OWB 10.2.0.2 - Problems

I have a repository on OWB 10.2.0.2. When I try to change something on a table I get an error about Invalid Upgrade Path. I have given the necessary permissions to the target schema and I have noticed that this happens mainly on tables with constraints.
To overcome this problem I'm trying to upgrade to patch set 10.2.0.3. I have successfully upgraded my server which is Windows 2003, but I am not able to do this on a client running Fedora 8 x86_64. The error message is that "OUI-10091: There are no patches that need to be applied from the patchset 10.2.0.3.0".
If there is a solution regarding the first problem, there is no other reason to do the upgrade. Can anybody help?
Thanx in advance.

Don't use Update as deploy action. Rather use Replace or Drop and Create.

  • OWB Scheduled job generates infrastructure problem..

    Hi everyone,
    I'm experincing a strange problem while scheduling a process flow using OWB schedule. The job is created and started fine. But the job throws up an exception of the kind 'Infrastructure Problem' etc when the machine is shut down after I start the job from the Control Center. The oracle enterprise manager shows that the job is scheduled and enabled after the job is started via the Control Center.
    Can anyone suggest anything regarding this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sayantan,
    Which machine is being shut down, the design client? If so do you use the control center on that machine?

  • How to solve problem After patch 10.2.0.4 applying on owb 10.2.0.1

    HI OWB Gurus,
    We have recently a patchapplied for oracle 10g .
    prev version was oracle 10 g r2 10.2.0.1
    new version is 10.2.0.4 ( patchset 4)
    After patch applied at database and owb level there are some problem we are facing like
    ETL process is very slow , cpu is going to 100% after start any mapping.
    and audit browser are not opening.
    Can any one help me on this so that we can resolve the problem.
    - Umesh

    Hi Umesh,
    This might help you in diagnosing the client's performance
    Accurate optimizer statistics are generally very important. They are gathered automatically at OWB install time and the Design Center -> Tools -> Optimize Repository menu selection is available to refresh them on an as needed basis.
    The DBA can always help by pre-expanding tablespaces, making sure multiple tablespaces are available on separate disks or disk arrays so that I/O to indexes, metadata tables, snapshot tables, DB undo and redo logs, etc., can be evenly distributed.
    With more complex metadata in this OWB release, you can expect many JDBC round-trips to the DB. Network latency can have a big impact on performance. To see how much time the owbclient uses for JDBC roundtrips to the DB, add the following line to Preference.properties in <owb home>/owb/bin/admin on your client machine:ClientProfile=true
    Run OWB, then check ClientProfile.log in the admin directory. Keep in mind that a ping to localhost is probably about 0.025 ms, to another machine in the LAN about 0.25 ms. If the roundtrips are greater than 40 ms, then the issue is likely related network latency.
    The two basic workarounds for network latency are:
    -Remote control an OWB client machine that is physically close to the server.
    -Do design-time work on a local repository, then MDL export the work for import to a central repository.
    If the client and server are not on the same (high bandwidth) LAN, then total available bandwidth may become a factor. Same thing if the DB server is heavily loaded with respect to CPU or I/O, or if all your OWB design-time metadata is located on the same tablespace on the same hard drive. Distributing projects across multiple repositories which use their own
    tablespaces spread across multiple hard drives would be very desirable.
    The object editors are more functional and complex, as such, the required processing power to render them is greater (processor > 2GHz) Also note the OWB client software is mostly single-threaded, so it won't take advantage of multiple processors on one machine.
    Long running sessions or large bulk operations (MDL import, validation, generation, deployment over large or multiple modules) can push up against the JVM memory limit. If performance begins to suffer due to memory, either:
    a)exit and restart the OWB session;
    b) if adequate physical memory exists, increase the -Xmx and -Dlimit values in the owbclient and OMBPlus startup scripts to better accommodate large operations.
    ie.
    If you have 2 GB or more, backup and edit owb\bin\win32\owbclient.bat file and modify line starting with %JAVAPATH
    ie.
    %JAVAPATH%\jre\bin\java -Xms128M -Xmx1024M -Dlimit=1024M -XX:MaxPermSize=1024M
    This will add more memory to JVM for OWB client. Do the same for owb.cl file
    Hope this will add some value.
    Best Regards,
    Prasad Bolla.

  • OWB Can't Import Existing Package with Collection Data Type as Arguments

    I created a package and compiled it successfully as the follows:
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE PACKAGE_TEST AS
    TYPE Num_LIST IS TABLE of NUMBER INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION1 ( arg1 NUMBER, arg2 NUMBER) RETURN NUMBER;
    FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION2 ( args NUM_LIST) RETURN NUMBER;
    END PACKAGE_TEST;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY PACKAGE_TEST AS
    FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION1 ( arg1 NUMBER, arg2 NUMBER) RETURN NUMBER IS
    ln_sum NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    ln_sum := arg1 + arg2;
         RETURN ln_sum;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    RETURN -10000;
    END TEST_FUNCTION1;
    FUNCTION TEST_FUNCTION2 ( args NUM_LIST) RETURN NUMBER IS
         ln_sum NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    ln_sum :=0;
         FOR i IN 1.. args.COUNT LOOP
         ln_sum := ln_sum + args( i );
         END LOOP;
         RETURN ln_sum;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    RETURN -10000;
    END TEST_FUNCTION2;
    END PACKAGE_TEST;
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Then I tried to import the package into OWB (9.2). The problem came: all the package body and
    the specification of TEST_FUNCTION1 were imported, but the package specification of
    TEST_FUNCTION2 couldn't be imported. The IMPORT FILTER gave an error message:
    "TEST_FUNCTION2: Argument Data type is not supported".
    How to resolve this problem? It is very import for our project, since we have to import some
    packages with user_defined collection data types as arguments.
    Thank you.
    Lushu

    Hi Lushu,
    Unfortunately this is indeed not supported and I would not know how to work around this one. The only way I guess that this would work is to not import it, and then use Expressions to call the function with inputs.

  • Import and Export MDL error with OWB Release 2

    Getting the following error when importing and exporting MDL - any assist would be appreciated - never had this issue with previous releases - error as follows:
    Error occurred exporting metadata to file "C:\TEMP\MY_PROJECT-20061208_1058.mdl".
    java.lang.Exception: CNV0002-0038(ERROR): Cannot write to file ./../../reposasst/converter.properties. Please make sure that write privileges are enabled or that disk is not full.

    I got the solution. OWB writes some temporary xml files before importing/exporting mdl and these files are stored in OWB home directory. The problem is write privileges on the OWB Home directory. I am not local admin of my system. Admin installed the OWB client on my system through his userid. Now if i try to create a directory or file in OWB home directory it thorws an error "Access Denied". I got the Admin rights on my local system for my userid and now OWB is working fine.
    Thanks.

  • Source registration-successful with one  problem with other

    Hi everyone,
    I have two schemas icecube_cur_ownr and icecube_his_ownr.
    I can access the two schemas from SQL plus,toad.The TNS entries are as follows
    icecube_cur_ownr=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxx.xx.xx.xx)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PRIMARY)
    icecube_his_ownr=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xx.x.xx.xxx)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CADS)
    Also I am able to register the icecube_cur_ownr as a source and succesfully import the tables in OWB through design centre
    The problem is with icecube_his_ownr.During the registration process,when I try to test the connection it pops me an error in the test results
    ORA-12170 :TNS:connection timeout occurred
    Ignoring the error,I proceeded to import the tables and the error message popped up is as follows
    SQL exception
    Reporsitory error:SQL exception
    Class Name:cacheMediator
    Method Name:getDDentry from DB
    Repository error message:ORA-12170 :TNS:connection timeout occurred
    Wondering why the connection is successful for one source and failing for the other as I have followed the same procedure for both the cases.
    Could you please guide me to solve this.
    Thanks Much
    Sridh

    Hi,
    it's different because you connect to diffferent instances.icecube_cur_ownr=PRIMARY, icecube_his_ownr=CADS.
    Did you use the same TNS-Entry to connect with the CADS per sqlplus? If you have several oracle_homes you cannot be not really sure what tnsnames.ora the owb uses.
    So look for some other tnsnames.ora files on this machine and verify the entries for icecube_his_ownr. Perhaps they differ.
    Or use the host/port/Service-method to create the source location to icecube_his_ownr, not the tns option.

  • OWB 10g iAS requirements

    I read in other forum threads that the 9i database came with an HTTP server that was sufficient to run the OWB reports. I'm running a 10g database and OWB. I can't find an HTTP server that came bundled with the 10g DB. Also, the "standalone" 10g HTTP server that I downloaded from OTN doesn't have a DAD configuration option. I interpret that to mean that the 10g standalone HTTP server isn't sufficient to run the OWB reports. The full 10g iAS server has memory requirements that prevent it from installing on my box. Do these observations/conclusions make any sense? Any recommendations for the simplest method of getting access to the 10g OWB reports?
    My underlying problem is that when I deploy, I get Failure messages. The text behind the failure messages refers me to the "Impact Report". The help text indicates that an iAS Portal is required to view the Impact Report. Something to help me understand the failure messages, even if it didn't involve iAS or the HTTP listener would also be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    I installed the 10g standalone HTTP server, but the initial welcome page didn't offer a DAD configuration link that was mentioned in some of the OWB configuration instructions on a different thread in this forum. Does that mean that I set up the HTTP server wrong, or that the DAD can't be configured through the browser, or that the 10g standalone HTTP server doesn't come with a DAD feature, or something else?

  • Working on ETL tools interoperability using Common Warehouse Model (CWM)

    Hi All,
    Its just a piece of information and not a question.
    I have been working on proving the ETL tools interoperability using Common Warehouse Metamodel(CWM), an OMG standard. The whole concept is to take out the metadata from an ETL tool say OWB and put it into CWM Metadata Repository and this metadata can be used for building the same project in any other tool say Informatica or may be in the same ETL tool.
    The main thing in this process is to map each ETL tool with the CWM concepts and then using Model to Model Tranformations(Technologies like Xtend) one can set up a communication between different ETL tools.
    Till now I have worked with OWB only. I, with my team, have extracted all information from an OWB project (which has medium level of complexity like two oracle modules(schemas) and few tables, views and mappings with various operators) and put it in CWM repository and extracted it back from CWM MDR to OWB itself. We haven't worked with any other ETL tool because of the unavailablity of any other ETL tool with us. We will be working with Pentaho kettle in near future and try to prove the whole process as two way communication.
    The whole process can be described in steps as below :
    1. Creation of a manual OWB Ecore model(model representaion in Eclipse Modelling Framework) which gives all dependencies and reletionships in OWB objects like Project,OracleModule etc.
    2. Creation of CWM ecore model from Rational Rose mdl which has been provided by OMG on their site.
    3. Generation of Java code(Gen Model) from the above mentioned ecore model(It is needed to create an object from OWB).
    4. Extraction of project from OWB using public views which has been exposed by OWB itself. You can refer to [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/owb.102/b28225/toc.htm|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/owb.102/b28225/toc.htm] link for OWB public views and other APIs.
    5. (Actually Step 4 is a part of this step only )Writing a Java code which has JDBC connection for accessing OWB public views and Ecore model as imported java files(Step 3 has been done for this part only). This java code will return an OWB project object(instance of the Ecore model) which will be used in further steps.
    6. Writing an Xtend code to do a model to model tranformation from OWB to CWM.
    7. Writing an Open Architecture Workflow to combine all the steps in one step which will take the output of java code(step 5) and put it into Xtend Code(step 6) and then will take the output of Xtend code and give it to the XMIWriter(an OAW component) to write an XMI which is actually a CWM Ecore Model instance.
    8. Saving above XMI(CWM model instance) to the CWM MDR using Hibernate and Teneo.
    In the same way we can extract metadata from CWM MDR and put it into OWB. But the only problem with OWB is that we cannot persist OWB object in OWB repositories as OWB tables are very cryptic and tough to understand. So for that we have used TCL scripts(OMB Plus scripts) to create a project in OWB using OWB ecore instance. You can refer to the above oracle documentation link for TCL scripts.
    Let me know if I can assist you if you are working on the same.
    You can mail me for any queries. My email id is [email protected].
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Hi
    1. Why do we need to install another standalone HTTP server in a separate home? Where do we use that server?
    DA: The separate HTTP server is for the Workflow Monitor, which is not necessary (it has some use cases mind you).
    2. To make the OWB work correctly while using ETL features, do we always need to run Workflow Configuration Assistant, because I wasn't able to generate code from OWB editor after building a mapping while Workflow Configuration Assistant wasn't running.
    DA: Not necessary, what error did you get? Mappings can be designed, deployed and executed without Workflow. Workflow can be used for orchestrating the the mappings (ie .running a bunch of them in a specific order with others tasks).
    3. Whenever I try to save my work in OWB, I get an error , message : Preference.properties (Access is denied). Though it saves my work but I don't understand why I am getting this error. It looks like OWB is trying to access some Property from the Preferences (Tools menu) but can't access.
    DA: It sounds like the directory where you have installed OWB does not have permissions for the OS user you are executing it. Is the install user different from the execution user? Either run using the installed user, or change the permissions of the directories (grant the executing user write permissions under all directories under owb).
    4. I also get error while closing the Mapping Editor :-
    DA. same issue as 3.

  • How to load unicode data files with fixed records lengths?

    Hi!
    To load unicode data files with fixed records lengths (in terms of charachters and not of bytes!) using SQL*Loader manually, I found two ways:
    Alternative 1: one record per row
    SQL*Loader control file example (without POSITION, since POSITION always refers to bytes!)<br>
    LOAD DATA
    CHARACTERSET UTF8
    LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR
    INFILE unicode.dat
    INTO TABLE STG_UNICODE

    E CHAR(4)
    ) Datafile:
    001111112234444

    02ÄÜÖßêÊûÛxöööö
    03ÄÜÖßêÊûÛxöööö
    04üüüüüüÖÄxµôÔµ Alternative2: variable length records
    LOAD DATA
    CHARACTERSET UTF8
    LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR
    INFILE unicode_var.dat "VAR 4"
    INTO TABLE STG_UNICODE
    TRUNCATE
    A CHAR(2) ,
    B CHAR(6) ,

    ) Datafile:
    001501NormalDExZWEI002702ÄÜÖßêÊûÛxöööö002604üuüüüüÖÄxµôÔµ Problems
    Implementing these two alternatives in OWB, I encounter the following problems:
    * How to specify LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR?
    * How to suppress the POSITION definition?
    * How to define a flat file with variable length and how to specify the number of bytes containing the length definition?
    Or is there another way that can be implemented using OWB?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    Hi Carsten
    If you need to support the LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR clause in an external table then one option is to use the unbound external table and capture the access parameters manually. To create an unbound external table you can skip the selection of a base file in the external table wizard. Then when the external table is edited you will get an Access Parameters tab where you can define the parameters. In 11gR2 the File to Oracle external table can also add this clause via an option.
    Cheers

  • What is the best practice to migrate code from dev  to prod

    I have few questions related OWB version control/migration.
    1. What is the best way to Version the design repository
    We want to keep a separate copy of production and test version all the time.
    Do we have to create design repository in each environment ?
    2. Is it possible to have multiple copies of the same mapping ? If yes how this is done in OWB
    3. How to migrate the code to different environments
    2.1 Is there a way to provide DBA with script for deploying PL/SQL mapping without using OWB ?
    2.2 How important is the setting before actual code in the XML file is required to execute the mapping.
    2.3 We are planning to create tables , materialized view etc., outside OWB will this cause any problems ?
    Note : Our DBA prepare compiling the code through SQLPLUS
    3. Which user ( target owner or runtime access ) should be used to execute the mapping through sqlplus.
    We are looking for a solution were we do not have to use OWB tools for version control , migration and deployment. Currently we are using PVCS for version control and migration.
    we are using OWB 9.2 , Oracle 9.2.
    Any suggestion/ comments are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sekar,K

    Some answers below:
    1. Yes, you should use snapshots (right click on t he object and select create snapshot or on the project menu, select Change Manager for a centralized snapshot management).
    2. See above.
    3. Usually you will export the (test/development) design repository to an mdl file, and import it into the other (production) design directory. Then you will deploy the code from the other design directory into the production target (runtime).
    2.1 From 9.2 on, you will have to deploy to file and then use OWB scripting (OMBPlus) to deploy the generated file outside of the deployment manager.
    2.2 Not sure what is asked in this question - can you rephrase?
    2.3 No, but the creation and use of thes will not be managed and audited by OWB (Runtime Audit Browser)
    3.(bis) The target owner.

    Hello Guys
    I just started Learning OWB i have a small problem while Mapping
    I mappped a column from source directly to Target and when i use the same column for Join condition for another mapping its not allowing me to so that
    and its giving error API 8003 and is there any way in OWB to use SQL directly to populate Target table
    Please
    Help me out
    Thanks

    Hi,
    U cannot connect a column to the target directly and also use it in a joiner. Take all the cols to the joner. Use the appropriate conditions and the from the joiner connect it to the target table.

  • Control Center status running scheduled jobs stops when DB is shutdown

    I have scheduled jobs in the Control Center of OWB, and the status is "Running" (Green Arrow ->), but everytime we stop and start the database I have to start the schedule job again under Status.
    Is there any way to fix this so that when the database stops and restarts somebody does not have to go into the Control Center and restart the jobs that are scheduled?
    Thanks

    I'm been told that it's a bug in the current version of OWB and to fix this problem we should upgrade to 10.2.0.3.
