Outlook 2010 Won't Allow a User to Open Microsoft Office Attachments

Whenever the user attempts to open a Microsoft Office attachment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) from Outlook they are greeted with this warning:
Microsoft Excel
! The file is corrupt and cannot be opened.
                              OK
Sorry about the way this is written I am not able to add images
This issue is only affecting 1 user, opening attachments for the rest works fine.
I am able to save the attachment and Right-Click on the file and select Properties and Unblock the file which allows it to be opened.
I have researched the problem and found the Component Services settings are correct and do not need altering. Also, I have heard that switching the Protected View settings in office applications
off can solve this issue. But, wouldn't this allow potentially dangerous content to be opened as well?
Can anyone help please?

Hi,
Please navigate to the following folder and find the folder named OICE_XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXX, then check if there is any other folders in it. Please let me know the result.
In addition, you can try testing this issue within a new Windows user profile. For your reference:

  • Outlook 2010 won't send/receive at startup or at scheduled intervals

I've searched through some of the forums, but can't seem to find anything... I have a user who's Outlook 2010 won't do a send/receive at startup, nor at the scheduled intervals I have it set to.... It works in safe mode, so I have everything set right, but
when I try to go in the regular way it won't work... I've unchecked all add-ins to make them inactive, one at a time until they all were, and it still wouldn't work properly.
I've created a new profile... confirmed the send/received settings under File>Options>Advanced>Send/Receive....
    Any other suggestions?

    Hi,
Do you have any kind of virus scanner integration? It may expose itself as an add-in in Outlook, try to disable it and check the result.
Please also try if this issue persists after you create a new Send/Receive Group.
Click File, and then click Options.
    Click the Advanced tab.
In the Find Send and Recieve section, click Send/Recieve.
Under Group Name, click the group, and then click Copy.
Under Send/Receive Group Name, type the new group name, and then click OK.
Under Group Name, click the old group name.
Under both When Outlook is Online and When Outlook is Offline, click to clear the check box for Include this group in Send/Receive (F9).
    Click Close.
Quit Outlook, and then restart Outlook.

    Hi,
You may need to create a new profile to setup your account:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us
If this issue persists, you need to start/restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service on your Exchange Server. This helped some users in this thread:

  • Outlook 2010 won't open after installing icloud for windows

    Hi,
Installed icloud for windows at work this morning after moving my MM account to icloud at home on my MBP.
Installed ok but after ticking the mail, contacts, calendar and bookmark boxes on icloud for windows Outlook 2010 starts but won't open and stays on the "Processing..." for a long time before I close it.
Also the icloud for windows control panel won't reopen except the time it opens after installation. I have tried removing it and rebooting but after it's installed, if you close the control panel it won't reopen although it's still running in Task Manager. Closing it in Task Manager and restarting doesn't make a difference.
Currently I removed, rebooted and reinstalled and only have the bookmarks ticked and outlook works ok but the control panel still won't reopen.
I am on a exchange server so don't know if this is part of the problem. Not real worried about mail but would like calendars working again.
Very thankful for any help you can offer.

I had the same problem after successfully moving from MobileMe to iCloud yesterday on my PC, ipad and iphone.
Today I couldn't open Outlook 2010. An Outlook dialogue box for my MobileMe email account kept asking for the email password, and although I put the password in, it kept re-appearing.
I turned off Norton spam temporarily, because I noticed Outlook was stuck processing the Norton plug ins at opening, and managed to open Outlook but the programme crashed every time I tried to access my email account settings (I thought I would try to delete the MobileMe email account).
I then opened the Control Panel for iCloud and unchecked the Mail with Outlook box, which has enabled Outlook to work again. The @me.com email account was gone when I checked the email accounts. I never needed to use the @me.com email account anyway.
How frustrating and such a waste of my time.
Does anyone know what difference it makes if the MobileMe/iCloud email is not connected to Outlook? Does it really make any difference when you have your email accounts in the iPad and iPhone anyway?

  • Outlook 2010 won't sync over the air with my iPhone 4s

I got my iphone 4s at the same time that my work switched to Outlook 2010.  Now I can only sync calendars manually and not automatically over the air as I enter appointments.  Plus, only appointments entered on the PC will sync with the phone - appointments entered on the phone won't sync with my work calendar at all. What's going on???  I don't know if it's a phone issue or an Outlook 2010 issue, since both changed at the same time. I did notice that new appointments typed on my phone are a different color than those entered on my PC, if that matters at all (it may just be a new feature of ios5).

    Hi,
As what ManU Philip says, please check the issue in OWA firstly and try setting changes in Outlook.
Additionally, I noticed that there is an On Behalf Of in your post. If the issue is also the same on OWA, We can use the following command to check whether the user have Send on Behalf
    permission on “/O=FIRST ORGANIZATION/OU…”:
    Send On Behalf:
    Get-Mailbox -Resultsize Unlimited | ?{$_.GrantSendOnBehalfTo} | select Name,GrantSendOnBehalfTo
Please try to remove these rights and restart Outlook to check the issue existing.
If all of the above fails, Please collect the error logs in Event Viewer and post here. I would like to help you any time.
    Hope it helps.

  • Outlook 2010 won't send msgs w/links

I have Outlook 2010 and I use Yahoo mail as my relay.  Recently, any message initiated from Outlook 2010 which contains a web link won't send (stays in outbox). I have disabled all anti-virus software. I tried changing it to plain text - so that it
shouldn't even recognize it as a link. I've tried removing the hyperlink. Nothing so far has worked.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi Friend,
Open MS-Outlook in safe mode and then try to send emails. There can be lot of reasons behind such issue if your emails are going into Outlook instead of sending.
Common causes of such disturbance are:
Offline Mode (enable it or work with Online Mode)
Send/Receive Settings (Change manually to Automatically)
Wrong password (sync web based mail password with Outlook)
Corrupted Outlook Data File (use scanpst.exe to repair and then try to send emails)
Antivirus scanning programs (disable these programs)

  • Reader 9 won't allow the user to email back a pdf

I created a fillable pdf form yesterday that includes a submit email button.  I worked around the fact that it wanted to send an xml file instead of a pdf file.  It works fine in pre Reader 9 versions but Reader 9 wants to send back a data file not the actual pdf file.  Any ideas as to how to work around this issue?  I've already changed
    <submit format="xml" textEncoding="UTF-8" target="mailto":/>
    to
    <submit format="pdf" textEncoding="UTF-8" target="mailto":/>
which worked out fine until I tested it in Reader 9

Have you tired the Acrobat menu items "Advanced => Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader"?
This action will allow the user with Adobe Reader save the filled in form, and the ability to save the completed form is needed to be able to email the completed form.

  • Outlook 2010 won't sync with iCloud on the web

Outlook 2010 Calendar syncs with the iCloud Calendar in Outlook. Both are visible in Outlook, both are ticked. Calendar Sync is set up in iCloud Control Panel 2 and on settings on my iPhone & iPad. However, appointments don’t show in iPhone, iPad or iCloud on the web.

Here's what I've discovered: Outlook has two "versions," one for iCloud and one that is an Outlook data file ("My calendar"). You can check a box in Outlook to enable either of them (go to the Home tab and expand the navigation pane). The iPad does not sync with the Outlook data file. Anything entered there has to be manually copied to the iCloud version of Outlook in order to sync with iPad. So, to sync with iPad you have to uncheck "My calendar" in Outlook and then check "iCloud" and use that version of Outlook. But when I use the iCloud version, Outlook will not accept appointments sent to me by clients. It also screws up my communication with clients in other ways. So using the iCloud version of Outlook does not work for me.
I've discovered a third-party software that seems to solve this issue: Code Two Sync for iPad. You can Google it for reviews, the download link, etc. I downloaded and installed it and it immediately copied (synced?) all the appointments in the Outlook data file version of Outlook ("My calendar") to the iCloud version and synced them with my iPad. There were a bunch of duplicates, but I think there's some way to fix that. However...it also crashed Outlook on my computer (I have an older computer that is having issues). So I needed to uninstall it. I repeat, this is because my computer has been having other issues, I don't think it is the software's fault. I may try it again when I have more time to troubleshoot. Anyway, you might try this software and see if it works for you.

  • Outlook 2010 won't go back from Working Offline to Online

I am using Windows 7 Outlook 2010.  Suddenly today, an icon Working Offline appeared on the Notification Bar.  I was not working offline.  My email could not receive or send.  I rebooted more than a couple of times.  I disconnected totally from the wall outlet. It did not succeed.  I was and still am able to go online for everything else, just not Outlook.  I googled the problem and saw repeatedly that I should go to Send/Receive then Preferences and uncheck Offline.  I can't find Preferences anywhere and can't find info about where to find it.
(I am able to check my mail with Verizon Webmail but, of course, that is absolutely not what I want to have to do.)
After one of the times I rebooted, I could no longer access the Outlook Inbox.  Then it suddenly appeared again.   Right now, it is gone again.
What can I do to correct this?????  Would a System Restore help?  I hate to do that but I will if I must.
    Thanks!!!!!

I would just verify your Server settings for the Verizon e-mail account in Outlook. See this article, since Verizon may have changed some things around that caused it to go offline for you. Likely, Outlook cannot connect to the server which you can most likely find out by doing a Send and Receive.

    Hi Dale Peronteau,
I'm posting to check if the problem has been solved.
And here are the detailed steps on how to create a new profile to test this issue:
    1. Exit Outlook.
    2. Go to Start > Control Panel, click or double-click Mail.
    3. Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
    4. Click Add.
    5. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
    6. Highlight the profile, and choose Properties. Then Email Accounts.., add your email account in the profile.
    7. Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
Also, you can try to repair your Office from Control Panel > Programs and Features, right click the Office program and choose Change, then Repair.
