Over quota and rejection of incomming messages

I have put the parameter noexquota because I want to reject incomming messages for users whose quota is exceded but,
If I use messenger express, It let me send messages to this users and this users still receive messages.
And when I use messenger express it doesnt appear the pop-up telling that the user has exceed the quota.
Could you tell me if this is the right place for the parameter? There is someting more to do with this?

  • What's the point of Accept/Reject of incoming messages in iChat?

What happens when you reject an incoming message in iChat? I'm trying to understand what difference it makes to have an Accept/Reject option rather than just responding and not responding (without asking in button form).

If you use the option in the Alerts Section of the iChat Preferences to Reject chats you don't see them.
The other person gets a message you Declined.
You don't get the option to Accept the chats as you don't see them.
Setting iChat to allow Invites and then Putting up an Away Message and have iChat Auto Respond with the Away message may be more informative to your errant Buddies.

  • I am being told I am 'over quota' and this software will not open my trash. I have been trying to copy things off my inboxes to trash and then to the archives.

I cannot open my trash, it says it is now 'over quota'. I cannot even received emails if they are sent there!
I have been trying to make my settings higher in the 'advanced' menu to no avail.
I have been trying to move emails out of my INBOX to the trash and then to Archive subfolders but evidently EVERYTHING falls under this 'quota'. What the hell can I do? This is ridiculous, obscure and a terrible and extremely user-unfriendly software.

What is the exact error message?
Where is the message from, your email provider, or Thunderbird?
What is your account type, POP or IMAP?

  • How to get target file name and buffer the incoming messages?

    Hi Experts
    I have one scenarion like
I wanted to find whether is there any file existing in target folder. If it exists I dont want to overwrite it but I have to buffer the incoming messages in some queue or something like that. And when ever the request comes next time I have to send the data buffered in queue first.
I dont want to add any time stamp for target file to avoide duplication.
Can we do this using XI. If yes please suggest me how to achive this.

there is no standard way to achieve this. I suggest a redesign.
post the files to a different directory and write a script which will move the file to the required target directory only if it is not present there.

  • Exchange server 2013 content filter rejecting all incoming messages as spam.

    Hello All,
Today out of the blue our Exchange server 2013 install started rejecting any inbound message as spam. It first started with only one user not being able to receive any mail because of this anomaly and
then after 12 or so hours all users were getting their mail rejected.
I currently had the threshold set to 5 on external messages only. Internal is disabled.
I have tried setting the threshold to 8 and 9, and rebooted the server after restarting
all services just to make sure everything reset. Even dished out a IISRESET just in case. Whatever I tried still does not work.
The install is a stand alone server facing the outside world (no edge server) living
in a 2 domain controller environment with a share point farm thrown in (ESXI5.5 environment)
Everything works just fine and dandy if I disable the content filter all together. Not seeing anything in the application logs out of the ordinary. Everything was working great and the same settings I used on this server worked well for a totally different
    server that runs just fine.
    Any ideas?

This is what it is set at now. Completely disabled. It worked fine for quite some time filtering out spam pretty nicely then one day everyone's mail was being rejected as spam by the content filtering agent. I know of someone else who also had this
issue except their box was running 2008R2 with EX2007. They too disabled the content filter as it was giving them too many problems with mail being rejected.

  • Bounced mail, how to fix iCloud "over quota", and I am far from it?

We switched from MobileMe to iCloud.  Each of us have individual iCloud.  Any mail sent to my wife is bounced, reason?  Over quota!  I have checked iCloud storage and she has 3.9 Gb available.  Have tried every thing, even went to "Genius Bar" to no avail.  Have been trying to call Apple for help, two time waited 20 minutes and got disconnected.  Now my wife is using her G-mail with iCloud.  Can't use iCloud.  Any help will be welcome.  Unless you have a solution, please don't bother.
    Thanks.

    Polly,
usually there are multiple models of MacBook Pro per model number, but in the case of your model number (A1502), there’s currently only one model for that model number: 13-inch Late 2013.
To reset your MacBook Pro, you’ll need to boot into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as you start it up. When the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk (most likely the top item of the list). On the right-hand side, select the Erase tab. For the Format dropdown, select “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”. For the Name input box, “Macintosh HD” has traditionally been the default name — I don’t know if that’s still the case for the Late 2013 models. After that, press the Erase… button, and erase its entire internal disk. When it’s finished with the erasure, exit Disk Utility, and select Shut Down from the Apple menu. When you start it up again, OS X Internet Recovery will redownload Mavericks from Apple’s servers and reïnstall it on your internal disk. Once it has reïnstalled, run Software Update to get it up to date, and adjust the System Preferences to your taste.

  • Blocking messages for over quota users from the frontend

    Dear All,
Is there a way to bounce back messages from the frontend for users who are currently over quota instead of accepting the message, then routing it to the storage mailhost and then bouncing it from there? We have multiple storage mail hosts and multilpe inbound & outbound servers. All servers are running iMS 5.2 with latest patches. Due to the fact that most of the received messages are spam sent using fake addresses, bounce back messages queue up on the outboud mail servers until they expire.

    Hi,
    after reconstruct -q
user/mmmm: fixed quota root usageThis can occur overtime. It is usually not a big issue. Does user 'mmmm' reflect one of the 'problem' users? If you run recontruct -q again, do you still get these messages?
test user was able to receive mail again
    (mailuserstatus=active) until overquoted again. Than
same thing happen (empty mailboxes overquoted users)Could you please provide the output for the test user for the commands I mentioned earlier (ldapsearch/imquotacheck).
Is it a good idea to cron recontruct -q?This shouldn't be necessary. If your quota database keeps getting 'out-of-sync' then this would need to be investigated.
During reconstruct -q we also got a number of these:
    [12/Dec/2006:02:47:19 +0100] store01
    reconstruct[14600]: General Error:
set_overquotastatus: cannot get ldap attributes for
user: xxxxxxDid the user in this example exist in the directory or are they 'orphan' accounts?
Can you see an LDAP search (access logs) which correlates to this date stamp which returned an error?

    Shane.

  • Tons of Incoming Messages

I am having a big problem with Apple Mail since upgrading to Mavericks. I have iCloud mail and my work email account is using IMAP. After upgrading everything was where it should be and it all looked OK. I received a few new emails and sent some too. A little later the Mail Activity showed Incoming Messages and it just kept going and going. When the first number reached the second number (xxxxx of xxxxx), the second number would jump higher and the process repeated itself over and over. During this time it would not receive any new email. If I quit Mail and started it again it would get new mail and then go back to the Incoming Messages activity problem. I saw it get up to 16 million!! I restarted Mail and it started over again from 0. I left it on overnight and in the morning everything looked normal with new email showing in the window. Then it problem started over. Right now the Incoming Messages activity is up over 520,000. No new email is showing even though there is new email on my other Mac. What is going on?

Same problem here.  It doesn't seem to affect performance.  I have 1 gmail account syncing, 2 Office 365 accounts (one university, one work) and one .me/.mac/.mobileme/.icloud account. I honestly don't even know what the mac one is called anymore.  I cleaned up all the accounts through their respective web portals.  There is nothing in the drafts, or spam, or even inboxes.  There is a ton of archived messages in the gmail account, but no where near 22 million.
If anyone finds a solution it would be much appreciated.

  • Remote check for over-quota condition of the mailbox

At least while migrating, and perhaps afterwards, our system utilizes a relay based on sendmail which trims a lot of spam based on simple rules (milter-greylist, milter-regex, banner delay, DNS RBL) and passes the rest to an internal system (some domais go to specific boxes and mostly to our old mail server, now the new Sun MS).
After implementing Sun JES infrastructure, LDAP in particular, we added LDAP routing to sendmail so that the relay knows which usernames exist - and this tremendously decreased bounce letters due to spam for inexistent recipients (now the error is returned within SMTP dialog of spammer to relay).
However I can imagine that when some users' boxes climb over quota and perhaps exceed grace time so their mails won't even be queued by Sun MS, we'll again have a flow of bounces from Sun MS to spam senders.
The question is: Is there some LDAP flag-attribute that is set for overquota boxes, so our relay can take that into account?
I think it is easily possible to craft one if it does not exist now (i.e. with a cron script), but perhaps I'd reinvent the wheel? (Again!?)

For reference, here are the tricks I used to configure the sendmail relay to know about
domains and users defined in Sun Messaging Server.
    1) Since we custom-built sendmail, I had to define LDAP in site.config.m4 and rebuild, i.e.:
    APPENDDEF(`confMAPDEF', `-DLDAPMAP')
    APPENDDEF(`confLIBS', `-lldap')
    APPENDDEF(`confINCDIRS', `-I/usr/local/include')
APPENDDEF(`confLIBDIRS', `-L/usr/local/lib')Stock binaries of many distributions have LDAP support built in already, this can be
    checked by a command like:
    # /usr/lib/sendmail -d0.1 -bv root | grep LDAP
Compiled with: DNSMAP LDAPMAP LOG MAP_REGEX MATCHGECOS MILTER MIME7TO8
SASLv2 SCANF USERDB USE_LDAP_INIT XDEBUGWe don't need to extend the DSEE schema with the one supplied with sendmail,
Sun's Messaging Server schemas are adequate. We only need to point sendmail
query filters to the correct attributes.
    2) In sendmail.mc I defined 3 lines, the connect spec to our LDAP server named
"dps" (can be quickly redefined via /etc/hosts), the LDAP routing search filter
(note: it's one very log line), and a ldaproute-domains file which lists names of
recipient domains which should be looked up in LDAP (one domain per line; it
does not need to be compiled by makemap):
    dnl # See http://www.sendmail.org/m4/ldap_routing.html
dnl # mailuserstatus=overquota can be set by Sun Messaging store server
dnl # mailuserstatus=inactive, etc. may be set by DA admin
dnl # dps is the directory (proxy) server name
    define(`confLDAP_DEFAULT_SPEC',`-h dps -b dc=domain,dc=com)dnl
    FEATURE(`ldap_routing', `ldap -1 -T<TMPF> -v mailHost -k (&(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)(|(mailuserstatus=active)(inetmailgroupstatus=active))(|(mail=%0)(mailLocalAddress=%0)(mailalternateaddress=%0)(mailequivalentaddress=%0)))', `ldap -1 -T<TMPF> -v mailRoutingAddress -k (&(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)(|(mailuserstatus=active)(inetmailgroupstatus=active))(|(mail=%0)(mailLocalAddress=%0)(mailalternateaddress=%0)(mailequivalentaddress=%0)))', `bounce')dnl
LDAPROUTE_DOMAIN_FILE(`/etc/mail/ldaproute-domains')dnlRecipients' addresses (or aliases) should be defined in the attributes checked above,
    have an objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient and a mailuserstatus=active.
At least one of the attributes, mailHost (set by DA while provisioning users) and/or
mailRoutingAddress, should have a value in order to match the query.
See details on how sendmail interprets the query results in the docs: [http://www.sendmail.org/m4/ldap_routing.html]
Note/TODO: These rules don't check for inactive domains as a whole.
    3) Of course, the config file template sendmail.mc must be compiled to actual
configuration file sendmail.cf, with our paths that would be this command:
    # cd /usr/lib/sendmail-cf/m4 && m4 /etc/mail/config/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf4) Populate /etc/mail/ldaproute-domains with the domain name(s) already supported
by the LDAP server, one domain per line. Any other domains are subject to "old"
routing method(s) which was configured on the relay (i.e. mailertables, etc.):
    # /etc/mail/ldaproute-domains
    # This file lists domains which have actual usernames to receive messages.
    # Catch-all domains are listed directly in mailertable.
    domain.com
    test.domain.com
    hosteddomain.org
#willmigrateandupdate.anotherdomain.org5) Restart sendmail, watch the logs for a while, try to submit mails to existing and
inexistant users, to active and inactive ones, etc...
    Enjoy the no-bounce world :)

The Customer has about 150K boxes
They have requirement to keep the over-quota messages for 7-14 days. They may want to re-think this requirement. The reality is that due to the masses of spam email mailboxes are getting full very fast and storing emails for over-quota messages results in the systems having to process these bounces, which in turn clogs other mail channels.
They feel, channel might get clogged and there fore looking for a custom channel optionThe short answer is no, you cannot do this. Once the email has made it to the ims-ms queue there it stays waiting for delivery. If the email is 'over-quota' then the ims-ms channel will just keeping waiting to deliver the email -- much the same as any other channel.
As for the channel getting "clogged", this is always a possibility and it will need to be tuned/configured as appropriate. The customer may want to increase the "backoff" parameters to reduce the number of retries.

  • LDAP Over Quota checks

Hi, currently I am utilizing 2 X1050s. I'm getting ready to add in an M1050. Has anyone (or is it possible) set these up to do over quota checks when the mail comes "in the front door?" I would like the M1050 to do the check so that it never gets down to my mailstores. Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, that feature is not currently available on the AsyncOS.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're looking for the ability for the M-series to verify or query the mailserver to see if the recipient/user has exceeded their mail quota space on the internal mailserver prior to releasing a quarantine message.
The future request would be that the M-series query the mailserver prior to releasing the quarantine message and seeing if the recipient's quota is near the red mark and close to filling up. Of course, it would have to be accomodating enough to support the major mailservers out there (i.e. Sendmail, Exchange, Domino, Groupwise, etc).
Sorry it's been so long for me to get back to this!
Yes, mail is coming in our front door, passing through IronPort then when it gets allocated down to the mail stores it finds out the user is over quoata and then in just sits in our mail queue on the mail store. I was wondering if there was a way, when the mail comes in, for the Ironport M1050 to check LDAP, see if the user is over quota and take care of it there.

  • HT4864 I upgraded my iCloud capacity AFTER I already had my email shut down.  Now all inbound email rejects and senders get a notice that my email is "over quota."  Apple support requires a serial number, but this is about iCloud and I do not have a Mac.

I upgraded my storage AFTER I received an email that my iCloud email will be shut off until I was no longer over capacity.  I can now send emails, but when anyone sends me an email it rejects and they receive a message that I am "over quota."

If you have an iCloud account it must have been created on a Mac or iOS device.  Provide the serial number of that device in order to reach Apple support.

  • Quoting/threading phenomena in mail.app -- due to problems in incoming messages?

    Folks:
    Mail 5.1 on MacOS 10.7.x
I began using Mail.app when I installed 10.7, shortly after the initial release.
No problems with respect to unformatted email or replying to short, trivial length formatted message.  For complex, on-going discussions  I feel that consistent and reliable quoting and threading behavior are essential.   But that is not happening in some cases. I'd like to figure out why, and what I might do to fix the issue.
(Note:  I do not want to get into a discussion here of formatted versus unformatted email.  Both have their pros and cons. Nor do I want to spend a lot of time debating this issue with my correspondents.  As a matter of courtesy, I set Mail.app to respond using the same message format as the original message.)
When I reply to a formatted email,  I notice that mail.app sometimes draws a dark grey box --with rounded corners-- around one or more incoming paragraphs, placing a circled "X"  "close icon" at the upper left.   I don't get it.  To what does this correspond?  Why does mail.app mark-off this text and offer a "close icon"?   As far as I know I'm not doing anything that implies I might want to delete the text.
(Note:  Rummaging around in the corresponding message source, it seems that these boxes correspond to blockquoted text in the received message.)
Editing within one of these boxes is really unpredictable.  Sometimes I can select an insertion point and insert a line-break, in preparation of replying to the text just above.  Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes I can select text, and cut it. Sometimes nothing happens at all to the selected text.
Mail.app commonly doesn't  correctly increase the quoting level in such paragraphs.  Using
        Format> Quote Level>Increase
to maintain threading history manually is fairly easy since I've defined a function-key shortcut, which works some of the time -- but  the effect of this command is unpredictable.  Sometimes this command deletes the selected text entirely.  (Grrrrrr!)  The workaround I've found is to select smaller chunks of text.  In such cases, this command generally works correctly.
Meanwhile, messages from exactly one person --who uses gmail exclusively-- are displayed in a completely unique threaded format by mail.app.  The entire short history of 5 messages from him are displayed on multiple virtual sheets in one message window, with the latest first.    In one view, clicking on the "see more" link at the bottom of his messages unleashes a cool-looking accordion opening effect and displays my part of the thread. (I guess.  I don't totally understand this display concept.  But it looks very cool and seems to handle quoting and threading pretty well.)
    What's going on?
My best guess is that mail.app is struggling with "inconsistencies" in the incoming messages from different people using various email clients.  I seem to recall reading that email tech specs  are a hodgepodge of evolving and contradictory  standards. Is that correct?   Is that the root of my issue?
Many of my correspondents are non-tekkies and/or non-affluent, and they use whatever email client they can afford.  Some could be using really old email clients.  That doesn't help, right?  Are blockquotes a really archaic formatting measure?
When these problems occur, they can cost me a lot of time and trouble.  It's really distracting to have to deal with portions of the incoming message disappear.
I don't think it is practical to persuade my correspondents to upgrade their email clients.  Some of them have trouble simply setting the preferences to support quoting.   Threading is a difficult concept for a few.
Any suggestions?   Any mail.app preference settings I might try adjusting?  Any add-ins?   Is it possible to tell Mail.app "interpret all incoming blockquotes tags as simple breaks" or strip them entirely?  Or ...?
    TIA

    haavee:
Thanks for your reply on this thread.
And thanks for the confirmation:  Yes, often difficult, and completely unworkable in some cases.
To my surprise, I've been able to find very few people reporting similiar observations.  Very little about this issue at all on the web.
I looked for command-key variations on Format --> Make Plain Text, hoping for a block action, but none I tried was any different.
Here is my current view of the issue:
    • For formatted messages, each email client operates differently.  If there is a standard it seems to be no more robust than "use simple HTML for formatted messages".
    • The "can't insert" issue, as well as those mysterious rectangle-surrounded blocks, seems very correlated with the presence of html <div> sections in the message.  It is awkward to experiment, so I've only done a limited amount.  My observations so far:
-- I don't think you can insert text anywhere "inside" a <div>, and mail.app seems to treat <div> as a "sticky" attribute -- e.g/ very difficult/impossible to remove without deleting the text inside.  The copy-style method doesn't seem to affect <div> tags.
-- Based on one case, it appears that message bodies composed of back-to-back <div> sections are impervious to inserts anywhere. (The email client used by one particular person with whom I've corresponded seems to build messages out of --you guessed it-- back-to-back <div> sections. Putting on my HTML coders hat -- I cannot see any sense at all in doing this. Smells to me like a kludge/hack, as you prefer.)
    • What about an applicable mail.app add-in?  I can find mail.app add-ins, but it seems the  mail.app tech info (API) isn't public, so those that exist are based on guesswork about how it works. This means that add-ins must be re-tooled possibly for each new version of mail.app. Altogether, not encouraging for add-in developers. And, yes, consistent with that the range of functionality I've seen is rather limited.  So, I've given up looking in the add-in category.
    • Applescript has commands for controlling mail.app generally, but I didn't see anything approaching the level of function necessary to remove <divs> by global search-and-replace. (I'm far from an Applescript expert, so it is very possible I missed something.) Nor did I see any general command such as Clean up dodgy HTML in message.  (I can dream!)
The only bit of progress I've had is finding TextSoap: http://www.unmarked.com/textsoap/ which may have promise. But I have had no time to evaluate it and it may be a month or so before I get a chance to check it out.
Looking at the upper right of the window in which I'm composing this message, there's a button "HTML" that lets me see --and edit-- the underlying HTML. On first glance, there's not enough functionality to, say, efficiently clean up all insert-resistant blocks in a message, but it looks practical to clean up individual blocks, and maybe that's all it would take.    Though I imagine that the user base for these forums is not very different from that of mail.app, I'm guessing adding this function to mail.app isn't even a dim possibity.  Oh, well...
I note you are happy with your solution, so I'll try see if a variation of it might help me.
    Thanks,

  • Infinite Incoming Messages and other Strange things...

I am currently experiencing an issue where Mac OS X Mail shows that there are "Incoming Messages... 10 of 25", However, the 'downloading bar' hasn't budged for the last few days, and I have received no incoming messages. This issue has just suddenly occurred one morning when I woke up and I can find no cause for it yet. It is definitely not a problem with anything other than Mail.app as my iPod Touch is receiving the emails fine on the same WiFi connection. I have tried everything including restarts to fix the problem, and so far nothing has worked. Something even stranger, is that another account in Mail is receiving emails, but delayed by several hours behind my iPod Touch.
And stranger still, whilst I say I have been receiving no messages, I have actually been receiving one.... over and over and over again... it's now reached 15 times. Exactly the same email, same 'Date Received', same everything. So I don't want my mailbox filled up with the same duplicate email so I select them all and hit delete. Gone... However, if I click in another part of Mail and then come back to my inbox... Gasp! All of my duplicate emails have mysteriously re-appeared from the garbage So I thought I'd try deleting another random email, but the same thing happened... it had soon come back from the dead and popped back into my Inbox.
So I've done all of the obvious things like Quit Mail, and restart the computer, but nothing has worked so far. And one more odd thing... Each time I re-open Mail another one of those duplicate emails arrives.
If anyone has any ideas what so ever on what could be causing this issue or ways I could fix it, I'd love to hear them and would appreciate any responses.
Thanks a lot and I look forward to any posts.
    Cheers,
    Cuby

I am having pretty much the same problem. Every time I start mail it downloads the same emails over again and gets stuck on 56 of 199. I have tried deleting the cache, but that didn't help.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Craig
