Password attribute stored as binary

Trying to bind against an iPlanet directory with ADSI. Anonymous
bind is no problem. However, any use of passwords
return 'Inappropriate Authentication' error. I discovered that the
password is stored in binary format. Does anyone know if there is
a "special way" to do a bind against a directory whose passwords are
stored in binary.
Thanks.
Michael

If you are talking about entries like this:
userPassword:{SSHA}xxxxxxxxxx==
That's the server encrypting the passwords. The password you want to use for the bind is the original unencrypted password.
The system encrypts automatically. That is if you add a user with attribute
userPassword: foo
and then look at the directory entry, you'll find that "foo" turned into {SSHA}......
But they still login with "foo".

  • Does GTC generate default value for Password attribute.??

I am using GTC as trusted source reconciliation.
My doubt is if I don’t map the password attribute does it generate default value to the password attribute in user form??
I have a random password generator in pre-insert, first i tried as below which didn't work later after updating it worked fine.
    IF (password=null)
    Generaterandampassword
    SetPassword= Generaterandampassword
If i use adapter as above it not generating random password. i see that password as 'temp' to all the users.
I am thinking gtc generates a value to password filed even if we don't pass any value... am i right?? Please let me know..
    Thanks..

  • Moving xml file from table stored as clob to table stored as binary

We have an xml file we are trying to move from a 10g database to 11gR2. The 11gR2 table is stored as binary, and when we try to insert the row into this table across a dblink from the 10g database the table locks and the system will not complete the transaction. I am wondering if this has something to do with the way the files are stored?

This would be better in the {forum:id=34} forum. Also include the full version of the 10g DB and the SQL being used and which DB it is running on.

  • Well to run a cfquery I must include a "password" attribute, etc except I have a local server ? yes / no

    I read ALL the textbook
    MACROMEDIA CF, 2002 course.com
Well to run a <cfquery> I must include a "password" attribute, etc
except I have a local server ? yes / no
May use/include a file dbinfo.cfm with all my passwords etc , and use
these passwords as variables in <cfquery>,...etc ? this is more secure ?
I must include vars in <cfscript> tag OR many <cfset> tags ?
    If I had
    <cfscript>
    password='gf56SDRPO999';
    </cfscript>
HOW TO INCLUDE THIS VAR IN  <cfquery password=#password# ...> this is correct ?

Your question is unclear to me, but if you just want to verify your syntax is legal, then YES.  You can easily set a value in a variable with <cfscript> and then later use that variable in a <cftag...> like you showed.
But I would argue there is little additional security in using passwords in code like this between setting the password and using it directly in the tag.  There may be reusability and maintainability advantages, but little advantage to security.

  • Storing image binary vs. storing URL

    hi experts,
What are the benefits of storing the binary data of an image or an audio file in the database? Would it be much faster if I store the URL string to the file instead?
    Thanks.

the sources of the jre classes are in a (about) 20-meg file called src.jar.
Storing "src.jar" takes 7 bytes (or 14, if you use 16bit unicde).
Storing the contents of "src.jar" takes 20,000,000 bytes.
Well, what do you think? Is it faster to save the a name (~ URL) or the entire file?

  • Custom User Attributes stored?

    Hi,
I would like to know which table in Database, user attributes like firstname, lastname, email, custom attributes if any are stored. I know that some of the attributes like islocked, failedlogonattempts are stored in <b>ATTR</b> field of <b>UME_STRINGS</b> and their values stored in <b>VAL</b> field  in the same table.
Can anyone help me in identifying the table in which attributes stored and how altering the table to add extra custom attributes other than the <b>UME APIs</b>?
    Thanks in advance....
    Regards,
    Ganesh N

    Hi Ganesh
I'm not sure why you'd want to get to the table(s) directly. Why not use the supported mechanism (APIs) rather than hope SAP never changes the underlying tables?
Have you tried a SQL trace at the J2EE level?
    Cheers

Hi Vipul - Have you considered using BCS to connect to Oracle (i.e. set up an external content type) and then indexing the data?
    There are details here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ericwhite/archive/2010/04/28/searching-external-data-in-sharepoint-2010-using-business-connectivity-services.aspx
Once you have mapped the BCS fields to managed properties then you can perform a regular field search - e.g. ClientName:Microsoft

  • Choose to what keychain a password is stored

    Hi,
I have several keychains, and one of them is for safari passwords (log in names, etc). If I am visiting a new site, and fill in my name and password, safari asks whether I want to store the password. If I click 'yes', then the password is stored in the 'general' keychain (the one that opens when I log in to my comp). However, I want it to be stored in the 'safari keychain'. This means I have to drag the new keychain item to the 'safari keychain' every time I add an item. (I hope you can follow ;)) For the rest the system works fine: I open safari, visit my webmail-page and then my mac asks me to open the 'safari keychain'.
    BUT....
Why doesn't my computer ask what keychain I want to use if I add a new password? This would be very handy. Not just for safari, but for any program.
To be clear: the safari keychain is already unlocked, so that's not it.
    I hope I make sense...

Since I only have one login.keychain that stores everything, I don't know how you can set up another for use with Safari. When I go to a new secure website, create a new account, Safari only pops up, and asks if I want to store the username/password combo in my *default login.keychain*. I see no place where it's asking to store the information in a different keychain. Maybe I don't understand the keychain mechanism, correctly. As for the why, it would probably be simpler to create a standard account for those other people to use. Logging out and into that one for your guests.

  • Passwords after storing are automatically being cleared when i start firefox the very next time

when firefox asks me whether to save passwords i always click remember because i don't like to enter the passwords again and again and i only use this computer.
recently, the stored passwords are being cleared when i start firefox.
and firefox asks whether to save passwords again and again.
i have tried the solutions: there are no exceptions, no private browsing and passwords are cleared after shutdown option is not selected. is there a solution for this????

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Where is the "Icon Display Period" attribute stored?

    G'day All,
I have a procedure that needs to referenece the "Icon Display
Period" attribute for a particular content area (this is normally accessed via
the Content Area properties page). Try as I might, I cannot track down
the table/column that stores this little gem of a value:-( Anyone have
any ideas where this might be located?
    Cheers
    Kal.

    G'day Sharmila,
Thanks for your quick response:-) Unfortunately neither WWV_THINGS nor WWV_CORNERS
seems to contain what I'm looking for (either that or I'm really missing something here).
My understanding is that WWV_CORNERS contains information about individual folders.
I use this table to get the UPDATEDATE and CREATEDATE attributes to which I want to
compare the difference between the current date and the "Icon Display Period".
WWV_THINGS seems to contain information about idividual items but I'm only really
interested in folders for the moment.
Now "Icon Display Period" seems to be a content area wide property. The default is 7 days.
I've looked at tables like WWSBR_ALL_CONTENT_AREAS and WWSBR_ALL_SITES
but they don't seem to hold very much information at all:-( Hmmm ... just looking at the Content
Area Properties page and there seems to be quite a lot of information there. Surely It must
    be stored somewhere?
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Kal.

  • ICloud password not stored

Yesterday I registered at an online forum site and, when I tabbed into the 'password' field, Safari offered to create one, and I accepted. I then had to wait for a confirmation email before I could actually log in. After confirming the registration I went back to log into the site, but Safari didn't put the password in the 'password' field. I expected it would. Is that right?
I then searched for the password in Safari>Preferences>Passwords and there's nothing stored for the website at which I registered. I opened Keychain Access, selected, 'All Items' and sorted by Date Modified and the latest entry is over two weeks old. I am now wary of allowing Safari to create passwords.
Can anyone suggest what happened to my password? Did I do something wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve  = : ^ )

Back up all data before proceeding.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
There are four checkboxes in the window that opens. Check all of them. if they're not already checked. Close the window.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.
