I did try to change duplex setting on fa0/0 of router to Full, but the interface went down and I lost the connectivity to the switch.
> I did try to change duplex setting on fa0/0 of router to Full, but the interface went down and I lost the connectivity to the switch.
Did you wait some time to let the divices reestablish the connection again?
I would configure the Switchport to auto/auto in that case. Autonegotiation works (most of the times ;-) ).

%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH (IP-phone)
Hi! I'm getting this error on an access switch.
%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on FastEthernet0/9 (not half duplex), with SEP00141C8Dxxxx Port 1 (half duplex).
Why is the phone port 1 half duplex? Shouldn't the phones be configured as auto-negotiation as default?
Could it be a cabling issue?
Will it affect the throughput / performance on that port?
This is happening with some of my other phones + switches.Hi
First thing to check is whether the phone has been configured for half duplex - this is a setting configured from the phone itself (via the keypad). You can go into 'settings', then 'network configuration' and scroll down until you see the 'PC' and 'SW' port configurations.
If you are not near the phone you can browse to the phone IP with Internet Explorer and then click 'Network Configuration' on the left. Somewhere in that list should be the configured speed/duplex settings.
If it is configured for auto/auto, then I would check that there are not multiple devices on the affected switch port - for example someone may have inserted a hub or other intermediate device.

Speed/Duplex between two different switchs & SFP
Hi everybody,
I'm sorry about my poor english... I'm French (but it is not contagious)
I need your help (or TAC Help ) about speed and duplex problems.
My network :
[C2960G-24TC-L with sfp GLC-FE-100LX on Gig 0/23] <--> (Singlemode Fiber 9/125µ) <--> [Cisco SF200-24 with sfp MFELX1 on Gi1]
Autonegociation everywhere...
My problem :
%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on GigabitEthernet0/23 (not full duplex), with f02929f97095 gi1 (full duplex).
- I can't force speed/duplex on MFELX1 (actually a-full a-100)
- I can't force speed/duplex on GLC-FE-100LX (actually a-half a-100)
Is there an incompatibility between this equipements ?

Thank you so much for yor help !Thank you Leo,
It doesn't work, but I found an solution !
A strange solution...
I forced the C2960G-24TC-L to work with SFP :
media-type sfp
When I do that, I have the possibility to force the duplex (but not the speed... ok why not... ) :
duplex full
It is not very clean but my link is up and full-100 both sides.
Not very clean because :
C2960 side = force duplex, auto speed
SF200 side = auto duplex, auto speed
No errors... the link is clean.
Anyone known the reason or a better solution ? -
Half duplex or full duplex configuration for MDS9124 management port?
Hi All,
Is it possible to set the management port of mds 9124 about half or full duplex configuration?
I want to correct following error:
Jun 13 10:27:20.799 GMT: %CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on GigabitEthernet4/18 (not half duplex), with mtw1pc02bs0(FOX1450G8QG) mgmt0 (half duplex).
it seems mds 9124 set his port to half duplex.
DennisYou may want to check this thread :
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2059109
Else try the following :
switch# config terminal
switch(config)#
switch(config)# interface mgmt0
switch(config-if)# switchport duplex full
switch(config)# exit
switch#
switch# copy running-config startup-config
Also, I would suggest you check what the counterpart of your MDS switch mgmt interface is set to (i.e. is it set to autoneg, then try setting it to fix speed/duplex or the other way around). -
Duplex mismatch between N7k and 5508
Hi All,
I met a duplex mismatch issue in our new DC.
The port configuration on the N7k and controller is the same as in other DC
Only difference is version of the NxOS on the N7k.
On N7k 5.2(1) works
On N7k 5.2(7) i get below logs :

How can i fix this issue ? Ports are set up and show the same - 1000 / Full
the messages are annoying as loggs are almost full of them.
Thank you in advanceHi Matthew,
The issue is related to bug -> "CDP duplex mismatch when using LAG on 5508 & 8510 WLC” (CSCuc94082)
The fastest way to solve (workaround) this is disable cdp on the controller by executing following command: config cdp advertise-v2 disable
Hope this helped you

%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH
Hi guys,
I have seen from one of our switch, constantly logs about duplex mismatch:
%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on FastEthernet
By putting switch interfaces as auto/auto the problem seems be fixed. The question is:
Anybody knows which problem duplex mismath can cause for wireless conectivity or performance ?
thanks in advanced.Anybody knows which problem duplex mismath can cause for wireless conectivity or performance ?
Yes. Duplex mismatch on the physical interface will seriously degrade the wireless traffic.
Wireless, by itself, is already a half duplex medium and you want to introduce a duplex mismatch issue on your physical connection? It'll slow things down. A lot! -

Thanks for your suggstionHi Grant,
Thanks for your sugggestions. But however we Have 6 Controllers, all are having the same setup as this one.
Only difference i seen for this switch is for the th port 1/11 it is showling 2 CDP info, one for management interface of WLC and other for Logical interface of WLC, which seems not correct.
Ths CDP info connecting to Logical interface is showing half duplex and cdp info connecting to Physical interface of wlc is showing full duplex.

I'm guessing I'm confusing commands for Ethernet and fastEthernet, yes..? Cheers.
EDIT: Ok, my boo there..the 2nd 2600 only had ethernet not fastethernet. I changed to a 2nd with fastethernet, but, still get this,
Router(config-if)#int fastEth0/0
Router(config-if)#duplex full

Not getting full duplex throughput on WRT54GL
So here's the situation. I am on a university network that gives us a 10Mbps HALF duplex connection when using auto-negotiate, so we effectively get a 1Mbps connection. I can manually change the duplex setting on my network card to "full duplex" and then I get a solid 10Mbps connection.
Now I am attempting to use a WRT54GL with this connection. I have configured the router for "full duplex," but whether I am connected through wired or wireless to the router, I consistently get only 1Mbps throughput. Is there any additional setting or hack I can do to force the router to use full duplex with its WAN connection to the campus network?
Thanks in advance! This option is not available on the linksys firmeware..

Ettus USRP B200 full duplex at 16 or 32 MSPS?
I am testing the B200 with two different PCs, both running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
One is a 4 year old Core i7 PC with an Intel MB and a NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 controller.
The other is a 1 year old Asus G750 laptop with an Intel 8 Series/C220 USB 3.0 controller.
Both machines can handle sustained (a few hours) 350+ MB/second transfers from a Point Grey USB 3.0 camera over a 3 meter cable with zero USB 3.0 errors reported by Point Grey's software. Note this is one direction of data flow over USB 3.0, not full duplex. The PC reached 356 MB/second. The laptop reached 369 MB/second. Both error free over periods of about 1 hour.
The B200 can reliably TX and RX (full duplex) at a common data rate of 4 MSPS on both machines.
8 MSPS full duplex is intermittently OK (occasional buffer overruns on both machines). Note: (8 MSPS) * (2 bytes/sample) * 2 (RX + TX) * 2 (I + Q) = 64 MB/second... fairly low for what USB 3.0 is capable of.
16 and 32 MSPS full duplex is never reliable (all runs result in buffer overruns and missing RX or TX data).
Command I'm using (set for 8 MSPS):
nice -20 ./txrx_loopback_to_file --file samples.dat --type float
--nsamps 50000000 --tx-rate 8000000 --rx-rate 8000000 --tx-freq
915000000.000000 --rx-freq 916000000.000000 --tx-gain 0.000000
--rx-gain 0.000000 --wave-type RAMP --wave-freq 10000.000000
Note this is 1 channel TX + 1 channel RX full duplex. Wire format is "sc16" (16 bits per sample over the bus I believe). Data format is "fc32" (32 bit float). I've tried both the stable and unstable UHD drivers.
I also observed that a moderate bend of the USB 3.0 cable will noticeably reduce reliability. Nothing too severe as to permanently deform or damage the cable.
I suspect RFI is affecting the USB 3.0 signals.
*** Questions ***
Any suggestions on how to achieve reliable 16 or 32 MSPS full duplex transfers? Hopefully reliable as in sustained full-duplex TX and RX or an average of 15 minutes between data transfer errors.
Has anyone placed their USRP B200 or B210 in a metal enclosure? Was reliabliity affected?
Has anyone tested their B200 / B210 with different USB host controllers and found a controller that is ideal for full-duplex TX+RX at the 16 or 32 MSPS rates?
Do full duplex TX+RX configurations create a significantly greater I/O challenge over USB versus TX-only or RX-only?
Or is the USRP B200 / B210 simply not the best hardware for doing sustained 16 or 32 MSPS full duplex TX and RX? Better to use a PCI Express interface SDR?John,
Thank you for your time and help.
Yes I have posted to the USRP-users mailing list along with more detailed test results. I've also corresponded with Matt Ettus.
Thank you for the link to benchmarks. I later found that. I have stopped using the B200 with the computer with the NEC controller although it did give similar results versus the laptop with the 8 Series/C220. I am now just testing with the Asus Laptop with the 8 Series/C220 controller.
I do appreciate that the PCIe or 10-gigabit based SDRs are more reliable. Matt told me this too. I would expect this based on the prices. I am more concerned that full duplex with the B200 appears almost useless. Maybe my 8 Series/C220 controller has electrical or RFI problems? Maybe my B200 is defective?
I am concerned with the $5000 cost for a PCIe or 10-gigabit Ethernet solution when a PCIe x4 capable FPGA now only cost $100 or $200 more than the FPGA and Cypress FX3 that the B200 uses.
I'm tempted to instead spend $5K to roll my own PCIe MIMO SDR for $750 to $1000 per board versus spending $5000 for one X300, RF daugtherboard and external PCIe kit. And I can customize it to my needs better. Per Vices did exactly this and offered a $750 (later revised to $2500) PCIe SDR board with 100 MHz simultaneous TX and RX bandwidth.

WLC 5508 duplex mismatch error
Hi I've got a WLC 5508 connected to a Catalyst 6000 switch. In the switch I've get a CDP duplex mismatch error every 30 min.
%CDP-4-DUPLEXMISMATCH:Full/half duplex mismatch detected on port 3/23
with the show port command I can see this:

Hi all,
i am using cisco LMS 3.2 as when we run the Discripencies Report we get the
Error of LINK DUPLEX MISMATCH....
Kindly guide for the same....
This link has ports with mismatching duplex.
Port GigabitEthernet0/23 on device MKT_1 with mode auto-duplex
Device type and OS version of MKT_1:
Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(53)SE2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport
Port GigabitEthernet0/1 on device MKT_3 with mode full-duplex This link has ports with mismatching duplex.
Port GigabitEthernet0/23 on device MKT with mode auto-duplex
Device type and OS version of MKT_1:
Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(53)SE2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport
Port GigabitEthernet0/1 on device MKT_3 with mode full-duplex
But when i check the configuration of both switches it shows as FULL DUPLEX for the above....
Kindly guide how to resolve the above error....This is a known issue with ports set to auto-duplex. Since the switches do not reflect the current operational duplex, LMS does not know if the port negotiated to full or half. In that case, it presents the warning so you can investigate. Once you've confirmed the duplex is correct, you can acknowledge the discrepancy.
If you upgrade your switches to 12.2(55)SE, then the switch will report the operational duplex, and this discrepancy will go away on its own. The bug that fixed this was CSCtc12593 -
Duplex Mismatch when connecting ip phone with 2950 switch
When I connect my Cisco IP Phone 7960 with 2950 Switch (any access port within voice vlan), I get the message on Port duplex mismatch but the phone works properly.
From my switch the speed setting is 100/Full but from the Phone its Auto.
My Question is when I try to change duplex settings from Phone, it doesn't gives me any option instead only one option available to save so kindly someone tell me the best way to fix this from Phone or do I have to change the duplex from switch to AUTO ?Thanks but When I connect with my Cisco 2950 Switch, I can see the weird kind of language as per my attachment.
It wasn't yesterday when I first configured from scratch but just seen today.
Switch is working good with Cisco IP phone connected with it. -
Hi
Can someone explain the following to me please. All our ip phones are deployed with their settings pc/sw config as auto/auto. Desktops are all on 100fullmb as are the 3750 switch ports they connect to. Mostly all is fine but sometimes I get duplex mismatches on syslog server. When I change phone settings to 100full it resolves. How come this happens on some and not others.
Also what is best practice as we are deploying in other offices now; I would have though everything set to 100full.
Thanks ,
FrankIf you manually set a port to 100/full then plug in a device set to auto/auto that device will default to 100/half. If you set one device manually you have to set whatever it connects to manually as well. Best practice is to set everything to auto negotiate and that will result in 100/full. In your case you have all devices with a duplex mismatch and you should be having lots of performance and voice quallity issues.
Take a look at this link for details on how ethernet port speed and duplex negotiation works.
