Oversize A2 Paper Size value(string) for HP Designjet 500 Plus 24 (Paper Roll).

Greetings.
I am working at constructor’s bureau. Recently we decided to automate drawing printing from SolidWorks program (it’s a CAD software). I have written a code. SolidWorks API allows to choose for printing such settings as paper tray, scale, color, orientation and paper size. I am having an issue with the last option. Paper size gets set by passing value (string). Here are some of them: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd319099(v=vs.85).aspx. I can get the needed value by “Recording macro” and selecting the size I need in SolidWorks
Such paper sizes as A4, ISO A4, Oversize A4 have different numbers. Same goes for A3, A2 and etc. In addition, the values are not universal. They can alter depending on printer.
We have 5 printers for various paper sizes (from A0 to A4) and I set correct value for 4 of them, but I have a trouble with – “HP Designjet 500 Plus 24”. This printer can print both A1 and A2. I managed to make A1 printing work (I just pass value 621 that means “Overize A1”, without changing paper tray), as for A2 the value must be 620 that is "Oversize A2", but it does not work. Only part of the drawing gets printed and it gets placed somewhere in the middle. I guess it just prints according to printer default settings. Maybe the value is not 620? If it is so, can you tell me the real one?
I can try to change default settings to match the A2 printing. However, the printer itself is a network printer. So changing some settings there might get someone in the office angry. So getting the right values is a perfect solution.
I am slowly getting desperate, because all printers work perfectly, except for one. Which makes the code unusable. I can post the code, but it will not help much, because I only need to set one or two values correctly.
One more thing, we are using roll of paper, so maybe I have to also set the paper tray, even if it is still the same as for A1?
Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Do you got the same error for any of the drivers below?

If the same happens for both of the drivers above try following these steps, the steps for Windows 7 should be the same as listed for Windows Vista in the article:

  • How do I get OS X to ask printer for custom paper size

I am printing postcards.  These are 1/4 of a letter sheet, or 5.5" wide x 4.25" tall.
I have a commercial grade HP Laserjet 4350, and I've configured that size in its custom menu for tray 1 (the envelope feeder tray). The printer is happy.
I've also set a custom paper size in the MacOS, that I've called "Postcard Quarterpage" and I have that selected in the print dialog.  In fact I made it default.
However, under Paper Handling, it says "Destination paper size: Suggested paper: US Letter" and this is greyed out.  If I check "Scale to fit paper size" which I Do Not Want, then I can pick a variety of sizes.  However my custom size is not in the list.
This happens on all applications, so it is definitely OS X Mountain Lion (latest patch).
Anyway, the upshot is MacOS requests US LETTER size from the printer, so the printer goes "Take this postcard stock out and gimme US LETTER".    The printer can detect paper sizes.  If I try to give it postcards anyway, it blows an error and won't print, which is what it should do.
How do I get OS X to tell the printer "Gimme 5.5x4.25" like I've instructed it?

    Hi there Wolf!
I have a couple of articles here that I believe will help you out with your question. First, here is an article with some information on custom paper sizes:
OS X Mountain Lion: Manage custom paper sizes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10748
Note that in that article, it states:
Custom paper sizes aren’t available for some printers.
The reason for that is because this is controlled by the driver for the individual printer. You will want to make sure you have the latest version of the printer driver installed on your computer. More information on this can be found in the following article:
Printer and scanner software available for download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
It might also be helpful to reset your printing system to see if that will resolve the issue. More information on this process can be found here:

  • Why can´t I create custom paper sizes in millimeters?

Since I upgraded to Tiger (?) or since I bought (?) my new Epson printer RX700 I can´t customize paper sizes in millimeters. For example the value 12,1x12,2 gets evened out to 12x12. This happens regardless of programs I try to print from. Epson has no solution to the problem. Is it a cumputer problem?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   768 MB, 1,8 GHz

Thanks for your answer. I was trying in Aperçu, Acrobat Reader and Firefox. After your post, I did try in Safari and had the same rouding problem, as I expected since the custom page size management seems to be an OS X function used by all applications.
May be the error is in the way I type the paramters in the page size boxes : I type, e.g., "12,5 cm" which is transformed into "13 cm" when I hit another control ?
I tried other formats whithout success :
    "125 mm" -> "125 cm" !
    "125 pt" -> error message
    "12.5 cm" -> error message
    "4,92 in" -> error message
    "12,5" -> "13 cm"
I also tried to set System Preferences > International > Formats > Measurement units to "American" instead of "Metric". Then I could enter sizes in inches but non-integer values were also rounded to the nearest integer.
How do you enter decimal values into the size boxes ?

  • MF4370dn Paper Size 8.5x7

I'm trying to add the paper size of 8.5x7 so I can print to that size.  Windows 7, 32 bit, Canon MF4360-4390 driver.
In the driver, I select Preferences, Custom Paper Size... and enter the new size with a new name.
    Name Invoices 8.5x7
    Width 8.5"
    Height 7"
Then I click Register and I receive the message
"The width is greather than the height.  Etner values iwth teh height greater than or equal to the width for [Paper Size]."
This doesn't make sense to me.  Can anyone help me add and print to an 8.5x7 piece of paper?
    TIA, rasinc

Did you set the papersize on that format fixed on the Epson?
Because you need to know your margins of your epson so you can define the fixed paper size in your report.
Then define in your paper layout if you don't use the header section put height and width to 0 and define in the body sectoin your actual paper size and on your trailer section put it also to 0
    Hope this can help

  • How can I select paper size while in print preview ?

I have a printer with four different paper trays, and each one is loaded with different size of paper: A3, A4, Legal, envelopes. When I use IE 11, I can easy go to print preview, click on page setup (little gear icon), select paper size , margins, etc.. there, and when i hit OK, the page is adjusted to the settings I selected and its ready to print, and printer selects the proper size of the paper automatically
In Firefox v32, I can almost do this same, but I'm stuck with printing only on A4 style paper, as I don't see where to select the paper I want to print on !
I tried to select A3 and legal paper in the printer driver, but then firefox used the selected paper, but printout on the paper came out as set to A4 size, and rest of the page was empty ! Also I was not able to see the page preview of the selected paper either. How do I then print on other size papers than a4 ?
I found only one workaround which does not suits my needs but works: First: Go to printer driver and select legal or A3 paper as default, and then open firefox. If I do that i can print on any paper I select, but thats a horrible workaround, because then I often forget to change the default paper size back inside the printer driver, and i print my documents on wrong paper, wasting paper, ink and time...
Please let me know if there is a way to fix this printing feature somehow.
    Thanks.

    MichalB,
Sorry, IMO there is no real "fix" for what you are experiencing. Printer prefs set or changed in the operating system won't affect Firefox printing ''[IMO, either ancient code in Firefox or a "cross-browser thing".]'' Firefox has its' own settings for prefs and it defaults to the "last used" for all printer preference setting. And there is no way to set a pref as "use now and return to my defaults after this print job is completed".
As you have found out, there is no way of changing paper size from the Print Preview screen. Other prefs - Margins & Header/Footer can be changed via Page Setup and you can see changes in the Preview window, but not for paper size. As ''CoryMH'' mentioned, '''paper size''' is selected thru what called the "native print dialog" box using the '''Properties''' button which shows a window provided by your printer software for the Printer which is selected in the "native print dialog" window, and accessed after you hit the Print button in the Print Preview screen.
Problem is that you can't '''"preview"''' what is going to be printed when you change paper size. If you go back to Print Preview without printing from the "native print dialog" the change for Paper Size isn't saved for viewing in Print Preview!
IMO, it would be nice if Firefox recognized each "tray" as a separate printer, so that a user could set Margins & Header/Footer prefs AND paper size per tray. IOW, a feature sort of writing a completely new print module that would reflect "today's" environment with multiple tray printers; rather than to continue using the print module that was built by Netscape back in '94 - '95, which we are stuck with almost 20 years later.
''As I sit here shaking my head after composing this reply, wondering why the issues I had back in 2002 with printing from Firefox / Firebird / Phoenix haven't been corrected in the last 14 years.''
''I do like "old stuff", and have a vehicle sitting my driveway that rolled out of the showroom 30 years ago come October 1 - a 35th birthday present I purchased for myself. [85 Corolla GTS TwinCam coupe - aka Sprinter in GTA] But as far as computer software, I prefer it to be compatible with hardware made in this century.''

  • Excel 2010 bug -- cannot place controls on chart properly after changing paper size

I have encountered unexpected behavior in Excel 2010 when placing controls on a chart that is a separate sheet. The issue is that the controls (e.g. spinner, scroll bar, etc.) cannot be placed or moved to the right side or the bottom.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) create a chart as a separate sheet
    2) change the paper size to, for example, A6 (4.13" x 5.83")
    3) change paper size back to Letter (8.5" x 11")
    4) controls cannot be placed on right side or bottom of chart.
It appears that instead of using the current dimensions of the chart paper size to determine where controls may be placed, the smallest dimensions that have ever been applied to the chart are used.
I am looking for a workaround for this issue since I would like to use a paper size large than 8.5" x 11", but I cannot place controls on such a chart properly at this time.
    Any ideas?

I have found a workaround for this issue:
    1) change paper size in your default printer's preferences to the paper size you want in Excel.
    2) afterwards insert or create the chart. It is automatically the correct paper size, and controls can be placed or moved properly.
    3) change default printer paper size back.
In case your chart has already been created, simply copy the existing chart in step 2 instead of inserting/creating.

  • PS CS6 ignoring paper size

    I'm trying to print a 24 x 34 print to an HP Z3100.
Everything sets fine in the HP driver, but when it comes back to the Photoshop print dialog box, PS still thinks it's printing to an 8 1/2  x 11 sheet.
How do I get Photoshop to 'listen' to what the printer is supposed to be doing?
    Thanks
    T.O.

    Hello Chris,
Something's up with CS6 and the HP driver for the Z3100.  I've used my Z3100 for 5 years with CS4 & CS5, when I try to print with CS6 it screws up.  After you set up the paper size, profiles, etc and exit out to print, the paper size defaults back to 8 1/2 x 11.  I was even trying different custom sizes.   I even tried entering a custom paper size in Windows so it shows up as a standard paper size in the printer setup window.  When you close out the printer setup it defaults back to 8 1/2 x 11.  If I open up CS5, select the same paper size in the printer setup, same file, same paper, same profile, same color space then exit out to print, the paper does not get resized and everything prints fine.  Luckily I kept a copy of CS5 on a flash drive after installing CS6 and was able to load both on my computer.  Kind of sucks to edit in CS6 and print in CS5, especially after spending all this money on CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6 over the past 10+ years.
I was searching on line and realized I wasn't the only one having this issue with CS6.  This is how I found out it wasn't my computer.  Installed CS5 and everything works as expected.  Tried again with CS6 and no go…
    I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, CS5 64 bit.

  • HP 6510e not printing custom paper sizes

I have recently purchased a HP Photosmart 6510e printer. I called HP Tech support from the store where I bought the printer and specifically asked if this printer would print custom paper sizes. I was told it would. I tried to print an invitation on a paper size of 5.5  X  8.5. The printer keeps giving me an paper mismatch error. The paper size shows up in the list of paper sizes, but has an exclamation Point beside it. If I click on teh paper size it changes to 8.5 X 11.
i am using a PC with Windows 7 OS.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The Officejet 6510 software drivers for Windows does not have an option for custom paper sizes. I checked for the paper size (5.5x8.5) you were trying to print on and it is not an option under the paper sizes. The only option is probably to have your printer replaced with a comparable Laserjet printer. Laserjet printer have a different software package and the one I checked (Laserjet Pro M275) has a Custom option.
