see what's there. If you don't see an entry, or if you can't cd into the Mounts directory or you see nothing there, try rebuilding the Directory Access preferences from scratch. Log in as admin, delete the contents of /Library/Preferences/DirectoryService, reboot, and run Directory Access to re-add an LDAPv3 configuration for your server. When you do that, enter the server's IP address, and Directory Access should fill in the search base for you. Save, quit, and reboot the machine, and see if you can log in then.
Now, to your questions. Search base is in fact the dc=my,dc=com part. The ldapsearch command is useful if you need to see whether your client can bind to an LDAP server. It's actually not likely to be helpful in this situation, because your clients seem to be authenticating. I wasn't thinking when I added that suggestion. As to "static bind"--that just means that you are configuring Directory Access explicitly to contact a specific server, rather than letting the client get that information through DHCP.
If none of this helps, of course, post back. And good luck.

  • Restoring OSX SERVER from Time Machine

In the past we had been using a custom rsync script to run our backup rotation (3 drives, at least one off-site every night). Now that we have Leopard server, I've shifted over to using time machine (same 3 drive rotation, but backups happen at a system level, so it "feels" more stable to me (maybe I'm naivé?).
I set up the server, and then due to a little bit of poor planning on my part had to replace the system hard drive, so I basically had to rebuild the server from scratch. I know with Leopard client when you start up you can "restore from time machine", is that possible with Leopard server? It would have saved me a couple of hours. If not I imagine my disaster recovery plan (in case of building fire, etc.) would be:
    1) get a new OSX server leopard
    2) set it up from scratch (turn on AFP, set up users and shares, etc.)
    3) get latest offsite backup drive and restore from time machine (is this even possibly on a different machine?)
Does that sound right? Am I missing something? Is there an easier way with OSX Server to "get back to your latest Time Machine snapshot"? I feel like step 2 shouldn't have to exist...

    Paul,
Thanks for the feedback. Do any of those software packages you mention do incremental backups? Our current rsync solution, and Time machine both do, which is very useful since our data is about 300 gigs and we can have a month's worth of backups on a one gig drive.
I've looked at CCC and the only solution I can find is a complete backup, which basically means:
    a) more than overnight to run a complete backup, just because of the vast number of files being transfered
    b) can only fit 3 backups (at most) on our 1gig drive
Also, can you be a little more specific about what you mean by "gets whacked". Does that mean "Can't use pretty Time Machine interface" or "can't possibly get to your data".
    Thx,

  • Upgrading ARD Client on OSX Server 10.3.9

    Hello All -
Have an OSX Server 10.3.9 which has Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.x. How can I get this updatedto at least 2.x? My ARD 3.0 Admin will not work or at least I haven't been able to get it to connect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

You keep mentioning remotely install. I'm not sure what that means to you. If you have physical access to the machine, you can run the installer from the GUI. Otherwise, over SSH is probably your best bet (using kickstart).
    Start here:

use the help command to get info on how to install the package. it's very simple.
