Manufacture defected screen

How many others have had their nano screen defect?
I was given a 4 GB Nano white for this chistmas and found in a single day it had easily recieved scratches over the screen by merely handling it while adding songs. Just today I reached into my pocket to find the screen internally busted. I had nothing else in my front pocket neither and had only went walking. I was dumbfounded to see the screen in its condition. I have had the lcd break on one of my cell phones but that was after a bad spill and could accept that. My nano on the other hand was in a protective case i bought for it that has a plastic cover for the screen and surrounding padding to prevent it from scratching further. Now I am no stranger to ipods and know that they are electronic pieces of genius that need care. I have owned an ipod mini 4GB as well as currently also own a 20 GB 4th generation ipod. They have seen their share of abuse (mind you neither had a case) and yet they are in better shape then the 4GB Nano. I am quite unhappy I assure you. I hope to take it back to the store where it was purchased and see if this situation could be resolved but at the present moment I felt a need to let others know of a "common" problem that I too encountered. (I had not known that Nanos were reported scratching easily or lcds breaking till I surfed the web after my own problem occured)

a simple google search for "nano lcd break" proves that i have some thing in "common" with other nano consumers.
i simply posted my message to show i too have had an issue.
i would like to see a counter showing how many complaints have been made and how many legitamate cases have been resolved.

  • Brand New Mac Book Pro with defective screen

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone here, purchased a brand new Mac Book Pro 13-inch: 2.9GHz with a defective screen?
I bought mine, Last June 14. I just noticed the defect last June 29 and returned it to where I purchase it at june 30.
There are somewhat 'black smudges' on the left part of the screen. I'm a graphic designer, so i know that this is a big issue for me.
Also, the fact that I'm just using it for 5 times I think, since I bought it, and there's already an issue.
At first, i was battling with the customer service (from where i bought it), They wouldn't want to give me replacement, because I already exceeded their 7 day return policy. But I'm not giving in, so then they just told me, they would send it to apple service.
It took a week for a progress, then I just got a call from Apple, that they didn't saw it either (the defect). Then I told the guy what I saw.
It's only visible with black background and with the lights turned off.
So he called again and told me that he also saw it, and told me that they would replace the Monitor.
I'm new with this, is it normally ok, that they will just replace the monitor? I mean, would it still work properly, now that they've
opened it and replaced only the defective part?
Hope you guys can give me your thoughts.
    Thank You.

Not sure what part of the world you are in but Apple has a 14 day return policy. But even with the 14 days you exceeded that time limit. So the only option is to replace the defective part and not the whole system. This is standard operating practices for any manufacturer once you have exceeded the return period.

  • Iphone 4 manufacturing defect detected after warranty runs out

I have had my iphone 4 since launch 18 months ago and now the sleep/on off button has become stuck. The Apple store said they charge £119 for a replacement.
My iphone 4 is in great condition, no marks or wear etc so this is obviously a manufacturing defect. Especially when I typed it into google I found out its a very common issue as many owners have reported it.
I cannot believe Apple are not admitting its their fault. Like when the phone first came out they blamed the antenna issue on customers not holding their phones properly...
I will never pay £119 for a replacement just to fix a button that is likely to break again and when it is not my fault.
There is also no way to contact Apple UK to complain, instead they charge people £25 for a one off incident phone support.
what I'm I to do now?
Well I have learnt my lesson and thats the fact that Apple are not as good as they are made out to be ESPECIALLY in terms of their customer service.
Even though I really want to get the iphone 5 when it comes out I will try my best not to as I fear that the level of quality of Apple products are very poor. I will have to start researching Blackberrys and Nokia phones for when my contract expires next year.
Thanks, any advice would be appreciated

I to0 have the same problem. I went to my local Apple Store today and was indeed given the same response: £119 to fix the problem, for a replacement. It is also 18 months old and no blemishes.
Now we all know Apple only give you a one year warranty wheres as most other companies give you two years. I understand you can purchase apple care but as I like the orional OP handel my goods with care I dont see the need for this. The sales of goods act as well as the EU directive states that a product has to be 'fit for purpose'.
'The UK Sale of Goods Act already offers us protection against faulty goods even when the manufacturer’s guarantee has run out and says that goods must last a “reasonable time” – which can be claimed anything up to 6 years from the date of purchase.'
Now if my phone had a smashed up screen and the button was broken off by throwing or dropping it then yes i epect to pay but simple wear and tear after 18 months is unacceptable, and to charge £119 demonstrates the lact of respect Apple has for its consumers. They may be the genuis bar what we are not mugs.

  • Does AppleCare cover manufacturing defects?

I recently got my new iPod touch 5th generation, and today I realized there was a dent in the bezel surrounding the screen. Will apple replace it?

Yes it covers manufacturing defect. However, the warranty includes this statement:
This Warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; .....
    http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ipod-english.html
Therefore, Apple may not replace it.
I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to find out.

Can you take a photo of the damage? Once before I saw an LCD that arrived truly internally cracked. The ink was in a perfect circle, writing off any user fault.
In the worst case situation, it might be worthwhile to call Lenovo and purchase a new screen. If you purchase one through them, you can get warranty support for the new screen. I realize that is a terrible alternative, as you should not have to invest more money, but it is the cheapest route to get a functioning LCD.

  • Xperia Z3 Defective screens?

Hello, i purchased Xperia Z3 from local retailer about a week ago and i had to change that unit to new one on next day because of defective screen. I think it is a manufacturing fault, because i noticed this orange lightspot right on bottom of the screen and there was also strange horisontal lines on that screen. These same problems occured also in the next replacement (patch: 15w16) and third replacement (patch: 15w18). So, now i am waiting for my 4th xperia z3 from same retailer, because of that orange spot and those weird lines were in all three previous devices i received. I am really dissapointed, because it seems that even if i get a new one, it has the same manufacturing faults on the screen, which is furstating and extremely strange. I know that those orange spots and horizontal lines are far from normal, because I had a perfect day one xperia z3, before i accidentialy dropped it and mashed it's screen, before that, there wasn't any strange spots/lightbleeds and everything was just fine. I really don't understand that how it's even possible to have exactly same defects on three xperias on the row? I really hope that this 4th xperia i receive from retailer is just perfect as it should be, if it isn't, i will demand my money back. I just would like to ask that is there any possibility that those defects could be on software? Or is it about defective charger that makes damage to all units? Does anyone else have these problems on their phones or am I really the only one with extremely bad luck?
    Edited due to foul language

My Z3 is still on 23.0.A.2.93, I guess this version .105 isn't available for D6653 yet.
Is there a change log for .105?

  • Charge customer for repair manufacturing defect

My device's side frame bulged itself when I wasn't even using it! I was so astonished by the poor quality since I bought it only five months ago. This was definitely a manufacuring fault so I sent it back. But what I got as a replay was 'the display of your device was damaged', which didn't even match the situation of my device as I didn't experience any isssues with display or screen  In addition, Sony even asked me to pay £104 for replacing the display - which was caused by their manufacturing defect!!! Now I regretted so so much buying a Sony mobile phone. I felt like being treated as a cashbox now! So disappointed with the quality of the device and the after sale support.

I'm sorry to hear that but you have to contact your local Xperia Care http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

You don't.  Apple's warranty provides for replacing your device with an identical model (same model, carrier, capacity & color).
And you aren't getting a new iPhone.  You'll be getting a remanufactured iPhone, which has gone through a more thorough inspection than any new iPhone ever does.
If you want a newer model, then trade-in or privately sell your current device and use the proceeds towards purchasing another device.

  • How to tell if the nano has a defective screen...

Ok, earlier today I had my iPod nano in my pocket with NOTHING EXCEPT THE IPOD NANO IN IT (not even headphones!). The iPod nano was in the iSee nano case and also had the decal girl crystal shield under it. I was wearing my favourite pants. They are very baggy and have huge pockets. Anyway, I was walking with the nano in my pocket for about 1 minute, and I didn't sit down. I pulled it out, and what do you know? The screen is cracked. A yucky blacky thing was in the bottom right hand corner. It looked like spilled ink (as another poster said a while ago). I turned the nano on, and the blacky thingy grew a bit and turned pixalized. The top of the screen just had a blue bar. The bottom of the screen showed a lighter blue bar. I could barely make out the menu items "Settings" and "Shuffle songs" through the bar. The total right hand side of the screen is either white of covered with the blob.
Here are some pictures. Note that the scratches are not on the nano, but they are actually on the iSee.

I contacted apple and they said that they were going to send me a box within 2 days to my house. I put the nano in and then they will decide whether to fix it or not. What I want to know is how can I tell if I really do have a defective screen? I've heard that if your screen cracks from the inside, then it is defective. If you drop your nano/put your car keys next to it and it cracks, it is your fault.
I think I have a defective one. The case itself emerged unharmed, with no new scratches (I still have yet to figure out how so many scratches could collect on the iSee nano case in little over a week). There is no dent in the case, because I didn't actually hit anything. I think my nano must be defective. According to apple's website, my nano's approximate date of purchase was October 18.
The thin clear layer of whatever it is that covers the nano screen is not cracked. Some part of the nano is cracked though. I think it is defective. How else could it crack without harming the case or the thin invisible layer or whatever without me dropping it.
Judging from this, can you tell me if it is faulty, or if it isn't faulty?

That is so stupid. Any additional pressure......
I can't believe this. When I first got the nano, I thought my only problem would be scratching, so it's been paired with a case and a screen protector since I got it. I never thought cracking would be a problem.
And why did they have to make it so thin anyways? Screw the 1GB nano, make a nano around the .33 inches thickness of a shuffle. The nano will now not crack or scratch, and I will have nothing to complain about.
I know that during the first 14 days from the date of purchase, you can get a refund on your nano. If I do get a new nano back, will I be able to get a refund, or not? The original iPod (the cracked one next to my computer) was engraved with my name. On the online form I asked apple not to engrave it, to speed up the process. My warranty will not restart, but will my date of purchse? I really want to refund this nano and forget about it. Screw the screen protectors and cases. I'll give them to my cousin. Her nano is scratched like ****.

  • Bought 4s in USA I am in India. Phone defective apple service says manufacturing defect has to be replaced. Can I do it in India or should it be sent to usa

Bought 4s while on holiday to USA I stay in India phone not working apple service says manufacturing defect. Need to be replaced. Can I do it in India. If so how? Some say have to send it to USA. Not feasible. What do I do

Not only odes it have to be serviced in the US, you cannot simply send it to the US, it must have a US return address associated with it.  So you have to send it to someone in the US who will take it in for service, retrieve it and then return to you.
iPhone warranties are very complicated and restricted to the country of origin...as Tim said, have never been international.

  • HP Pavillion dv6 - 6116 tx - Manufacturing Defect

    Hi
I have bought new laptop(HP Pavillion dv6 - 6116 tx) on last Sunday, 06-Nov-2011. Last night, I observed that there is a manufacturing defect as follows:
Down to the touch pad, side layer and top layer are not joined properly - I could see a gap in between - I need replacement for this.
I bought it from 'HP World' show room at Koramangala, Bangalore - I think, I should approach to the same HP World show room for this problem.
Before going, I want to know how much time it will take for replacement? Also, please let me know the if there is any process for replacements in case of manufacturing defects .
    Thanks

  • ALERT!!!!   MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN HAVEN

I had the same issue with the VERIZON SAMSUNG HAVEN as a number of others and everyone at the Verizon store seems to act like this is an unusual problem. It's funny how in a separate blog VERIZON has deemed this problem SOLVED. It's not.
There is a manufacturer defect in the VERIZON SAMSUNG HAVEN. VERIZON should stand by their product and replace it with a new product of equal value.  There should be a product recall instead of inconveniencing customers with the replacement process and odd looks from store salesmen.
I paid out of pocket for my phone to avoid a 2 year activation contract.  I am going to move to another carrier since I am not satisfied with this display of poor equipment.
Last time I had this issue with the HAVEN, I had to send my phone in and wait a day until it was replaced.  As a business executive, a day without a phone is incomprehensible.
I now have the same issue again and will have to go through the same rigmarole and be out another day of business.  I can see why people in this country have to have a class action suit; it takes that to have anyone listen from a company like VERIZON.
If VERIZON listens hears this e-mail, I challenge you to post a reply like the following:
"Since many customers are having the same issue with the HAVEN, please return your product for a full replacment of a different device that does not carry this same defect.  If you are not satisfied with the devices offered at this grade level, we will credit you with the cost of the device and you can change your phone."
This is the type of service we should all expect from a corporation that wants our business. VERIZON?  You listening?

Thanks for the interest and I am not a bot.
The defect is that the HAVEN freezes when using the TEXT MESSAGING options.  On my HAVENS (I have replaced it twice and now need to do it a third time), both the INBOX and SENT box indicate that the mailbox is full and messages need to be deleted when infact the messages have been deleted and there are no messages in the boxes.  When you go to empty the box, the HAVEN freezes up and you have to remove the battery to restart the phone.  When this occurs with the SENT box function, you can still send messages (but you cannot read what you sent) and an error message appears each time you send a messge saying "Message SENTBOX is full delete old".  When the INBOX fucntion malfunctions, you can no longer receive text messages.
The reason I report this as a "manufacturer defect" is that in a separate post about the HAVEN entitled (PLeeeasssse help - or something like this), a VERIZON representative indicated that this is a manufacturer defect and that the new HAVEN will not have this issue.  The VERIZON representative also directs users with this problem to bring the HAVEN into the VERIZON store to have the error message wiped out.  Well, this is inconvenient to consumers. VERIZON apparently knew or should have known about this defect BEFORE it sold me the HAVEN for approximately 160.00USC including tax.  Selling a know defective product is incomprehensible.  Additionally, the solution that they have suggested is not acceptable for busy working adults.
I am not a VERIZON hater.  My family and I, have used the company for over 6 years.  Secondly, my company of more than 500 employees, uses VERIZON.
I would expect a company to stand by their product and recall defective devices, refund money, or replace the devices with something comparable in price value - not play lip service to customers who depend on cellular telephones for important personal and business reasons.
