P6V7 Activities that cannot be levelled
Hi All,
I have a problem with leveling.
in the log some activities are listed as "activities that cannot be leveled", looking better at those activities it results that they have negative float (even if no successor and predecessor has been set). No "must finish on" has been set for the project and strange thing is that when scheduling without leveling the resources the float become positive as expected. Every time I level resources (unchecking the option "preserve early and late dates") the late finish is recalculate and it is minor respect to early finish dates. Another strange thing is that the recalculate late finish dates fall before the date of project start...
Is there some workaround I can test or some settings to be checked?

I'm not an expert at leveling resources, but I'd guess your resource assignment on those activities that don't level is at 100%, meaning you need the full attention of 1 resource the whole time that activity is active. If you reduce the resource availability in the dictionary to 60%, the activity still says, "Hey, given my duration and number of units, I need 100% of the resource." Thus, even if there were no other activities with that resource assigned, you'd be overallocated when these activities are scheduled to occur, and P6 can't level that resource/activity.
To experiment with this hypothesis, increase your duration on the activity (or decrease the number of units or the units per time... depending on your "duration type" setting) so that the resource requirements are at 60% (or whatever you're setting your max to) and try to level again.

I've created a resourced schedule for design management. The schedule seems to be fine when resource leveling when the "Defult Units / Time" is set to 100% and the "Max Units / Time" is set to 100%
I'm trying to reduce the available time for 2 of the resources from 100% to 60%.
When I resource level after changing the Units/Time percentages for these resources the Resource Usage Profile continually shows a over allocation. Change if back and is OK again.
When I review the resource level log it says that there are a number of "Activities that cannot be leveled".
When I check the tasks it seems they do not level.
These tasks all level when the Unit/Time is 100% or greater.
Does anyone know why these are not leveling??

Creating an Apple ID that cannot be changed or retrieved
Is there a way to create an Apple ID that cannot be changed or looked up? We're setting up some phones for students and don't want them to be able to find out their Apple IDs or change them...
At a basic level, if you are not installing profiles, you can enable pass code protected restrictions on each ipad by going to settings -general - restrictions. You prevent access to itunes, prevent app installation, etc.

the app store on my brand new ipod touch offers me majority apps that cannot be used on my software. how do i find apps that will work with 6.1.5? this is frustrating, especially when purchased brand new for christmas.

We have a Windows 2003 file server and we are having issues with Macs retrieving files/folders from it. There is a folder on the Windows share named "dropbin" that UserA has full permissions on. UserB has the following NTFS permissions on the dropbin folder.
Traverse Folder / Execute File Allow
List Folder / Read Data Allow
Create Files / Write Data Allow
Create Folders / Append Data Allow
Write Attributes Allow
Write Extended Attributes Allow
This gives UserB the ability to look inside the dropbin folder and place content in there. This same user cannot delete or pull down anything that a different user (UserC) has put in there. UserA (the person with full permissions) should be able to pull down anything put in there.
This works fine from an XP box if an XP user (UserB) puts content in there UserA from a Mac or a PC can get and manipulate the data. If a Mac user (UserB) puts a file up there (it seems to happen with a .txt file, a .cp file, or a .zip file) UserA from a Mac gets the following error when trying to download the file:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named item.txt"
When you hit continue you get the following error:
"The item item.txt contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed"
If you proceed to enter in the admin credentials, the file doesn't copy down to the local Mac and fails without an error.
A couple of things we noticed....
1. If Mac UserB puts up a Word document or a .dmg file then UserA from a Mac can pull it down fine without errors.
2. On the Windows 2003 server we noticed that for each file we tried to upload it creates a ._ corresponding hidden file. For example, item.txt also has ._item.txt. If we go up on the server and remove the hidden file, Mac UserA can pull down the file fine.
3. We tried zipping the files (or files and folders) locally on Mac UserB's desktop then putting the .zip file up there but since it creates a ._file.zip Mac UserA still can't pull it down.
4. The fix we found for this is to have Mac UserB place the files they want to upload into a folder on the desktop, then upload that folder. When Mac UserA comes by they can pull down that folder's worth of stuff.
We are accessing the Windows 2003 file share by going to the finder and using the "Go" menu and entering in:
smb://servername/sharename
and they use their Windows domain credentials to log in.We may have figured this out but it requires some more testing. The reason why the file upload creates the ._ files in the dropbin folder when UserB puts content in there is because UserB does not have the "Delete" permission in that folder. My guess is that it creates the ._ file when the file is in transit but then deletes that file after it has completed the transfer (but without the delete permission it couldn't remove the ._ file). What we did was added another user to the NTFS permissions for that folder, we added the built in "CREATOR OWNER" account and gave that user the "Delete" permission, now the ._ files do not appear under there and UserA can come along and manage the uploaded file okay.

I have the iPhone 4, and yesterday I synced my photos onto iTunes, but now I have albums on my phone that cannot be deleted, and there is not an option to delete the items in the albums individually... How do I get rid of these unwanted albums? Using Windows 7.
If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.

Could someone please advise on my current problem? Apparantly I can no longer download tones to my phone or account to be used as such since the tones are being downloaded as songs that cannot be transferred or placed in the tones area for the phone or in iTunes. Prior to the last update, this was always an option. I have also noticed that the Ringtones and Alert Tones are not showing up in my recent purchases as well to allow for me to place them back on my phone and there for require for them to be purchased again... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I've discovered that all tones purchased will be downloaded as ringtones, BUT they can be utilized as tones and assigned as alert tones on the iPhone...

This is a long description of a series of problems with my new Palm Pre. You may wish to search the text to find your specific issue(s). There is no solution in my post. Look for possible answers in the responses to come.
I bought my Palm Pre 4 days ago and it arrived 2 days ago. Phone worked great. Last night I plugged in the phone and updated the OS. After completion, I selected "Done" and went to bed.
- First Series of Issues: "Phone Offline", will not charge battery -
In upper lefthand corner of the phone there is the message "phone offline". Although the phone has been charging all night it reads "26% battery". I called the general Sprint tech support number and we tried the following things:
1) Restart phone (press and hold power button, then select "turn off". after power down, press and hold power button to power on.)
2) Reset the phone (several different ways - call tech support so that you do this correctly)
The individual at Sprint then sent me to another tech support person, presumably 2nd tier.
- Second Series of Issues: Error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" -
Sprint tech support person #2 also had me restart and reset the phone in a number of ways. In her words "we've tried every palm pre trick I know" and each time the phone was unresponsive. Often we received the error message "phone is offline". We did a full erase and after that the phone would no longer restart. At this point the error message came up saying "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" which referred me to www.palm.com for assistance. I think it's important to note here that this was not the typical error message (black screen with white letters) but rather the blue sky background with a semitransparent box over it with white text.
Sprint tech support person #2 then connected me with Palm support and the dance continued. Again we tried a whole bunch of resetting and restarting and erasing options. Palm support instructed me to go to: www.palm.com/rom to download WebOS Doctor, which I did. I downloaded the file. While that was happening he had me hold the "volume up" button and plug the phone into the charger. This caused a USB symbol to appear on the phone. When the file was complete I received an error message that the file couldn't run. Palm tech support person seemed surprised. I mentioned that I was on a Mac and he said he couldn't help me. He then transferred me to another Palm support person who works with Mac users.
Palms tech support person #2 then informed me that I should have selected the "mac" download option on www.palm.com/rom. I verbally walked her through the whole series of webpages, telling her that it says that you need Windows (version whatever) or Mac (version whatever) but that at no time was there an option to download a different WebOS Doctor for different operating systems. After some more discussion she told me she would have to have someone call me back tomorrow.
- Third Series of Issues: phone stuck on USB symbol -
So at the moment the phone is completely useless. Not fantastic. I booted up the mac in Windows 7 and downloaded WebOS Doc and received the same error. I also ran Windows Vista virtually and received the same error. Later this afternoon I'm heading into work to try the same thing on Windows XP.
In the meantime, I got onto this forum and located a thread that provided a direct link to the necessary file:

After downloading that file, which I realized could totally be a virus, I was able to get WebOS Doc working on my computer. It required that I recharge the phone completely before beginning and now it's on the screen that says "Don't disconnect your phone" and the file is at 3% complete. Only... it's been at 3% complete for almost 30 minutes.
I am hoping that Palm will follow up with me tomorrow, but I'm leaving at 7am on a business trip and would love to have the thing working. Any suggestions are welcome, even if you can just tell me how to get the think disconnected safely before my flight tomorrow. I don't fancy getting through security with my phone wired to my laptop.

Our phone support is open every day Monday through Sunday, although there are different hours of operation for the weekend. If after a webOS Doctor reset you are still experiencing the same problems, I would likely recommend replacement, either in a local store for your carrier or through our technical support department.
There may be additional technical support offered or suggested over the phone, this would need to be done first before a replacement could be issued.

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

I got the new Verizon Ipad a few weeks ago and just now attempted to activate the 4g service. The first few attempts resulted in an error message related to my SIM card (something to the effect that it had already been in use or something). After calling Verizon and taking the card out, running through a script, and putting it back in, we eventually got it to the point where we could connect to the 4G service and that specific SIM card error message went away. However, now I am getting this error: "Your iPad is already active on a subscription plan that cannot be managed on this device". I called and talked to another rep who said they are experiencing this issue with a number of Ipads and she was submitting a ticket for me to get the error "cleared out". She said it could take a week?
When I go in and click "View Account" I either get this error message above or I get a brand new registration window to start all over again. Then immediately the "LTE" goes away in the upper left, it starts searching again, eventually finds the signal, and I get a popup saying "cellular data plan has been activated" or something to that effect. Then I am good to go.
Anyone dealing with this and have it cleared up? They are acting like its something in their system that will just go away on its on but I don't buy it. I am getting the service so I am just trying to get the "view account" functionality to work. Thanks all.I had the same problem activating. I had gotten one error message when trying to activate. I didn't write the phone number down. I tried "View Account" again and then it started giving the error about the SIM card already being set up on an account. When I called that Verizon number the guy said I would need to go to a VZW store and get a new SIM card, but he did see the account in their system.
A while later I decided to just restart the iPad and I started getting the original message that just said it couldn't activate right now and to try again later. It provided a different phone number, which is the Verizon mobile broadband support number. When I called it the lady knew exactly what to do. She said the payment to the credit card hadn't gone through and she would have to push it through manually (this sometimes happens with certain credit cards when they see new online cellular service). She had me go to settings / reset / and to reprovision the account and reboot while she did some things on her side. When it came back up it was able to activate and the LTE even showed up. I also checked my credit card online and it only showed the $20 charge (for 1 GB Plan).
However, as you stated, when I go to "View Account" it says that the iPad is already active on a subscription that cannot be managed on this device and gives the mobile broadband support number. I will wait a few days and see if it clears up on its own, but at least the data is working. -
If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question. Trying to hold out as long as I can, but purchasing an iPhone for Christmas and new iMac next year when warrently expires.

Since installing Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I have many documents, but not all, that cannot be opened in either Pages 5 or in Pages '09. The names show in my document lists, but are greyed out. They do not show any extensions, but I'm sure at seast some of them are PDFs. As I cannot open them, I am unable to try to experiment with any solutions - I am not tech savvy, but can sometimes fix things by trial and error. I have no issues with sharing documents as I have no other devices. I just want to be able to open my saved documents! Also, the documents I can open have to be persistently coaxed to open to a point that it is extremely aggravating. I am not so happy with this recent "upgrade." Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You use Finder to find stuff. It is what you use to look at where your files are kept and to rename, move or trash them. If you double click on a file in Finder it finds the right software to open it for you.
To open particular files you use the right software for each type. Usually, but not always, the software that made the file.
Pages opens files ending in .pages. Also .txt, .rtf, and doc.
Pages 5 is the latest (but certainly not the greatest) version of Pages. It has trouble opening all sorts of files including the older Pages '09 files but it will still do it.
Unfortunately Apple has chosen for Pages 5 to also save its files as exactly the same file extension .pages despite it being a different format that can not be opened by the older Pages '09.
As we all know Apple is wise and great beyond belief and would not do something that on the face of it looks extraordinarily stupid and shortsighted. Therefore we know that it must be our fault and we are not holding the software right. Because we are bad users, we must be punished, by either having to use Pages 5 or jump through hoops to avoid using Pages 5.
If you have installed Pages 5 any .pages file (old or new) will be opened by Pages 5. If you then save the file, Pages 5 will change the file format. So don't open your files with Pages 5 and don't save them if you do.
To stop Pages 5 opening and resaving your old files, you need to drag it to the trash and empty it.
When it is no longer around to annoy you, you can go back to using Pages 09.
